I've been skimming through Bleach through the most part, so I'm just wondering something - is there any reason for Juha Bach (or however his name is supposed to be spelled) to want to kill the Soul King, and therefore destroy the entire universe (which would include himself)? I think I had this same problem with Aizen - I'm not sure if it's because I just don't care enough about Bleach to look into it further, or because Kubo is really, really bad at giving his villains motivations.

He won't be destroying the entire universe by killing the Soul King. He'll just be destroying the current system and structure of Soul Society. By killing the Soul King, Soul Society will revert back to its original chaotic existence.

Just think of it as losing what we have now and society being sent back to uhh…some kind of 'stereotypically lawless wild wild west days'.
-
Well, Juha already has the rough cowboy looks, so he wouldn't feel out of place.

Anybody here is after reading Toriko?
I checked first volume and it has potential of being fun, pretty simple shonen with some nice ideas.. that makes me super hungry a lot of times
Also art is pretty decent, hard to tell how it goes when it comes to writing. Feels like some of JoJo mixed up with Hunter Hunter as it is now.So any opinions?

Toriko is great. Bleach doesn't even compare nowadays.

Toriko quickly gets insane in being over the top. But it's fun at least.

Being over the top is not a negative aspect as long as, overall, everything works, and I feel it does work in Toriko.

but if the real world and hueco mundo are also destroyed where are souls supposed to travel to and from to even create whatever chaos. They just said on the previous page everything was going to be destroyed. This seems to imply nothing will be left but masses of soul energy just wandering aimlessly about. Which, if that is the most stable form of the universe, makes me question why bother with creation at all. Unless the metaphysical laws of soul energy will eventually lead to creation of some kind why was anything created in the first place.
Im pretty sure he's just going to destroy the entire universe cause he hates the soul king and Kubo hasn't really given enough information about the origin of this universe to make any assumptions other than what the characters have specifically stated and even then when it doesn't directly contradict something else the same character or another character has stated.
So we don't really have a reason yet and we don't really know what soul society will become after it's destroyed.

Great manga. Deliciously over the top with a simple, but very effective plot behind.
In many weeks it tops it´s other weekly rivals. -

It didn't mean it as a negative. Just saying it's over the top and insane. Like that Konjo Bancho or however it was spelled.

Remember when in the first volume there was that gag with orihime and ichigo running together, going from all squishy chibi cute to hardcore serious athletes? And then all of a sudden another random black afro dude appeared out of nowhere and won. When i read that the first time i thought there would have been other gags or nice funny moments in the future, how wrong i was

So we don't really have a reason yet and we don't really know what soul society will become after it's destroyed.
On the next page it clarifies what "destroy" actually means. It says not only Soul Society but also the real world, Hueco Mundo, and the precipice world* (which I just assume is where the Soul King lives) will all return to there original forms of existence. It basically means destroy the current system/structure not that the places will cease to exist. Are you're saying "destroy the entire universe" = "scramble everything up" because with that I can agree.
Also, it's of value to point out there are 2 different people speaking. Urahara says Soul Society will be destroyed. Bach says all the worlds will revert back to their original form. If you look at it that way it turns into a matter of who do you believe. The Soul King's son or the scientist? When Urahara says "destroy" he might not even be talking literally and could basically be saying the same thing in line with Bach but with more of a "doomsday" feeling and less detail than what Bach offered.

Sounds like something to look after.

I like JoJo and if Toriko is insane and over the top in constant, nicely thought through way I think I will enjoy it a lot
Thanks !
Toriko is great. Bleach doesn't even compare nowadays.
If somebody has avatar out of manga, it means it must be pretty cool.
Those days people stopped having Bleach avatars though…Thanks !

Prepare for fast pace, leaps of growth, food luck, crazy battles, stupid science, bromance, a stable undercurrent of yaoi fanservice, insane statistics, ultra masculinity, rape faces, food eating ecstasy faces, cool monster designs, pets, lost limbs, monstrous attacks, some women, a huge world that should be explored, food, and last but not least balls. Balls, man, balls.
Have fun.

I don't read Jojo so I wouldn't know but the yaoi-ish things aren't on my radar of issues this series has. Overall, there are more good spots than bad spots for Toriko which I helpfully pointed out in my above comment (which is a mix of them all) so overall you should have a great time.

You should at least try to watch JoJo Battle Tendency anime- if it sucks you in then you can check out rest of series.
!
And I find it easily better than Bleach
Part 7 was one of best pieces of manga I seen and that anybody can find(my opinion).

I've been toying with the idea to read it for a long time, but I keep hesitating, waiting for something. Then one of the users spoiled a part of it in Seven Deadly Sins thread.
But your post just might be what I needed to start reading again. First time I read a couple of chapters and then gave up. It was ages ago. I'll go right at it when I get bored with Divinity: Original Sin.

This is funny because I don't think Toriko is as great as some of the other users deem it to be and I might have just overblown expectations for it but, meh, you'll judge for yourself if you get to it. What I can say with certainty is that, going back to near the original post, Toriko is better than Bleach for whatever that amounts to, lol.

Toriko is overrated thats why.
Doesn't mean its bad.

You're overrated.

You really need to change that, and you know it.

which is what i mean when i said we can only go by what characters say and when they contradict each other as in this case "destroy" vs "revert" we are left with even less understanding of whats actually going on than before. So we don't know if Yubahbahwa is trying to destroy everything including himself or revert everything else but him to some pre-soul society state or if he's including himself in that reversion. We don't even know what pre-soul society implies because obviously soul society had to exist in order to create the Soul King but if the universe can't be balanced without the Soul King then how was it balanced before. These are questions without answers. I think Yuwbahwa's motivation is also one of those types of questions.

If you go into it with wanting to enjoy battles and an insane world, then you will probably like it. If you are hoping for a good story, you won't be getting it, especially with later stuff. Still leagues above Bleach, but its attempts at story are not great.
Ah Jojo, I remember last year going through all 7 parts and catching up through 8 in 10 weeks. Loved all of it, even with some weak parts here and there.

Yeah, I think I'll enjoy it. Especially if it doesn't take itself as seriously as Bleach tries to.
Gotta read Jojo too.

Toriko is just a cool series overall. There are some standout arcs, and some divisive ones, but overall it maintains a pretty good quality level. Sometimes I wished Shimabukuro took his sweet time with things, specially lately, but then he makes up for that with an overload of silly, over-the-top, massive stuff. So all is fine in the end.
Jojo's part 1 is weird, in that the author feels like he didn't quite know what he wanted to do with it, so don't get weirded out by it's genre indefinition at first.
By the time part 2 rolls by, Araki knows what he wants to do, and it's just awesome.

And I find anime version somehow more enjoyable- part 1 has like 8 episodes? So even as it bit wierd and medicore in general(though super manly lol)..Then second part starts and its rocking hard.
Third part of JoJo is most known/ One Piece-like arc. Right now anime is getting to last stage of this arc and is done pretty much perfectly(doesnt mean that it better than having amazing bits like manga had).Btw I am at third volume of Toriko and its slowly getting better though when Toriko gets buff it makes me laugh every time as his abilities are just purely over the top and looks like fun part still didnt even started.

At times it feels pointless to have a Bleach discussion here. Unlike years ago here from when I went through the old discussions, there really isn't anything we talk about. Those of us who feel like it will just say something snarky, and leave. It feels like most of the time we put in as much effort as Kubo in our discussion. Just a bunch of white background discussion.

When Kubo has a villain basically copy-paste Aizen's smug-ass monologue on Ichigo and most of us just became slightly annoyed. . .yeah, you can see Kubo is no longer even able to irritate us like he was so competent at before.
-
@Mr.:
I thought that the chapter was great. No one saw Yhwach's explanation of "Zangetsu" to be the least bit cruel? Yhwach is obviously provoking Ichigo, saying essentially that his free will was an illusion and that the ultimate goal was for Ichigo to gain enough power to do his bidding. It worked.
But I get the feeling that Yhwach wants Ichigo to do the same thing and surpass his own limits again. This is apparent through Yhwach's provocation of Ichigo, stating that Ichigo still hasn't developed the necessary killer instinct and is weak because of it–especially since Yhwach killed his mother. Yhwach wants Ichigo to be strong enough to defeat him, because it's obvious that there's another threat ominously lurking in the darkness. It's not Aizen nor Uryu, but the existence of a god like Mimihagi. There's much about the lore that we don't know yet.
Mr Toto, I respect you quite a lot from what you posted in the HxH threads. However given Kubo's track record of being lazy, well I'd be more inclined to believe that you're simply overthinking this. Maybe Kubo planned that slightly deep stuff in advance, but regardless no one around here would believe it, myself included, until Kubo ups his writing skills or so in an notable way.
But that's not likely to happen since the provokation is basicaly a copy paste of Azien's one from a couple hundred chapters ago, and your idea of Ichigo surpassing his weakness of "kindness" was brought up back when Ichigo showed his Hollow Mask per request to that fighter guy back in the Huceo Mucou arc or whatever (can't remember the names) so even that point would feel recycled, can't remember if anything even came out of it (did it develop Ichigo's character/weakness?).
and ywach planning every detail of azien planning every detail of ichigo's life breaks suspension of disbelief to a new point, doing that once was silly enough already. It feels lazy and stupid. Plus Ichigo screaming like an idiot at Ishida yet again isn't helping.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also I nominate "Toriko thread 2: Episode 2" for the title since someone asked about Toriko, got one page's worth of discussion, yet no mention of the Toriko thread (and also derailed this thread for a page but no one cared).
-

True. I remember my freshman year of college when Aizen stuff was going down, and I was getting really pissed off, then the Fullbring stuff which was terrible, then the last time I had a good rage was when everyone got their Bankai back so easily. Every once in a while I decide to write more (like that one post for last chapter), but I can't be angry anymore, partly because I got burned out, partly because I matured a little, and partly because I stopped giving a damn (a 29%, 1%, and 70% portion in that order).

That's reserved to Bleach 2 Z Shippuden.

@Purple:
Are you saying you're not excited for OnePunch-Man?
Of course Iam(if Its done by Sunrise). If it were done by Pierrot I wouldve been disappointed.
Its funny how the likes of Sea King is a better villain than Ywach.
-
Prince Pilaf is a better villain than Yhwach.
-
One of the main problems i think is that Kubo wants the readers to take the story "seriously". If it was more like OPM or Toriko where there is insane action but in the end they're still light hearted with not that much tension behind characters and events, it would be much better. Like the villains could be even joking that Ichigo has only one move, or asking him why only he gets to do everything and stuff like that.
-
He is just using the Nardo/Sauce rivalry on Ichigo and Uryu in order to improve the horrible Manga Sales..

They weren't horrible.
They were just not OP level. -
Neither is OP level in Manga Sales, but Bleach Sales are doing horrible, the Volume featuring Femritters vs Ichigo was the least sold volume in Bleach history.
-
Oda is also retreading a lot on this arc:
Admirals, main fights for non strawhats, Doffy is practicaly operation utopia if it had worked, the island is brainwashed, he's crazy as Enel, but cares like Arlong.
But it doesn't feel (Too much) tired, because he mix and matches stuff. WYAXCHSIS is reheated leftovers.
-

but its still not selling HORRIBLE , it averages 550k-600k a volume , i dont see how thats bad lol ,,
-
It's actually sad how much it is still selling.

So I re-watched the first episode of this series after many years. Damm I forgot how funny the comedy was, Ichigo's dad is hilarious lol.

Yup the show used to have substance to it.
Feels kinda weird going back and watching the first episode after so many years.

I always liked Hollow no 4 for some reason.

Hollows always had these weird yet very memorable names.
Acidwire, Shrieker, Grand Fisher, Fishbone D….who devised the nomenclature, that's my question.
