No one wants to say something about Torfinns new love-interest aka future wife? I'm dissapointed
Vinland Saga
-
-
I dunno… all the signs were there, then we find out she's married.
-
I was wondering if this would even be included, seeing as the mangaka changed a lot from the historic recordings so far.
-
Omnibus volume 3 is out now…
-
Haha, that sounds wonderful.

Thought I would just leave that here. Seems we are starting a long arc.
-
Looks promising, I think.
And as long as this arc doesn't end like Valhalla Rising I'm ok with it :ninja:
-
I like Halfdan. He isn't the villain I thought he was at first. I wonder what he'll ask Thorfinn as collateral for the funds, or what Thorfinn is willing to give him. He doesn't have much, after all.
Anyhow, this chapter shows exactly why Farmland was important part of the story.

New chapter is out!
Looks like the crew are going to Greece. Hopefully we get to see them cross some other interesting locations on the way
Googling it, Miklagard apparently refers to Istanbul. Not sure why that counts as Greece, maybe different borders back then or something.
Also, it was the largest the Vikings knew of apparently. Fun city life arc awaits. -

Istanbul used to be Constantinople.
-
I read up on the Varangian trade routes once and this arc will be great if it delivers on its promise.
Also,
for the series. -
Shiit, this manga is called Vinland Saga and they travel in the complete opposite direction now, for years…
To Chapter 107, hm, I think the whole marriage scene was unnecessary. Thorfinn and Leif would have accepted Gudrids intent if they found her two miles away from the coast. Just like little Thorfinn in the old days. Adventurers understand each other.
As for Turisas. Great band. Still, I didn't liked their concept album about the vangarian way that much. Maybe I should give it another try, it's somewhere in my shelves...
The song that really gives me goosepumps over that matter is this one from Amon Amarth, especially the second home line, whoa:Edit: damn thats not the version with the lyrics. Please search for it.
-

I dunno about that. For all of Leif's good qualities, it's been pretty apparent that he isn't accepting enough in this particular case of Gudrid wanting to come with him; she's been trying for a long time, after all.
That being said… I liked the chapter as I've been liking them all lately, and I'm looking forward to having our runaway bride join the adventure.

Looks like the arc's over.
! New character with the gang. New dynamics to explore, and maybe more commentary on women's roles in sailing given the timeline. Should be fun.
! Never would have thought the story would lead to Thorfinn selling animal horns given the beginning, nor would I think I'd be interested, but here we are and I'm as interested as ever. -
Mikklegrad and Kiev awaits. Eventually.

Is there any news regarding why omnibus 6 was taken down from sale? Is Kodansha dropping the series or are they just delaying the release due to the speed at which they were catching up with the Japanese release?
I went to buy the new volume from the planned January sixth release, but couldn't find it anywhere. Then I learned Kodansha supposedly delayed it to 2017. That seems a little strange so I'm just checking here to see if anyone knows what's happening to the English release of the series.
-
A whole volume worth of Vinland Saga starting from chapter 109.
Tommorow I will have a history manga marathon.
-
Yes,!! kudos to Hox, I'm going to enjoy new bunch of chapters so much!

Supposedly because the sales were not satisfactory. Though not much has been said, Ben Applegate
that it wouldn't hurt if those who read the scans actually bought it. This happened a month ago and I'm still just as salty over it, not many seinen series get localized in the west as is, so it's really disappointing for one of the best to get suspended. Honestly, I think the only seinen better than it to get localized would have to be Berserk.
-
Halfdaan's wife really is a ballsy woman to voice her opinion like that infront of her husband. I like her.
And now we're back to classic Vinland Saga Vikings villagers raping and pillaging villages. Looks like Faroe Islands bring some bad memories back for Thorfinn. That's where his dad got killed, if some of you don't remember. Dat bromance.
Cool to see Thorfinn determined to check the area, despite his earlier talk about how he's not sure if he could hurt another person.
Excellent chapters. I loved the way Yukimura changed the atmosphere so smoothly from dark and heavy to lighthearted and hilarious. Sigurd's antics with his companions; Thorfinn's interactions with Gudrid; that baby. That was pure gold.
-
What are the chances of seeing Thorfinn picking up his daggers back?
-
Too much Vinland, and a cliffhanger-ending to boot, we are being spoiled…
Now it will be interesting to see what Sigurd does, since he is being depicted as a somewhat Ok guy by his crew
-
Batoto's chapter doesn't seem to work for now, so here's the original 4chan thread with 113.
-
Batoto is working now.
Thorfinn was talking about himself.
The End. -
Some batoto comments made me chuckle.
"He's not using violence ever again. . .unless you're a bear AAAARRGGGHHHH!".
"a shame, I thought he was gonna ask the bear to join their crew".
It's true Vinland Saga is giving some One Piece vibes with the crew getting new crewmembers at every new "island". It's even more similar considering the tone has become a lot goofier than before, with even the villains being a bit of a laughing stock.
I'm not complaining, I'm having a lot of fun with it.
-
Fighting a bear with only a dagger is still pretty badass.
-
Hrmm the scanlator is listed as 4chan, is there no dedicated scan group, or is there some really weird release schedule?
EDIT: nvm it's just a weird scan schedule.
-
Gudrid's reactions to the world around her are fucking golden, I'm totally going to enjoy her from now on. "Bless these continental wonders!"
Thorfinn fighting that bear was badass as fuck, can't believe he tried to scare it with a roar.
But had Thorkell been there, one uppercut would've ended it.And now this female hunter… I wonder who she is.

It gotten One Piece vibes for me as well with story being more on lighter not lately - bit like Berserk changed over time.
Though I think that in Vinland Saga lighter tone will be used to move us a lot more with some extreme violence, with using less fights and some brutal events to create very evident contrast.Village where they found that little baby and slaughter that took place in it was way more moving than some "generic" slaughter from before because I didnt seen it in VS for quite some time.
If all we get now with gathering crewmembers is still form of build up then its promises a number of amazing volumes when things will get more intense. With some deaths and conflicts along the road. Thorfinn is really growing as a man trying to live by taking path of his father so tests he will face along the road they will travel should be really great read.
I have a question considering volumes - english relases of them gotten cancelled ? On what depends if they will get back or is there already some news on it getting back to being relased sooner than later?
-
So… some excellent find by someone from MH.
This new female hunter appears similar to a certain female slave from chapter 2, Hordaland.
!
Now where is Hordaland in Norway? Right here…
!
Which happens to be the same place the crew's landed in this chapter.
!

A lot of pages are missing btw. -
Holy shit this chapter.
That was probably the most amazing expression i've ever seen in this manga.
-
Stereotypical revenge story. . .done reaaaally well. With proper tension build up, with proper emotions being portrayed, without being overblown or too subtle. The right amount of everything, in the right place.
This was seriously good. Really good.
-
I smell flashbacks ahead.
-
Yeah, the expressions are drawn quite well.
Can't tell if there are actual missing pages from the batato chapter, does someone have links to them?
-
Well then, seems like Thorfinn's past finally comes to haunt him… that was heavy, the way Hild built it up to the reveal. I could feel the tension. Damn, I wonder how Thorfinn is going to get out of this situation?
Nice seeing Askeladd again, even if it's while he's butchering innocent people.

Publication is back on, sixth and seventh omnibus will be out later this year. If sales hold consistent with the last few books to come out, we'll continue after that.

Thank you a lot for those awesome news
-
I'll say that I didn't like how the Canute situation in the farm was resolved, but ever since that was dealt with the series has been pretty awesome. A huge theme shift from what it started though, but still very good. This last chapter was simply amazing. Has Hild actually appeared before or is it a "new character", I don't recall Thorfin slitting said throat, and the slave girl on chapter 2 isn't her.
-
This arc has been non-stop FUN. Like 10x more fun than the last one.
I don't want it to ever end. Also, god, the viking girls in this manga are all fantastic too.
I'm digging this new Hilde girl. -
Wow, I continue to be amazed by this series. Everything he does just works perfectly, whether it'd just be combat or a couple of years working on a farm, not to mention this now. Holy crap, I'm way too hyped for the next chapter now!
-
So, for someone who doesn't particularly enjoy seinen, how highly would you recommend this series?
-
So, for someone who doesn't particularly enjoy seinen, how highly would you recommend this series?
This manga has two extremely different parts as of now, so it's hard to say "if you like x or y, you'll totally love this manga". It starts pretty violently with lots of fights that get pretty messy pretty fast, and once a certain guy joins the fray we get into some truly outrageous territory. It's also pretty bleak and hopeless…until something happens and you're thrown into a drastic change of pace, the main character changes, the setting changes, and except for a few violent skirmishes here and there, the overall violence level is greatly toned down and it becomes slightly more light hearted (with heavy moments).
Even at its goriest it's nowhere as messy as other seinens, and it has stayed clear of gratuitous rape so far, a total feat considering it's a viking manga.
It's a great read, it twists and turns and does some pretty ballsy stuff (spoilers I guess, but I hope you like farming...) but it's definitely one of the great ones. Right now, as Aohige said, is simply a shitton of fun to read, like a more grounded and mature One Piece, with a gang of misfits going to the sea on adventures. Seriously, give it a try.

You've convinced me. This has been on my "list" for a while, so I was already pretty interested, and I just got done rewatching/reading HxH so I was in need of a new thing. I'll start reading it tonight, probably.
-
I'd like to add also that it might be historically accurate. I say might because, outside of the evidently fictionalized accounts and exploits of the main protagonists, the other, worldly stuff going on seems to be legit. . .except I'm no history buff myself and might very well be fooled by this manga.
If the history being told is, at least as far as setting goes, legit, then that's also another plus, that you might learn some historical figures along the way!

After the most recent chapter I decided to go back and re-read the series, but I did skip over groups of chapters here and there, mostly during the farming arc, but I'm wondering if I missed something: has Thorfinn learned that Floki was the man who orchestrated his father's death? I don't think he has, and I found that particularly interesting on my re-read because Askeladd notes that it was being done out of personal vendetta, and Floki continues to act in his own interests later as well. I'm curious if it will have any relevance at this point in the story if it hasn't been brought up already.

I'm pretty sure Thorfinn never learned of Floki's involvement.
