Somehow I assumed this was the Voyage we would find out the official fate of "We Are (Remix)" but that appears to be next voyage.
I went on Funi's website and specifically watched the "docking" episode just to hear Stephanie Young's performance and dialogue. I also continued to be impressed by Colleen's Oars as, like with the Japanese, the performance is gradually becoming more distinct as the fight goes on. I'm not going to watch any more episodes so I can still look forward to the DVD coming out but it things like this that don't me regret having an Elite Membership with Funi.

Kuma sounds fine. Just a normal chill sounding voice, really. Like the Japanese version. Not the deeper voice you would expect.
-
Kuma sounds awesome. Really great casting choice on FUNi's part.
-
On hulu episode 373, which is the first episode of the next set. Does have the next opening.

As does FUNi on their site, but it's best to wait for the dubbed stream to come out for the final verdict.

I thought his voice was one of the worst choices made thus far. Have at it.

Why? In any case, it sounds exactly like the Japanese version, only English⌠so even if you don't like it, you can't say they didn't try to stay true to the original.
-
His voice just doesn't fit his face and stature at all. Needs to be way deeper. He also sounds sinister, which he really shouldn't.

Yeah. They had the chance to, but I guess they wanted to follow the Japanese version in this instance, because there too his voice is lighter than many of us guessed it to be.
I don't think it's a bad voice, though. It'll probably grow on you. Not sure where you're getting the "sinister" vibe though. He just sounds⌠normal (although at this point, I believe he's supposed to feel like a threat).

So I'm assuming you don't care for the Japanese voice either then?
When I first heard Kuma's original voice I was not that big a fan of it myself but, as time went on, I became pretty fond of the lighter voice Kuma has. So I'm glad they kept it that way in the english version. Though I don't really think the voice comes off all that sinister soundingâŚ
-
I think it's fine, though I think it's silly to make a big deal about it. Considering you'll only hear his voice a couple times and than never again for the entire series.
Hope that's not spoiler-ish.

! Huh? Kuma as PX-0 and all of the pacifistas use the same voice.

True I suppose, but all of that is just automated and preselected phrases, but I guess it does count.
BTW tapatalk doesn't give me an option for a spoiler tag, but I'm confident anyone who doesn't already know, won't pick up from what I'm saying.

NO YOU ARE WRONG. GOD DAMMIT.
worst voices are ACE and WHITEBREAD. ace too deep and wb too squeeky.
-
Kuma sounds great to me.
-
Ultimately what matters to me is that Kuma sounds cold and emotionless (for reasons that are clear to people knowing what happens later), which Joel has managed to do well. It wasn't really a voice that I was too worried or curious about because it isn't exactly the toughest kind of voice to pull off.
-
Kuma sounds good to me. Whitebeard's voice is still my least favorite.

Wait i thought these got delayed? and yet i got a surprise in the mail today

You mean Voyage Three?
-
-
What? Who? How?
Rightstuf shipped it early by mistake?
-
Yes i got Voyage three
From whom? Rightstuf? Mine is still on order from manufacturer.
-
You mean Voyage Three?
Yes i got Voyage three
i think Rightstuf sent it in on accident because i was just pissed about it being delayed but then again i preordered very early and it caught me completely off guard
-
Did you call and complain about it being delayed?

Whoa, seriously? Mine also says "On Order" over at RightStuf. Not saying I don't believe ya man but could you take a photo of your set or something and post it? I've got to see the proof, so I can believe it.
-
I agree with Zephray, I really dislike this voice for Kuma.
-
no i didn't call i just cursed and complained to myself lol my friend who is also a huge one piece fan was hoping his slipped through the cracks as well but his just say on order, so i let him borrowed it

Uh-Huh.
I bet you like the Japanese voice, though. -__-
-
i see little to no issue with the english Kuma voice

Does this person have a history of rooting only for the Japanese or are you just assuming?
Just youtubed the separation scene and heard a line of kuma in Japanese. It's deeper and more hollow than the English one. Not perfect, but still much better. I would've been okay had they just made it deeper. It sounds too run of the mill with a hint of sinister intent.

I honestly dont know what you're hearing, if you honestly believe Kuma's Japanese voice is deeper than this English one. Tone-wise, its one of the closer voices to the original.
I seem to recall you having a problem with Moria's voice too saying it sounded too silly, despite the even sillier sounding Japanese version, so excuse me if I dont understand your view on some of these voices.
-
I kinda agree with Zeph's criticism on Kuma. I don't hate it, but it's certainly missing some of what makes the JPN voice so unsettling and dark. It's hard to explain since I totally lack the vocabulary to properly describe voice talent, but I guess the best way I could elaborate on it is to say that the jpn version gave off a nice quiet, reserved "serial killer" vibe while this ENG voice just sounds like a normal dude talking. I think Zeph used a good word for it though, JPN Kuma sounded "hollow", like there was nothing but whisper and void tones in his voice. Again forgive me if my descriptions are a bit off, like I said I'm pretty stupid at describing voice work. Anyway, as previously mentioned I don't hate it at all, it meets about 85% of the criteria for an acceptable Kuma voice, in my opinion. it's just one of those instances where you have appreciate both versions for different reasons. After all, I've found appreciation in WB's, Ace's, and Croc's dubs, just to name a few of the unpopulars. In fact I think I'm one of the very few who actually enjoy WB's dub just as much as the JPN voice.

Is there any video up of Kuma's english voice?
Edit: Last page, thanks.
And just to be clear only one of us has received their voyage 3 correct?
-
I can't believe I skipped over the video of Kuma's voice.. I must be part of the minority because actually really liked it.
And just to be clear only one of us has received their voyage 3 correct?
So AceLuffy4ever claims, but I have my doubts since after finding out he "somehow" received it, I contacted RightStuf. They replied and said that they have not received that particular set yet from their supplier so there is no possible way that anyone would have it yet. They also followed up by saying that they expect to start shipping the set in the first week of January.
Plus it is funny how in my last message I asked for a photo or proof so I can see for myself and all of a sudden he let his "friend" borrow it⌠Sound suspicious to me :getlost:
Plus another thing that doesn't seem to add up for me is that he says that he got a surprise in the mail and it was voyage 3. How is it possible that he didn't notice an email shipping confirmation or a transaction on his credit card statement? I know I would have posted what happened here when I got the shipping email.
-
I agree that the japanese Kuma voice had a bit more of a monotone vacantness to it. Still, the english voice seems to match close enough with my expectations for what Kuma should sound like, even if its not perfect. I don't really see the original voice as being that much deeper then the english voice (it still feels like its in a similar vocal range) and I don't really get a "sinister" sense from the voice (I'd probably describe it more as unsettling, though I also get that from the original voice).

I don't get it. Why do people feel the need to lie about stuff like this? Especially if they can't follow through with some proof. What do they gain from this?
It's annoying.
-
I will admit fully that my word choice is not the best. I'm not sure if sinister fits, but the voice has more of a villainous connotation than I want it to have. It needs to sound hollow and emotionless, not plotting. And the actual voice itself just feels a bit too typical.
Though I suppose at this point he hasn't completely lost his personality, so he maybe shouldn't sound as hallow as he does in later episodes? Regardless, he was never a villain, so he shouldn't sound even slightly menacing.

it seems so,though if you have a funi elite subscription, you can watch em now

I'm just surprised that a voice like Kuma's could end up being so polarizing among the fans. Especially when there isn't too much difference between the two voices.
-
yes sorry guys in my last post, i was meant to say i was joking lol but i do have access to the episodes
-
I think it'll be easier to judge the voice when we hear more of it, too. His upcoming fight with Zoro should prove to be a good test of this.
-

You're dumb. You should feel bad for the Rightstuf emplyees you hassled.

I'm just surprised that a voice like Kuma's could end up being so polarizing among the fans. Especially when there isn't too much difference between the two voices.
Kuma is a very specific character. His traits dictate a certain voice. So the divide here is the people who aren't picky and the people who wanted the voice to fit the character.
-
I can definitely see where Zephray's coming from as far as Kuma's voice is concerned, as I'm not liking what I have heard so far, too. However, in my own humble opinion, I think it isn't the tone or timbre of the voice so much as it is the delivery. The japanese VA, I think, delivers the voice in a way that expresses Kuma's role, which I believe is that he is a hand of fate and he KNOWS it, yet he still cannot do a single thing about his own fate of being in this role. I always thought that you could hear a certain resignation and acceptance in his voice at this knowledge, and that he isn't happy with it but is making the best of it that he can. Joel McDonald I don't think manages to do thisâŚ..YET. This is, of course, a rather small sample. We'll see how it evolves.

Again, I really canât see where youâre coming from with the âvillainous connotationâ statement. I really don't see how the acting and/or voice makes it seem like he has any sort of villainous intent. Sorry I keep complaining about this, but I'm just having a hard time seeing it this way.

I may not be incredibly picky, but I do want the voice to fit the character, which I think his English voice does fine. Just because you think it doesnât fit doesnât mean everyone else is just ânot pickyâ.
-
Sounds like some folks hear the delivery's sinister/villainous intent and others don't. Let's all listen to the clip again before posting anything else.
â- Update From New Post Merge ---
You know; I think I know why he sounds a bit too menacing to me. It's the lowness of his voice and the fact that he sounds a bit like Rob Lucci. Listen to it with your eyes closed before you yell at me for that comparison.
-
Hm I don't know how I feel about Kuma's voice yet. I need to hear more from him. So far he's not bad, but not as good as the japanese version I guess.

You have some nerve.
Who the hell are you to tell me I don't care if a voice fits a character?
So far from what we've heard, I think the voice fits. Just becauseI dont agree with your frankly baffling view on the voice doesn't mean I don't care about the castings. You don't want people to yell at you, then you write that gem. SmhâŚ
