Hm, I just realized those Force Wielders in their weird dimension are part of canon now.

Aha yes I remember 1999 too.

I'm still blown away by the possibility that there is a minority out there that actually LIKES Jar Jar. I mean dear god…
-
Jar Jar was the best character in Episode 1. By far.
He may have annoyed a lot of the audience, but he was still the best character.
-
i would have liked Jar Jar better if he ended up being a Sith Lord.
which would have diminished their overall image, but still… Jar Jar with force lightening powers does conjure up some funny images.

I think what you're trying to say is that Jar Jar is the ONLY character in Episode 1. Because the rest are mostly just actors wearing costumes, presumably quickly brushing up on line memory for a real movie they will act in someplace else.

Guess they can find kindred spirits in the minority that liked the Christmas special.

Jar Jar has an actual personality and character arc,a very unique design stood out and was memorable.
He was stuck up and proud and boastful (I can talk too!I can swim well) and thought he was hot stuff when he wasn't. He was self important to the point he would insert himself into groups where he wasn't openly wanted. While being clumsy, he never comments on it, oblivious to his own shortcomings, comfortable with who he is, and able to do things like take a nap anytime and anywhere (such as the scene where he sleeps between two chairs. He's full of childlike wonder and interest about the rest of the world, we first meet him exploring, and later showing interest in all sorts of gadgets and technologies he doesn't understand. He was a fast and loyal friend, and once he decided you were his friend, he would never give up on you and would stay loyal for years.
Aside from that, he had an actual character arc. He began ostracized and outcast, and ended the film leading his people victoriously through war (And had he not had a silly moment in the battle, more people would realize what him being accepted into the army and onto the front lines actually meant) …. only for his naivety of the universe at large to later be exploited by the Emporer.
Compared to both Qui-Gon AND Obi Wan who were... sort of dull and polite about everything and... uhm. Well, compared to Anakin who... was a kid I guess? Or Padme whose personality was...
Jar Jar is THE best character of Episode One. I've said it for years, and everyone always assumes I'm messing with them, but I'm dead serious about it. There's a reason the Plinkett reviews don't really dwell on him, he defies the entire "you can't describe the characters without mentioning their looks" test.
The proof is in if you watch almost any fan edit of the film. Once you garble his dialogue into alien-ese, and trim out just a little bit of the slapstick, he's actually really great.
(Similarly, Watto is the second best character in the film in terms of personality and memorability.)

Yup, got it in one.
Jar2 woulda been weak in the originally trilogy, but he was the only one anybody remembers from Episode 1… and I think its for more reasons than people realize.
Over R2?! Oh hell no.
R2 didn't come from Episode 1, and he had no business being in it. Also, he was with Threepio who was awful in the film, but somehow gets a pass just because he was in the later movies.

Except poor Anakin. That kid never fully recovered from playing Anakin. Though I will always fondly remember him as an appropriate representative of American children (or generally any child in a first world country) on Christmas from "Jingle All the Way"

I acknowledge what you're saying. It doesn't stop him from being reaaaalllly annoying. For me, anyway.
I'm curious though about garbling his dialogue into alien-ese like you said though. If I didn't have to listen to idiocy like "Meesa name-a JarJar Binks" I might be more open to the character.

Well, the version of phantom edit I have, has scrambled the dialogue on him and the other racist aliens and its waaay better… but I'm not finding it on youtube. (That has a phantom edit, but it seems to suck.)
Still, even a small change can go a long way.

A Scottish JarJar . . . . . I'll take it.

The Raid trio signed for Episode 7. Awesome light saber fights incoming?^^

The Phantom Menace was the only one to actually get a release though; the others got put on hold after Disney bought Lucasfilm.
Kind of strange really considering how well TPM's 3D version did in theaters.

Ah.. wasn't aware that AOTC wasn't released.
Not too big of a loss though, I suppose (and if anybody wants to see it for some reason… I'm sure it'll see a release somewhere someday).

Han Solo and Princess Leia voiced by Harrison ford and Carrie fisher would be sooooper.
-
We got Frank Oz voicing Yoda a few episodes back. That was a pleasant surprise.
-
Yeah I didn't forget Yoda. But it wasn't so surprising to hear Yoda since he was prominently featured in Clone Wars.
-
So we got the original Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2, Yoda and now Lando. Not bad if I do say so myself.
Also Clone Wars Obi-Wan, but that's not as big.
-

I think there's a decent chance of Leia appearing. We don't know Fulcrum's identity and apparently be messed with the voice and it sounded female and her ship is the same type as the Tantive IV, so I think there's a chance Fulcrum is Leia.
Not sure if Fisher can voice her. Her voice has changed quite a bit since the movies and Leia would be 15 around Rebels.
I think Ford and Hamill could voice younger versions of their characters, though.
-
I think they would be better off finding a another voice actress to play a young Leia.
-
Some speculation has Fulcrum as
! Ahsoka
-
About Fulcrum… the crates that he/she provided couple of episodes ago had a symbol of a certain someone from Star wars.
Here's a video where one guy speculates on it.
Beware of possible spoilers!
-
I hate watching those kinds of videos and I have no sound atm, can you just put under a spoiler tag what the symbol is and who he speculates it is? :D
-

! The symbol looks like the marking on the middle of Ahsoka's forehead, so people think it's her. I hope it is, since she was a great part of The Clone Wars and her story still has a lot of meat to it.
-
Thanks - yes, I had some suspicions myself, nice to think there could be some truth to it.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/How-George-Lucas-Star-Wars-7-Ideas-Were-Used-By-Disney-69271.html
Thank god lol .
-
Eh, on the fence about that.
George Lucas was always a really good idea man who was really bad at making those ideas work when he has complete control of a project. That's why the Original Star Wars Trilogy is so much better than the Prequels IMO.
George wrote the story for all 3, but he only wrote the screenplay for the original, and even then, a lot got changed due to the limitations he was under and due to his actors and everything going on around him. It was so stressful, that he handed the reins over for Empire and Jedi, and Empire is my favorite movie OF ALL TIME.
When the prequels came around, he was suddenly a big shot, and had the clout to make the majority of the decisions without anyone having any veto power or creative input.
I was under the impression this was being done like Empire, where George wrote the basic story and handed it over to other talent to do something with…. a bit worried to know he was apparently not involved AT ALL.
-

Leigh Brackett wrote the initial draft of the screenplay, but Lucas was unhappy with it; it's really bizarre and sometimes rambling with plot points like Han's estranged dad being in charge of the SW version of the Spacing Guild from Dune, Lando Calrissian being a clone, and Yoda (then called Minch) proving who he was by summoning Obi-Wan's spirit from beyond to fight a duel with him. She died before Lucas could get her to rewrite it so he did a lot of it himself before having Lawrence Kasdan finish and refine it. Among other things, that time between Brackett and Kasdan is where things like Vader being Luke's father popped up in the script.
So it wasn't really a case where Lucas just had a vague outline for what he wanted and had another guy do everything like some people think.
-
Rin I agree but I think a lot of his base ideas are….bad. And that the problem of power getting to him is it no longer challenged his ideas.
-
I would've liked to know what his ideas are. The prequels weren't executed well, but I quite like the overall story arc: the Emperor becomes a dictator and then wipes everyone out.
-
We will probably find out some day in the future when he is allowed to talk about it and not have it interfere with the movie releases.
-

There's some fundamentally awful concepts in it though.
Pretty much everything about Anakin, his virginal birth, trying to turn him into some dumb messiah figure, and his turn to the dark side being…like a trick instead of a seduction. -

Pretty much everything about Anakin, his virginal birth, trying to turn him into some dumb messiah figure, and his turn to the dark side being…like a trick instead of a seduction.Turning to the Dark Side is such a tricky thing. I like the concept that as a person dwells deeper into the teaching and essence of the Dark Side his mind becomes corrupt or whatever - but gradually. Anakin's descent was at the snap of a finger. Sure, he had darkness in him, and love is a powerful emotion and drive, but the younglings right of the go? Killing everyone didn't really seem necessary to save Padme. A clearer opposition would've been nice.
Return of the Jedi had a similar thing with Luke, though. If Luke had killed Vader then supposedly he would've turned to the Dark Side and … killed everyone?
Dooku didn't seem all that mad.
-
He was named Dooku, That alone would drive me to the Dark Side.
-
I guess I'm the only one that watched the amazing latest episode of Rebels? I'm absolutely hyped for what will happen next.
