Meh, I'll be honest, while it IS cool to see such HUGE boxsets having over 100 eps each and at such a price too…I can't help but fear that w/ so many DVDs in a huge box, there are bound to be a higher rate of damaged discs, which is a nightmare for those like me that hate the possibility of even barely cracked discs (since I can be nervous enough inspecting my 2-disc Voyage discs). I have a friend who was like "Bigger Boxed sets?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!
She has been collecting the Collections and is kinda irked she could have saved a bunch of money and had a neater collection.
Also About the Cast list for S6, I… don't recognize anyone but Jerry Jewel... which is good! More new voices!
I was kinda hoping for 3 more cast announcements tho:
Dogpen - Eric Vale
Jigoro - Christopher Sabat
Oars - Colleen Clinkenbeardbut that might be too far in the future lol.
It was already confirmed that Colleen will be playing Oars, she mentioned it on our podcast a few months back.

I've never received a disc imperfection. Is shipping really enough to scratch a disc? And light scratches don't affect playback, as any gamestop employee will tell you.

I'm not talking about discs getting scratched, I'm talking about them getting or having a crack mainly (usually in the center of the disc that will eventually spread). I've been buying anime since '99 and have run into many physical anomalies that can plague a disc. Some DVDs can be brand new, never opened, yet the disc (even secured) will have scratches (happened w/ a Naruto DVD set) or some discs will even have a crack (happened w/ Vol. 1 of Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki - first time I EVER experienced a crack on a disc). It's not ALWAYS down to cracks though, sometimes the disc art can be badly applied leading to either holes in the art (which doesn't really affect playback, but can be aesthetically iffy). And other times the disc can be in great condition, but it was just an unlucky disc to get encoded/printed incorrectly and will have playback issues. The LAST problem I've had w/ discs, especially in sets is getting a repeat of the same disc. I had gotten 2 Volume 5's of Higurashi in the 6 disc set…so yeah, no concluding volume. Had to return it a couple of times, 'cause more than one had this problem.
The main point I'm trying to make is: The more discs in a set, the higher the likelihood of there being problems w/ at least ONE of the discs. Returning a 6-8 disc set can be a hassle, so imagine a set w/ over 10 discs. And w/ online retailers, returning such huge multi-disc sets is bound to be a migraine. Just my thoughts on the matter. I hope that Funimation and Amazon take great care that these sets are ALL in great condition so people don't have problems w/ these monster sets. XD
-
Yikes. You clearly buy far more DVDs than I do. The worst problem I'll have is a dvd that fell out of its holder and is bouncing around in the case. Minor scratches don't affect playback, so I never end up caring.
Maybe you live in Alaska or someplace far, far away from retailers.

No, no, I live in Texas. And I've experienced ALL of the problems I've mentioned buying from actual stores like Suncoast, Sam Goody (when they were around), and Best Buy. It's not attributed solely to online retailers. Sometimes it boils down to the packaging process or the shipping process to the actual store than being shipped to your own house.
But yes, I buy and own a LOT of DVDs/BDs. 5 DVD wallets that hold 336 discs and 1 DVD wallet that holds 400 discs (and those 6 wallets are purely for anime). So yeah, I've had a number of run-ins, but I think quality control has gotten better since the early 2000s imo. ^^

And just like that, I am terrified this might happen to me. And these were suppose to be backup discs for me too:(

Looks really good! I can't wait.

that is so cool that THEY BASE THE MANGA COVERS.
-
Little bit messy for me, but not a bad cover. I like the first one more. Makes since that they're highlight the secondary thriller bark characters, since the fights are on this volume.
-
Really like the cover that they went with for this one. I'm going to cross my fingers for Nightmare Luffy on the cover of Voyage 3 and Zoro vs Kuma on Voyage 4.Speaking of which, I just went ahead and ordered all of the One Piece stuff coming out at the end of September. That definitely left a dent but it'll be worth it.
-
That's a damn good cover. Like that they included Luffy in the armor.
-
Wow, the S6 covers have been nothing but a treat so far. Hope they keep up the trend! Really getting excited for TB all over again! ^^
-
Season 6, Part 2 cover reminds me a little bit of the cover for Volume 47.
-
Its awesome that they're using the manga covers as a base for the DVD covers. They've done this a couple of times before, honestly, they should always do it that way.
-
Season 6, Part 2 cover reminds me a little bit of the cover for Volume 47.
S6V1 and S6V2 are basically remixed versions of the Manga Volume 46 and 47 covers. S6V1 is basically Volume 46 only with the pic of Moria from 47 stuck into it's Background. S6V2 is basically what's left of 47's cover only with the characters moved around and Perona only having her posing changed.
Neat. I hope this continues.
If it does, I'd expect S6V3 and V4 to be remixed versions of Volumes 48, 49, and 50's cover images.
Honestly, I think what I'd like is to have S6V3 to be Nightmare Luffy, Wedding Dress Nami, and Pirates Docking 6: Big Emperor to be the foreground image (Possibly moved around if need be) from the cover of 49 with Oars from the BG of 49 to be the BG of this one.
S6V4 I want to be straight up the same as Manga V50, tho maybe not oriented like it is. Maybe just the actual character images themselves with a new BG instead of the "sectioned off into boxes" look it has now. Maybe with the BG pic including Lola and Kuma from 49 being behind them here.
-
Check amazon, it's actually $70. For over a hundred episodes, it's definitely worth it. Think about how many hours of entertainment that is.
Meanwhile, Aniplex sells 4 episodes disc for the same price.
-
very nice cover. I can't wait

-
Perfect how Perona is on the side.

As someone who has been buying the Voyage sets from day 1, I don't know whether to be happy or upset at these new 100 episode sets.
For someone who hasn't bought anything yet those sets are an absolute STEAL!!! I think each 100 episode set equates to eight voyage sets if my math is right…for 70 dollars people if you haven't started buying the sets now there is no excuse (I think we said the same about the Collection sets).
But it leads me to my conundrum...do you think its worth it for me to trade in my voyages for these new 100 episode sets?
Secondly, should I stop buying Voyages now because I know these 100+ sets are on the horizon?
I would appreciate any feedback guys.
-
I'll leave My standard response of If you want the releases to continue:buy the voyages here. And if you want to be up to date on the releases add they come out, than that choice is pretty obvious.
-
im gonna keep buying the voyages, and just wait for when they release the blu-ray big box sets before i trade anything in. cause they are literally the same dvd otherwise, and the packaging doesnt matter to me (especially since the voyages have more art on them
-
I get the voyages but switch for collections when they happen.
-
Just got down listening to the OPP well the dub was great no surprise interesting that they said sakazuki's English voice dounds similar to Japanese voice and glad kizaru sounded great. Can't wait to hear the song aokiji sings

only episode after 207 can be blue ray.
-
only episode after 207 can be blue ray.
They can put anything they want on Blu Ray. What's true is that only 207 onward will fully benefit from being in HD.
-
The only real benefit to putting some of the older episodes our for release in Blu-ray format is being able to fit more episodes on a single disc due to the higher storage space.

Which in turn is a benefit if you are trying to save shelf space, which I am trying to do. I wonder how big these super sets are compared to the other releases.
-
Well, I'm finally up to date on all my pre-orders. I'm really liking the new Voyage covers as well.
-
I would like to see them go back to the dark wood planking look of the first two seasons' voyages.
-
I would like to see them use the cover art from season 3.

Me and theresa would not like that.
makse OP look too dark.
-
@SniperKing(Sogeking):
I would like to see them use the cover art from season 3.
I second that. I always thought the Season 3 covers were the best since the picture covered the entire front cover.

The contents of the first huge boxed set span Up until S2 V4 of the "Voyages" release and those episodes released on DVD from September 2008 to December 2009.
So, had you waited to buy them for these boxed sets, you would have then waited 6 years (Assuming the first of these boxed sets hits this year) and this makes sense because the only reason to re-release these episodes on a bigger boxed set is the idea of trying to milk some more money out of those earlier episodes. So, they're not going to repack the episodes this way until they're SURE they've gotten all they can out of the Voyages and Collections.
FUNimation is also not beyond changing release formats up and cancelling repacks like this at all. It happened to Dragonball numerous times. the Ultimate Uncut Editions and the "Level" sets are a very good example.
So basically, the advantages and Disadvantages of the Voyages vs. the 100+ Ep boxes are thus:
Voyages
Pros:- As the first release format, it comes out much sooner
- Is consistent with the releases you've bought up until now
- Less expensive individual purchases
- Paying for the initial release helps incentivize FUNi into licensing more.
Cons:
- More Expensive per-episode cost
- Takes up more shelf space
100 Episode Boxes
Pros:- (Presumably) Less Shelf space taken up
- Less expensive per-episode cost
Cons:
- No Guarantee this release style will continue beyond the two announced boxed sets.
- If they do, there will be a Massive, 3+ Year wait over the voyages for more episodes in this format.
- More expensive individual purchase
- Will most likely be another re-pack of the same content with no new extras.
All of this together leads me to make two conclusions for you:
1: I'd say NO to you trading in the ones you have now. If FUNimation releases more details on these sets and reveals that they're going to pull out all the stops and release some REALLY amazing extras with this set we haven't had before, THEN I'd consider it, but unless you can manage to sell/trade in your voyages and make enough money on them to ENTIRELY pay for the new sets completely without needing to drop any more money on it, I'd say pass. You shouldn't have to pay for something you already own.
2: As for waiting for the new sets… that's subjective I suppose. I'd say look at the pros vs. cons of the two sets I outlined above and see if the pros outweigh the cons for you on this release style. Personally, The wait would be too great for me. Were I in your position, and I was looking at getting more One Piece for less money, I'd wait for those Amazon sales where the Collections are $17-20 and pick those up.

Anyone knows if we're getting the Japanese DVD uncut version of episode 359 or the censored TV version?

Anyone knows if we're getting the Japanese DVD uncut version of episode 359 or the censored TV version?
I don't see why we wouldn't… but nothing has been officially confirmed regarding that yet. We probably wpn't even know until the box set comes out unfortunately.
-
Anyone knows if we're getting the Japanese DVD uncut version of episode 359 or the censored TV version?
FUNimation gets unedited versions of most things. There have been plenty of anime that FUNi has done where the Japanese TV Broadcast was edited and FUNimation got the uncut versions (Mostly it's the ecchi stuff they put out, but still)
Also, most other Licensors got the uncut version IIRC. I know Germany did.
I'd say you can pretty much count on us getting the uncut one. I'm about 99% certain of it, but obviously as I'm not holding the thing in my hand, I can't guarantee it.
-
I think for Film Z we'll get better disc art
Hopefully we get this disc art, and a picture on the inside like we did with Strong World. -
Anyone knows if we're getting the Japanese DVD uncut version of episode 359 or the censored TV version?
why was that episoder censored.
-
why was that episoder censored.
Because the Akihabara massacre happened around the same time. The episode had some resemblance to the massacre.
-
Just a heads up for anyone who is wanting collection 10, Rightstuf says its coming out October 28th now on their site. Amazon still says September 23rd.
-
I know I'm really late when it comes to noticing this, but this is the first One Piece movie not to have Luffy on the spine of the box. Also, I feel that this box art is a definite step above Strong World. At least the logo doesn't have a stupid white box in the corner, and they did a good job placing the characters so that they can all clearly be seen. Also, I do love the Neo Marines logo on the side of the box, that was a nice little touch.
-
Hey, I just noticed it now too. Yeah, Strong World seemed to follow the Collections' design. I'm glad this one isn't!
-
Preordered Film Z and the final volume of Hellsing from Right Stuf.
There's a FUNi sale going on there now by the way guys, jump on it while it's hot.
-
Regarding the 100 episode boxset how do guys think funi should do the packaging for this release especially since there are gonna be alot of discs?
-
They'll put Usopp's lead stars in a box with the DVDs, shake them up, then ship them to Japan for inspection.
