The art was superb in this chapter, I don't get why people are even complaining. I don't find it difficult to understand, and that spread depicting Solomon facing Arba with Ill Ilah on the background spreading its ominous power while the whole of Alma Toran is collapsing is a work of art.

You've time and again proven that your taste is… stay nice, Enz... very different from others' (not just in this thread lately). How you don't get that people have different tastes than yours is beyond me though. Can't help you there, pal.
Solomon making his return looked atrocious. No sense of dignity, nothing that makes the reader breathe again after the 'despair' that happened beforehand. Just a sketchy drawing of someone that might as well be Sheba from the looks of it surrounded by a bunch of derpy-looking creatures.
While this is how you draw menacing and impressive scenes. Or this one to name another relatively recent scene. But I'm not someone to ruthlessly bash this manga. After all I'm one of those hurt the most by the quality we've been presented during the last few weeks. But instead of curling up in some corner and lamenting my fate I'll call Ohtaka out on her mistakes and hope for her to improve her work in the future. On that note, I have to mention this scene having potential. It would've deserved a more detailed double spread in my eyes but it's better than nothing. Same goes for the next panel. Though that one was rather lazily drawn and really could've used more time and work investment. Not sure where the hydra is coming from but it looks pretty badass. That hailed double spread of yours at the end was a nice idea but a work of art? lol no. Not even close.
Ohtaka knew early on how to create beautiful drawings (I absolutely adore that old artstyle of hers) and over the years she refined her skills (just look at all the djinn equips in the Magnostadt arc) but what we've been shown during most of Alma Toran's arc makes it looks like her skills regressed; another thing that makes me incredibly sad as a fan.
-
I wouldn't be so annoyed with the art if the story was more interesting, but it's not. Well, at least to me.

Only adds insult to injury sadly.
-
Hope there 1-2 chapters left of this arc, time to go back to my boy Kouen conquering the magi world.
-
Not even the characters in the flashback were that interesting in the end. I'm willing to forgive many things of a story if I think it's characters are good.

They are all fucking boring, I see no charm in any of them.

Mind your own business. To each his own, but I for my part did find some of the characters presented us really interesting.

Honestly, I see no difference in art quality between that page you just posted and some of the most beautiful drawings in the Alma Toran arc.
Btw, I just love how, unlike with other god like characters who never once seem to make a mistake, Solomon is portrayed as a person who failed to unite his citizens and whose own actions lead to the destruction of this world. Yet he's still respected by most (particularly the djinns and other especies) because in the end he still kept going forward and did everything that was in his hand despite knowing not everyone would approve of this.
It's a nice change of pace, you don't see this kind of portrayal that often. Usually the most important character in a story tends to be portrayed in a way the reader feels a great empathy towards said character. Why can't that person not commit any mistakes, why everything that person does has to be for the greater good? Is there a written rule that prevents that? As far as my eyes can see, Ohtaka has proved that's not the case.

I liked Sheba, but that's where I draw the line.

The only thing i didn't like in this chapter is Ugo not wearing the hipster glasses.
Oh, and an explanation about why Arbgokuen got suddenly so crazy would be nice. -
Oh, and an explanation about why Arbgokuen got suddenly so crazy would be nice.
A bit too early for that.
-
So am I the only one tired of this whole Solomon story? its weird, its boring, its confusing, I love Magi but the last few arcs ugh, I used to be really looking forward for the next chapters now I even forget its out.
I liked the first half of the Solomon arc. Then it got . . . . . messy.
-
Honestly, those Arba toad sage eyes creep the hell out of me.
-
I thought this arc was fun to read in large chunks, rather than chapter per chapter. The only thing I didn't quite like was the dynamic with the species in the end. It started off excellently, but along the lines it got lost despite the attempts at pushing back thier role into the story. I would have liked it if they made the relations between beasts and humans more clear, especially after the timeskip within the flashback. Aside that, it was interesting knowing the origins of the current big bad in the current Magi timeline and seeing some aspecs of the world explained. Assuming we'd go back to exploring different countries and dungeons after this, it can only go up from here. My only concern the power spike for the main characters not really offering interesting battles like the earlier chapters in the series. I swear. Djinn Equips, Great/Critical Magic, and everyone floating in air like DBZ characters made things kind of bland, and I'm really hoping that entire showcase that happened during The Medium fight was just " a moment" for the world to show off their powers.
-
The arc was going well, then people complained it was too long. Ohtaka should've just told people to fuck off and kept her pace. Yeah, the last couple of chapters seem rushed and filled with a lot of content and the art has suffered in turn, but fuck, blame it on the dumb asses who cried about the arc being so long. It would've been much better if she flushed the last two chapters into 4 or 5 chapters, but oh well, when people bitch and moan, this is what you get.
For what it's worth, this arc is pretty great. Our questions about Alma Toran and Al-Thamen have been mostly answered. Considering we also just had a timeskip, I wonder where Ohtaka will go on from here.

Sinbad is a singularity. A being born once in a thousand years maybe (if not more).
Nowhere does it ever say anything about what Sinbad being a "first class singularity" means, if there any others (David hints at the notion that there may be several singularities in CH 222.5, but then again, he could be talking about a different kind of singularity), if he is the first, etc. From what we've seen, he is sensitive to the rukh like magicians are, but other than that, not much.
-
As I said in the past, I'm loving the arc but in the latest chapter I was disappointed for the first time in that arc : how the djinns became what they are was "explained" in one single narrative box !
That's one of the things I was looking forward the most and all we got was one single sentence.
I really hope that the author will explain it better later. -
Honestly, those Arba toad sage eyes creep the hell out of me.
But that's part of her charm as the big bad. Afterall, she's the infamous and cruel empress capable of making a lot of creepy facial expressions.

You and me both.
One does not speak bad about Sin, Enzeru's wrath shall be unleashed upon thee otherwise!

I do sometimes imagine Aladdin eventually facing off against Sinbad, ending the duel by subtracting the black rukh from his existence. Then he'd be living a half-life!

I agree. This manga is better read volume per volume.

Pretty sure it was mentioned more than once about Sinbad being a first class singularity. By a few people. Also when he was born the most powerful people noticed something major happened. I doubt it's just due to his magical sensitivity.

And didn't like the weather/ tidal waves or something radically altered around when he was born?
Huh, so according to this chapter, it was Ugo basically alone was the 1 who created the present "Magi World/ planet/ universe" ?
Always thought it was alluded that Solomon had a large hand in doing so?, especially with the rukh being white like it was?Still not getting Arba's motivations, but think part of the reason her being 5X or more older than the rest of the magicians was bought up, ( besides showing how she keeps her "youth - like" existence in the present "Magi World/ planet/ universe"), was maybe she saw something, or a pattern thru-out her life that will be revealed later.
Still it' kinda funny how loyal she was just to switch to Il Ilah's side to remain actually loyal for real this time. Can't believe how bonkers crazy she is to actually be willing to just be consciousness to "get her will seemingly disguised as Il Ilah's".
Oh can some1 explain to me how Wahid sacrificing his life for his wife, ( while admittedly seeking out his child in Il Ilah), seemed to be the main cause of strengthening "it" to completely turning the tide into almost immediate victory?
-
@LUFFYSMC:

Wahid became the medium for Il Ilah to descend and annihilate all life in Alma Toran. What you are seeing right now is what would have happened to Aladdin's world if they hadn't stopped the medium who at that time was Mogamett. It also serves to explain why Wahid was nowhere to be seen among the Al Thamen.
-

Point taken.
(16 chars) -
It's sad how all these characters' fates were resolved in a way which doesn't make me have any simpathy for them.
Wahid, a childhood friend and comrade of Solomon, sacrifices himself to save his wife, another comrade, and also sacrifices himself to become a medium to help bring down his friend's kingdom. Don't see any passion, melancholy, regret that things how come this far… Just couple of panels and Wahid/Sheba is done and over.
Too much of the flashback has been dedicated to establishing characters and too little of it has been dedicated to resolving things. -

Yeah but I thought the point in the present was to have the medium touch down on the earth/ ground to have an effect; so why in this situation in the past would just catching a seemingly random flying body, ( albeit maybe a powerful one, but not some1 with seemingly no where near as direct a medium link like Mogamett), please the same/ similar conditions as Mogamett's situation, although seemingly quite different circumstances in the situation?

That's not what I said. I said we haven't gotten an explanation of what being a singularity means – yes, we all know he's a "first class singularity" but what does that even mean? So far, all we've seen Sinbad do is have sensitivity to rukh in a sense that it guides him. Given Al-Thamen didn't know Sinbad is half-fallen, it can't be that either. And tidal waves changing upon his birth isn't the reason he's a singularity either. That being said, it's innacurate to say a singularity is someone born every thousand years or w/e, since there's no basis for it.

Black god thingy needed a medium to descend upon Alma Toran but there was no time left (i.e. Ohtaka wants to get it over with) so Wahid pulls down Ill Ilah due to being a powerful magician like you say. Yeah, it feels lazy and it is. So you best just accept it and forget about the stuff in this flashback that isn't relevant to the future of the manga. I'm doing the same here.

Okay. I'm up to episode 17 of Magi.
Solomon's wisdom… okay. Can someone please explain how any tension and action and challenge and struggle can possibly exist when Alladin has the power of omniscience and is ultra wise and knows everything now?
Dammit, I really do love parts of this show but stuff like this and Sinbad keep taking me right out of the experience.

Solomon's Wisdom allows Aladdin to better assimilate with the rukh, but it doesn't boost the strength of his magic. It also doesn't teach Aladdin EVERYTHING, which is evident by his lack of understanding of magoi manipulation.

For those of you looking for the second Sinbad OVA.
http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=590997It's the raw episode but better than nothing right? Enjoy the watch. I'll do the same in a sec.
Edit: The OVA was entertaining. While it did add some filler scenes here and there, it didn't matter since those worked in the adaption's favor. What I didn't like though was how the final fight between Drakon and Sin was portrayed. The former put up more of a fight in the manga and stood on even ground with his opponent for most of the clash. Took away a little from a badass manga moment.
Another thing I didn't like at all was how easily Sin took care of Serendine. She was shown as this ferocious warrior princess, specializing in poisonous attacks and whatnot, and then gets completely owned by Sin. Yeah, I know that it's that Sinbad but still- leave at least a bit of her dignity… But that's something the manga did wrong in the first place and that isn't the anime's fault. I do expect Serendine to have her moment in the spotlight in the future 'cause, well, I'm just optimistic like that. -
Oh wow I actually enjoyed the new Sinbad chapters. This was an interesting tie in, I actually almost forgot that he ran into Alibaba's dad.
Will be interesting to see how that plays out. -
So my thoughts were right in regards to the hooded individual :)

A heads-up concerning the Magi chapter. Taken from Sense's website:
"And now some news for Magi.
If you happen to read the Chinese scans that are released every Friday or so, you'll notice that they weren't released. In fact, you can't find spoilers anywhere. Suffice to say, we have not yet received this week's chapter either. From what we know, it looks like due to Japan's piracy crackdown, the publishers have decided to not to ship out the magazines until a few days before release (i.e. Wednesday). As such, we expect our raws to come in either Monday or Tuesday and then release hopefully for Wednesday. Most of our group's work is done on the weekends, so we'll see how this goes. Please be patient with us for the next little while." -

I really like Ugo. My favorite flashback character actually. -
I do like Ugo, he was fun and quirky and I was sad when he died.
Other than that… well, that just happened. It was an okay chapter, I guess. -

He's not that strong so it's irrelevant.
It's relevant because he's acting all wise and like he knows how everything works now.

That's not true really. He has an understanding of some of the more important facts. But a lot of what you haven't gotten to yet he's not really aware of.
