I admit I haven't seen the new season of Korra. But I've been feeling an intense amount of dissilusionment with the Avatar-verse. It's just been piling up more and more over Last Airbender and all of these seasons of Korra and now it's just hit this critical mass. It's two simple things and these facts have almost destroyed me whenever i try to look past them to take the series on their own merits.
A. The Avatar State will never be beaten fairly by a normal bender.
B. We will never have a non-bending main villain
I'm very passionately against the concept of a character being "the best" at anything, so knowing that the Avatar is born to be better than everyone else on the planet is like thumbscrews for me. Even when I try to discard it, the thought lingers in the back of my mind. The fact that all these villains have gotten titanically lucky and encountered Korra/Aang before they became fully realized Avatars, else they literally would've stood absolutely no chance against them. (just look at how well Sozin did when he tried to blindside Roku) The Avatar is designed to be better than everyone else and that frustrates me to no end even against my conscious mind.
And I'm very big on non-benders. And even though the show tries show hard to show that non-benders can be badass too, how come we've never had a primary antagonist of a season who couldn't bend? They could've done it with Amon but no. They chickened out and made that reveal (which I absolutely despised)
…Sorry. I just wanted to rant about Avatar. I didn't know where else to do it. >.>
