Well, I figured that my infatuation with all things Hidetaka Miyazaki meant I should go ahead and get a thread started for this game, considering it's been official announced and we got some information on it.

Spring 2015 release window
They started work on this right after finishing Artorias of the Abyss, targeting Sony's new hardware
The world and story is completely new, and the setting takes full advantage of the PS4's capabilities
They're targeting 30fps at 1080p
The keywords for the game is "blood" and "beast"
There will be melee and long range weapons (guns) this time
Character customization is confirmed
There will be no map display in the game
He wants combat to not just focus on action but also the strategic element
The combat in the game is designed to feel like a life or death struggle
There will be online elements of some sort, and it will involve players "discovering" together

Just when I was bitchin about no good games for PS4 there will be: GTA V, Arkham Knight, Destiny, No mans sky, Witcher 3 and this bad boy Bloodborne.

Said this in the Project Beast thread already but yeah I'm glad that they're trying to freshen up the combat system. As it stands I don't feel like there's much challenge left with what you can do with the Souls combat we know(beyond making shit really cheap like fight against 10 pyromancers/claw ninjas at once).
Not sure thought what I want out of it. I like that they try to keep the combat strategic. But yeah not enough known yet.

No shields is crazy that indeed changes the combat quite a bit.
Call me a sissy but I would always have a shield in my inventory even if I didn't use it for long amounts of time.
Not being able to fall back on that sounds exciting. I'm not the typ of person for self imposed challenges in games, I always use everything at my disposal to get through.

My favorite parts in Dark Souls 2 were the aggressive sections, and even then I wanted more of that. I got tired of the whole "slow careful" or "pick them one at a time" approach that the community seems to love so much.

So yeah. The more I hear about this, the more I like and want.

Those ideas are way more interesting than the vague trailer. Gun/sword mixed with no minimap. Sounds like some gritty underground survival RPG.

I'm so looking forward to the new combat system. Only thing I hope is that the faster pace still allows for tactical maneuvering. I like how you commit in dark souls to a weapon swing and you choose the right timing for it. It's not about having amazing twitch reflexes it's about reading the situation right.

The games aren't that hard. They start out difficult, but it's to force you to think during combat, to analyze your enemy's attack patterns, to think carefully about how to use your stamina–they can be very punishing, yes, but you learn fast. And then they become really easy. Boneheaded mistakes and lazy play will still cost you, but they're far from the most difficult games I've ever played.

That's what makes games fun for me. Ever got that feeling of dodging through a thick wave densely piled together bullets without taking a single hit? All with your own precision and control? No? How about weaving through that same exact bullet pattern, taking a hit and then realizing you could have dodged that if you made a different action?

Okay, I'm talking about bullet hell games but the point is still there. Hard games aren't usually made for the sakes of being hard unless it's something "I wanna be that guy"-eque. It's more about cleaver design and a set of variables you can use at your disposal to overcome the odds of defeat. And it feels really good to become good at a elaborate challenge a game designer presents to player.

If they aren't your type of games, it's fine… but. I highly suggest giving tough games a try. Not just the Soul games. I have this feeling you'd actually want to try one, but is at conflict with why alot of poorly designed old games(and even modern ones) were hard in the first place. Don't underestimate yourself.

You're not wrong, I have been very curious. I just know how easily frustrated I am and that I enjoy easier and more cinematic games. I've owned Ninja Gaiden Sigma for 5 years and The Wonderful 101 for several months and never played them cause their apparent difficulty intimidates me away.

Reading about the regain system makes me feel really excited. I feel like the easiest way to conquer the Souls games has been playing the game of how to avoid risks. To have enduring patience and know when you can take that 1 safe attack.
The regain system though rewards the opposite. It sounds like it becomes about how much risks you can take. Testing with how much you can get away with to stay on top. I hope they make healing by staying away weak enough that the regain system becomes just too attractive to ignore even for super careful players.

With the new footage from the ps event stream seems like this has a design that has strong multiplayer considerations.
I didn't think I would be to warm on the idea of Dark Souls being designed around multiplayer but you know since this isn't actually dark souls and maybe also because after the souls games I'm ready for something new. Can't wait.

So how hard is this game suppose to be? I first heard that they're targeting a more casual audience, then I heard it's going to be as hard as Souls, then I heard it isn't going to be as hard as Souls but still pretty hard. None of these trailers and demos have helped. Heck, in the demo shown at the Playstation Experience they were getting hit all over the place but they were not dying or healing, there wasn't even a hud. I'm going to assume they were playing a dev-build that had God-mode turned on for presentation sake.

From what I've seen I think the actual game will still be pretty darn tough. To me it looks like a faster souls game where you have to have an aggressive playstyle to win

It's hard to measure difficulty in a Souls game tbh. It's more selective than anything, but for the most part… They are designed to be challenging.

Although i don't know anything about the game (except that it's from the developer of Dark Souls, which i've never played) it sure looks really nice.

Incoming information (somewhat spoilery, not names or lore or story points, simply numbers).

! –Apparently, the game will have 16 MAJOR bosses, 4 of which are GREATER MAJOR BOSSES (similar to Dark Souls 1 Gravelord Nito and the Bed of Chaos). This does not include bosses from The Chalice Dungeon feature of the game, or random mini-bosses, these bosses are featured in the trophy list.
--The game has 20 unique 'trick weapons', in which, are variations that determine it's 'socket layout' that you can socket runes into for further customization. There are also 15 unique fire arms, including gatling guns and cannons.
--The game has 25 to 30 unique attire sets, each of which, have slight variations of appearance in them.
--The game is apparently 60 hours long for a first playthrough of the game, and apparently, NG+ (and onward) are so hard the developers can't even beat it.
--There is a covenant in the game, led by a giant spider, that, main mechanic involves invading the world of people, beating them, then capturing them and throwing them into a dungeon, in which, the only way they can escape is by beating the boss at the end of it (which is you, yourself).
--The game DOES have a Beastmode mechanic (which was rumored for awhile) that allows the character to transform into a 'beast form'. The stat assigned to this mechanic is "Beasthood".
--Apparently, the game is inspired (quite a bit) by Cthulhu and Lovecraft Mythos.
