I will be seriously disappointed if the G&W tease doesn't mean he's in.
Like Falcon, he's kind of a franchise staple. I ain't worried.
We're also missing: Broken Marth with Mask, Monado Marth, Chorus Marth, Marth Climbers, Feather Marth, WereMarth, RoboMarth, CrocoMarth, Pk Marth
forget who else is missing.
Clone Marth, Master Marth, and Crazy Marth.
Some Mega Marths confirmed.
Triple Picture Time for Female Marth
Pic of the day. Along with Robin, Lucina joins the battle!! Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth's–it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth's power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina's attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She's also a little bit shorter than Marth.
With the Wii Fit Trainers, the male and female Robins, the Villagers, and Little Mac, varying their appearances and voices works just like selecting alternate color variations. However, whenever there is even a small difference in abilities, that character gets an actual roster slot. That is why you can select Lucina individually.
By the way…there's probably no chance you'll be able to see this in the game, but Lucina has the mark of Naga in her left eye.
Thank you Sakurai, we officially have confirmation the Lucina is not a Marth alt. But she has very little difference in ability.
All your Lucina questions addressed:
Wow, got ninja'd hard. GG.
She's different enough to warrant a character slot.
She sounds like a less feminine Roy without the fire.
I, for one, am psyched. And I hadn't even realized before how disenchanted I had become with Marth's playing style.

I wouldn't go that far as to say less feminine Roy, but there's definitely going to be a different playstyle with Lucina than Marth. Roy at least had a sweet spot toward the hilt, which in theory was supposed to promote and reward more aggressive gameplay, but that didn't really end up being the way in melee and only came to fruition in Project M.
Maybe itemless Link might be more along the lines lol. Some people looked at aerial lag for Lucina and have seen that it's waayyyy less than Marth so far, although they may have calibrated Marth by now. Either way, having quicker aerial landing lag should help a ton with quicker gameplay if that's the direction they're going with Lucina
Sakurai continues to impress with the amount of detail & attention he gives to all the franchises, like having the Mark of Naga on Lucina's eye…
I'm looking forward to playing as her; She may be similar in combat to Marth, but has more balanced strength and maybe a little more speed due to being shorter than Marth. Love it.
I'm looking forward to Marth still being the best, despite attempts made on Lucina.
you can't beat the OG Lord.
Now I'm quite sure Pittoo is in with a separate slot. I'm guessing he will be stronger but slower than Pit and will use different weapons within the same category than the ones Pit uses.

While I can see what you mean, I still feel that appearance in Palutena's trailer is most likely a deconfirmation. Otherwise he would have appeared as a newcomer at that point or just not appeared at all.
You know, all this Fire Emblem love has me wondering something. This may be a LITTLE Off Topic, but all things considered I'm gonna ask it here due to all the love FE is getting.
I've never played an FE Game ever. Should I? If So, where should I start? I presently own Sacred Stones (I'm a 3DS Ambassador)
Would that be a good start point? If not, where would be? I have access to a Modded Launch Wii so I can play Gamecube and Wii games from any region, as well I can easily emulate any Famicom, super Famicom and GBA games. As well, I have a 3DS so I can get any DS or 3DS game.
Any suggestions?

Considering that FE: Awakening was my first experience with the series, I would recommend that title. Incredible game, though I'm sure others here could have other suggestions. :)
Just a bit back on topic, another thing about Lucina too is that she could have completely different customizable variations of her special moves to differentiate herself a little more from Marth…

First claim: they're all awesome games and it's hard to go wrong with any of them. Now, that said, here follows bias.
I personally feel like the best launching points are Rekka no Ken (the first to be localized internationally) and Awakening. The reason for this is that Rekka no Ken actually has those intro chapters that explain the mechanics of the series pretty well.
Same with Awakening, I feel like it was catered to newcomers of the series pretty well.
Sacred Stones and the ones prior to Rekka no Ken are all excellent entries as well, but each has something that sets it apart and makes it a very specific experience. Like, Sacred Stones is pretty isolated in the series and has some unique mechanics that wouldn't be repeated until much later in Awakening and that, imo, made it an easier game than other Fire Emblem games.
The original and the remake, Shadow Dragon, are also good entries, but personally I felt Shadow Dragon kind of lacks impact once compared with other games in the series. I don't feel it's aged well and some mechanics are pretty broken (Ballistae > everything).
Then there's Path of Radiance being really unique with the Laguz, and it's a truly phenomenal game, with Radiant Dawn serving as a tougher sequel that ends the storyline in a much better, more epic way. I'd consider starting with these if you want to devote yourself to a really solid story that goes on over two games. And, again, I feel Radiant Dawn has probably the toughest maps in the series, ignoring cpu difficulty levels.
I guess in the end wherever you start it's a great experience. But from personal opinion, I'd start with Rekka no Ken. The Lyn chapters are a good intro to the series, the story escalates well, the mechanics make the game more difficult than later entries due to lack of grinding or a map (which means you have to plan ahead a lot), and the extra Hector mode make it a really long game with lots of replayability.
However, I notice a lot of people have started with Awakening and have been really happy with that. It's also easier to get into now since a lot of people are still playing it. Oh, and the game gives you the option of easing into things by removing the mortality feature, if you feel that might be a factor to consider.
Well, expect real spoilers soon. If nothing else, at least the pokemon spoilers.
There's a translation patch for Mystery of the Emblem ROMs; everyone should play it because it's not utter garbage like Shadow Dragon was.
I'm glad Sakurai cleared the Lucina thing up, but I'm still annoyed by people on miiverse whining "what a useless clone/waste of a slot". God. The game has to be released first to fully judge, right?

As someone who still has not played Uprising…er a literal dark version of Pit plays differently? Hm..

Considering the amount of uniqueness every other newcomer has brought us so far, Lucina does come off as disappointing.
I wish they gave her her battle stance from Awakening. Oh well.
No tippers? I don't like the sound of that. But maybe it'll be easier to get kills in the long run and work out for the best. I wonder if she'll have the same range. If she does, being shorter is only a bonus.

He could play differently. He is only a clone in appearance. If sakurai wanted he could create a moveset using the other 9 weapons in the game as pit only uses the bow, arm and orb weapons in smash.
Pitto's main weapon is also a sniper instead of a bow. He basically has the same standing as dark samus would have as a character. A dark clone of the hero who looks similar but has slightly different abilities.
That said i would rather he was an alternate costume for pit
The most I expect out of that magazine is some returning smash64/melee/brawl stages

Well, I wouldn't say I disagree completely…..taking up the moniker Marth and even using the same sword isn't winning points in her favor. I guess I personally felt that her just being a skin or costume or whatever for Marth.....eh...would kinda be a slap to the face to the character? I dunno. So far the differences are there, but few and subtle.
Guess we'll have to see.

Hmm…..good points.....although I suppose him physically looking identical to Pit screams "alternate color" to me. But you never know.

They did the exact same thing with brawl. No new characters, or veterans were revealed. It is possible that we'll get new info on revealed characters.
I just don't get why the opted for Lucina over Chrom, who is the main character of the latest game. Doesn't make much sense, but whatever.
It is disappointing that Lucina is a clone, though. Really wish Smash would get rid of that aspect.

Well like Chrom, Lucina is important to the story of Awakening….plus I guess Sakurai wanted to avoid three blue-haired male lords with swords?

1: She is more popular then Chrom.
2: Sakurai often asks for Intelligent Systems' opinion on who to add. IS loves Lucina, just look at all the merchandise and advertisements featuring her.
I think the second point is the most important part. A lot of people expected Chrom because they thought of him as the "poster-boy" or the "face" of Awakening. I disagree, mainly because Lucina's on 90% of the promotional material I've seen.
You've got:
As for Chrom, whenever he's used on promotional material, he shares a spot with Lucina. Game's cover? Lucina's there too. That picture of Chrom and Lucina dueling? Obviously Lucina's there too. The Puzzle Swap puzzle? Chrom fighting Lucina. SMT X FE trailer? Lucina's there too. Monster Hunter cameo? There's Chrom…with Lucina too.
Like, it's almost never exclusively about Chrom when he's used to promote the game, while Lucina is featured both with or without Chrom. While in the main story I would say Chrom's more important, I get the feeling that Lucina's favoured as an "advertising" type character, much like how Lyn's featured as an Assist Trophy for her game, even though she's the least important protagonist in hers too.
Basically Lucina has Wolverine Publicity not that's a bad thing.

Yes.
I do know that Ike was chosen by Intelligent systems for brawl, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lucina was as well.
I'm not sure about Robin, and I know Marth and Roy were chosen by Sakurai.
That's a staff .
So you are right. My mistake. It does look like a sniper though
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
well marth is the face of fire emblem so he makes sense, Roy was just to promote his upcoming game, Ike was the most recent lord and stays probably because he can be thought of as the western lord. He is the most prominent lord in all the overseas fire emblems appearing in 3 if you count awakening.
as for chrom, lucina and robin, lucina is undoubtedly the most popular by fans and developers. And if you were going to include a brand new fire emblem character a magic user has been much more requested so you'd go with robin who is the other main character of awakening next to chrom.
Also am i the only one who finds chrom really bland. He's a nice guy in the games but compared to the other two he is really generic and boring to me.
I'm glad Sakurai cleared the Lucina thing up, but I'm still annoyed by people on miiverse whining "what a useless clone/waste of a slot". God. The game has to be released first to fully judge, right?
In this case whining like that is kind of stupid. Whether or not you have an alt costume or an actual character slot doesn't affect the amount of effort. Like if you count Zelda as one character in Melee/Brawl then you should count Zelda and Sheik as a single character in Smash 4. Same with Samus and Zero Suit. Similarly if male/female Robin were assigned dedicated slots nothing would change. If Lucina is a clone with slightly tweaked balance (like speed/damage), it's only marginally different from it being an alt "costume" of Marth.

but isn't that the same case with Fox vs. Falco*? I also can't tell if you're agreeing or not lol
So you are right. My mistake. It does look like a sniper though
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120430204611/kidicarus/images/f/fe/KidIcarusPitooStaff.png
Well your half right, as I understand it staff's tend to have the best range, but are weak in melee, so their basically KI:U's sniper weapon. \
But yeah people whine way to much, we have already have a brawl sized roster, but only 2 clones and Luigi. That's not bad at all. But they act like the clones take the time, effort, and money, an unique character does. It's not clone or orginal character, it's clone or nothing, all this does is increase the size of the character select screen.
relevant?
I miss Roy.
So seriously though, who are all these characters, and why does nobody else seem upset that they still haven't gotten around to including Lyn?
@Panda:

I'm guessing no cares as much because they're still waiting on pins and needles for whether Ridley will get his due…....or not.

Because Lyn is included… as an Assist :ninja:

Lyn was one of my most wanted for Brawl, but currently I'm not upset about her because:
Lyn's time and chance, sadly, was Brawl, and in that instance IS/Sakurai went for Ike instead. That's that, no point getting upset over it, it's a hopeless expectation now.
but isn't that the same case with Fox vs. Falco*? I also can't tell if you're agreeing or not lol
I'm just talking about the difference between a clone and an alt version of a character. In other words, the difference between Lucina having a dedicated slot and being "alt Marth." Which is different than a clone vs. not making a clone. Putting a clone or clone-like character in the game still takes a lot of resources because of the character modeling and animation and everything stemming from that. But once that work has been put in to create that character, who cares if it's a unique slot on the screen?
