I fail to see any similarities between Blatter and Sakazuki

I fail to see any similarities between Blatter and Sakazuki
Both are assholes, good enough for me!
-
Well, so much for drinking and Bink's sake, my countryman.
It's funny, someone asked me how the game would finish the other day, and I blurted out 3-1 for Brazil, lol.
Also, Nishimura is Fujitora
Never thought i would hate a man form Japan
-
Because japanese people can't be bad? oO And hate is such a strong word, like do you really hate a person for doing one mistake?
@Sythus:Both are assholes, good enough for me!
Blatter is corrupt, Sakazuki not so much.
-
Sakazuki isn't really corrupt at all tbh.
He's fanatical about absolute justice and won't let anything stand in it's way.
He genuinely thinks that the things he's doing need to be done for the safety of the world.
He's a zealot, a fanatic, but not corrupt.

Soo…
Could we say Blatter (no idea who he is, btw) is like Nezumi?
Also, while Sakazuki himself is no corrupt, he can be seen as a symbol of corruption of WG. If we are willing to stretch it a little.
-

3-4 mistakes, minimum. Also, can't really hate the man for doing what FIFA told him to do. You can just be sorry that he doesn't have a stronger backbone.
-

Na Sakazuki is ok, but yeah Blatter a bit of a dick.
-

Blatter is Nezumi, yes! That's pretty spot on.
Which makes Qatar Arlong…I like that.
I wouldn't even say Sakazuki was a symbol of the WG's corruption.
That would be more along the lines of someone like Spandam.
-
Qatar… Arlong Park. :ninja:
-
Noooo Tyrano, Qatar is Arlong himself!
-
Sorry haha :p
I couldn't resist cracking a lame joke. -
I know, I know.
We all love you for it really.
-
Please Oda don't turn Pica into a Jobber.

Anyone who protects and obeys the world nobles and WG is corrupt (guilty by association) in my book.

Sakazuki has risen to fleet admiral and put himself in a position where he can enforce his ideals to, in his mind, keep the world safe.
I'll be interested to see how he deals with the tenryuubito as fleet admiral.

Me too. I have been playing around with this idea in my head of Sakazuki getting fed up with the World Nobles once he finds out how the WG and Nobles protected Doflamingo, and pulling of the old Star Trek villain trope were a general attempts to militarize starfleet and use it to take over earth and the other federation planets. Basicly, pulling a Julius Ceasar move.
-
I could see Sakazuki not being as bow and scrapey to the tenryuubito as Sengoku was, but still abiding by the status quo overall.
-
Yeah, at the very least i expect to see some growing tension between sakazuki and the gorosei+kong. And i would like that, it would make him somewhat more relatable and likeable.
-
We'll see, i think it can go either way, maybe sakazuki believes upholding the celestial dragons' divine will is justice, we don't really know much about his backstory or motives, up to know he's kinda been all about "all pirates are evil scum".
…Back on topic, we get some group B action today. I'll be hoping Chile comes out on top and ultimately wins the mera mera

The Pika Pika no Mi would be very usefull in Soccer. Dont know about the Mera Mera.

That may be so, but unfortunately the current pika pika no mi user, Usain Bolt, hasn't died yet, so it isn't up for grabs.

Wich respective devil fruit powers does the current football Yonkous posses? im talking about Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic and Ribery. Doesnt have to be OP-canon fruits, you can make up your own fruits that suit the players.

The referee in the current match is 100% Foxy.

For a split second I thought there was a new chapter and we got to see Sanji and the others. lol

If only we were in a perfect world

The easiest match of our group and we only won with 1 goal. No bueno :/

Well, let's be honest, if he just turns out to be Sengoku 2.0 it is going to be disappointing.
And, for example, he seems to be on good standings with Fujitora… who seems to be fairly critical of WG. And I never felt as if there was a large amount of love for the highest command among the Marines.

Darth, dont expect only dissapointing stuff when it comes to Marines. Maybe try and make some not so grim prediction
As shown with Fujitora Oda is getting more experience with more complex characters that we cant judge after few chapters so lets just wait and see.
I expect Marines, World Goverment relation to get more and more cracks over the time as WG is getting Marines hands tied time after time and people they should protect are paying price. -

I have yet to find a Arc when portrayl of marines does not disappoint. Marineford came the closest, and they still were severely handicapped by the plot.
Not to mention they simply aren't around enough to make impact, and when they are, they are marginalised, most of the times.
Which is really, really sad for me, because I see plenty of storytelling opportunities there.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
In fact, I'm going to bet you right now, that Marine Admiral Fujitora won't do anything useful till the arc ends.
As I said before, he already had less impact on the plot then every other Admiral on their respective introductions... he started from a loosing position.

Its manga where Pirates that are center of the story are heroes while Marines are portrayed as simply oposition, add up the fact that in that Marines are not shown having more "good guys" than bad guys.
Thats why some marines that are good man like Smoker stand out so much. Your complains are based on fact that you would do things differently, though you are not the author and point of this thread is to discuss about what we gotten, what we expect to get and how all of it ties together.
Maybe you would enjoy thread about "lost oportunities in One Piece". Also marines are not any special, they are just people on other side. Same as pirates but in different shoes. -

No, I wouldn't have any problems, if not for the fact that we are suppose to treat marines as serious opposition. At least, that what plot would like you to believe.

… Well, yes. I would do things differently. If you want to eliminate that as a unfair critisism, then we may as well stop the discussion here, because you've just eliminated value of any critisism, if you think so.
And Smoker, of that I'm quite certain, is the most unfairly treated character in the narrative. Especially in Punk Hazard, when his entire role was to hype other people.

Oh, that's a really neat idea. Someone should get on that…

Never said they were "special". Just said that they suffer from the narrative. And that I cannot take them seriously anymore because of it.

As for Smoker I dont agree it was all for his further development. Vergos words about being too weak also gotten to him most probably.
He was beaten, he was shown to be in his character and he will probably be back in some future, fairly stronger, with a lot of badass scars. As he will look bad it probably will be opposite of his core- honore, justice, good heart and it would make him even more interesting.I expect early chapter after such long wait or maybe I just hope for it to be out at monday or day after in worst case scenario

Always had a weakness for underdogs ^^

We probably won't see anything else then a snippet of him for next three hundred chapters or so. And then he will show up during final battle to be finaly beaten by Luffy.
Akainu being Fleet Admiral, with Jimbei boasting how Marines are stronger then ever, with stronger sense of justice then ever, and with Marine Headquarters coming to the New World I got a little bit hopeful, but no.
Weaker marines will stay mooks, and stronger will always somehow be stopped from doing anything, or used as a hype machine for other characters, which seems to be the only purpoes of VA existing.
Not even Admirals are free from that curse anymore, it seems.
I expect early chapter after such long wait or maybe I just hope for it to be out at monday or day after in worst case scenario
Maybe. That would certainly be nice…
-
add up the fact that in that Marines are not shown having more "good guys" than bad guys.
That not true at all though. The huge majority of marines are depicted as law abiding soldiers that work for the safety and betterment of society and countries of the WG.
-

And the definition of "Bad Guys" varies… some of them are ruthless, amoral and bastards, but none of high ranking ones has been shown to be intentionaly malicious without good reasons...
-
There are some extremes in marines. Like Akainu's "school", guys who will kill anyone, including innocents and their own men, all for the sake of the mission. Aside from Akainu, we saw Onigumo shooting his crewman, just because he warned they might hit other marines. What a dick.
Then there are some crazy ones, like Kizaru, and some relaxed ones, like Grap and Aokiji.
There are also corrupt marines, spy marines and regular guy marines.
It's a colorful bunch, no doubt.
Btw, this thread became a wasteland.
-

Fish gets bad strating from the head as they say.
With Akainu as boss marines changed closer to ruthless agressors than ever before. Kuzan left marines because of Akainu being in charge.
Thats why people like Kuzan and Smoker for example stand out so much. Also I dont think that Vergo as human was worse than Onigumo. Vergo might have tried to kill his comrades to hide that he works for Doflamingo while Onigumo didnt flinched to bombard warship with like 1000 marines? Because he had chance to eliminate pirate. He is as bad if not even worse than Akainu. Dobreman also showed his attitude during War. I expect them to be one of more centric VA in story later on as they present themselves as close to Akainus way of being marines.
So fodder marines can be good for people and all but what matters is their bosses seem to be followers of Akainu-the ruthless asshole and thats what shapes marines as the force that is not as cool as if Kuzan would be ruling them. -
Has it been 2 weeks yet? New chapter this week?
-
It's just… sooooo looooong...
But finally.. I made it... We made it..
Law's flashback next chapter, I think, with Corazon's face in the last pane.
