@RobZilla:
Ok, you're trying to map a situation exactly to a metaphor describing it, stop.
what's the point of a metaphor if it doesn't describe the situation at all?i'm confused..nevermind.
Luffy had a skirmish with Teach and then was lead away pretty easily, not exactly a sign of overwhelming hatred.
The same can be said for his response to BB on the den-den mushi. It wasn't like "I'm coming for you Teach!!" or anything, hell, he was more aggressive in his call to Big Mom.
He simply stated that he wouldn't let the BB's get the MM, which is reasonable, but not akin to a vendetta or anything lol
of course he was lead away,he still wanted to save ace…and jinbe needed to remind him of that,even though up until that point ,saving ace was the only thing in his mind..seems he was pretty deep in the "rage zone" to me.
also,i'm not saying he is out for revenge..that's kinda the point i'm making..luffy doesn't need to want revenge to hate somebody,he hates teach,but he's not an obsession for him because luckly oda is not kishimoto
if oda wanted to give luffy a reason to hate teach,he already has,if he wants luffy to be out for revenge,then he will kill shanks,but i don't see what benefit that would give to the story,luffy is not avenger and doesn't need to become one to let his rivalry with teach work.

@Kirk:
Yes there is a reason. For him to mature, to live in a world without his idol, it's that simple.
he has already matured,ace death's served that purpose.
if you mean become all serious,well that would not be the case…luffy's similiarity to roger is kinda the point of the entire manga,and roger was just a crazy guy who become the strongest out of sheer luck and the need to protect the people he cared about...exactly what luffy is now.
luffy doesn't need to change,or mature anymore,because it's exactly his being different from every other pirate that would make him pirate king.
