Great colouring work there!
And yea, Helbram's a great antagonist. I really like how he's just having so much fun being a villain.
I love how he's got all the mannerisms of a goofy-yet-competent rogueish old powerhouse character which usually aids the heroes - only he's impaling the heroes with icebergs.
Its' a synergistic combination: By being upbeat and slightly wacky he's endearing and entertaining -which makes the contrast to brutal apathy for others safety more pronounced.
Yes yes, I know this is nothing new, but as is the case with SDS as awhole, its a well executed trope.
Definitely love the coloring, but out of curiosity why the strong use of brown shades? Diane's suit, the sky, the ground, Helbram's armor, Hauser's hair, and the crashing against the wall / dust?
Sure Helbram is great character. His effrontery is very much enjoyable. I have a hunch about him: The demon clan is much more powerful than the Dreyfus, Hendricksen and their knights, and should be the real enemy of the protagonists. The knights have been scheming to release the Demon Clan; and It's like they don't know what immense danger they are releasing. I have the feeling Helbram knows it, and that he's working directly for the demon clan, manipulating Hendricksen in order to break the seal that keeps the clan captive.

Reminds me a lot of King Bradley in Brotherhood. That's the vibe I get from him.

Diane's suit looks orange to me, but I've been told multiple times by many people that my perceptions of 'orange, brown, and red' is not what their perceptions are, haha! That's something I'll have to learn to fix on my own just by going against my own eyes, which isn't easy!
Also, Helbrams armor is orange too, almost yellow, and Hauser's hair is brown/blonde. I based their colors on one of the color spreads, so I used official colors.
So the above, I just used what I knew from the manga. As for the browns in the sky, I wanted to use a more orangish color (again my orange is your brown! lol) to contrast the blue of the iceburg. At first I had blue on blue, which didn't turn out very appealing.
As for the ground, well, the ground is usually brown. I used a bit of yellow straw color as well, because in previous panels its seen that the road is not totally stone, but sometimes have a straw overlaying it. The only real reason it melds into the sky color near the far right is because the artist didn't use any solid lines there, and I didn't want there to be a sharp contrast where the sky met the ground.
Other than that, I have no reason, haha!
Thanks so much for the comment, and thanks to everyone else as well! I'll continue to color this awesome manga. It's one of my absolute favorite to color.
Man your coloring technique is great as always. Have to say though I'm not a fan of the color choice being so overly brown. It reminds me a lot of the monotone palette you could see employed in way to many games in the last decade. But that may just be a personal thing. I mean the color choice gives it overall this barren/hopeless feeling which may have been your intention given the scene at hand.
I've been told multiple times by many people that my perceptions of 'orange, brown, and red' is not what their perceptions are, haha!
That's very interesting and explains all of my questions, thanks! I always love to see your colored pages, so keep them coming. Also, if you don't mind my further comments, I don't know if they'll help at all? If you do mind let me know, sorry ahead of time! Anyway:
I did not think of using purple huge with the ice. That might be pretty interesting effect. I'll try that out next time! I'll keep your other comments in mind next time as well, cause I'll certainly be coloring this manga again. The linerart the artist provides is almost always perfect, and the only changed I have to do is redraw black parts and just erase text.
Ah, and scenery wise, I tried to keep it consistent with my previous coloring:
Though I can see why that coloring also lacks the gray colors you're talking about.
And lastly, here is another coloring where my 'red' is everyone elses 'brown' hahaha.
!
Anyway, thanks!
Beautiful Hitot!! Thanks for sharing :-)
I just bought the 2 volumes available. It was really nice to reread Diane and Ban introductions. There was no big info in the bonus unfortunately. It's confirmed that Diane is the sin of envy because she wants to be little.
I need to make certain that I did not misunderstand something:
The sword Meloidas currently wields is not his sacred treasure, right?

No, its a present from his dead girlfriend.
We dont know if his sacred treasure is a sword. On the prototype episode he wielded a huge Berserk like sword but on the regular series it was said that he never used swords in combat.

That when he was in Danafor. Everybody would love to see Meliodas going double-wielding.
Spoiler of Ch 72. Credits: ferdinbeer from RH
! King is angry and frustrated that he couldn't protect Diane. Helbram taunts King. King starts pummeling Helbram and seems to have the upper hand. He then tells Helbram to return to his original form so that he can fight with his full strength. Helbram's real appearance is similar to a fairy. They resume fighting.
Man, based on those spoilers, I'm really excited for the chapter! Honestly, not many manga keep me excited on nearly every single chapter.

Helbram's position officially cemented as one of the top tiers. Holy shit.
Wow that chapter was hype.
I liked more Hellbram as an old timer than as a magic brat ;_;
If anything I'm afraid things are going too fast. King Vs Hellbram and more info about King's past in the next episodes, Diane is dying, Gowther trapped by some mysterious foe, Arthur and Hendricksen fight goes on, Threader is about to go mad in the castle and all while Meliodas and Ban still search for Elizabethā¦This is just too much at once, hype meters are going to burst.
Great Odin's Raven! That was sweet.
Is Helbram like an Anti-Fairy or a Pixie?
He is kinda sinister to be a Fairy.
^Fairies's are kind of assholes in older stories.

Not liking the fact Helbram now looks/has always looked like this : /
Good chapter but heā¦.I preffered the old design like a hundredfold.
King has always been a badass. He has rarely struggled against any enemy, even Ban or Guila. Diane was almost able to defeat Helbraum with Gideon, so I think that Helbraum doesn't have a chance against Chastiefol.
HOWEVERā¦. WHAT. WHO REALLY IS HELBRAUM? Pretty obvious now that he isn't just a regular man or a regular Holy Knight. He has a much deeper history. If I had to guess, it looks like he's a Fairy.
WELL. That was a pretty amazing chapter. Next chapter, I'm guessing it'll be a showdown between Helbraum and King.
Well, here is another coloring! A small one this time. I thought the design was neat so I tried to incorporate Helbraum's regular color palette to this new form.
Yeah, I too prefer the geezer version of Helbram. The fairy brat looks somewhat generic. Other than that, a great set-up chapter.

I prefered Gowther as the Armor Giant and I am okay with this now.
All this shapeshifting makes me wonder if Meliodas would transform someday into his wanted poster. I know its too cliche, but I like in battle transformations, call it an aftereffect of growing with Dragon Ball.
I still don't get why Helbram had an eyepatch.
Just what happened in the Fairy Kindgom 700 hundred years ago? Let me take note of what we know about it.
We know we have: King came late on that moment, (said by Helbram in this chapter). Likely because of what happened he decided to abandoned the kingdom and left it in charge of Elaine. But itās sure when he came back, 10 years ago, he was expecting to meet his family and people, (ch 21). Which itās weird because when Ban arrive to the town just 20 years ago, there seemed to be only one fairy: Elaine.
Helbram was there 700 years ago, and King made a promise to him, which now he plans to fulfil. Since he plans to beat and likely kill Helbram because of what he did to Diane, I guess he promised Helbram to kill him. And actually he was thinking he did it, but some days ago, in Bizel, he discovered he failed.
We also have some background about the relationship between humans and fairies, thanks to Elaine's speech in the city of dead:
I already know that youāll grant my wish. Your power is stronger when you wield it for others than for yourself. Not just for me, but for your friends who need you. I know that, youāre kinder than anyone else. I know how you kept blaming yourself in front of the burnt-down hometown, and shed countless tears for me and your people. I know that your power can be immeasurableā¦ In the past, the human kingdom was at peace with the forest of the fairies ruled by the fairy king. Not only was it a sign of friendship, but it was also an agreement not to interfere with each otherās kingdoms. But that was respected above all elseā¦ what repelled every invasion and struck fear into those who triedā¦ was the power of the lord of the fairies, āKingā. His true nameā¦ fairy king Harlequin.
And finally Helbram thinks King is a coward, and seems to hold some grudge against King, as we can see in the last pages of the chapter: the always frivolous and insensitive Helbram, looks and yells enraged to King to shut up. Those the pieces of the intriguing puzzle.
ā- Update From New Post Merge ---
And somewhere it was said that King could't use his full power because of Helbram, but I couldn't find it. If anyone remembers that would be very much appreciated.
It was in chapter 59 when Gowther joined.
Will King has a different true form? He looks like a kid rather than like a fairy.
I hope that the civilians have finished evacuating by now.
44 pages chapter length next week !

By next week do you mean Sunday two days from now or the week after that?
By next week do you mean Sunday two days from now or the week after that?
The week after this weekend. Before thatt, we'll have the regular chapter this weekend.
Also the long chapter will be a side story about King's past, similar to the gaiden about Ban.
New chapter is out =)

Helbram reminds me a lot of Exdeath for some reason. What does hodgepodge even means?
King's sin introduced next chapter with 40+ pages, hell yes!!
And another good episode. Nakaba is on a roll
And another good episode. Nakaba is on a roll
Indeed, all chapters since this arc began have been great. This is really high level shounen so far. And next week flashback sure is promising. I wonder if a bit of Diane past will be included in it since hers is missing so far.
Good chapter, felt really short though.
Now, another gaiden? If it's as good as Ban's, this will be good indeed.
Can't fucking wait.
I really looking to see more Fairy people.
I'm enjoying how the hype train has yet to stop for me.
Oh man one week holiday and so many awesome things to catch up to. This manga so far is awesome, yeah.
My 2 cents:
The sacred tree is much more a sentient being. In the Gaiden we saw how the tree (not sure if that was the same sacred tree) knew Ban has been protected it from the Demon. Now the sacred tree seems to have a will since he can forsake others. What is the story here? Sure the next chapter will be great since it will be very informative about important things here.
Anyway, we already have some knowledge. The previous chapter we saw how Helbram was enraged towards King, and how he seemed to blame this later for something he did or not: āYou never show up in time, you are always too late. ā¦that time seven hundred years ago.ā (ch 72 pg 7) This chapter we come to know Helbram lost something very important to him. It seems pretty much that King could have prevented that Helbramās loss if he would have been on time in that past important event. But by the way King talks about Helbramās loss (you should know how painful it is to lose somethingā¦ā), it doesn't seem the event was something personal between Helbram and him.
That makes much sense, since the attitudes of Helbram and the sacred tree towards King seem to be the same: reprobation, accusation and judgement, etc. As Helbram let us know, chastefiol doesn't make anything to him because heās a fairy and in comparison to King, he was not condemned by it.
But there is also evidence that support the idea that something special happened between King and Hlebram: the promise made by the former to the later, and the fact that King canāt or doesn't want to use his full power because of Helbram.
Now, the only known thing that it doesnāt make much sense in all this panorama is the promise King made to Helbramā¦ Yesā¦ King asks Helbram to return to his original form to be able to fight him with all his power, and then says to this later that he will fulfill that promise to him? I was thinking that Helbram did something to King that make this later to promise he would be taking revenge of Helbram or something ,butā¦ if King is guilty for Helbramās loss, the promise should have to be other.. one that makes sense in the middle this current fight. Does anyone has an idea about what could it be?
ā---
It seems there is an special relationship between trees and fairies. We donāt know if the tree inhabited by Elaine was the same sacred tree which forsook King or some part of it. Anyway, are those roots used by Helbram roots of the sacred tree? He calls it āthe sacred treeā so it must be. This is interesting, because Chastefiol is made of that tree: so it seems that the fairies can use parts of the sacred tree, which make of them powerful warriors. I hope next chapter more of this will be known.
Anyway, Elaineās tree was burnt out and completely destroyed. Also I guess Helbram roots are not a recent acquisition and he has been using those roots for much more time than 20 years. In fact, it has been hinted that he was the brain behind the demon that tried to get the fountain of immortality, and ended destroying Elaineās tree.
Now, whatās with the faces on the brands used by Helbram? Sure it seems to be a devil tree, and since Helbram likes to experiment with demon blood, the chance that some important tree has been inoculated with demon blood is pretty clear there.
Two more questions about those trees: if those are the thinnest roots, how big should have to be that tree? And Ban has the last seed of this later tree; so what King would be able to do with that seed?
ā---
On a different topic, Kingās power rose to an incredible level, and just, why is Diane talking about the smell of Harlequin? Itās interesting, because we only knew that Helbram knew that name:
But after all, Diane also knew it and know she remembers about itā¦ Those two last panels of the chapter make my hope that Diane put her eyes on King someday in a romantic way, grows a bit. Meliodas has his hand full with Elizabeth soā¦
