Gotta love all of the movie 6 spoilers.
Indeed. With all the information being thrown out, the only reason left to watch it is on artistic merit alone.

Movie 6 is indeed a feast for the eyes…unless you're a Naoki Tate hater...in which case, you will hate the movie for the art alone. =_=; I personally love the art and animation in this movie and one of the factors that really makes me wanna check out Wolf Children (by the same guy who did this movie, Hosoda, I believe).
off topic, but I just got S5V5 and am watching it now…..
Jerry Jewel is a very very good actor.... but he's a very very bad commentary host....

Wolf Children is good, but Summer Wars is a bit better. Both are by the same director.

The absolute worst. I struggled to get through those commentaries. His stupidity is fun for about five minutes before it gets really grating.

I already have Summer Wars and greatly enjoyed it. I just wish Best Buy would freaking stock it again. They stock it for under a week…then never restocked.
Haven't watched the commentaries since season 3 honestly, I always just try to get through the DVD's first and then forget to go back for a rewatch with the commentary.
Oh god…. my sides... that guy..... when Robin was... "Persuading" Franky to join, they had a guy go "That sounds like someone is choking a chicken to death!"
Oh FUNi, that's…. that's some translation thur... yup....

Hey did you guys see this article?

Looks like they still are dubbing Z but they aren't as willing to share info about the movie now.
What exactly did Jerry Jewell do during these commentaries that made him so obnoxious? I mean, it is admittedly annoying that they chose two random filler episodes to talk over out of all the episodes in the set, but I can't help but still be curious. Was it because they just talked about miscellaneous, unrelated things instead of what it was like recording the episode like they usually do?
He talks with a weird voice inflection the whole time and just generally says really stupid things.
What's another word for chicken?
"Choking the Chicken" is slang for jacking off/masturbating.
It's a seldom used and really outdated phrase which is probably why no one's pointed it out yet.

Honestly the best response that could have been posted for that.

I take offense to that. I'm totally a Naoki Tate hater and yet Baron Omatsuri is still tied with Z for my favorite OP movie. And for the record I also think Mamoru Hosoda's other movies look good. Thing is, to me Tate and Hosoda's animation are not the same. They use the same kind of style, certainly… but Tate just isn't as good at it. Like, some claim that like "Yeah the art is rough but the animation is fantastic!"… and I consider that nonsense. A certain level of art-quality is required for me to see it as good animation. Now that's not to say that everything should be slavishly on-model at all times... but Tate just distorts the character-models too much, to the point where even watching it in motion it's very clearly visible.
…That said my third favorite OP movie is 9. Which was done by Tate. Because in spite of how I really dislike how it looks (the "Armée de L'Air Rubber Shot"-scene has got to be one of the absolute most hideous pieces of animation I have ever witnessed, and the avalanche-sequence has several shots where Luffy and Sanji are done in CGI. I dislike blending CGI into 2D-animation in general, but using it for human characters in particular always looks extremely off to me) it still managed to totally knock all the emotional highlights out of the park.

Yeah, it's best not to make that mistake. There is definitely a distinct difference between Mamoru Hosoda's art/animation and Tate's as mentioned above. Hosado's sketchy artstyle is richer and with a more defined volume to the characters in motion, whereas Tate often takes the art to even more extremes where it is downright freehand and character volume is very loose and distorted. I personally admire Tate's work on One Piece, but there are clear differences between the two.
Tate's art looks normal 98% of the time.

Now, now Rin-chan we must not deviate from the topic, which is Funimation's DVD releases…
! And Jinbe is hotter than Sanji
You know, I've been thinking. Black would be good for the primary box color for Thriller Bark. Anyone else thinking this too? Think they actually will change the color or are we stuck with the new standard "White, white, and more white" they've done lately?
i want purple for thriller brook. LOOKS GOOD.
We shall see, can't say I care for what the borders look like since they completely changed and ruined how it looks on the shelf since season 4…though I'll admit, I do like knowing the idea of what each box contains without having to look inside just by seeing the image on the side of the box.
I do kind of find it strange that Season 6 Voyage 1 isn't even shown on FUNi's scheduled release page. One obvious explanation would be that they're pushing back the release date, but I feel like we would've heard news about that by now. Especially considering that they're now showing releases that are going into June.
I don't want to seem like I'm impatient because in the end it's all going to be released eventually, but it's just a little weird to me.

I honestly hadn't thought about it, but yeah, black would be good. Even better, I am thinking, than the dark wood planking look of the first two seasons that I am rather partial to.
On a unrelated but also related note Matthew mercer as been cast as Levi rivalle in the dub for attack on titan what do you guys think of him possibly playing Trafalgar law in the future?
What are some other notable voices that he's done in the past?
It's darker. Darker is a tonal word. The end. Themes affect tone, but 'dark' is a tonal word. There's nothing to argue about.
Well whatever, bro, since this will keep going around in circles.
No hard feelings, right?
Indeed. With all the information being thrown out, the only reason left to watch it is on artistic merit alone.
Because seeing some random pictures tells you what the plot of the movie is.

No, he was terrible. Did you actually watch both commentaries all the way through? He sounded like he was secretly making fun of the series or something with the sarcasm he had in his voice the entire time. Don't get me wrong, though. Since he's a director and all I know that isn't the case, but his attitude gave off the wrong impression and made it impossible to take him seriously. He also made little to no effort to make the 40 minutes wasted worth anything.
At least Mike is back in set 6. Maybe he got a negative response or something. I haven't watched the commentaries yet since I only watched the first 2 episodes on the set (just turned it on briefly to make sure it was Mike), but hopefully they are halfway decent.
Anyway, I watched about 1/4 of Strong World last night finally and I'm very impressed so far. This is only my second time seeing the movie and I absolutely love that beginning sequence with the jungle music. And okay, the Jamaican accent (or whatever accent that's supposed to be) seems so out of left field for Shiki but like Foxy somehow manages to work. Maybe the difference between why it works with FUNimation and doesn't for 4Kids is because the former accents are actually legit-sounding while the latter sound forced and terrible. But Shiki's voice is warming up on me.
Ian's Brook is quite excellent. I think he'll do well in the serious scenes as well during the fights because the first attack I heard when he attacked the ants was pretty damn good. I guess I get why others said he sounds a bit too feminine even for Brook but I think the voice will work and he'll nail the role by the end of Thriller Bark. Though a very awkward translation, Brook's "do these pants make my butt look big?" had me rolling. And I checked the original translation but it's one of these Japanese jokes that don't translate well, so I'm glad they took some liberties there.
While I find most of Oda's humor hilarious, Indigo's fart shoes and Shiki's weird comedy routine never really won me over. Maybe I'm missing the references or something but they seem so out of the blue for my taste, even for One Piece.
Well, I'll resume watching tonight.
I haven't even heard the commentaries yet. That's why I was curious.

he does a lot of work in viz dubs and video games but here's a clip of him as Levi.http://bluealexander93.tumblr.com/video_file/79378977747/tumblr_n2bxh6hVQp1qgvkaw

They have the June listings up? And it isn't there? That's weird. If it's been pushed back, that means it's been pushed way back.

Nah. They only put up attack on titan for June. That was just an early announcement.

Full previews for June should go up this week or early next week, AoT was just an early/special thing like you said.
I am pretty sure Funimation will address Season 6 of OP at Anime Boston during their industry panel. It happens the weekend of March 21-23 so we will probably know what's up by then.

Sounds fine to me. I could see him voicing Law once they get to that point. Though to be honest Law isn't one of those voices that I'm really curious to hear in English since all FUNimation really needs to do is select one of the many serious low-key male voices that they have at their disposal. It'll definitely be cool to hear all the Supernovas in general but I feel the same way about them as well. Save for maybe Apoo, if only because of how fucking weird he is.
I feel like Kizaru will be the only difficult voice cast they'll have to do in SaBaody. The Supernovas will be pretty easy. Rayleigh might be tougher.
