My favorite lolwut from Bleach is there being a squad of assassins in the afterlife.
Especially since their captain is the worst assassin ever.

I especially like her assassinatory approach to fighting BG9.

- They purposefully refuse to do their simple as hell jobs of sending souls for so long that massive amounts of hollows get created. And since higher level hollows need to constantly consume high level hollows to evolve, and low level hollows can be made out of hundreds of souls….that's alot of not doing their jobs.
- They refuse to do anything about the constant bloodshed and disease spreading amongst the peasants while they sit cooped up in their city, protected by huge walls and the lack of any sort of military threat.

- They know people from a certain point are so destitute that none of them wear shoes. They do nothing about this.
- Mayuri is known to have commited acts of torture and inhuman experimentation and is known to be guilty of genocide against an entire race of people, by extremely sadistic and cruel ways. Yet he remains the head of the super advanced, highly funded, super powerfull scientific division. He also used his own men as bombs and experimented on his own daughter.

Not saying that they didn't, altough I do not agree with some of your answers… But considering there are five thousand of them... for the entire world... you know, I'm suprised they are doing that well.
And honestly, this totaly what one would expect from the more cynical person to write about heaven...

Are there five thousand of them? I don't remember that sort of number. But really it doesn't matter that much considering that it appears that they have a huge amount of their force stowed away in the barracks rather than out ghostbusting.
I have no idea what you're saying for the second part of your post though. I don't recall any part of heaven involving mass dissections from a psychotic mad scientist or anything else of the sort No Maam posted.

If I was Urahara, I would also stay as far away from that clusterfuck of trouble as possible.
Uruhara is a weird thing too. All that shady business with the Quincy, human hollow soul pill tech…I mean really. Everyone in SS is terrible.
What's the point of Urahara's shop in the human world anyway.
It's in a pretty shoddy location and obviously doesn't attract many visitors for its cover, but in terms of shinigami products, who besides Rukia would buy from a guy who was banished for breaking a bunch of top level forbidden rules supposedly.
Besides gangsters and rogues, but it seems Urahara's on the side supporting SS

More or less it makes no profit. So I guess he's just… chilling...?

I guess it's just a cover.
Does SS have an economy? If not then I don't understand how a class system can exist in a place which is essentially a pit stop for souls before they return to the human world.
Seriously? Since when do people not like Nirvana?
Anyway, yeah, Kubo's actually got a pretty big music collection, as seen here (skip to 0:43)
It's weird without his sunglasses.
So Kubo keeps a collection of his drawings in a special purple container?
Does anyone (who speaks Japanese)know what they're talking about when Kubo is drawing?
Does SS have an economy? If not then I don't understand how a class system can exist in a place which is essentially a pit stop for souls before they return to the human world.
Oh don't you worry, you have to pay for things in the afterlife.
@No:
Oh don't you worry, you have to pay for things in the afterlife.
…why dose this exist in SS? Why does money in anyform exist in the afterlife? Why isn't this touched on more in the manga or anime? Who instituted an economy in the after life that is basically like any place in the human world? Why aren't their filthy rich people, but lot's of poor people in SS? Do souls in the afterlife have jobs and if so do those jobs come with health benfits, and if they do come with health benefits why do they come with health benefits? In some ways I can understand why SS wa formed and it's fundamental existance, it's role in the afterlife, however the fact that any class system exists within the afterlife(a place as far as we can tell that is pretty mush set up like feudal japan for some reason)dosen't make sense.
It's like Kubo used the chewbacca defense to explain why soul society is the way it is and now that I've gotten time to think about it, an eight-and-a-half foot wookie from the planet kashyyk wouldn't live on the moon planet endor with 3 foot ewoks unless the authour put the wokkie there to specificaly confuse the audience and distract them from the fact that just becase the rebels desrtoyed the second deathstar and killed the emporor and darth vador dosen't meant they have totally defeated the empire. So too I wonder why no one has ever brought up the fact that SS uses money within SS. They talk about nobility every now and then, which is something else that shouldn't exist in SS when you think about it, but they never touch on the subject of shinigami pay or the cost of housing the shinigami or their famalies or the cost of feeding them. I mean is it more probable to belive Aizen did what he did because of money or because he wanted to be god? I don't know about you, but I think it might be money, we don't know how much ca[tains get paid because it's never talked about nor mentioned in the slightest in the manga cannon so is it possible that he betrayed everything because he was tired of making less then the guys in the 46 chambers?
Byakuya vs As nodt. Round 1. Byakuya. Attacks a hand instead of. Going for the throat or eyes with his Shikai. Soifon failing to use suzumebachi at all. Shinji , Kensei and Rose failing to hollowify. Rukia turning her back to random opponent and getting cut down. Banana NajanKoop watching Renji sleep. Kenpachis non existence. Yumichika losing a fight(his shikai is broken + hes stronger than Hisagi), even if it were a sneak attack (with PIS disabled) Mask de Masculine stood no chance. Kensei could have finished him using his more dangerous Shikai for that matter. Shinji could have cut bambietta up. Komamura could have Tenkened her before holding her hand. Luffy would have gigant pistoled her as greetings, Trebol would have thrown a ship at her etc etc

It's sad that Kubo makes me hate on Beard Guy, the only new guy except Mask who'se design I've even passingly liked in this more then two year long arc.
Still, from what I've read you seemed to have outdone yourself man. Will fully go over it later :D

They are both equally lame.
Well maybe Obito's a bit lamer.
obi has a more detailed character, madara is just some guy who abducted and brainwashed a little boy. people also need to realize naruto wouldnt be who he is without obito both good and bad. like the 9tails being sealed in him. and the emo obito who was whining that the world is unfair was impersinating…. madaras whiney ass. but not anymore.
Obito was given some characterization at least. Madara is just a generic villain. A rebel without a cause, save for chemical imbalance that was brought in to explain how Sasuke could suddenly become bad. It was almost as bad as Anakin's 180. I've seen Naruto movie villains who made more sense than Madara.
But guys! what about Madara's brother! He was just so distraught about losing his brother! Err… actually I'm sure he had other brothers that died before then. But he just didn't have anyone to trust because he ended up fighting Hashirama! But... err... Hashirama did extend a hand of friendship to him time and time again. But because of all that he's just trying to obtain peace! But... umm....
What sort of motivation does Madara have for bringing world peace again regardless of how ridiculous his plan is again?
Lol. You could make a meme out of Madara. Like reverse friendly rapist. I'd give it try, but my work PC is lame. Lamer than Obito.
"I'm going to make everyone understand eachother. The ones that survive my onslaught, that is."

Ok so we saw that even from a young age Madara desired peace(he wasn't gung-ho about the clan wars), you know his history, so I'll skip to the turning point, he discovered some old, lost shrines that explained the origins of shinobi and he saw that they were doomed to always be at war and in conflict, it was something that was inherent in all shinobi(which is more or less true since the only person we saw try to solve conflicts(minor and major) without violence was Yahiko).
So he decided that if the world really literally couldn't find peace as it is in their nature to be constantly in conflict why not Genjustu everyone into a world where the concept of conflict doesn't exist? So yeah, that's basically his goal, he's seen that no other way works, so he's decided that he'll try his.
Dig the thread title.
Love how it applies to the current subject as well as summing up both Naruto and Bleach.
Haha, finally made the title after all this time.
My dream has been accomplished.
Kubo is a genius, and it was all planned. Bleach is a series that can give you the taste of one without putting in your mouth. That was the plan.

Well, Yahiko started up Akatsuki well after Madara's natural death it seems, so we can't really use him as a metric to say that Madara would've changed his mind the world I suppose.
But come on, no one else tried to solve conflicts without violence? The whole dream when they were kids was that, seeing as they were all child soldiers at the time and of different families warring against each other, that they could end the violence between them so that kids could just grow up playing instead of dying all the time like Madara's three other bros or Hashirama's, idk, he probably lost roughly the same by then. And you know what, they get the ball rolling, and other than that Madara doesn't bother to play the politics game. The whole building the village dream was more in line that, somehow, the Senju and Uchiha have been enacting out gang violence for years and they needed a way out, and it was through an agreement that the village was formed. So show'em that you can actually be a leader who likes people then, Madara!
Instead, he ends up just saying "Hashirama, your bro is probably gonna be elected 2nd hokage and I just read an ancient stone tablet of some mythical figure stealing magic fruits and distributing them to mankind, so I'm just gonna abandon it." Sure, Tobirama and some of the others aren't too fond of him and the secretive Uchiha, but other than accepting Hashirama's offer of starting a village, Hashirama was the only one really pushing for Madara to become hokage. And then Tobirama decides we'll all use democracy to decide the hokage. Fine (although not really because that's definitely not how they were handling it while Tsunade was incapacitated). So Madara should show that Uchiha are actually capable of rational thinking and not being impulsive emotionally unstable people then!
I guess you could weave that into the whole talk about how the hokage is acknowledged by its people, but Madara wasn't even bothering to throw his hat in the ring. What sort of halfassed dream is this when he doesn't even show that Uchiha are capable of peace? He's just reinforcing the whole thing by saying "I love my brother and couldn't protect him. Let's put everyone to sleep!"
Literally, Madara hasn't given any sort of effort to the world peace thing, and suddenly a magic rock tells him that human nature makes it inherently possible for war not to stop so that influences his childhood dream that's already been achieved. His motivation to bring about peace is incredibly contrived and

Except in Naruto it's played straight for the final villain to give some supposed "tension."
Why does Madara care about putting everyone to sleep? Because the living world is "Hell?" because he wasn't strong enough to protect his brother? Sure it seems like a better reason than "My crush got killed" Obito, but after that, he really has no real drive or motivation to pursue this sort of thing.

World peace cannot be realistically achieved. Humans are social creatures who despise society. As long as free will and rules exist there will be chaos.

LOL.. Madara is a guy who being emo and shit and ran away from a new found peace/village/system that later inspired the whole world just because 1 guy(Tobirama) hated him. a guy who found the Akatsuki, a mercenary group of an exiled and dangerous ninja. a guy who control the 3rd mizukage and run a system where a children that want to become a genin must kill everyone in their class or whatever. a guy who launch a 4th world war.
and now he is talking about peace.. LOL!!
and all of those thing he did is not even a thing like sacrifice 1000 to save a million. that was bullshit.
The past is the past.. all of the old story about the past wars from the stone tablet is in the past. and guess what? he and hashirama manage to find a way to stop the war by uniting the 2 clans and create a new system, the village system. and yet, Madara refuse to work together to maintain the peace and instead he attack the village and a new found peace over a petty reason if we ignored that he, Madara was butthurt because he didn't became a Hokage. he was so much care about being the leader, care more about power than the "peace" he said he wanted the most. if he truly care about the "peace", he will try to work with Hashirama and everyone to maintain the peace.
Or, he just want an easy way to achieve the "peace" by hypnotizing everybody else. that was bullshit too.
if Kishimoto just give him a simple reason for Madara doing what he's been doing, for example like, he just a lunatic that want to take over the world, it would've been far far better. all those "peace" talk was just to stupid and inconsistent with how Madara was write in the story.
the only explanation right now for Madara "peace" talk and what he did in the past story is "love cancer". and that is on par with Kubo's "i lied" reason for every retcon he did for the story.

The problem I have with Madara saying humanity is doomed is that he seems to forget there are non ninjas that aren't brimming with chakra. Not everyone in the world is one. Unless that was something Kishi mentioned, that through eating that fruit ninja are the majority on this planet…I kinda want to know how regular humans are viewing this sudden war. How it effects them.

It doesn't affect them, because the majority of the war and what feels like the majority of this entire series has taken place in a fucking wasteland.

Probably with as much apathy and disdain as we are.

Amazing how the big villages decide to pick on the Rain village when there seems to be a huge amount of convenient wasteland anywhere you go in this world.

No, I live in the real world. Peace does exist, but true peace is only a concept.

But this goes back to what we were talking about.
Why the hell does Madara care about bringing about world peace when he clearly doesn't give a shit about anyone or made any sort of effort toward making peace with anyone?
With the type of villain he is, you'd really expect Madara to do the "I'm doing this for your own good! For Peace! My intentions are pure! Why can't you understand that?" routine. With how little empathy he has towards absolutely anything, its kind of like he wants to do the hypnosis because…he decided he wants the world this way. More "Ordnung Muss Sein!", less "I will save everyone".
Overused though it may be, I'd actually much rather see Madara be played as a "MWAHAHA I will rule you as an Uchiha God" type villain. Canon Madara approaches his master plan with all the gusto of filling out your taxes.

If only Madara really was Raditz…
It's too bad because that sort of power-hungry Madara really is true to his character.
-"I'm so powerful I don't even need these gamebreaking weapons!"
-"Hashirama's back! Let's fight!"
-"Does anyone know where I left my other super powered eye?"
Instead Kishimoto wants Madara to be the ultimate advocate for "peace."
Well, basically every type of villain can work fine - if it's just executed well. Needless to say that in Naruto this is not the case as pointed out in some of the previous posts by for example Purple Hermit or Hisoga.
I would have way less problems with world peace Madara if he had an elaborate backstory as well as elaborate actions during the course of the story.
What are the chances of the last arc of Naruto even partly redeeming this bullshit of a war arc? I honestly think that its going to be the most rushed arc in the history of fiction.
I don't think there will be a last arc. More like a short epilogue just after this crappy war ends.
@Purple:

It came off as if I was defending Madara but I wasn't(yeah his whole plan is stupid). I was just trying to highlight the reasons why Madara is doing what he's doing and he isn't just going LOL, I'm bored today, lets hypnotize the world.
Plus I think that you're forgetting that Madara has some deep personal flaws and I think one of them is being masochistic(basically people who like been treated badly and will latch on to anything negative to prove that indeed the world is against them), the magic rock just goes on to reaffirm this belief. So you could say part of the peace plan is also ultimately peace for himself? to live in the kind of world where he feels that that's how people should be treated.
So if you have the power to shape the world as you see fit, why shouldn't you?(is what I think he's reasoning is)

Nah no worries here. I didn't think you were defending him, but I just don't think that explanation really fits either.

I think the big problem here is that Kishimoto has repeatedly told us through one character or another why Madara's doing this without enough actually showing that Madara actually gives a shit. Like I get that the motivations are outlined in dialogue, but none of it is ever manifest as actual substance. Did Madara actually want peace? If so, how come all he's ever seen doing is just committing warfare and being an emotional wreck? It isn't really that he just decided, I'm going to decide to hypnotize the world, but more along the lines of that he really just has no personal stake in trying to shape the world and really hasn't shown any real connection to the world to be this desperate to fight his way through the rest of the world.

Basically Madara's whole plan to me comes off as not Madara's personal flaws but just Kishimoto's inability to shape a character that really fits into someone who actually wants peace. The magic rock is just there so Kishimoto can add in some last minute lore to get the ball rolling as to how Madara could have conceived of such a really ridiculous scheme.
Like in Code Geass R2 for example, even then you can kinda see that Charles is super passionate about the plan when he unveils his plan, even though that was almost as stupid as Madara's plan. But at least he was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING LELOUCH, CAN'T YOU SEE THIS'LL THWART EVERLASTING PEACE?"
Else it just goes to what Daz alluded to, that Madara just is going along the lines of thinking that "there must be order" and that's that. Madara just has this huge rhetoric going on about how the world sucks and how he needs to change it, but he never looks really invested into it.
Really, it's one thing to suddenly acquire super powers and be like, hey I can force the world into submission! and another thing to plan out something for years, possibly since he acquired Hashirama's cells, and really need to dedicate a lot of time to this sort of project that's only been written down in ancient script, and it really does make me wonder, why does he care so much to invest this much time into this hypnomatic 9000?
