Cellular technology is actually just one person's nen ability.

Are Den-Den Mushis able to communicate with each other because there are giant Den Den mushis relaying everything from high orbit?

No the snails are communicating telepathically and reproduce what has been said

I seem to remember Gon buying a cellphone though. I think Kurapika picked it out for him.
-
No it was leorio, at the market in sin city, it looked like a scarable.

It was Leorio. 16 chars of punching ging.

Yeah now I remember, Leorio is like the nerd of the series.

Pretty much lol. "Everyone's out adventuring? Too bad I'm busy inside studying to get into med school"

You can buy the devices. But they all come from one person. They have sacrificed a social life to keep the nen technique going. It's an ability that persists after the user's death.
-
Still kinda dumb, that they have phones, computers with internet, blimps and strong enough people, but are unable to explorate their world. If hxh someday returns from hiatus togashi may explain as to why nobody discovered the new world yet.

It's not like they didn't know about the 'Dark continent' it's just that whenever they try to explore it they are met with a catastrophe.

This being the case won't it present an issue when technological advancements to their cellular technology has to be made, seeing as how their infrastructure is built on the Nen of a dead man. With this is mind I'm leaning more towards the idea that their cellular technology comes from cell towers.

It's a really incredibly powerful nen that adapts to the continuing progressing technology of mankind. It happened after one too many narrative dialogues of the guy's psyche.
also the whole thing is just sarcasm jsyk

I don't know what sarcasm is. At this point in the series we have no indication of a Nen ability able to evolve on its own even in the wake of its caster's death. So what it seems like to me is that your idea is really just pure conjecture. Unless of course, and this is an idea I just had, there's this sort of underground society of cellular Nen users forever dedicated to the advancement of cell technology.
-
I would say you guys are harping on this point too much, but I honestly wouldn't put it past Togashi to write an entire arc based on this concept.

The person whose Nen ability powers everything, becomes the target of an assassination attempt that would double as a terrorist attack on the entire world's communications infrastructure.
An elite team of Hunters is hired to protect the target and hunt the assassins. -

Sarcasm: A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to show irritation, or to be funny.
It was a joke, they don't actually believe that nen is the source of cell reception.
-
Oh man really enjoyed this episode, especially when Shoot was about to just accept his death.

I know, maybe I need to be more painfully obvious.

Yeah sorry if the joke wasn't clear enough…

! According to a rumor (supposedly from Madhouse), Ep117 is the last time we'll hear Ichiro Nagai in the HxH anime.

@Purple:
The dark continent is a euphemism for the possibility of a future with HxH. It's possible to go further, but no one is allowed to see it.
My god… The SYMBOLISM... So deep... :ninja:
-
I finally got around to watching episode 113.

Wheredo you guys want Hunter x Hunter to go when Togashi comes back (please). I want it to finish up this meeting and show them heading off to the Dark continent or whatever they are doing and then have a Kurapika and Leorio centered arc. i got yelled at when i suggested the possibility of us not going to to the dark continent yet by someone.
-
I want a turkey centered arc so we can have detailled art.

I think there will be no more meeting on-screen. We'll get some sort of timeskip with all the main characters already on their way to the Dark Continent, yet not already there. We'll get part of the journey, be it by sea or by air.

I don't see that happening yet? I think we at least need to have more stuff with Leorio and Kurapika (mainly Leorio) before the cast heads there. The guy I was talking to said that if we don't go to the Dark Continent straight away that it would be bad writing and generic (because Togashi is speshul) if it went to Kurapika or Leorio instead. I suggested that maybe we would see the 12 zodiacs leave but won't actually see the Dark continent until the protagonists go there in order to see it from their eyes. Then he hit me with the bad writing and it would be generic.
-
Alright finally caught up read all 340 chapters.
-
Do any of you think Hunter x Hunter or Togashi are overrated?
-
Overrated is the wrong word. Neglected is closer.
Togashi is like Dio Brando's dad and HXH is the Dio.
-
No. Yu Yu Hakusho is. Hunter x Hunter, never.
-

Well, you all know my thoughts on the series.
As for Togashi, I haven't seen much indication (aside from fanboys like HxHAlex and Toto) that anyone is praising him too much. With Togashi, it's very much a case of love the art, hate the artist. And I think it's generally agreed, at least on this forum, that Yu Yu Hakusho is kind of overrated.
-

You'll see. Three generations from now, HXH will finally resume and it will be about time stopping vampires.

In my opinion on other sites I go on there is a lot of overeating of Togashis writing. Kind of like what people do with Oda but more obnoxiously.

And on the opposite side of the spectrum, we get people bitching about how the recent narration-heavy episodes are stupid and boring (which may not be entirely unwarranted, but let's not go down that road again).
-
Well outside people do genuinely buy the unspecified illness excuse so…
-
I dunno I don't hate Togashi that much for his hiatuses. It's annoying but he's written enough interesting stories for me to still like him. Also at this point everything has been called overrated so the term is pretty much meaningless now. I love HunterxHunter though.
-
I've watched read and rewatched killua's little monologue. No clue what the guy is saying. Is this elaborated on later?
Yes. He completes the question at the end of this arc.
Ahh ok thank you I ended up googling it anyway and found this explanation.
-
-
So, spoilers next week?

Well a lot of monologue and little narration in this episode, which seems to work better.
That cliffhanger had me feeling sorry for Neferpitou.
-
So I caught up with the anime. I read the manga years ago and mostly forgot what happened in the Chimera Ant arc cause of hiatus and whatnot, but damn this is pretty awesome. I do wish they'd cut some of the narration out, even though it's being true to the manga it's really slowing down this adaptation. Maybe they're hoping the slower pace of episodes will space them out enough to where Togashi will eventually write more chapters.
I actually think the anime is mostly better than the manga. It's definitely more coherent art-wise, the soundtrack is awesome, and the animation is pretty good for a WSJ series. Plus it pretty much plays to the manga to the tee, only it adds backgrounds and life to scenes that were originally published as scribbles, which is awesome.
Hell what they could do is if Togashi wants to be lazy and not write anymore chapters, just have him write scripts for episodes of HxH and have it be a canon continuation of the manga. That could be something Togashi can do if he wants to be a lazy fuck, but that may be too much for him.

Oh, hey I didn't notice we reached 400 pages. A Hiatus X Hiatus III thread might start this year.

The most exciting thing for me this episode is probably the preview. The episode was great, don't get me wrong, but seeing Gon about lose it in the preview gets me excited
