Would be pretty cool if Palutena got in. get some more female representatives in the game

so yeah there's an apparent leak of Palutena in smash bros 3ds. Could be fake but if it is it is quite well made. Personally i expect her to be in it so i wouldn't be surprised
I really shouldn't get my hopes up, but my curiosity is hella-piqued.
-
Even if this particular leak isn't real (I'm leaning toward it being real, though), I think Palutena will get in. Uprising was pretty popular and Sakurai worked on it. Palutena is one of three characters from it (The other two being Hades and Medusa) who would make sense as reps.
Whatever way it ends up going, I doubt Pit will stay the only KI rep.

Important bit:
-Air time and accumulated damage will determine your period of invincibility while hanging on an edge.
-Grab controls will no longer be affected by whether you have above or below 100% damage. So… harder edgeguarding?
-
good I hate edgeguarders
-
There still a probability that Palutena is an assist trophy.

DAMN IT GUYS, HYPE!!
(been holding this back all day throughout work.)OK, let's talk this shit out.
I think it's real. Damn, this looks so real. The design has an outline. It has a new design. IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL. The background is original. The Mario is original.
Damn guys, I think it's real. I THINK IT'S REAL.And if it's fake, somewhere out there there's someone with enough time to create a new design of Palutena. And they must be really damn good at the fake.
So the simplest conclusion …IT'S REAL! WHOOOOOOOOOOO
Also, the outline ... why would they outline an assist? Why would they want so much detail in an assist? She's playable. I'm totally in on this 100%.
And I mean, even in the small event it's fake (and a really damn good one), Palutena is still one of the top in terms of request and possibility. So yea.PALUTENA'S HAPPENING GUYS!
(HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Adventure mode?
So I guess with today's announcement, the point of this pic wasn't to showcase a new stage but to hint at the change to edge-grabbing mechanics. Still dunno what stage it is though.
-
nice to see some actual mechanics changes, confirming characters we all knew were returning gets boring.
It's nice to see that you won't have those stupidly slow climb-up animations after 100%, that shit was arbitrary in the first place. Only served to make the slow/heavy characters even worse.
as for the anti-edgehogging tech, I wonder if it will cut through invincibility frames or what. not sure if that would raise or lower the skill ceiling.

It probably makes it so that it takes higher skill to remain alive, lower skill to pressure players with high percentages. I'm ok with this, could potentially make matches faster.

Pretty sure that's the Battlefield stage.

Oh Sakurai, you're just trolling now.
Isn't that the other girl from Kid Icarus (Viridi?) in today's screenshot XD

(been holding this back all day throughout work.)I think it's real because if you look closely, you can see that she has Mario Power Stars on her belt.
No faker would add that little detail.
-
It looks very very very real. I don't usually like to comment on things like this because I'm not great at decoding them. So far though no major site has disproven the pictures. Then Sakurai goes and reveals more of the kid Icarus stage with Viridi standing between two of the female characters talking about a girls night out. There is no limit to Sakurai's trollery! I'm almost leaning toward the Palutena pics being leaked intentionally.
-
Something told me the projection thing would be present from uprising in a Kid Icarus stage. Also, I'm all for Palutena being playable. Sakurai seems to love the ladies all of a sudden.
-
i knew viridi's projecton would appear. Seeing it makes me think that if palutena is playable then her final smash will be what pits was in brawl but rather than the giant her in the background she disappears and then her projection appears in the back for a few seconds
-
Or her Final Smash can involve her turning into her ugly clone.
-

It's been established that what people thought was a starman is actually just another random decoration on her charm. If you look at the first picture, the one that's with Mario, you'll see it's not there and the "starman" is just the top part of a longer charm.
-

Oh I see. Well it's still very convincing. I'm not a big fan of Kid Icarus but new female characters are always welcome.
-
Oh, so if you play as Toon Link in the spirit tracks stage, he gets replaced by Alfonzo.
-
See the funny thing is that you guys keep hot-linking to the image that changes each day. So like I was reading about edge grabbing, but it was a picture of the Two Links and Alfonzo. I really hate this Smash Dojo, I miss Brawl's.
-
It's a shame, the brawl smash dojo was so amazing. But that's (hopefully) the price we have to pay so that Sakurai can spend more time developing and balancing the game better.
-
Dojo was amazing, but the irony is that so far we've actually gotten more character information than we had from the Dojo.
The Dojo took more than a year to start revealing newcomers and it would take a looong time to reveal veterans. Sure, when it did reveal newcomers, we would get like three a month (Ike, Pkmn Trainer and Diddy in August), but that only started about four months before the game was supposed to come out.
As things are right now, the reveals are paced in a better way, the hype is still rampant, and Sakurai isn't going through Dojo Update Hell. So yea, while the Brawl Dojo was great, I'm pretty satisfied with how things are currently. We probably have like half the cast revealed already. -

Ahh the recurring beautiful delusion. That a project lead is actually the one personally completely managing/coding sites and game balance. And that he doesn't have time to give whatever feedback both of them need.
I'm not picking on you specifically but every single time anyone complains about something pre-release for a Smash game (even Brawl) the community is so quick to shout back "Sakurai is just too busy making things awesome." If that's what keeps you happy, man. :)

I would imagine that Sakurai has at least input as to what screens there are uploaded and what sort of content is put up, but yeah, very doubtful he's the one doing stuff, esp. when the Japanese mii verse posts vary in their language even if slightly compared to the western posts.
Still, one can dream that's the reason why there isn't a dojo this time lol
-
Oh yeah I'm sure he approves just about everything. But that he literally can't spare the time to do so is a stretch lol.
-
Actually, Sakurai is infamous for being completely obsessive with his work. Like it's known that he himself monitors the development and balance of each and every single character, and while most people assumed he'd have an easier time now because of Namco Bandai helping, he confirmed a couple of months ago that he's still the ultimate authority on everything and personally monitors every single aspect of the game. The guy doesn't like delegating too much.
So when it comes to stuff like Dojo, he expressed that it was hell finding the time to deal with that, and I can see why now he's more comfortable with just a picture and a trollish comment. Add to that the fact he's mentioned that instead of lunch breaks he pretty much just plays Smash constantly to make sure everything is balanced. Sometimes by himself, playing as two-three characters at once. We also know that he was sleep-deprived back when deciding the character roster just from being worried about not including things the fans want.
Maybe I'm just fangirling all over Sakurai because I respect the guy, but seriously … with him, it's not a myth that he's busy ... there's a reason Smash games are so good, and that's because that guy goes OCD at the risk of his own health to deliver the most fan-pleasing results possible. Even working on weekends. So yea, this guy really IS that busy.
-
I'm sure he's obsessive but there's also a difference between being workaholic and "busy" (and really it's also a myth that one person knows and can envision perfection, let alone what fans will like. I mean they put tripping in Brawl <_<). Not that I'm saying he isn't busy, but I doubt there would be a noticeable difference in anything if he put his required oversight to the website. Fact is it doesn't take much time at all to approve or edit updates that someone else wrote and already knows your style. But yeah I'm glad he cares so much.
-
There's no noticeable difference for us, because we're just consumers obtaining information and always wanting more. But for the man in charge of the production of two games at the same time, I'm sure there's a difference.
Not sure what your point is Foolio, but I'm telling you, when it comes to Sakurai I'm like a rabid fangirl. This guy has been responsible for my favorite games of all time, so if the man says no dojo then that's what's best.
(and no, I know no one is perfect … BUT! Tripping wasn't a mistake as much as a deliberate decision to make Brawl more casual, given the Wii was more of a casual console. The real mistake, imo, was the balancing of characters in Brawl.) -
Nah, I'm not going to lie, even when I was a casual player for smash, I just got frustrated at tripping. I don't think any casual player really cares too much about balance, but tripping was kind of a hassle.
Brawl is still a pretty good party game though.
-
The way I saw it was tripping prevented any efforts to doubledash or any of that, and it also led to those "hilarious" smash moments when you trip in front of a ganondorf and get killed. You know, the kind of stuff that angers you but makes the audience roar in laughter.
So yea, party game.
-
My point is just that it's unfounded fan rationalization when every complaint gets dismissed as "that's okay they're just busy being awesome." The same thing happens with really avid One Piece fans actually when people go "Oda is my genius god with a master plan who does no wrong." I mean feel free to love something to death, but at least maintain some perspective…
Anyway I don't know anyone in the world, casual or not, who doesn't think tripping was dumb. How does anything change by randomly punishing people at intervals? There's this awesome thing that makes all Smash Bros. casual which is called "4-player" and "turning on items." If you don't want people to wavedash then don't program it into the game?
-
Wavedashing was actually removed by the technicality that they gave unlimited air dodges at the expense of not giving you any movement in the direction your control stick was pointing (where wavedashing is just exploiting that movement by directing it towards the ground and left or right depending on the direction you go).
Tripping was added to prevent people from dash dancing, which is quick back-forward pivoting in directions to play mind games with, as tripping has a random probability of occuring every pivot. still really stupid though.
-

Oh really, it only triggers upon pivoting from one direction to the other while running? Either way you could introduce a mechanic that just mitigates that in a non-random way (though again wow @ caring about dash dancing).
-

It doesn't only trigger while pivoting, but that's one of the conditions it can occur. Simply starting a dash has a probability of tripping associated with it. Probably the same but I'm too lazy to look it up.
-
Not defending tripping. Thank god it's gone. Just noting that it wasn't a mistake as much as a conscious decision with a clear purpose that kept in mind the demographic of that time. The worry being that casuals would be discouraged from playing against people who had mastered stuff like dashing, since not everyone wants to deal with learning curves. So if you remove that concern by crippling something like dashing, you pretty much bring down competitive battling in the efforts to keep casuals in. It's like the blue shell issue in Mario Kart.
With the Wii U the initial plan was more in line with getting to the core gamers, and now as a result trying to appeal to that Apex crowd makes more sense than before. So no tripping, better balance and recently edge-guarding controls to prevent planking and easy edge-hogging are of greater priority. As for fan rationalization, there's a difference between being blind to faults and defending petty complaints. Sakurai not having time for a Dojo now is a petty complaint considering we're getting about as much information, arguably better paced, now without added flair of stuff like bits of music and a site.
Now, if you want to talk about actual complaints, then yea, that stuff can't get rationalized. Stuff like Brawl's balance being garbage and the single player mode suffering because of focus on something unnecessary like Subspace Emissary that was essentially just repetitive platforming. With no actual locations from actual Nintendo games.
-

Oh okay. I haven't played Brawl in a while but this is more how I remembered it. Honestly I'm not trying to hate on the game… I 100%ed it with every unlockable, didn't use a single gold hammer, played it like crazy. It's just there are things that didn't make sense.

I don't really understand why they see there being an intersection between casual / party players and tournament players. If someone is tournament-level and has mastered all the nuances of the game and their character, then you're going to get clobbered no matter how you try to gimp the learning curve. I mean using the blue shell analogy, I think the Smash Ball is basically that. Although anyone can pick it up. And I can't imagine anyone complaining that the game is too hard to pick up and isn't fun. Besides, as I said before, if you want chaos and chance, pump the match full of items and more players (or CPU characters).
I didn't quote the rest of your post because I agree with all of it.

So Sakurai posted this on Miiverse. Guess Palutena is in the game.

Ducks float because they are made of wood, just like Geno.
