Thanks for the chapter!! Let's see what Sanji does next.
Chapter 411 "Nami vs. Calipha" Discussion
-
-
Woot! Thanks BF!
That should clear up all the debate of what Calipha's DF powers are weak to. Didnt think it was dirt because I'm sure Sanji would have gotten dirty after being knocked through a few floors/ceilings. No way that he couldnt get a little dirty from that.
Cant wait to see what chopper does next and the return of sanji!
-
Just read the trans…sounds like the fight is still on. And it was rain that washed off the soap power...oh well whatever.
-
Thx for RAW+trans
WOW 4 more namis to look at!!(concentrates on the chibi 1)
with this chapter, the only SH who has not received "shigan" is Robin. -
I had faith in it being water that would cancel the effects (thanks again ooshi for the trans). And i think kalifa has been hit but doesn't look like she's down yet…maybe oda's going for a simultaneous knock out by everyone (nah). I'm really interested in what robin and luffy's up to though.
-
Can't wait to download it when I get home. Thank you, Battle Franky.
-
I was halfway through and feared it would fall to last week's level. But no. It rocked.
The side-story sucked though….unless....they're just fixing it up for Double Finger and each go on to their respective dreams....man....that would be cool but....LONG AS HELL.
Next week not only time-wise but also length-wise it will have become the longest mini-arc.
-
mmh i wonder did the rain making califa wet, made her more vulnerable to the lightning (as it conduct better)
-
yea i see the title story as being wayyy too long and i think oda is just trying to end it somehow, this one got a little away from him. Sanji is totally back in it! i really want him to redeem himself cause in my eyes he's been a little bitch assed lately, while nami is fighting it out with califa and chopper gave himself up for dead, sanji losses out to his sense of chivalry, which really hasn't been explained at all. sanjis character confuses me greatly but i think his fighting moves are some of my favorites. He may come back to save nami too because i remember sanji and califas first fight, sanji made her admit "he's good" so possibility there.
Was only one of the thunder balls real? it seemed there were many comming at her but all but one was fake and the single one was 20%? if someone could clear this up for me i would greatly appreciate it.
And that chapter was superb! thanks to BF and the raw provider, aswell as ooshi for the trans!
-
mmh i wonder did the rain making califa wet, made her more vulnerable to the lightning (as it conduct better)
I should think so wasn't her hair dripping wet?.
-
yes califa is all wet.
-
thank u berry berry much.
-
Was only one of the thunder balls real? it seemed there were many comming at her but all but one was fake and the single one was 20%? if someone could clear this up for me i would greatly appreciate it.
20% of the thunderballs were real, of course if you don't know which 20%
are real then you're going to have a hard time dodging, aren't you… -
ohhh Nami truely is smart… so she was holding back in the beginning to reveal Califa's powers... now she knows all her attacks AND a way to heal sanji =)
I love mirage tempo, awesome new attack. Very unique. -
But Chopper actually did something useful. He showed Nami how to cure herself of the soap-thing.
And I bet that bath dumped water all over Sanji.
P.S.: Notice how Nami called him "Sanji-kun" again? She seemed pretty concerned about him…maybe their relationship is improving? -
I wonder how Nami's lightning strength compares to Enel's lightning strength now that she's using dial-enhanced thunder balls. If she is anywhere near his level, I would imagine she could at least KO someone and take them out of the fight for a while. Especially someone covered in water.
I also wonder if the water is serving as a counter to Califa's logia abilities, ala water for sand and rubber for electricity. Maybe not since it would be the same answer for two different logias.
-
Dont think being wet will make you "more" conductive. If lightning is gonna hit you, its not gonna hurt you more because you were wet :) I think the reason why it hit this time was because the rain made it impossible for calipha to shield herself with soap again. Plus, she couldnt tell where the thunderball was coming from and couldnt dodge it.
I agree with other people though. It's a bit unclear as to what is 20%. Is it the power of the real thunderball, is only 20% real, or are all the thunderballs only 20% of the maximum power? Kinda hard to tell. Regardless, I highly doubt this is the end of the fight. Calipha has failed to show a real serious fight against nami. She's been playing around with her mostly. It'd be pretty disappointing if Nami won the fight without seeing Calipha's full effort. Also, it brings into question what Sanji's role will be soon. Will he help finish Calipha off and actually develop a little more after being able to fight a women to protect another? It would be ultra lame if all he does is carry a key from one place to another. And for people saying he might fight funkfried or spandam, I dont know about you, but I would much rather see Robin kick Spandam's ass.
-
Thank you, BF, for the chapter and ooshi for the excellent translation!
God, Bakalifa so adorable <3 And Nami is love… Oda's creativity owns all, 'nuff said. Monster Chopper owns all, and Sanji fans gets a new hope. God never disappoints.
-
ok guys… time for math class...
if there are 4 fakes and 1 real, and they all create lightning, we have 4 fake lightning and 1 real lightning... 1/(1+4)=.2=20%

I also wonder if the water is serving as a counter to Califa's logia abilities, ala water for sand and rubber for electricity. Maybe not since it would be the same answer for two different logias.
For the last time, Calipha's devil fruit isn't a Logia, nowhere in all the
chapters we've seen her fight/play has she dissolved into soap.I agree with other people though. It's a bit unclear as to what is 20%. Is it the power of the real thunderball, is only 20% real, or are all the thunderballs only 20% of the maximum power?
I think it's pretty clear that 20% of the thunder balls are real
(as none of the other interpretations really make any sense). -
Thanks BF and ooshi!!
I knew Nami would wash away the soap/bubble prison with water!!(nobody believed me) And I always knew Mirage Tempo was the greatest/ultimative technique of the Clima Tact perfect for Nami. It makes her invincible and faster then light. Awesome to see some advancements of it. But I think her new cyclone tempo will end the fight next chapter. (which was hinted on page 12) -
being wet does make you more conductive. if you're using a curling iron and i dump water on you/curling iron, it will hurt. but will it make a significant difference with lightning? will 400,000 volts hurt less? i don't think so…
ooshi78
-
I don't know if Oda would think this far, but being drenched will actually make you safer against lightning. Since electricity takes the path of least resistance to ground, if you are wet the electricity goes through the water, and actually around your body instead of through it.
-
Thanks Battle Franky for the raw and ooshi78 for the translation. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I love how Nami is able to cope in her "condition" until she was able to reverse it. I think my theory on Monster Chopper is correct, he's looking for Sanji since it was his plan before chaning. Either that, or his mind is set to finding Robin. Either way that's why he walked through Calipha's room with out too much trouble.
-
being wet does make you more conductive. if you're using a curling iron and i dump water on you/curling iron, it will hurt.
ooshi78The reason why it will hurt is because you've allowed a path for the electricity to connect with your body. Basically you've created a short circuit. It's not because you are more conductive.
BTW ooshi, thank you for clearing up the 20% issue :)
-
it depends on your definition of your "body". i'm including your clothes and the sweat/salts on your body that makes the ionized water more conductive.
ooshi78
-
ugh…somthing just seems odd with translating Nakama into 'mate' It just doesn't have the same ring to it.
-
Thanks BF! And ooshi for the translation. :)
It's nice to see this battle is close to being over. I don't expect it to be 100% finished, usually in OP fights, there's one last gasp from the villain before they totally get KO'd.
Only problem I had was there was too much of a feeling of deja vu. Water sure is the weakness of a lot of things. And we've seen the multiple illusions before, although Nami's funky squished ones were a nice touch. No party tricks this time.Chopper dumped a fountain over the edge where Sanji is. This probably means he'll be hit with water and return to normal.
-
For the last time, Calipha's devil fruit isn't a Logia, nowhere in all the
chapters we've seen her fight/play has she dissolved into soap.Whoops, my bad, I had seen people talking about it as if it were a Logia, I wasn't aware it hadn't been confirmed yet.
it depends on your definition of your "body". i'm including your clothes and the sweat/salts on your body that makes the ionized water more conductive.
Since Calipha with her df power might not have much in the way of sweat/salts on her body, how might that modify the situation? Not that I imagine that particular detail will actually be reflected in the plot or anything.
-
it depends on your definition of your "body". i'm including your clothes and the sweat/salts on your body that makes the ionized water more conductive.
ooshi78
ooshi, I think what daikonv means is that the reason why you'll be electricuted by the curling iron is because the water will have made a low resistance path between the curling iron and your body for the electricity to follow. This does not really have to do with your conductivity.
-
my guess is that they will leave Ennies Lobby on the Going Merry :) one last Voyage on the Going Merry :) it would have survived aqua laguna, and brought to Ennies Lobby by the kaubertermann (or wot its called :P)
I'd put money on you being 100% correct. Would be the perfect send off for the Going Merry, for her to rescue the crew at the cost of her "life". It'd also be the key to getting Usopp back!
-
…Too bad it got smashed to bits by the waves, eh.
-
sanji losses out to his sense of chivalry, which really hasn't been explained at all.
What the hell…
Why does a man not hitting a woman that he could easily harm/kill need an explanation? That's something every man SHOULD respect in real life.
-
ugh…somthing just seems odd with translating Nakama into 'mate' It just doesn't have the same ring to it.
i don't care what you think. if you don't like it, don't read my translations.
ooshi78
-
I like the mate, bitch!
Nice trans, man! GREATLY appreciated…I need to learn Japanese!
Who wants to bet me money that Nami's dial-enhanced Clima Tact absorbed the impact from that kick she blocked? -
What the hell…
Why does a man not hitting a woman that he could easily harm/kill need an explanation? That's something every man SHOULD respect in real life.
Agreed. Expect for little sisters of course, but then they rarly act like people let alone women
One thing I'm kinda disapointed about was from the spoiler it sounded like she would do a shigan using her whip. Instead she did a whip like shigan.
-
I think Califa abandoned the whip when she got her DF powers.
-
Nice chapter with a nice ending. Multiple Nami's:wub: oh now that Kalifa is fried can i have her?
-
You like them extra-crispy? Sorry pal. Califa's all mine.
-
I still think that it's the end of the fight. Think back to Zoro and Mr. 1: Zoro did not really do any damage to Mr. 1 until the Lion's Song is used, and that was a OHKO move. Did the battle continue next chapter where Zoro deals many steel-cutting blows on Mr. 1? No, it didn't. That single slash was the final and only hit Mr. 1 actually received. The same concept might be used here.
Actually, that's different. If you look at Zoro's fight's, most of his enemies actaully go down in one hit–the exceptions being Hachi, the cat-bro, and Zoro himself. Cutting seems to be a universal one-hit KO in One Piece. Also, you might count the times Zoro hit Mr.1 without cutting as metal punches or something.
Also, seeing Nami's new techs are great. She freakin' made herself invisible for a moment. And yes, this fights almost over. Either Calipha will fall over from the attack or fight a little more in the next chapter, like Franky and Fukorou's fight.
-
@Capt:
Agreed. Expect for little sisters of course, but then they rarly act like people let alone women
That was a joke, right?
Btw, great chapter and many thanks to BF and ooshi78.
Somehow, I believe this isn't the end of Calipha. And I really hope we see a Sanji vs Chopper.
-
-Calipha ain't getting no respect this chapter, it seems.
-I love Nami's illusions of herself (especially chibi-Nami)
-Mmmm, deep-fried Calipha.
-If Sanji does recover, and he does give the key to Zoro/Sogeking, then what I want to see most is them team up against Kaku and Jabura. -
Sanjis chivalry is preferental, if califa had been ugly he would have no problem destroying her. i was merely stating that sanji has no story to why he respects pretty women so much. and if some woman is trying to kill me, i'm not going to hit her simply because i respect her. if shes trying to kill me i'm going to make it so che cannot kill me or kill her myself. survival should outweigh morals.
-
ugh…somthing just seems odd with translating Nakama into 'mate' It just doesn't have the same ring to it.
I kinda like it, there might have been a better alternative but I personally loathe
when people leave a big fat "nakama" right in the middle of an English sentence. -
Theres absolutely no way Califas' done yet. The finishing move of an OP Fight always has considerably more OOOMPH! than the last frame here. Besides, Doublef…no, Paula took a shock much like this-in fact, seemingly even more painful- at the end of a chapter, and still got up.
Next chapter, Califa will do what Paula did the last few seconds she fought Nami: fight seriously-all the time. The one thing that annoys me about Namis' fights is that 50% of them is the enemy playing around, or doing nothing -even if they continually state "I'm an assasin. Im professional" and such.
-
Also like I keep saying this thing about chopper subconsciously solving problems seem evident (I thought this chapter it would be him taking the key) for instance throwing the bath of all things in kalifa's room down near sanji (could he have figured it out?). Really interesting nonetheless…it would also be really funny if he did what nami did to kumadori and stole her keys (even though I don't think you'd miss a giant reindeer frisking you.
-
I hope in the next chapter we see what happened to Sanji and the Califa fight would end in the middle of chapter 412.
And Sanji don't need to do anything. He can't fight Jyabura or Kaku, he can't give Zoro and Sogeking the key. If Oda added one more Enies Lobby CP9 agent back in chapter 377, then it would be good for him but Oda did not and he had Blueno get defeated by Luffy. Uless if Oda brings him back to fight Sanji
-
This is certainly an interesting turn of events; showing Nami's intelligence is far beyond of just navigation. I loved this chapter, Nami is really using the climatact well, and I hope the battle isn't over simply for some more Nami combat. I think this chapter showed that Nami has at least some of the Mugiwara super endurance. She did get Shiganed in the shoulder correct?
-
@joekido:

That's a little limited Joe. Why can't Sanji bring the key over? The soap'll get washed off him soon, and the stairs to that room seem to be intact. And isn't it natural for Sanji to go check up on the state of Nami? I guess Nami could bring the key over herself, but she just said she'll try to "stop" Chopper (how? I dunno). Sanji can run faster anyway.
And as for Sanji's fight, there is only one person left–Funkfried and Spandam. They might not be CP9, but it's a fight. Ussop seems like Jyabura's fight, there personalities even coincide, both kinda insecuure right now.
It seems odd to leave Sanji out of a fight in a major arc.
