@Print:
Add to the confusion that this is also pepper…
http://www.bigoven.com/uploads/pepper.jpg
…and yes, it's a very confusing state of affairs!
With all these kinds of peppers around, I don't know why any would need a lonely hearts club.
Thats actually the only thing I think about when hearing the word pepper, so when you guys were talking about eating pepper, I was like "They eat pepper? Weirdos!!":blink: I do love Paprika, though. Cucumbers are also pretty tasty. Hate carrots, though, yikes.
-
@NER:
How about you guys do something useful for a change and suggest some good music for me? :ninja:
Wikipedia is so wrong.
Pretty much this.
And cucumbers are also wrong. They don't deserve to be eaten. Celery too.
But yeah, I've literally never seen "chili" with a double L. That's extra wrong.
-
What the hell is capsicum BTW.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsicum
This portion is relevant to the discussion:
The name given to the Capsicum fruits varies between English-speaking countries.In Australia, New Zealand and India, heatless varieties are called "capsicums" while hot ones are called "chilli"/"chillies" (double L). Pepperoncini are also known as "sweet capsicum". The term "bell peppers" is almost never used, although C. annuum and other varieties which have a bell-shape and are fairly hot, are often called "bell chillies".
In Ireland and the United Kingdom, the heatless varieties are commonly known simply as "peppers" (or more specifically "green peppers", "red peppers", etc.) while the hot ones are "chilli"/"chillies" (double L) or "chilli peppers".
In the United States and Canada, the common heatless varieties are referred to as "bell peppers", "sweet peppers", "red/green/etc. peppers", or simply "peppers", while the hot varieties are collectively called "chile"/"chiles", "chili"/"chilies", or "chili"/"chile peppers" (one L only), "hot peppers", or named as a specific variety (e.g., banana pepper). -

I'm doing my best to bring Foolio round, slowly but surely.

It's so cold here. I can't remember the last time I was cold inside my own home. It's only 36 degrees out, but that's like icy death for my Mexican-ness.
-
I have the thermostat of my room set at about 15C. Pretty chilly in here too, although I'm kind of enjoying it. My fingers aren't moving properly because they're so stiff, but who cares. At least I sleep well.
-
It's definitely been perfect weather for hot food and warm blankets lately. It's kinda nice in that sense. :)
-
I'm actually starting to miss the Belgian winter. It hasn't rained here in like a month and it's driving me crazy?

I'm back from International Meeting of librarians….It was great, I can´t wait for the next one.
The last day was better than the first...
The portugese and the japanease had a similiar lecture, both talked about how to incentived children to read (something like - to give each kid they own "soul mate" book). A very unrealistic speech, far from being a lie.
The American from the other day, came back to give another lecture and this time, she shut up everyone who was rude to her the other day.
Basically she said that "if librarians maintain the thought that libraries are places just for books, libraries will be abandoned, we have to explore other areas of information, to become a trans-literate librarian". It was a huge nudge in an open wound, all who were cursing her (the other day and now) fell silent and everyone just left silent and looking at each other.
Huun, before that, we had some presentation of a few NGOs across Brazil. The one I like the most was one that made birthdays parties for kids in local libraries.
In the end, a guy was selling books about librarianship, and I managed to get a 20% off of a book about AACR2 (something I use in my job).
Now I´m back home, already downloaded MGQ3 (NSFW) and already beat it...What a great game.

I think I'll start wearing blanket wherever I go. People will start to call me Captain Blanket, and thus I will become new superhero, serving the universe with power of warmth and homeliness.
(I've even made picture) -

actually, I'm pretty sure I once used this picture as an avatar as well, but with Hugh Laurie's face photoshopped over it. Or maybe I used a picture which had Mother Gothel in the background too, and put his face over hers instead.

You're somehow making librarians seem like the most exciting job in the world. :D

That's good to hear. Glad you had a wonderful time. :happy:

Just got home from my academy's family story night event, so many people… So tired I'm bedridden right now.
It was an overall huge success but what really bothered me is that last month all the kids sat quietly without prompting to watch a movie during lecture. This time they went NUTS during the movie. One of the parents swooped in like a boss and started entertaining the kids using only a book and a roll of paper towels. She's my hero.

Well, it looks like that delay I had on that temp job might not be as bad as I thought. It looks like I can start this Wednesday, instead of next Monday. So that's good.
Also, I came back from my first laser light show at the local planetarium tonight; it was for The Beatles. It was total sensory overload…which is why I thought it was pretty. Surprisingly, no psychedelic drugs were necessary. I'm gonna see if I can catch one of their many Pink Floyd shows in the coming months.

Do one of you know where does the expression "shit is gonna hit the fan" comes from? I really can't see how someone comes up with such an expression.

If shit hits the fan, then shit gets all over the room and everyone in it.

Today I am happy. Not just on a good mood but happy deep inside. And warm too. I feel like I am whole. And I feel like that thanks to my friend. I love this day~

Sniff, my first wisdom tooth is coming in and has only partially pierced through the gum thus far. I was seriously hoping I wouldn't have any problems with them at all, but now I'm not so sure about that anymore. ;_;

If you buy chlorhexidine and wash your mouth with it like 5 times a day it will ease the pain

Tonight is the annual Christmas party for work…..er, for the golf course job that ended back in October. Good chance I'll get a little bonus for my hard work this year.
@No:
Best of luck with all of that then :O
Thanks!
has no idea what geoscience even really is
feels like Cletus from the SimpsonsAwww….don't feel so down.
@Print:
Best of luck, Meta. You do seem to have a lot of varied classes!
I do, don't I? The perks (or not?) of not formally being in a major yet. Thanks, though!
Geoscience rocks.
see what you did thar :ninja:

Oh boy finals crunch time. One week to get 2 major projects done and make up a bunch of labs and no one in my groups are responding.
God dammit.
-
Had an amazing weekend in Helsinki with my best friends. I haven't laughed this hard & this frequently in a loooong time. Or gotten my ass kicked in fighting/platform games. Yay!
-
Eh, today was decent enough. Though trying to run errands was a bitch, as the stores were so crowded…
-
Boring day..I went to the market to buy the preparations for supper.
The whole store was crowded and everything was expensive … I'll have a lot of work to prepare this supper, especially alone.
-
Have my first final tomorrow. Didn't study too much, but I'm not really worried since I'm the type who doesn't need to study much to do well, even in college
-
…this isn't really something that happened today but it's been eating away at me for a while and I had to let it out somewhere...
I'm a university student studying architecture, and for the Design subject, we are divided into groups headed by a lecturer to guide us in our projects.
I look up to my lecturer immensely, because he is very knowledgeable on the subject and is constantly thinking of the users when contemplating a building design.
He's friendly and humble. He's also involved in various projects for building schools or other facilities in Gaza to aid the citizens, which I think is pretty good actually.
And then last week, he posts on his Facebook timeline that Hamas leader Khaled Mashal has safely landed in our country.
He was receptive and supportive of his arrival.
...and I started feeling confused. I don't like Hamas at all. But the lecturer whom I look up to is supportive of them.
It feels like I'm supposed to stop liking my lecturer but I can't bring myself to do so. I still look up to him. But I still disagree with his support for Hamas.
It's conflicting. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel right now. It's been bugging me to this very day.
I just needed some place where I can express this anonymously. I'm not interested in souring any current relationships with something like politics right now. -
So guys.
I listened to Dark Side of the Moon. High.
Yeah.

Having to inform pretty much all the English students about course registrations because our student organization is worthless and does not do their job like they're supposed to. Bunch of amateurs. :|
The registration has been open for a week and will only last for four more days and we haven't received a single notice from anyone? Fire yourselves, please. This is unacceptable.

Thankfully, things have been sorted after some bravery on checking messages, sending a message to see if she's alive, and a hell of a lot of motivational talking ; 3 ;
turns out she got major depressed cause she thought everyone had left her and that she was 100% alone…
...so now I'm basically her one and only life line. Big responsibility I guess yeah... but oddly I feel... happy. I don't know why. I feel happy that someone's reason for staying alive is me... ; 3 ;
I'm a numpty I guess but I guess that's what makes me me.
On another note I had a random burst of positivity last night and a very random burst of positivity this morning (until I gagged brushing my teeth).
It's weird but I'm trying to be more positive, y'know? Even if it's just tiny little things like trying to compel myself to love the body I'm in (even if I have gone from 9 stone in June to almost 12 stone now AHAHA fuck I guess that's what I get for not exercising butyh), trying to be more positive and whatnot in general, etc~ -
I can find Christmas music annoying when it plays constantly in shops around this time of year, but some of the choices just feel bizarre. Fair enough having Noddy Holder of Slade shouting "It's Christmaaaaaaaaaaas!" out over the aisles, but while picking up frozen pizza from Sainsbury's the other day, there was a choral version of "O Holy Night", and it just felt utterly incongruous to be scanning barcodes on tins of chopped tomatoes as a rousing chorus with orchestral backing intones us to "full on your knees" and "hear the angel's voices". All I could hear were the self-service checkouts telling me to take my items.
Then there was Tesco today playing 'The Coventry Carol'. Do they not even bother to listen to what that's about? Songs about the massacre of infants are not really an appropriate soundtrack to grabbing tins of pitted olives to restock your cupboards.
Quite frankly, I'd rather have Paul McCartney's "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime". And that's saying a lot.

Anyone else in California freezing their ass off?
How cold is it there at the moment? I think I saw things in the Mid West drop down to -20'C and below, which is just…what.

Had to wrestle with mother to watch the last ten minutes of Doctor Who undubbed today (since my TV can't change the language). She wanted to watch the 2506th episode of her soap opera (not a joke by the way, that's the episode number) on the big television instead of watching the first seven minutes on a smaller screen, because she "can't see".
Like that's stopped her the many many times when she was sitting in the kitchen and just listening to the sound instead of watching the bloody big TV anyway.
-
Me and mom got my big sister a golden iPhone for her birthday, which is going to be tomorrow.
Yup, thats the highlight of my day.

I don't have running water in home now. Let's rejoice imperfection of the world. I lost the urge to do anything today any more since I learnt the's no water. So lazy.

Round here when that happens they send you free water in motorised cisterns.

yes, there's a cistern, so it's not as there's no water at all

Today was somewhat uneventful, and went by kinda quick. Went to the orthodontist to have spacers put in between my back molars, since I'll be getting braces (again…) next week or so… My teeth are a little sore right now, but not compared to what the braces will be like. Autsch!
-
Well, this day is….something. I managed to pick up more manga (Barnes n Noble near my school, yes please), and I got a freaking 100 on my math test.
Why don't I sound more energetic?
Blame a little snafu with my financial aid, partially because it was my fault. Asked for a little more loan money, thinking I would need it, but it turns out I was going to receive more financial aid than I realized. So I filled out a form to cancel out that extra request.....and it cancelled a good chunk of my loan money. And while I technically could pay the difference out of pocket, my bank account is definiteltly not big enough to handle tuition for 4 years. I'd go broke in a year and a half.
So I filed another request to put things back to their normal arrangement. The girl at the counter was very helpful and kind, so I guess I'm not too worried. But me and school payments don't exactly have a good history together, if one recounts my failed exploit last year.
Fingers crossed/

Oh, you gotta get braces? I've pretty much dodged that bullet over the years (because of cost to my parents)…..I've always hated the idea.

Two finals down, two more to go tomorrow. I'm exhausted but have to wait at school until six thirty to turn in my essays
-
Ohh, these vile spacers… I almost forgot how painful these things were the first time around. Dinner for me was a soft slice of bread covered in ketchup, since my dad wouldn't let me cook up a can of sauerkraut; he doesn't like the smell... :I

Did they ever tell you WHY you need them again, and for so long? Sounds like they messed up the first time, or didn't wait for your teeth to fully grow in, or something… I had braces for 2 years so I feel your pain but ugh who wants to do it twice!?
