Shueisha announced some weeks ago that One Piece Ten will go to Taiwan, so I suppose it will go to New York too (that poster is for Taiwan and New York).
Maybe Greg, CCC or Aohige can translate the scan ^^

That certainly seems to be the case. And if it is indeed like that, I sure hope this is the beginning of more visits around the world. I know I'd love for it to come to Spain as well…

oh wow this is awesome greg ccc or aohige we need you <3
That'd be awesome, except I live nowhere near New York. Now if they went to Chicago on the other hand (when I'm on break from college as well)

I'm in Australia and I'm stoked by this. Its just so cool!
Okay, so nothing is actually "coming" to NY.
It's just the finale to the J47 newspaper campaign. The New York Times is going to have a One Piece ad just like each of the 47 prefectures already have. Same with the Chuugoku Jihou in Taiwan. Also, final image might not be the one shown there, as it's a work in progress.
But it's still pretty significant when you think about it. Oda (presumably) chose to have the main character not be featured in a Japanese prefecture, but rather in foreign papers. And you don't get any classier than the NYT. That's some real global outreach, right there.
Yeah, I had thought that might be the case. Still really cool
One Piece will go to New York!!!
Looks like i'm going to New York city even if its 6 hours away from me.
I's too bad they don't say anything about the exhibition, but still, it will be really cool to have a new Luffy drawing by Oda in The New York Times, no less!
It's so awesome to see how this great series grows more and more popular as time passes…
I just noticed the Viz Media logo, so it seems they have a role in all of this
Thanks, this is one hell of a landmark campaign. Maybe One Piece can finally get some good attention here, it's always been ignored in favor of series like Naruto. (bleh)

Does it provide a date as to when it will appear in The New York Times?
This is some really incredible news.

There's no explicit date written anywhere on there, but I assume it'll be pretty soon given that it's meant to be the "finale" of the newspaper campaign.

It's true that Luffy isn't featured in a Japanese prefecture, he is rather representing Japan as a whole:
Looks pretty awesome, but it would be nice if anyone could translate all the speech bubbles, they seem to be very interesting.
Also lol @ Marco and pineapples :D

Those… look really fake. Okinawa and Kagoshima were already posted on the last page, the text is laid out terribly in the speech bubbles, and come on- look at that "Don" in the Luffy one.
"Are there real adventures in this country?"
…Probably.
I guess I have to start buying the physical Times instead of just reading it online until the day it comes out.
300 million eh?
That's great to hear! :)
Thank you redon! I hope it's okay if I tweet this out with your scans?
Hey! I live in New York. This is pretty neat, I had no idea this would happen. What a pleasant surprise.
That's fantastic! Even bigger than I imagined. And an original color from Oda to boot! I wonder if he attempted to channel Goku in that unintentionally.
is that in tomorrows paper or todays? or later
"Are there real adventures in this country?"

Depends on which part of the U.S. you're in. lol
I dont think you guys understand the magnitude of being featured in New York Times….The magnitude....
Thats culture breaking right there. One Piece just broke a MAJOR barrier for ANY manga ever.
Yeah, I don't think any other manga, even Dragon Ball or Naruto, have had a special advertisement in a major newspaper.
I don't think the speech given by each character was done by oda
Despite that, i'd love to hear what they have to say!!
Poster in New York Times today, I want that newspaper
I really (really) urge fans to pick up extra copies of NYT for fans around the world whom they haven't even met yet. It's highly HIGHLY sought after in Japan and it would be an amazing way to reach out to fans.
In other words, we should buy a lot of NYT and then sell them for an outrageous price online. Gotcha, Greg! off to buy 'em all

Yup, today, Nov. 21st on page A15
Just found it as you were posting :P
It's A19 in mine, though… (?)
Anyway, looks great. Here's the text at the bottom:
One Piece is an epic adventure featuring "Straw Hat" Luffy, captain of a band of pirates. It recounts his exploits all over the world in search of the treasure known as "One Piece" together with his companions whom Luffy meets on his adventures. The story, its characters, and its perspective have enchanted not only children but also men and women of all ages. With over 300 million volumes of the series sold in Japan since its first release 16 years ago, One Piece has set an unbelievable record among Japanese comics currently in the market. The series' popularity overseas has steadily increased as well, and to date, One Piece has been published in over 25 countries.
I seriously don´t understand why different sources state different things regarding the 300 million, namely either that it is "sold" or "copies printed". Since this should be an official source and CCC translated it, i tend to believe that it is "sold" but also seen quote believable sources saying "printed"
Got my copy!
This is truly a historic moment for the fandom.

yup i hope one piece explodes in popularity around the whole world.
If someone could scan the page… That would make my day.

Technically, from the standpoint of shueisha, there is no difference. All the copies they printed are sold to retailers so ultimately there check is the same regardless of who buys it afterwards

That is correct of course but for us, it is obviously a difference, when like 20 million copies are still on the bookshelves

Not really, because those are going to sell. They expect it and so do the retailers. (And the current leftovers wouldn't be that high, since they reprint only when things sell out. It'd be closer to 5 mill unsold, at worst.)
Besides, there's an extra 45 million sold through the rest of the world, so no matter how you count it, its past the 300 mill mark.
