"Hunger Space"? I don't like how this sounds shudders
Gotta love the people talking about physics when they don't know anything about them. It's rather hilarious how he talks about electromagnetism and electrons on your feet as if it made any sense.
Fiction is not real, news at 11. Seriously, Toriko tries to stay faithful to real life physics with stuff like cryptobiosis, but with real life physics not even Hajime no Ippo would be possible. Even if this is pseudoscience it's at least somewhat believable.

The author's the one that brought up the pseudoscience in the first place. Trying to tie the move to "real world" physics does allow for some accountability and criticism if it doesn't add up.
I honestly don't care for the credibility of the science in this chapter, this manga has always been pretty mindless in its entertainment. Yes the manga brings up the science itself so can easily be criticised if it makes no sense, but it can equally be taken just as Shima's attempt to diversify powers. And I'm sure the basic idea of the square root law is legitimate, it's just how Shima is applying it to Ichiryuu.
I do, however, dislike the haxness of the ability.
! Organ failure? Practically any physical ability your body can get? Making your enemy unable to hit you? Changing even the shape of your surroundings (though I admit, the liquidefying ground is pretty cool.)

! Well, wasn't he the former top in the world? This could easily be made possible with this kind of power.

! It's not the plausibility of Ichiryuu being that strong, it's the fact that having an ability without clear cut boundaries, that has no definition on how to avoid or block, and is seemingly controlled simply through the mind instead of physical actions meaning there's no real knowledge of how it's supposed to work, is annoying to read for me. it's like Law's or Jora's abilities in One Piece.

If you think about the fact that Ichiryuu has been alive for possible 200+ years it kind of makes sense that he would have a ridiculous ability like this. And you can't forget that he was the disciple of Acacia.

! Well, this is something like Setsuno pressure power. How could she be able to control the pressure around her? This is something, I think for sure, connected with Gourmet Cells. We don't know how they work for real. Midora's power seems much aggressive and dangerous though.
I wonder what it's going to be like playing as Ichiryu in Toriko fighting videogames now

The chopsticks seem like they will be awesome. I like those way more then his minority world ability.

How to avoid it? Easy. Stay surrounded by civilians, or even just rare ingredients. Obviously the sphere of influence for it has to be limited, too, or Ichiryuu would risk killing people/ingredients with it.
Ok yeah, my interpretation was clearly dead wrong, Ichiryuu's power makes no sense

It's not really that complicated. It's applying a theory that 10% of particles in an object do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to. It's completely implausible but it's not hard to explain.

All your controls are reversed.
And your moves will randomly miss, making connecting combos impossible.

Also, your jumps don't work, and you lose health rapidly for no reason.
Also, in terms of science, why would it matter if the liver stops glycogen production. When you're active, you'd want glycogen to be metabolized and broken down into Glucose-1-Phosphate, not synthesized. This totally is the key thing that throws me out of the explanation and not the rest of the statistical mumbo jumbo!
Guys, stop this catgirls killing! It's a damn manga, with its physics law, based on our world's but their definetly its physical law! Come on!
In ONE PIECE it would have never been possible for Luffy's rubber to stand to Enel's high voltages, nor to endure the gold melting temperature.
Ichiyuu: I activate my zone! I am invincible in this zone!

Feels like Jojo Stardust Crusaders' ending.

what? how can you compared this with JJBA? this is not even a fight.. this is technically and totally like you said,
"Ichiyuu: I activate my zone! I am invincible in this zone!
Midora: I activate my zone! I am invincible in this zone!"
and nothing more.. this is garbage.
Ichiyuu: I activate my zone! I am invincible in this zone!

Usually for this exchange of words Ichiryuu should be the evil guy while Midora the good one.

We don't even know how this kind of power really works, how can you already tell this is garbage?
More like hungry plot armor.
I think too many people browsing this section spend wayyy too much time in the naruto/bleach thread.
Magi and Toriko tend to get bashed…
Rather than the garbage science, I'm more bothered by how flat and dull this fight is.
"I activate my special move!"
Ichiruyu kicks Midora's ass for a chapter.
"Now I activate my special move!"
Midora does the same.
Boring.

i don't mean the power itself but the fight.. pretty much like TLC said.. its freaking dull.. i don't care about the fake or pseudo science at all..
Medaka box full with something like that even thought they were bad and lack story but at least it has something that draws the readers into the fight whether some kind of games that readers can play along even if it just basically a rock paper scissor type of battle.. character A have some kind of power, character B try to understand it, understand it and its weakness and pull one attack/counter based on the finding and an opportunity, character B succeed.
but this fight, it has nothing.. and much worse, Shima already introduced so much battle/power systems into Toriko.. Toriko has more power systems than any currently running battle shounen manga, but like always they were all almost completely irrelevant and forgotten. now most of the "fight" were all narrative that explain an old or new character's new (newly introduce) power.. this like watching kindergarten puppet show instead off characters that behave and fighting like human being..

That would be my criticism of the series as well. It's amusing, sure, but engrossing? Hardly. The characters don't really have much humanity
Why can't we have another Melk II instead of all this bullshit fighting
Ehat I'm most surprised about is that they know each other for more than 500 years, yet dont seem to know each others powers. Did they change over the years?

and people always making fun of Ichigo and how "cardboard" he is or basically most if not all characters in Bleach post Arrancar arc..

Well, if the first fight between those two happened 500 years ago and Ichiryuu was at his best like he's now, that would mean that he used Minority World against Midora long ago and won with it, but he didn't kill his "little brother" maybe because he thought Midora wouldn't be a real threat anymore. The they didn't meet until their "reunion" at Bishokukai HQ and now they're fighting again. In the last 500 years Midora's grew stronger and stronger so now he could have developed this kind of power, Hungry Space, and Ichiryuu could not know it.
500 years is a freaking long period, so Midora could have grown too much confident and understimated Ichiryuu's Minority World. But now he has the upper hand.
I can't see all these things as problems.
As someone who's been in the minority (pun not intended) about really liking the prior arc I'm rather curious on the details of how this fight ends since, along with the massive events of the last arc, whether Ichiryuu is simply defeated, dies, or a possible other outcome could radically change how the Toriko world would continue to function.
Granted if Shima actually shows how the significant the extent the effects of the last arc are is still up in the air for now.

To be fair how and why abilities can manifest through Gourmet Cells has always been nebulous at best. Ichiryuu being able to create bizarro world physics isn't THAT much more crazy compared to being able to rapidly change air pressure at will, being able to "eat" things with one's hair, being able to hit the ground so hard that earth stops rotating momentarily, creating physical manifestations of a fork and knife that can be used both offensively and defensively, being able to create supersonic waves that simultaneously have a physical form that can be used defensively, etc. we've just been inundated because of its confusing explanation. So it's not like it contradicts anything within the context of the series because Gourmet Cells could theoretically do anything if only because we don't know their limits.
Jarmenkell made a JJBA comparison a bit above and while I don't think it's the one he/she was trying to make I'd say this ability, at least to me, is heavily reminiscent of King Crimson: the ability theoretically works but its explanation throws people off.
I dont like how it seems that this fight will again last for some time. We already had the last dozens of chapters with nothing else but figthing and it becomes monotone.
It probably would have worked better if the previous arc were completely devoted to the cooking festival and would only end/get disrupted by the meteor spice and now the Ichiryu-Midora battle.
And the large all-out clash with the bishokukai should have happened later with the revelation about NEO and Joah as grand finale
Yes, more blood!
Too bad it looks more like paint than blood. Thanks Galaxy 9000.

When is Magi bashed? It's latest arc has had some criticism, but it's rarely bashed.

Ha, I thought the same. It's better then nothing though, I guess.

i was talking about the chapter. lol
sorry.
This really is not the epic showdown I was expecting
it's like it's trying to be clever like JJBA but failing really bad
Just wanted to make a little clarification about Midora's word in chapter 245.
On page 9 he apparently said "(And…) Now, nothing will get in my way..." but the correct translation should be "(Not to mention...) ...this obstacle at hand."
The one that was talking was Frohze and not Midora, it's not 100% sure that Ichiryuu lost or died.
How could that be Frohze? After that words Starjun said to himself "That is Midora-sama" so it was Midora, wasn't he?
How can anyone think it was Midora who said that ? Staar was obviously refering to the thunder crakcing.

What's the meaning of those words if Joa/Frohze said them? Are Joa/Frohze and Midora connected somohow? The first is NEO "boss", the second is Bishokukai Boss, they have different goals and the ones similar are something to fight against each other.

Everyone's goal in the Torikoverse is Acacia's full course menu and ultimately GOD for whatever reason. But still if we take Joa's words and what happened, he was talking about Ichiryuu since Midora's attack was coming, that scene with Mansam and Jirou clearly stating that Ichiryuu lost.
Even though that doesn't mean the Bishokukai and NEO have different goals, remember that the Bishokukai's main goal is to monopolize all the food and that can only be accomplished by obtaining GOD.

Ok, but…stating that Ichiryuu could have been the main obstacle for NEO, with his loss to Midora, Joa/Frohze has an even stronger enemy to fight against because Bishokukai and NEO are enemies (Starjun was ready to fight against Joa). So what's the meaning of those words if Joa said them? It makes no sense. Further the situation wasn't that for Joa to say those words. He/she had just stated that he/she couldn't wound Starjun with ease as his was then and with Jirou and Setsuno around. How could someone in a clear disadvantage say such words?

IGO vs Bishokukai vs NEO, the three of them are enemies to another, no alliances, nothing.
Ichiryuu is known as the strongest or of the 3 strongest but it doesn't matter, first disciple = strongest until proven otherwise (by this fight), so he's the biggest obstacle to Joa's ambitions.
And in the Fourbeast fight Ichiryuu was talking about Joa in his video message, so he might know something about him that others don't which makes him a dangerous enemy that has to get ridden of.
Also Joa was still talking (blabla and now, nothing will get in my way) so it perfectly makes sense since he already knew that the fight was going on.
But hey, let's suppose it was Midora. He's in the GW having a deadly fight in which he made a hole in his chest. How can his voice be heard by people in the Human world ? There must be hundreds of thousands of Kilometers since the Human world is already huge.
What is he ? Galactus ?

This really clears things up a lot, thanks! It's silly to think that we would hear Midora all the way from Gourmet World.
