Sorry, I was posting in the Toonami thread, haha. I found this to be a great introduction, introduced a lot of elements such as the New Era where only hardened pirates survive, some cruelty (Bellamy vs Sarquiss), how weird the islands in One Piece can be, some nice crew dynamics. I'm reading the live tweets right now about it, they're interesting.
"Davy Back Arc" Toonami Talkback
-
-
Highly disappointed that even the preview couldn't make it in. No Mirai Koukai, either.
But at least it's back on TV, with no episode edits.
-
Well that was my first episode of #onepiece I've ever seen. I laughed so i think ill watch it now. Thanks Toonami! @blumspew @ToonamiNews
Stuff like this is what it's all about.
-
Oh? I'd like to know why it is goofy to you.
Voice actors were corny, wrong arc to start off with to grab attention because it is a goofy boring arc, Stupid looking characters ect.
-
Stuff like this is what it's all about.
Feels good to read that. Especially when I've seen other newcomers cry about how it doesn't make sense.
-
Wait…did they really cut out the eyecatchers?

All I have to say is that I agree with the wrong arc bit.
@Galaxy:
Yep. They weren't there.
Mostly because of those long ass commercials. :getlost:
-
This thread got more talkback then the 596 thread, so these are definitely viable to do weekly.
-
Glad to see One Piece trending. Let's hope it continues.
I admit I'm a bit worried about the ridiculousness of this particular island having a negative impact on newcomers, but let's give it some time.
-
I feel the comedy at the beginning of this arc will keep people interested, and by the time we get to the Groggy Ring, people will be hooked for good. Because seriously, during that portion, if it's not being laugh-out-loud hilarious, it's being damn right brutal and awesome at points. Here's hoping for a nice and long, successful run for One Piece. ^^
-
I dont use Tweeter all that much but does IGPX and Soul Eater and Toonami are trending topics every week or was it because of One Piece's boost?
-
I'm remaining very cautiously optimistic. Say there's a door that separates optimism and pessimism. I have my toe just slightly in the door of optimism. Hope they skip the Foxy memory filler thing. Once we're sailing around in the canals of Water 7… THAT'S when I'll throw my hands up with joy and party all night.
-
Okay, now let's do this every week until September when Aokiji arrives.
-
Who had the Idea to start One Piece at Episode 207? Seriously, Jaya, or the beginning of the series, were the better choices. Now the newcomer start with 4 canon episodes, then 4 FILLER!!! episodes, then 3 canon and then this lame lost memory filler crap. Who does that?
-
I remember when it aired on Toonami before. Sometimes the eye catchers were included, other times they weren't. Sometimes an eye catcher strangely made it in while the first or second one didn't. Just depends how much time those commercials demand. It's not really a big deal. Same with the OP/ED edits. It'd be nice if they didn't cut them, but whatever. We've got One Piece on Cartoon Network totally uncut now. Zoro, cigarette, everything. Who would have ever thought we'd see the day?

So, tell me what life's like under a rock, good sir.

Satan did and this is your own personal hell. This is all just foreplay before the anal torture begins.
-

I can't follow, good sir. It's just a dumb move for me to start at 207.

Yup, that's why i think it's not a good start. The Newcomers have to go to that hell, too, but unlike them, i know One Piece…they don't and shit on it.

I watched the episode tonight with a friend who's never really watched One Piece, and he said he fell in love with the show instantly. He thought the sea-monkeys were really funny. I know not everyone will take to the show that well, but it gives me hope anyway.
The reason for them starting at episode 207 is covered in this interview. http://shonenjump.viz.com/node/1599
They basically wanted to air the 16:9 HD episodes, while showing episodes that no one has seen on TV in any shape or form–including the 4K!Ds dub. They also wanted to air newer episodes that One Piece fans wouldn't be as bored with--seeing as how the other episodes have been on DVD for years at this point. Also, if One Piece is successful on Toonami, and stays for the long haul, then there's a chance the TV broadcasts will eventually go past where the DVDs are. One day we might be watching never-before-seen FUNi dubbed One Piece on TV, before they come out on DVD, the way it's supposed to be. If they start from the beginning or earlier then that will never happen.
-
Just saw the HD east coast feed I recorded. The open/ending cuts didn't bug me too much, but it was strange to hear the song and I wished they had more of the opening action scenes. I think I missed the eye catchers the most though. I knew the Doflamingo scene would entice new viewers, but it was spot on with the action at the right time. HD was great. I was pumped the whole episode. Everything was just as exciting as I hoped.
Now to watch the west coast feed at 1:00 A.M. Double Mint One Piece, Double the fun. :D

Thing is if they're gonna start airing material before it even comes out on DVD they'd have to really slow the release of the dub down, the DVDs would have to take a long a break at one point.
Also I call BS on most fans not starting at episode one.
-
Odd…I went back to my DVR recording and watched the ending credits carefully. They had to type up new credits to fit the shortened closing sequence.
Get this -- the closing song was listed as Mirai Koukai by Tackey & Tsubasa.

Oh yeah I heard about that, yeah by this point in show they were on that ending. But the band won't let them use it so Funi has to use Eternal Pose early. I'm guessing the credits were just an oversight on Funi's part.
-
I've been gone for a LONG time here on AP Forums, but damnit I'm back now because One Piece is back where it belongs at last!!
Now, let's keep the party going forever!!
Oh, one more thing:
Welcome back Luffy. :D -
We need to keep trending it every saturday.
We can do this shit guys :)
-
After scrolling through the Toonami thread and its whining, I'm ever more grateful that these topics exist.
-
I always find it funny when people who criticize the dub voices for being "annoying" (luffy, ussop, chopper etc..), ignore the fact their japanese voices are just as annoying, Especially when in comes to Luffy :getlost:.
And I hate that they like to pull out the "DBZ voices" card as a negative to the dub :getlost:.
-
The DBZ as a negative luckily doesn't effect me as I've never seen DBZ so to me all the voices sound great and fit. Also some of the people who criticize it I've seriously seen comments like dubs are for kids and subs are for mature adults lol

I was posting in the One Piece topic as my other user name, GoldenUmi. Honestly, the overall reaction to One Piece in the actual episode discussion thread was positive and supportive. There were just a few idiots here and there that we had to ignore.
Though I'm still a bit wary, I have a feeling that the dub will do well. People just need to get used to it. The benefit of One Piece being before Soul Eater is that anyone who likes Soul Eater may catch the end of a One Piece episode, or anyone watching Naruto might have their TV on and will catch the start of One Piece. That helps with the exposure factor a lot. It's how I ended up liking Boondocks as I was waiting for Bleach at midnight.
So I don't really use Twitter too much. How do you trend a topic? Just repeatedly tweet and retweet? I may join in next week to help out. I do have a Twitter account, I just don't use it much.
-
Just use the hashtags #onepiece and #toonami.
-
I'm glad we got positive responses to the episode. Although I noticed the real difference in quality between One Piece's animation and Soul Eater's (I've never watched Soul Eater before, so I was surprised). God I hate Toei lol.
-
Soul Eater is a short, 50 episode show whose production was pre-planned and budgeted. Those shows will always have better animation than long-running Shonen series where they make the episodes as they go.
-
Comparing the animation of a 200+ episode series that just converted to HD, to a 51-episode anime…. :swanson:
-
my friends came over to watch ONE PIECE on cartoony network finally we had fun times and popcorn. during commercial break wae watched the weather channel ebcause it HAS ALL THE TORNADO WATCHES AND WARNINGS
-
Sonny Strait's Ussop is awesome. It doesn't even sound like Krillin anymore.
EDIT: I posted this in the wrong thread, lol.
-
How do we find out the ratings? And how did the twitter thing do?

I will post ratings when I find them/when they come out! They usually come out Tuesdays I think.

I recommend Soul Eater to anyone. It's a really fun series. I'd say I like it as much as One Piece despite it being shorter (manga included).
-
Just watched my DVR recording of it last night. Had to watch 206 in a not so legal way first. :ninja: It's like a dream having my favorite three shows (One Piece, Eureka 7, and Naruto in that order) all on Toonami at once. And I'm rather enjoying Soul Eater as well.
I agree that the opening was edited kind of wonkily, but the ending was fine I thought. I'd have liked to keep the eyecatches but Toonami itself kind of fulfills their purpose so I'm not surprised they cut those out.
As for the episode itself: amazing. I forgot just how VIBRANT, CRISP, AND BEAUTIFUL this show used to be. Honestly, I think it's the best-looking show on Toonami right now. It makes me weep knowing what a sloppy, pastel-colored mess it will degenerate into. Also, tan Robin with a properly drawn face! Oh how I missed you! I don't care if it was a deviation from the manga. She looks so, so much better this way.
And for those dissing on the Foxy arc, why? It's a great cluster of comedy that had me in stitches the first time around. If you would have preferred another beginning point, that's fine, but this was by no means a "bad" decision. The filler matches don't even feel like filler either…
Greatly looking forward to finally seeing this arc and what lies beyond dubbed.

Yep, One Piece beat out Bleach and Naruto!
-
To be honest I expected a bit more.. At least a million (past weeks BLEACH and Naruto's ratings were in the million IIRC) but 5,000 shy of its its still very good.

It was a off week for the whole block with the final of Saturday Night Live airing. Next week should give us a better indication of things.

Memorial Day Weekend… I have my doubts.
-
Great to see One Piece back on American TV. Luffy and Choppers voice made me want to kill myself, but I'll still tune in weekly just to support it.

You dont even have to do that (unless you are a Nielsen Family which means you MUST watch), Just Twit #OnePiece and everything will be right in the world.
-
Is that a high for Soul Eater? At the very least it's beating Naruto and Bleach now.
