I watched Film Z a month or so ago. It was kinda meh, decent. Better story than Strong World though, but it didn't feel like two years extra production really did anything

…Even though I have no BluRay player here in Japan at the moment and so I can't actually watch it… BUT I DO HAVE IT NOW!!!So, uh… about Fanservice Island, is there anything to that special besides fanservice? Because as it is, I'm not even seeing much of a point in watching it at all because 1: I dislike fanservicey stuff in general, and even if that wasn't the case, 2: I think the female character-designs in One Piece are kind of crap.

Okay watched it and am left wondering what the heck any of this has to do with Film Z. Is there a namedrop I missed since there seems to be no connection whatsoever outside of their clothes.
The first half has some of the most aggressive fanservice yet seen in the franchise. Yoshikazu Tomita's team really seemed to punch it up to a new level. Easily the most infamous part of this special.
The second half is overall much better in terms of being more in the One Piece vein. "Glorious Island" seems to be their fantasy of the Strawhats' dream of island edible delights. Complete fluff, but it had some funny bits. Brook's predictable but nonetheless humorous rock ballad to panties out of the blue was a strange highlight. Though in retrospect, a scene like that being the highlight doesn't speak all that highly of the special as a whole.
Even taking into account slaying of a poor seahorse who wandered into the wrong neighborhood for Luffy to show off some action for the sake of it, the whole thing would be pretty innocuous if not for the extreme fanservice. Those who'd prefer not to see much of it would be better off skipping to the second half.
