My own theory. Which explains why he is called a "cannibal"
During the fights, someone gets thrown hard, and ends up hitting Bartolomeo by accident.
The guy gets up, and in a panic, runs from him.
Bartolomeo stands up a bit angered, and touches him, turning him literally into some kind of food.
The audience is horrified, and even Luffy responds to this saying something like "Touch him and you turn into food…..How can anybody even beat this guy then....that's not fair...."
Bartolomeo sits back down and says "now that that's out of the way, please continue beating each other up. Hehahaha" -

No he didn't….all he said is that he gets under people's skin or creeps them out. That doesn't explain why he is called a cannibal.

Yeah, Evo beat me to it. This isn't even something that's even the slightest bit vague or subtle; it quite literally comes directly out and says that it's the reasoning behind his title. Whether you like it, or think it's a good explanation or not, is a separate matter, but an explanation it is.

It is a stupid explanation tho. I would have been fine with tormenter or something like that. That is the worst reason to call somebody a cannibal. Hannibal Lecter wouldn't approve :sad:

It's Japanese reasoning and…wording. Like Romance Dawn etc. It is a piece of Japanese literature afterall.

Which is a perfectly valid opinion to have. Nobody has ever said everyone has to approve completely of every aspect of the story, after all, and of course personal tastes differ from reader to reader. It's just that that is, as I said, an entirely separate matter. The question at hand was whether it was an explanation, and the answer to that is that it is, and the story very clearly presents it as such.
Honestly, it would be one thing if the latter half of what Evo quoted were not there, and the line had simply ended at "It's like he's eating away at them". Mind you, that particular phrasing still would have made it pretty clear that it was intended as the explanation for his nickname, but I could imagine missing out on that subtext, or even disagreeing that it was there at all. However, given that the line does, in fact, go on to spell out quite clearly that that is the reasoning for him being called 'Cannibal', such benefit of the doubt is no longer possible. With that as it is, trying to say that the matter hasn't been explained is nothing more than rejecting what has been presented by the manga in order to substitute one's own fan fiction in its place, which is quite frankly the worst kind of 'speculation' I can imagine.

Its an expression. Its like if someone translated "My boss is such a hard-ass" literally into another language–it'd come out meaning "My Boss has a really firm butt".

I'm pretty sure she's implying that all manga arguments are petty, including hers. As a whole the majority of arguments in AP are petty seeing as they are arguing about children's comic books.

Unfortunately it's not a joke. I guess that's what happens when you sleep for 3 hours a night.
