Yeah, honestly, fuck the ants. They're the most disgustingly and violently destructive villains in the most nihilistic arc in the series. Pity? Fuck them in their righteous ass.

I do. All the time. It's one of the things that turn me off from this manga. The unnecessary grimness and nihilistic vibes present from day 1. When he killed those two bystanders cause "he needed to let out some steam" and gave off a sadistic look? At that time I thought "ok, this guy is definitely a rotten apple, sooner or later he'll be confronting Gon cause this is absolutely sick and twisted", but, what do you know? Gon fully embraces all his psycopathic tendencies! Maybe one day you'll wake up with your fucking trachea ripped off cause poor lil' cute electric eel boy needed to "let out some steam", but who cares? Grey Morality Seal of Approval and begone all implications of being a sick fuck!

And, again, the ants gaining a tiny bit higher morale ground doesn't hinder the fact that 1-they were planning a MASSIVE genocide, 2- they did some horrifyingly sadistic acts of torture during their lives (that shot of Pitou torturing Pokkle is top 5 sickening shit in this manga), 3- killed tons of little kids. . .them getting killed was fully called for, and no amounts of nuclear champagne will hide that fact. And 5000 cocoons still survived, so yeah, humans are somewhat not that fucking good at species genocide apparently. . .

Does Gon even know it was killua that killed those guys in the hallway?

Never mind that, does Gon even know there were two people killed in the hallway of the ship?

I think the only human Gon has actually witnessed Killua kill was that serial killer that got his heart ripped out. The other killing occurred when Gon was knocked out after his fight with Hanzo, and he blamed it on Illumi.

With that said, I'd say Gon is a worse person than Killua, Killua's sins are greater, but can he really be blamed for that? The guy was raised by Illumi after all. Killua has been killing people ever since he was potty trained, and it doesn't help that his older brother was brainwashing him with his whole, "killing is pleasure, you were born to kill, etc.

Wagomu

It's hard to fully hold Killua's murderous tendencies against him because he was taught that from a young age. Over the course of the series, he's cut down on his needless killings and, while that doesn't excuse the deeds of his past, it shows that he isn't a heartless monster and that a lot of his wickedness was learned.

As for the ants, they are a really funny case. As much as Togashi goes on with the 'are we really so different?' crap, I can't ignore the fact that the ants are only sympathetic in any way because they gained a bunch of sympathetic traits from humans. The answer to 'are we so different' is no, because they're part human.

This chapter was good. I fully expected Leorio to ask Cheadle to bring Kurapika along with them rather than Killua or Gon. There's nothing really tying the younger protagonists to this arc yet, so I think the focus will be mainly on Leorio and Kurapika, with a bit of Ging's involvement now that he's out in the open and is no longer a "background character".

Pariston is acting exactly as I expected him to… on the surface, a Charismatic leader, but on the inside, a sociopathic nightmare, which makes him perfect for Beyond's 2nd Expedition. It's odd, though, because from what we've seen based on Kurapika's Prequel story and the current events, the Dark Continent is basically a "Grand Line" of sorts, with bad parts and livable parts. Then again, the Kurta Village and the town a day away could have been in one of the few safe zones of the DC.

The ability is "Cross Game" it's written as　"密室裁判", "密室" can either be a room that can't be entered because it's been closed off(like in detective stories when a murder happens behind closed doors) or more literally a secret room. "裁判" means trial or judgement.

I also think Gon is going to be involved in the Dark continent arc but I don't think Gon's goal in life has been achieved yet. His goal was to find his father and find out what made hunting so interesting to Ging that he would abandon his only child. If exploring the Dark Continent has been Ging's goal all along then wouldn't it make sense for Gon to want to see the Dark Continent too.

The only chains that are reserved for Ryodan members are his Chain Jail (middle finger) and Judgement Chain (pinky finger). The other 2 chains + Emperor Time can be used against anyone. We still haven't seen his index finger ability yet either, so make that 3 chains.

Judgement can be used on everyone, requirement is he must enter his scarlet eye state to use it.

I find them similar that both live for their own twisted pleasures with no regards for consequences,Hisoka looks for physical fights while pariston looks for the mental fights ,pariston/ging remind me of Hisoka/kuroro makes sense you'd be on Ging's boat however this time I think Ging is more likely to win but I'm cheering for pariston

If I understood correctly, the limitation of Judgement Chain is that he also places a blade in his own heart, or something like this. I don't know in what scenario the blade could kill him instead of his enemy, but I guess it could be turned against him or something like this?

But, yeah, I recalled his non-Spider fighting abilities to be decent and overpowered while fighting a Spider, but it seems I recalled wrong if the only difference is Chain jail (which is his best ability IMHO, but the rest are pretty OP already).

Well like I said people majorly underestimate Kurapika, even if he can't use the chain jail he still seems to be able to compete. Especially after the showing of hunters during the election was kind of poor. The impression I got during that is when we're talking about combat orientated nen users, there are probably more people that aren't part of the hunter organization that are way more impressive.

Like after Illumi and Hisoka practically massacred that faction that had one of the crime hunters as their head, I'd have to put most of the spiders way above the average of what the organization could offer.

Also judgement chain is not that powerful, the ability only works when pointed at someone's heart and well I'd assume the heart being vital and all it's rather hard to strike with that at someone. That's why he needs the jail chain to safely use the judgement chain.

I think what will be crucial is what Kurapika can do during emperor time. After the spiders learned about most of his abilities I assume that he prepared himself accordingly.

I will reserve judgement until we have seen Kurapika during a serious fight against non-Spiders and how he is able to use his chains. But it seems rather poor storytelling already to give him that many, that versatile powers besides the limited one.

And yes, the Ryodan learning about his powers should level the playingfield a lot and give them a good chance, unless the unknown fifth power is also something extremely powerful.
Also, his main power against them, the Chain Jail, can be broken physically, and even though Ubovin was not able to do it, I can imagine that this is a weakness that can be exploited.

That's a pretty insane leap in strength from rookie to Ryodan level strength.

I think Judgment Chain is really OP if you have no idea what it really does but once someone gains knowledge on JC's pros and cons, it can be a bad move to use. Hence must be the reasons why a) The Genei Ryodan was trying to gain some info on the "chain user" after being able to take down a powerful Enhancer and; b) Kurapika made Chain Jail a Spider-exclusive skill to make Judgment Chain more effective against a Spider.

If I'm not mistaken the steps in using Judgment Chain are (The 2nd and 3rd steps can be interchanged based on what I saw during the Uvogin and Pakunoda incident)…
1. Enter Emperor Time
2. Use Judgment Chain.
3. Tell the target the conditions (max: 2) s/he must follow.

The con though on entering Emperor Time is that on a prolong or repeated use, it takes a toll on Kurapika's body as seen during the start of the Greed Island Arc where he suffered a high fever for days after using Judgment Chain twice on one day (Paku and Chrollo on the airship).

Ok, so let´s see if we can all reach an agreement here.

Kurapika is a materialization user
When his eyes are red, he can use 100% of every category: Emperor Time
Kurapika forms a chain with his Aura
The Chain has 5 different abilities, one for each finger.
One of them is a non fighting ability. The Dowsing one. Used for tracking people and as a truth test.
One of them is a healing ability. This one can probably only heal serious injuries when Kurapika is in Emperor Time.
Kurapika´s uses Enhancement/Reinforcement to heal. In his normal state, he can only us it up to 60%. This probably isn´t enough to heal any serious injury.
One of them is the chain Jail. It can only be used against a restricted group of individuals.
One of them we don´t know.
And the final, he can only use when his eyes are red. Even if he enters Emperor time, he must still have the target immobilised to use it.

So basically, Kurapika does not have a pure combat ability out of his Hatsu (maybe the fifth one?)
The only one with application in real combat is the Jail one, but it´s use is limited.
He must rely on normal combat techniques and Nen application to win a fight. Hopefully he can restrict the opponents movement so he can use Judgement.
I´m going to guess he can still use his chain like a weapon, even if it is the Dowsing one, but it´s just a normal chain. The only unbreakable one is the Jail, and it´s because it reduces the enemy to a Zetsu state, and a normal human can´t break a chain.

It´s a useful ability for his purposes, but not really the best one in normal combat against Arc Boss number 2.

Kurapika was definitely blessed with a lot more talent with Nen than the rest of the cast, having evolved his power in that manner and receiving Judgment Time when his eyes turn scarlet. This was probably more so that he could be more level with the Troupe's 13 members as well as Togashi figuring out what exactly he wanted to do with Nen at the time. Before Kurapika the most that it got complex with was probably Hisoka.

Probably, a good amount of his combat strength that is non-spider related is probably related with the index finger, but I'm sure you all brought that up already.

Pretty much what i said in my post.
His Hatsu just doesn´t seem that strong in combat.
Judgement was only used in targets in a zetsu state and Dowsing only has the strength of a regular chain.
In non Emperor time moments, his heal is also quite weak.

I'd argue being a combat oriented support is rather powerful and insanely useful. For example take the cow guy not knowing what the limits of his incapacitating skill is, but he uses that and Kurapika is setup for using the judgement chain.

It all hinges upon Emperor Time though which enables him to not just drop when targeted.

Yeah, but his combat support abilities (namely the healing chain), which seems to be useful mainly in the setting of Emperor Time, otherwise his enhancer abilities will be insufficient for healing against a prepared opponent. But you know we'll see.

Yeah, as it should be. I know Leorio's a tough cookie, but a few cases to help you get more battle hardened in the Dark Continent shouldn't really account for the same amount in preparation for the basics of medicine, and this would be more medic work than anything. And, more importantly to the story, it highlights what Leorio's actually putting on the line by joining the Zodiacs.

I just read the viz version, a lot of things make a lot more sense now. (reviewers really should wait until this comes out)

From what I understand.

Cheadle needs some outside expertise for the DC, but it could cause problems if she just brought them on as a 3rd party, so she basically wants to make an easy hunter exam so they can pass and become hunters.
Pariston does not like this because it's boring, and it's not something Netero would do. He says Netero would refuse to cooperate with Beyond and V5 and find his own way there. (to the DC)
Ging says Pariston is planning on sending all 500 chimeras to pass this easy exam, or release them out into the world to smoke out some people that he would find interesting to play with depending on how the Hunter association acts.
Ging claims he is the new #2 of the group. (#1 being beyond I guess)
The boat ride to the DC will take 2 months.
