Shingeki no Kyojin.
Devil Survivor.
Garganta.Hunter X Hunter (continuing).
Chihiyafuru (continuing).RDG if it doesn't suck.
Hataraku Maou-Sama if it doesn't suck.
Others if they don't suck.I am Aku no Laughing.
Oh and I LOVED Little Witch Academia. :3 -
Okay after watching the first episode of Aku no hana it exceeded my expectations. All the characters look ugly as sin but I can kinda see what they were going for with the rotoscoping thing. The movement of the characters, whilst ugly, does seem to have a nice sort of natural flow to it which was cool. The ending theme also perfectly encapsulated the pretentious and 'edgy' feel of Aku no hana, the opening however was balls. I'm not going to drop it yet but I do wander why they didn't just make this a live action thing.
yeah I'm kind of with you on this one
Like trust me guys I really wanted to laugh. But I didn't find Aku no Hana funny at all. I was really looking forward to some hilariously bad animation for a manga I really hate, but I didn't get it.
It's really weird for a mainstream anime, definitely, for sure. But its art direction isn't really a huge problem. It'll probably look godawful when it's in more tense and constant motion, though. I stopped watching like 5 minutes in but because it was mostly just slow lumbering pace it looked ok.
You're right as far as the live action thing goes. Everything from the sound mixing, the audio period, the way the director is framing everything, the pacing… it's 100% live action. It's live action with choppy rotoscoping. I don't get where they're going for this. If you're going to half-ass the art direction, why bother?
Edit; Oh god I watched a little bit further and that lead girl looks bizarre as hell, I can definitely agree with everyone on that. I just closed the window because it was challenging me too much.
-
The anime is not funny.
The fact that they did this to an existing franchise, in its first incarnation into animation, is funny.I read people defending its "experimenting". Yeah. Sure. That's all good and all, but why not experiment with something completely original made by yourself, and not on someone else's work. Not that I care, since I give not a hoot about the manga anyways.
But I'll continue laughing at all the fanboys bitching at the show regardless.

I had been kind of misreading everybody

I Can't Believe My Little Satan Could Be This Cute?!
Oh No, I Made a Cute Robot Girl But the Soul of A Dark Lord Jumped Into It?!
Man i'm on a roll why don't I have a job making light novels that get turned into cashcow anime
I Tried To Summon a Demon For Revenge, So Who's This Little Sister?!
My Time Machine Brought Back My Future Daughter! … And My Future Demon Wife?!
! Help! I Got a Job Writing Light Novels But My Boss Is My Little Sister!
! actually i am like 100% sure that that one is already taken -
Did most light novels always have these awful declarative sentence titles or did I Can't Believe My Little Sister is This Cute! pioneer it?
-
It didn't pioneer it, long declarative titles that get shortened have been in Japanese media for a while (like Kochikame is a big example), not even just light novels, but there is definitely a new specific trend regarding them that took over light novels in a way that, at least I personally, had never really seen to such an extent
Mostly involving little sisters
which reminds me
I Never Imagined My Little Sister Would Become the Death Empress God of the New World Order
-
I'll be looking foward to S2 of Oreimo or whatever it's english title is. I'll have to sit through watching Kirino being a bitch again but like the other poster said, I'll mostly be watching it for Kuroneko and to see whoever Kyosuke ends up with.
-
If I get into it, it'll be waaay off topic, and I've made many posts in other forums discussing it, but….
[rant]! I've always expressed my dislike and dis-satisfactions with light novels.
And I get argued by these people who claim that I don't know what I'm talking about, go read the actual novels, etc, etc.
! When in fact.
I've been reading these novels since before the term "light novels" got applied to it, or before the eroge writer rejects all went to LN market (hell I've even been playing those eroge all those years), or before most of these forum posters were even BORN.
The term Light Novel is a relatively new term that got applied to a certain group of teen/young adult novels published by certain publishers. And that is basically, the Sonorama bunko and Fujimi Fantasia Bunko novels. The early years were mostly fantasy and sci-fi, from Vampire Hunter D to Megami Tensei to Yousei Sakusen.
Heck I still freakin' own some of those novels from my youth. I have several novels from one of the founding fathers of the light novels, Sasamoto Yuuichi still sitting on my shelf.
! But around the time Slayers became popular, the readership shifted from these classics to bread-and-butter video game fantasy novels. And yes, I blame Slayers, since Lodoss Wars surely didn't cause it. LOL. From there on, the LN market became more and more juvenile, in a BAD way. Then after the 90s influx of eroge and imouto fad, the market became oversaturated in the 2000s, causing many reject writers to head for novels… and found success there. Nowadays a lot of writers who otherwise would be writing porn headed to novels for much better chance at getting cash.
! It's no longer what it used to be, and the entire market is saturated with massive pile of foul smelling shitpile.
I'm not saying there's no good light novels out there anymore, hell Sasamoto is still freakin' active (Miniskirt/Moretsu Pirates comes to mind recently) but vast majority of them out there are worse than horse dung.

Sounds like the current Young Adult market

I kinda like the Aku no Hana manga. Part 2's been better than part 1 in it feels a little less forced and awkward. But yeah, that's basically a drama that they forced into making an odd-looking rotoscoped anime. I was wondering why all the promo material and previews they had in Bessatsu Shounen Magazine were just showing the evil flower thingie and they never showed characer models, voice actors, or anything. It's kinda weird, it's like a bait and switch. Like they were trying to keep this a secret.
And it does look like the author HEAVILY changed the tone. The original manga is a lot more lighthearted. But I dunno. It may be okay on its own, if you think of it as like a re-imagining of the manga rather than like… a regular anime.
-
Hataraku Maou: first surprise of the season.
-
Watched a couple of other first episodes (Karneval and Hatarakou). Not a fan of these anime so far.
IMO, Majestic Prince's first episode was the best. Also watched the first 2 "Anime Mirai 2013". Little Witch Academia was great. I liked a little less Death Billiards.
! Not a fan of open endings
-
Anyone read the Aku no Hana manga? I watched the lulzly first episode and started reading the manga…it's really angsty, but I've got a burning question.
! What happened to Sekai after the time-skip? Maybe I wasn't paying full attention but I lost track of her.
-
First time I read Shuzo Oshimi's works was "Devil Ecstasy". All four volumes.
I can honestly say it was one of the worst garbage I've ever read, and I've read thousands of manga.
I have no idea why it's regarded so high by some reviewers. Then I read Hyouryuu Net Cafe. All seven volumes.
It had a good premise, although complete ripoff of Hyouryuu Classroom.
I expected the stranded customers of the Net Cafe in the alternate dimension to explore and witness the mistery of that world.
Nope. Rape. Rape, rape, rape, rape rape. Oh, and rape. About HALF the entire manga focused on rape and physical abuse.
I forced myself to read through to the end just so I can have an ease of mind that I completed it. It was torture.
The plot was terrible, obnoxious, and not a single character appealing. Vomitingly bad manga. Then came Aku no Hana.
I read the first two volumes and gave up.
I'm sure it's a much better manga than his previous works, but nevertheless, I will never read this man's work again. -
I'm watching MJP.
It's dumb,it's really dumb, but what saves it is the fact that it seems to be fully aware of how dumb it is.It doesn't take itelf seriously in the least, there's not a hint of angst or actual drama so far, instead having these silly people act silly and interact in a silly fashion for your amusement, amidst high speed robot battles that aren't too bad.
All in all,could be fun.

Seeing this post, is anyone also watching something weird and actually doesn't even know why, even though you might think its mostly crap, I'll say my current shit series, Ixion Saga DT, I have no idea but every 2 or 3 weeks I catch up with it, nothing about it appeals to me, I don't like the humour that much, there isn't much action, its weird as heck, yes I come back to watch it again.
-
I just finished the first episode of Devil Survivor 2. Overall I liked it a fair bit more than Persona 4's first episode, as they didn't try to cram four hours of dense exposition into twenty-five minutes. I like that Hibiki actually has a personality, even if it's one that isn't exactly stand-out, and that they're not following the game's progression of events down to a T like Persona 4 mostly did. Some of the rewrites and additions were good, while others weren't as much (the truck scene during the Dubhe fight comes out of nowhere in the anime and is ultimately useless, and Yuzuru wasn't introduced at all). I am a little concerned that the plot's going to be rather rushed and some of the characters marginalized if this is only going to be twelve-thirteen episodes like I've been hearing instead of two full seasons.
Still, a decent first episode over all. The demons and the effects, like for the summoning sequences and the lighting effects when JP's appears at the end look great. I especially liked how they replicated the Septentrione's death animation from the game (though the Evangelion-esque rainbow effect was rather lulzy). I definitely hope that the studio can maintain at least this baseline quality.

Just watched the first episode of SnK
I'm crying

It's very faithful to the manga.
They didn't go all-out on animation, conserved a lot of scenes with minimal animation on slow scenes, so they can make awesome action ones.
The art of the backgrounds and cels are FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC. -

Watched and liked Suisei no Gargantia (an original work by Production I.G.).
-
Watching Gargantia and…is it me or MJP's CGI space battles look honestly better than this?
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
That which came after the battles, now that was pretty good.
Seems nice.I really like the idea of a soldier from a superior civilization and his semi-sentient giant robot being stranded on a backwater planet. With all the culture clashes and other shenanigans that entails.
Still sad about the crappy looking CG though. The aforementioned robot looks incomparably better in static 2 shots of it's moments of inactivity than in it's 3D action "glory".
-
Hataraku Maou-sama was crazy good.

! If they're going for the whole 3?4? endings that are in the game, it means that there's only going to be 7 to 8 episodes to expand. It's going to be rushed, but I still think it's managable especially if you trim out the edges in the game.
-
It's doable assuming that they only go one route, but it is probably going to leave some of the more peripheral characters underdeveloped (then again, guys like Jungo and especially Keita weren't exactly fountains of character depth to begin with in the game).
So, Suisei no Galgantia. It reminds me of Waterworld crossed with Planet of the Apes at the moment. I guess the fact that the main girl characters seem to come in small, medium, and large kinda gives away the fact that the character designer is a hentai artist. The first episode was good, I like how they handled the fish out of water aspect for the most part, though I go agree that the CG battles make me sigh.
-
You know, now that I've actually seen Aku no Hana…I have no fucking idea what the crazy shitstorm over at MAL is about.Sure the use of rotoscoping is questionable, but not to the point where it should get treated like the coming Anti-Christ.

The problem is, this isn't their original work.
It's based on a manga series that already has a following.Imagine if the first anime One Piece ever got looked like Power Puff Girls. How would you feel.

If it were done by the former Gainax/PGS team…then fuck yeah!

No,I get that.I agree that bold experimantation(and really they didn't pull it off flawlessly and it lookspretty reproachable, even though it doesn't really come close to matching the mental image of the sheer horrible anime Satan the shitstoms build up),but people are still blowing it way out of proportion. It's not just the disgruntled fans, but also random anime-only dudes who are overreacting like hell. The episode's larger problem was that it dragged on and on and on,being absolutely unengaging aside from the creepy atmosphere and the hints of the protag's pettiness.
Funny thing is that,if what thy say is correct, the author of the source material had a raging hard on for these visuals, giving his full blessing and saying that he wished he was able to draw shoddily rotoscoped people like that.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The part about overreaction holds true for the defending side as well, with their "artistic!artistic!bah,u be moefags!2good4u!",ignoring the actual reproachable points.

Let's see what I've got so far
-Aku no Hana: at first I too didn't get what all the fuss was about but after comparing the anime to the manga and how it's supposed to look like, I understood. For now I'll keep watching 'cause the story seems promising
-Nyaruko-san W: the first season had me rolling on the floor and so far its sequel is doing the job too
-Photokano: I for some reason expected more of this show. My main problem is that there's too many girls (7 iirc), the art is rather mediocre and some of the side characters annoy the fucking hell out of me. One more episode and if the show doesn't redeem itself then, it's dropped
-Red Data Girl: not really sure what to think of this one yet. Could be good, could be bad; I'll see
-Shingeki no Kyojin: pure sex
-Suisei no Gargantia: the visuals look pretty darn sweet and the story seems promising. Also a keeper for now
-Yahari ore no bla bla: that was a really cool first episode. Sure, those LN adaptions all have a similar feeling to them but this one made me interested in seeing moreI still have like five shows left to watch but don't really feel like doing it atm. Guess I've watched too many anime lately and need a break lol.
-
Just saw the first episode of the second season of Yondemasuyo, Azazel-san, god that was hilarious.
-
Watched the second episode of Gargantia today, the show shapes up to be the second highlight of this season for me besides Shingeki
-
I agree, of the three outer-space robot shows that started this season, Gargantia is the best, Valvrave is mediocre, and Magestic Prince was pile of garbage.
-
Ah yes, Valvrave. The first episode felt pretty standard for mecha until
! lol vampires, so I dunno. I'll watch at least the first half of the show to see how it goes. I didn't know that the character designer is/was the author of D.Grayman.
-
Production I.G is on a roll this year.
Gargantia, Kyojin, KuroBas S2, and the upcoming GiTS: ARISE.
-

All that just for "Trade negotiations" lmao
-
I didn't know that the character designer is/was the author of D.Grayman.
Wait…isn't that author supposed to be sick or something? At least that's why she called it quits with this serie?
-
Just designing characters is no doubt far less strenuous than drawing an ongoing manga series. Or whatever caused her to finally throw in the manga towel happened after she'd already done her work for the anime.
-
I enjoyed the first episode of Valvrave. If it doesn't follow the Gundam SEED path it has a lot of potential.
So, I ended picking up the 3 mecha anime of this season (those 3 + Shingeki make a promising season for me).
On another note, I loved the animation of Avre Rezzle (one of the Anime Mirai Special). I can't wait to watch an anime by those animators.
-
Gargantia's second episode has conclusively sold me on this show.
I'm really interested in how the negotiations will play out.
! All this time, they've been holding under a gunpoint a party that,in case of open hostilities, could utterly annihilate them without any semblance of an effort on it's part,in about ten seconds. This thought must be really terrifying to the Gargantians right now.I wonder if they'll try to get on their good side and use this weird stranger amd his talking robot of doom for their own sake.
That and the culture clash.Ledo doesn't seem to have a concept of mercy, which is only naturl seeing how he's been fighting monstrous space nautili for his entire life. He's been literally a military since his birth.I also love Chamber."We're super…strong".
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Magestic Prince was pile of garbage.
Well to it's defence,it does have Space Nico Nico Douga wwwwwwwwwwwwwww
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
-
So…Valvrave...cliched as bloody fuck.
-
Gargantia
I utterly love the fact the animators did a 100% great job adapting Naruko Hanaharu's art.
IMO, the no.1 best artist in adult porn manga industry by far.Too bad after all these success we may not see him return to ero.
-
So the characer designer used to do porn?Well, that explains all the female proportions.
-
Beh, yeah, two episodes in and I might end up dropping Valvrave. The characters are just tropes given human skin. I don't know any of them outside of which anime trope they fall into. I'll give it a few more episodes, but I'm not being drawn in, and the Dyson Sphere makes my inner astronomy's blood boil.
I was a little surprised at the direction Devil Survivor 2 went in with the third episode. Definitely drawing me in more than Persona 4 did, which was pretty much a straight-up adaptation.

So the vampire thing doesn't seem to evolve into anything beyond being a random gimmick, the whole show keeps trying to fulfill the cliche quota, and the wishful thinking quite a few viewers had about this show playing bait and switch and simply pretending to be a lame Gundam wannabe tropefest wasn't at all fulfilled in the end.
-
Hopped aboard the Gargantia wagon yesterday and enjoyed the ride.
Currently watching SnK, Gargantia and Hataraku Maou this season (and a certain selection of episodes of Railgun S).
I can't remember the last time I've watched this much anime. -
So I've finished watching all the shows I planned to for the spring reason and while a few ones ('bout 4-5) were dropped, there's still a lineup of 10 shows
- Shingeki no Kyojin: self-explanatory really
- Hataraku Maou-sama
- Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge: probably found a hidden gem there
- Nyaruko-san W
- Kakumeiki Valvrave: out of the three mecha shows this one ranks #2 after Suisei; it's Sunrise and the story's alright so far
- Suisei no Gargantia: beautiful drawings and stunning animation
- Photokano: obligatory ecchi show?
- Hentai ouji to Warawanai neko: got its own kind of charm
- Date a Live
- Yahari ore no title's still too long
Technically it's 11 shows since there's also Railgun S but since I first have to watch the prequel, it doesn't count for now. Till summer season, fellas.
-
Today I learned with Valvrave 3rd episode what real incompetence/negligence is and seen the first future divination that is explained as a plan(that part of "Behind you is the answer" made me LOL so much).
I don't know why everybody here seems to hate Majestic Prince. For now I like it more than Valvrave and Gargantia. Gargantia seems to have more substance and I can see easily becoming better than MP, but Valvrave is so incredible bad that the only good thing it have is the good animation.
