And people can talk all they want about how leaving Kurapika and Leorio out of the majority of the story is "cool" and "subversive", but….I dunno man.
There are folks that think this? Um…why? How is that "cool" in particular?

Actually, I can't cite anyone specifically, but I seem to recall some people defending it.
At any rate, I was referring to how Toriyama tends to forget/underdevelop his own characters. Whereas Shanks was Luffy's main inspiration and remains his goal, Kite was just Gon's teacher I guess and I'm not totally sure why he even exists.

I will never forgive Toriyama for throwing Lunch into pit of obscurity to be forgotten forever. DAMN YOU TORIYAMA DAMN YOU TO HELL

The anime could have done rein free filler with her for FOREVER, but they pretty much gave up after the Saiyan arc when they realized she was never coming back.
Can you imagine if they'd randomly shunted her along for the Namek arc?

Would probably result in less shittiness then the "random kids in space/fake Namek" , or "outwiting Freeza's henchmen" fillers.
My opinion is the people who made the DBZ anime sucked immensely at making filler they actualy had to build up from scratch, so that's why there was only a single filler arc per se.
Which is realy realy weird and I have no idea what imbecile decided that having episode-long stare downs instead was the much more sensible way to go.
And yeah, Lunch was awesome, but she kinda ended up defaulting to "angry" mode, only not being a bitch anymore. Was kinda nice to be honest.

I wouldn't say it's cool, but it does subvert the trope where the main character's teammates are attached to him at the hip and go EVERYWHERE with him. It's nice how they have their own goals that won't be accomplished just by sticking with Gon.
(It kinda kills the idea that they're "the main group", though.)

I dunno. It sorta became the nature of the show. Its slowly building tension and drama that way.
They overdid it completely some of the times, but in some cases it worked for a slow boil.

Just because they're not travelling together, doesn't mean they have to vanish off the face of the manga.
I really need to try picking up HxH again sometime soon, but I do remember scratching my head at a lot of Togashis "subverting" handling of plotlines; especially int he "lets get Killua back from his family oh wait they're letting him go now anyway" chapters.
Its a style of writing to adjust to, to be sure.

The one thing I remember as a kid was that one episode of, incidentally, the Namek arc where Frieza has Goku's head dunked under water and he starts flashing back to all of his loved ones and all of sudden Lunch pops up, and I'm like "Who the hell is that lady?"
Poor Lunch. Even Hacchan got to take part in the final genkidama contribution.
I forgot most of the details in GI (I only remember the general direction of the story) and when I watched the episode I didn't get the impression. It wasn't until my second viewing that I remembered, "hey weren't Hisoka's fingers supposed to be broken?" and just chalked it up to one of the things MH skipped.
I heard those sounds, but it didn't occur to me broken fingers, more like over-contraction of the muscle or whatever that shows exertion of effort. "Clearly see each hand", first it happened too fast for it to register. Second, it could have just been yet again a portrayal of the effort exerted, not necessarily that the fingers were broken.
If you already read the manga and remember the details, I understand why you would say those are "clues" that point to Hisoka's fingers being broken. But as someone who has forgotten the details/new viewers, this wasn't conclusive.
His fingers did break.

Speaking of completely forgotten dragonball characters…it is safe to assume that this guy and his two lackeys died once the moon exploded (the first time...though it is hard to determine since the moon blew up around 4-ish times throughout the entire serie)?
!
^That's another thing that baffles me is that, in theory, Boss Rabbit could potentially defeat Frieza, Cell, and all the other big bads that came later in the series.
I completely forgot about that guy, to the point when I only know him now from Shenlong no Nazo.
Yep, Boss Rabbit could have solved a lot of problems in the latter parts of Dragon Ball.
Oh look it's Raditz…opps, he's now a carrot.
Oh Nappa and Vegeta...opps they're both carrots too. (Actually this would have been both ironic and hilarious...Vegeta the carrot...).
Freiza, Cell, and Androids...poof they're carrots.
Yet folks don't ever include Boss Rabbit when it comes to discussing the UNIVERSE'S MOST POWERFUL BEINGS... He's just another one of Toriyama's forgotten characters.
Actualy, I do think Lunch got a panel for the final Genki dama. . . .right? (At least in the anime she got a moment there).

Both Arale AND Devilman would annihilate every antagonist.
Arale broke the Earth in half with a single punch, Devilman uses any evil inside you to destroy you.

That's assuming Boss Rabbit would have the speed and skills to get near, let alone touch them (which he had trouble doing against kid Goku).
Actualy, I do think Lunch got a panel for the final Genki dama. . . .right? (At least in the anime she got a moment there).
IIRC she shows up in the manga too.
Speaking of Arale…would have loved to have her and Slump randomly make cameos during the Android/Cell arc. If I were to be talking about "power-levels", doesn't Arale trump the Androids? Gee who would have thought the bumbling Dr Slump created a more powerful android than Dr Gero? It's weird to think that they both exist in the same universe.
His fingers did break.

Yeah, that's rather unclear.
Yeah, that's rather unclear.
You can clearly hear it in the anime?
And they do show them…
hearing him say it would've been better though.
I guess they just wanted to get to the "WAHOOOOOO WAHOOO" on a resolved note.
Although, I couldn't think of a cooler one than the page where they announce their victory.
I actually didn't even realize his final move with the bungee gum broke some of fingers until I saw it in the anime. I knew he broke some of fingers catching the ball, but not during his final move.
So yeah, I would say that scene made it clear enough.
Why do I like this song so much? Well, to be fair… all the ED are good this time around.
I didn't really enjoy Popcorn.
Can't wait to hear the new ending theme for CA. It's such a long arc, I wonder if we'll get two ending themes for it
I've liked all the ending themes so far but the first was my favorite
Reason is awesome, but nothing can beat [h=1]
I dunno, personally I'm pretty partial to
whoops that isn't an ending. oh well
Hisoka's character song
Reason is awesome, but nothing can beat
I like this one, but if you listen closely, you can hear CLAMP squealing in the background.
(I have no idea if they like HxH)
And Gliblord, oh god.
At first I thought that was his OST theme. I love that guitar.
The lyrics are super disturbing too
Requiem of madness
The requiem I play every night
I felt it to a peaking extent
You look tasty, I found youI’ll dye you crimson, like fruit
Your ripening makes me moist
Throwing up blood and stopping your breath
That moment is forever sweetCome, come out of those bushes
Let me gouge out those trembling eyes
Just wait, extend both your hands
Lies being dangled at this feast of madnessTonight I’ll give you an embrace
Piling up beautifully
Becoming filled with love, it’s splendidA wet drop trickling down
If I squeeze it, it turns into a rose
Scattering and flying off, turning cold
That moment is forever crimsonCome, look at this stage of dreams
On the tangled thread, sweet poison
Just wait, extend both your hands
I’ll dye you in madness on this whimsical nightJust by capturing you in my gaze
You don’t feel alive anymore, do you?
Only you are mine
Because you’re still too precious to breakCome, come out of those bushes
Let me gouge out those trembling eyes
Just wait, extend both your hands
Let me teach you the song of madness
I like this one, but if you listen closely, you can hear CLAMP squealing in the background.

Clamp??? That allwomen mangaka team? 0_o
Clamp is a women only team?
Yep, Baroness )) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamp_(manga_artists) I remeber watching X when I was little with my sister. good times
I wanted to join in on Togashi day commemoration earlier, but I guess the celebration spirit got me so hard I managed to take action only now. I guess that is also a way of doing it right.
P.S. in a way, the celebration itself was put on a 5-day hiatus.

That explains a lot about the manga I've seen through them lol.

Yes:

Edit:
Mortea.. snicker
Presumably the carrot/evil in your heart tricks had limits… similar to the dragonballs not being able to exceed Kami's power and beat the Saiyans.
Cell could survive his heart blowing up. And Vegitto could still fight being candy (I think that was filler).
Mortea, that's more Togashi than Togashi himelf!
Fantastic.

According to Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Devil man could beat everyone.
A funny side chapter that was.
I still want the Super Butoden DS, with Super Human Krillin and Yamcha fighting every major villain and dying horribly.
Speaking of anime games, Hunter X Hunter seems like it would make for a very fun quest-action rpg.
Yes, because a video game made twenty years after the fact is authoritive source on the matter.
have you seen Nefelpito's design? Jeez, does she have breasts on th picture? so Pito is female after all?

Just like Kurapika and Alluka.
Pitou is a tribrid from a worker ant (usually female unless this is some special kind of ant I don't know) a cat (female) and some at least androgynous human. So I would root for female.
I'm dying to see the palace break-in scene animated :)
Does anyone remember the Mosquito Chimera Ant? That's not a tail, folks.

It was just a fun cameo, that's all I meant. I really think they included him in that game for no other reason.

All ants are "male", except for Kaito for some odd reason.
Even the ant that takes over that town where the Genei Ryodan came from and eventually gets rocked by Faitan is 'male'?
All ants are "male", except for Kaito for some odd reason.
Kaito may be the next queen. "She" is the daugher of the queen after all.
Even the ant who has the soul of the young girl from the very beginning of the arc and returns to her mom in ant form is a girl? Togashi needs to hold Q&A columns in his volume releases
