Yeah, radiant historia was fantastic. It's definitely on par with the greats of the snes era IMO which isn't something I say lightly

looks like this is coming to the Wii U. Possibly a nice stop-gap till the actual JRPGs come out. Kinda feels a bit dodgy to me. Some of the sprites used are literally ripped from Suikoden.

Nobody recommend the "The World Ends With You" yet?
Such a great game. The Final Fantasy 4 remake (DS) is also one of my favorite FF games.
The Rune Factory and Castlevania (DS) games are also alot of fun.
I'd also like to recommend Monster Tale, a little gem that nobody seems to have heard of.
It's pretty much MetroidVania meets pokémon.!

Looks horrible, you can play rpg maker games for free that look better. Considering how much money he asked for and how much work the prototype still seemed to require, which seems like a lot more than £500 would pay for… But what do I know maybe it looking like it did is intentional and part of the charm.
-
It jumped from 2500 to 3600 in a few hours by simply saying it would go to the Wii U.
But yeah I got the impression it was a RPG maker game too. Couldn't remember if they did sideways view tho. I only had 2000 and that was front view
-
I think RPG-maker XP had that option.
There are some pretty good RPG-Maker games out there. Breath of Death, Vampires Dawn, Deadly Sin 2 etc.
-
Loved the Wii version, can't wait (wasn't aware that this will get a 3DS remake). -
So, it's just a remake and not a sequel? Been confused by that for a while. Well, anyway, I never played it on the Wii, so I'm looking forward to this!
-
Never played it at all, so probably just a good time as any to get into it.
-
Anyone picked up the new Castlevania for the 3DS? I did and it's pretty much brilliant. I was worried because by the pictures it didn't look like it retained the classic Metroidvania from previous games but it does. Combat feels a bit more like God of War however.

^ Played the demo and all I can say is the framerate is ass.

Never noticed it. But didn't play the demo. Only the actual game. Only problem I have is there seems to be a lack of ability to put subtitles on the game. And I aint found any way to get new combos or anything yet.

Mario and Luigi possibly have a brother we never knew about.

I thought that was supposed to be a joke lol.
And for some reason I thought Wario was supposed to be the other brother XD

you guys, I can't believe how hyped I am at the idea of a 3rd Mario Brother.
Name him Benito, give him a Blue color theme. Only thing is, we already had a game about the Mario Brothers getting separated at birth, but Yoshi got them back together and stuff, so there's really no room in the canon to declare that ACTUALLY the stork was carrying THREE babies but it dropped one on its own at some point before SMW2 started so yeah…
-
a 3rd Mario Sibling… that'd be awesome <3
THEY NEED A SISTER.
then all those mary sue Mario OCs can go home. -

It could be a younger or older brother. Mario & luigi are essentially twins but that doesn't stop another one coming later and being separated when the 2 entered the real world
-
It's Waluigi. He will finally be made canon a la Powerpuff Girls' "Twisted Sister."

I did, and yeah it was pretty good. Nice atmosphere, areas and combat too. It didnt feel as superb as the past games, but for what it was and how it bridges LOS and LOS2 i enjoyed it.

Is the music still shitty genericness? That's the main gripe I have with the new Castlevania in general.
-
If anyone got Lego City Undercover for 59.99 then you payed 10 dollars more than you need and should contact nintendo support
-
I was under the impression stores could price games however they wish regardless of the MSRP?
-
Idk all I know is some people payed 59.99 and should of had to only pay 49.99
-
It was supposedly mistakenly up on eshop for 59.99 rather than 49.99. That's probably what it's about.
From what I understand, LCU got hit with the exact same release problems that Fire Emblem had a month and a half ago. There are probably very few people who've been able to buy a hard copy at this point.

There are a few ok ones, mainly atmospheric. But yeah for the most part its pretty forgettable compared to all the other amazing music in the series.
-
the HarmoKnight Demo was pretty cool for a non pokemon themed game.
! did the Bike level sound like one of the old GB games?

That's too bad. I really hate how this studio pretty much skimped out on music while the original team(s) produced some really amazing musical numbers since its early days. Los gameplay was great, but…the damn music wasn't Castlevania music...not by a long shot.

How did it skimp out? It actually had a pretty impressive symphonic score. It just isn't what you wanted. But the game also wasn't a Castlevania game the way you probably speak of it. The game was very atmospheric; for the most part dark/grim and serious as well. The music is fitting, is what it is. Yeah, it didn't have any super catchy tunes jumping out at you, but I don't know how that could possibly fit into the redesign.
Actually, I do – in the exact way they did it. A music box level where the music box plays nothing but Vampire Killer, for example. Or parts of old tunes cleverly mixed into the cathedral music. It's fine if you don't like it, but don't equate "not like the old games" with "lazy, uninspired, and dull."
Don't get me wrong, I love the old music, and several remixes are on playlists I regularly listen to. Not to mention that I play piano arrangements of a couple of them too. But I also don't want the game to turn into a generic vampire hack and slash set to uppity tunes.

Essentially it certainly isn't what I wanted in a Castlevania title. Even though this is the first (at least that I know of) major western castlevania title, I still hoped that they will attempt to retain the charm of the previous Castlevania ost. Music seems to be one of the lasting elements of the Castlevania franchise that I hoped would follow through into the western ones. It doesn't have to sound super catchy like Michiru Yamane's Metroidvania works, but I wanted music that had some sort of personality to it.
The music is fine in terms of its functionality in enhancing the game playing experience. It wasn't jarring or annoying, but it was too generic. I feel I heard the ost somewhere before multiple times in other fantasy based adventure games (the whole "epic symphonic" pieces and so on) which would be fine in any other game, but I hoped for the music to retain the sort of feel from the previous titles much like how Silent Hill Downpour sorta carried on the musical elements of the previous Silent Hill titles. Silent Hill Downpour's ost didn't sound much like Akira Yamaoka's work, but it still retained the feel and personality of the older titles while still being new/different.
I think the Los ost its uninspired/dull because it sounds pretty much like any other fantasy game soundtrack with minor homages to the original. I had hoped for this one to retain some of the original's personality while not being an exact copy (which doesn't necessarily have to be "uppity" tunes, but at least something more memorable than generic fantasy symphonic tracks).
-
I think you are again blurring lines. It wasn't generic (and in fact it's pretty tough to compose a soundtrack like that). It just didn't have the same "dominant" foreground melodies as the older games, which are what you remember. Catchy tunes are easy to remember. Atmospheric tracks won't be remembered after the fact so much as good stand-alone music.
I would argue that the reason the music is one of the lasting elements is that music doesn't become outdated. Well, and nostalgia. But a good song is always a good song because it's not like music or our auditory perception are getting "more advanced." I'm speaking in general here, before anyone out there tries to start some huge discussion about the history of musical styles and socially accepted music.
Anyway it's fine if you don't like the direction they went with LoS. I think it was pretty brilliant (except the ending…), especially for a game with so much potential to fail.
-

Don't get me wrong, I thought LoS was a great game and severally underrated (maybe?). The gameplay was pretty good comparing to the previous Castlevania's 3D titles. The ending was stupid, but everything up to that point was great. They managed to maintain a lot of the previous Castlevania elements in terms of atmosphere/setting, enemies/design, and so on. Likewise, it also managed to escape from being a mere GoW clone…so major props to them.
However, it appeared they missed one of the bigger elements that made castlevania memorable (at least for me) was the musical composition (which, like you said, went from dominant melodies to something more functional/atmospheric). The music does a good job in what it is suppose to do, but it's overall pretty forgettable (which I think is a quality of a genericness because even atmospheric music can still be good stand alone music much like Silent Hill's ost or at least have some distinguishing characteristics that I can recognize that attributes it AS "Silent Hill" music). -
http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=198569 Nintendo of Europe has lifted the restrictions on m-rated games being bought over the eshop. From what's been said, it seems they were able to work things out with the german organization that created the law that led them to those restrictions. Honestly, I've got to believe this was the intention from the beginning and that Nintendo never wanted the restrictions to be permanent

Punch Out is up for 30p for those who own a Wii U.
-

It came out in Europe today, it was fun to play the demo yeah and I'm not a huge fan of rythm games, atleast the other two on 3DS I didn't like them(Rythm Thief or wtv its called and Final Fantasy).
The bike level is the music that plays when you get on the bike in the pokemon games.

I don't know, that's quite a hefty price tag
I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet
http://mynintendonews.com/2013/03/20/mighty-switch-force-2-coming-to-nintendo-eshop-this-spring/
Is it weird that i'm more excited for the soundtrack than anything else -
all this talk about castlevania music is funny to me because I played the shit out of the DS ones, but I have no strong memories of the music from those games. I have a general idea about what "castlevania music" sounds like, but certainly not enough to hear a tune and think "oh, this is Midnight Sinner Waltz from the clocktower section of portrait of ruin" or anything.
what I'm saying is that I continued to care about the music in LoS just as much as I did in previous games: very little. :P Its the fact that the game is so combat-heavy, and the whip has such a huge range that feels the most jarring.

Just got a Luigi's Mansion puzzle piece. Wasn't there supposed to be a fire emblem one?

Just got a Luigi's Mansion puzzle piece. Wasn't there supposed to be a fire emblem one?
I got the fire emblem puzzle weeks ago on 2/19 .. are the UK 3DS systems missing some of the puzzles now?
-
they come out around the same time as the game in that country. we will get fire emblem closer to the date. It's just like how japan have animal crossing and no one else does.
I'm expecting we'll get a pokemon X & Y one in october but i'm trying to think of a nintendo title for 3ds coming out before then (and not DK as we already have that puzzle) -
Mario Golf, Mario and Luigi will likely get ones.
They could be using it all as some advertising and put the likes of Nintendoland, Mario U, Pikmin 3 and some of the other exclusives (Monster Hunter, Lego City, Bayonetta etc)
-
they could although i expect them all to be nintendo franchises. Wind waker and Pikmin 3 could definatley show up though seeing as how we get return to dreamland and NSMBWii
-
We didnt even get Skyward Sword yet lol
-
Fuck yeah :D, Code of Princess comes out here next week and its only 29 euros(games are usually 40-45 euros), a nice game at a cheap price now I have something awesome to be entertained till Fire Emblem comes out.
-
Anyone else playing Luigi's Mansion 2 yet? it's so awesome
-
I thought Nintendo's marketing was pretty solid most of the time, but this is pretty funny
-
What's the difference between a giant checkmark in a blue box and a dot?
-
Nothing. Both are to show what each can do.
TBH as stupid as this looks to most people clued into gaming there are still a ton of people out there who think the Wii U is just a new controller for the Wii. So this'll be handy.
