Thank god 2K isn't Ubisoft. Who knows what they would've done to Bioshock…pfft hahahaha...too complex they say...
-
This is the sickest burn ever
Thank you dragon's crown artist
Edit: like honestly I do think it's kind of trashy to assume impossibly huge tits = hilariously huge muscles and chest on guys, it obviously isn't equal representation of a cartoonish and exaggerated style. It is a fair viewpoint that the sorceress and amazon are less cartoony than they are straight up awkward and overly sexualized
But man I hate Gawker. There's that genuine yellow tainted tone about their Kotaku coverage that sites that genuinely discuss these issues, like Rock Paper Shotgun, sincerely do not suffer from as they are legitimately safe environments and more professional where it counts. Kotaku attacking the Dragon Crown artist in the first place, then making a whole new story about whining that he defended himself is just so low. But so standard for them.
Also if you care enough to comment on this story don't actually go to the Kotaku website to look at it and give them hits for their whiny shit.
-
considering all of the doujinshi out, and has been out for some time I actually thought Dragon Crown had been out for a few years in Japan. How wrong I was. Can't wait for it myself. Looks so pretty. Was actually tempted to order the PSV version from Japan for the artbook
-
Kamitani has artistic integrity on his side.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Anyone picking up Dragon's Dogma? I was thinking about getting it and would figure I might just go with the console that other people around here have which is the Playstation.
-
I remember reading that Kotaku article and I remember thinking:
- Ooh, a new video for Dragon's Crown
- Um, the games art has been out for a while, you want to comment on it now?
- Kind of, I don't know, hypocritical to deride an artist for his immature art by calling him a 14-year old boy
-
His posts on Neogaf are pretty hilarious as well. 'I'm not saying that he can't make Dragon's Crown. I'm just saying he shouldn't.' Also, 'It's worthy of discussion if even one person is offended.' which would apply to just about every piece of work and a ton of other things.
-
@The:

I stopped ever visiting Kotaku for the reasons you mentioned.
I've really enjoyed the work that Polygon is doing, though it's comprised partially of Kotaku expatriates. Layouts are consistently wonderful, the community seems decent, and there's nary a single pandering clicks-grabbing headline on the front page. The reviews are up and down, as are the reviewers, but it was a breath of fresh air after the horrorshow that is Gawker Media.
-
nvm forgot bout the capcom thread
-
I can't say I'm deadly exited for Guilty Crown as I don't really like Odin Sphere that much. Demon's Blade was better, mainly for the combat, boss fights, and the thrill of discovering unleashes for weapons(sort of like Golden Sun at artifact weapons). Even so, the methods of progression, exploration, and optional challenges were always a total bore. And I'm kind of expecting the same from this game. I may look into it later into its launch.

Backed by a large AAA budget, the Thief team expanded rapidly. While the project attracted a few designers, programmers and artists from across the globe, many came from other Montreal studios. A number of senior team members previously worked together at Ubisoft Montreal, and were quick to recruit local colleagues. According to one source, collegial favoritism began to divide the office.
The lead and senior design roles were fluid, with some team members departing after less than two years. According to one source, each new lead and senior designer would come with a new vision for the game. Old ideas — including stages and mechanics — would be rebuilt or scrapped. In March of this year, the same month as the game's publicity push on the cover of Game Informer magazine, Lead Game Designer Dominic Fleury left the studio. . . .
Over the past few years, Square Enix has become increasingly concerned with the status of the game, now half a decade into development. A source says Eidos Montreal turned to a German investment firm for additional funds, something superiors within the studio claimed to be a common strategy in the industry and not cause for concern.
The current version of Thief barely resembles the initial concept, says a source. The vertical slice doesn't load inside Thief's current heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3. Many programming tricks were necessary to run the current demonstration, like turning off non-playable character AI — the engine has trouble when too many characters are on screen.
Lots of people leaving and issues with doing what they want in UE3's apparently causing the game to slip into development hell.
-
And yet even in spite of this news I have this suspicious feeling Thief 4 will still come out before Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts 3.
-
So yeah, I just did this:
Jill is still unknown, probably largely due to the fact people are deadset that it's someone named Una Kavanagh who has repeatedly stated that it isn't her, there's proof to back that up as well. Oh, and Lynn Harris (Rebecca) voice directed the game as they needed one… she never did it before. Big surprise right?

This video made my fucking day. And at 36 seconds that looks suspiciously like the Oublié Cathedral.

I'm completely fine with a spiritual sequel to Eternal Darkness. Said crowndfunding, maybe Kickstarter. I'd pledge to that, though I'd want more footage and info.
I really do need to get around to playing more Eternal Darkness. They should do an HD rerelease.
-
i thought the cathedril and the giant eye in the wall were both very eternal darkness-y. It's now been confirmed that it's coming to both PC and wii u so that's awesome. I notice how a lot of titles are pc and wii u only nowadays. Not the blockbuster ones but a lot of the newly announced ones
-
That's because the PS4 hasn't got a release date yet, and the Xbox "720" has yet to be announced–though it will on May 21st. Once they have release dates set in stone, you'll hear titles out the yin-yang being announced for them.
It will all start at E3.
-
Well since it's going to be on PC they should release an HD version of Eternal Darkness on it too. Please :3
Also, finally the WiiU gets another game.
-

Source? And yeah, by the time they actually get this thing developed it will surely land on PS4 etc. I am 100% willing to throw down on crowdfunding for this, if they would actually tell us when/where. Some site says May 6 but who knows.
Edit: I found the cached page for their previous official website, which was going to be a direct sequel (instead of 'spiritual'), probably until they couldn't get the rights. I don't know if I necessarily trust any of the release-related information from that though.
-
You guys should get Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
It's fucking awesome!

A](http://mynintendonews.com/2013/05/03/shadow-of-the-eternal-confirmed-for-wii-u/)nd yeah i guess that is right. E3 will chnage everything. Although seeing as how i see my gaming days numbered in the near future, wii u may be my only next-gen console for a long while so the more the merrier for me

That review has renewed my interest in gaming as a medium. I love the approach.
15 bucks eh? -
surprisingly, rev3 games. does really good reviews. Adam Sessler nailed it with his Bioshock Infinite review.
-
Are we talking like TechTV era X-play?
-
Adam Sessler is a great-great man. He's the only reason I ever watched G4tv.
-
What's with all this Adam Sessler love lately? A few years ago most people hated him, now he's considered one of the best reviewers ever?
-
I'm honestly still not a fan of him.
-
Papers pls makes me feel selfish and evil and suprised that comparing stuff can get you into the "flow".
The beta is still free people should try it and feel bad afterwards :D -

In case anyone cares what the game looks like (with Albert Chestbreach's delightful voice): -
This post is deleted!

the titles xD especially "Earth Devastating B-rank Girlfriend", not sure what to think of the b-rank…

Looks like EA has the license to make Star Wars games from Disney. Makes sense since they still have SWTOR.

In case you had any faith left in Square Enix http://www.siliconera.com/2013/05/13/square-enix-to-focus-on-smartphone-games-as-part-of-future-strategy/

Seriously? I mean I don't really have faith anymore but I feel compelled to say FML anyway.

And because Disney can't publish games people actually want.

Thankfully I don't.
It's sad to see a Kingdom Hearts sequel that is still sooooo far off… but that's about the ONLY interest I have in the company. Barring awesome published titles like Hitman and Tomb Raider... but the company thinks those were some kind of failure.. which is retarded.
Anyways, I have absolutely NO hopes for a Final Fantasy title at this point. Those wonderful games of the past are, well, a thing of the past. it was a time and a place... and it's over for me.

Yoshi-P, the big guy who took over XIV's 2.0 revamp, is actually cool as hell and transparent in what they're doing. Really open and fun guy who loves MMOs and has experience in being a dedicated player and he's turned it around a hell of a lot from what it used to be
He's also really involved in the community and basically everything the game needed in a director to even hope to try to recover
As hilarious as it is
FFXIV 2.0 has the only genuinely cool public person in Square left on it
idk i kinda love the guy and it's more him than square, but he's at least the best decision they've made in years and what he's been doing with the ffxiv team is pretty impressive
-
I'm not sure FFXIV is saveable no matter what sort of witchcraft is used. A lot of the loyal fanbase has already given up on it. I loved FFXI a lot and even gave FFXIV two chances, both of which flopped. I'd have to hear some pretty incredible things to give it a third attempt, and I don't really have as much time to play games like that anymore anyway.
As for single player FF games, FFXIII changed the way I view the series. I used to have the games preordered and I'd buy them the day it was released… right up until that disappointment. I haven't given up on the series or anything, but now I won't touch a new iteration of it until I hear that it's actually deserving of my money.
My love affair with Square ended a long time ago, but I still don't really have anything against them. If they make a good new game I'll give them my money... after I know that it's actually a good game.
-
Well at least we're getting Bravely Default which is worth something…and goddammit, I wish they would do something with the Ogre/Tactics Ogre franchise. I mean they fricken spent money it, GODDAMMIT SQUARE DO SOMETHING WITH IT! The Tactics Ogre remake was the best thing to come out of Square for the past fear years. (I know, this is stupid wishful thinking)
-
well this is on it's way
did anyone here own the original. I did and i remember it being hard as
-
I'm getting kind of tired of Valve pussyfooting around, but this is kind of interesting to me. There's a Twitter account called BreenGrub, as in Breen, the sort of villain from HL2. It tweeted from May 31 to June 1 last year and they stopped. On the 14th, Marc Laidlaw, who wrote much of the story of the HL games, tweeted
@Marc:
I'm worried about Dr. Breen. We haven't heard from him in a while. https://twitter.com/BreenGrub
Then on the 15th, the BreenGrub account started tweeting again, making reference to a world that the Vortigaunts know the name of but not him, and various other things. Its last tweet as of now is
@BreenGrub:
A scuttling, a scrabbling, I fear I have said too much…if they come close, sensing activity, I will have to seek silence again.

So, Insomniac's Fuse is releasing today to mediocre reviews and little to no press.
Their general downward trajectory in the past few years has me worried that we're going to be seeing some significant layoffs there in the near future.

Insomniac's what? By the way, whatever happened to that 'Overstrike' game they were making that looked to have a cool artstyle and an overall positive response.

A quick, cursory Google search reveals that Fuse is simply what Overstrike was re-branded to, at least for its U.S. release. Which makes your post a rather amusingly apt demonstration of Moog's very point, unless you were doing so intentionally.

To be honest, and this may sound like a load of BS, I think people are simply…tired of the current-gen; I know I am, to some degree. I think hype, profit, and the like will pick up at the end of this year, when the next-gen consoles and games are released.
Heck... I think even the developers are tired of this gen, excluding a few. A lot of the games that have been released this year for console have been mediocre to "meh" at best. Games like God of War: Ascension, Gears of War: Judgement etc. seem like mere cash grab games, stories that didn't even need to be told, to milk series of all they have before next-gen hits.
-
There are always mediocre cash grabs though. I thought last year was a lot worse than this year. I mean, we were talking about XCom or Dishonored as GotY because there was really a whole lot of nothing.
This year has already seen games like Tomb Raider and Fire Emblem, and though I haven't played them I've heard good things about Ni no Kuni, Luigi's Mansion, Walking Dead, Etrian Odyssey IV, and Bioshock Infinite (but that one's been more mixed). And we'll still see games like GTA V, Watch Dogs, Saints Row IV (weird that all 3 are open world action games), and that awesome looking South Park RPG. And there are others getting a lot of hype like The Last of Us, the Elder Scrolls MMO, Pikmin 3, Beyond: Two Souls, etc. Granted that Pikmin 3 and Watch Dogs qualify as next gen titles, though.
Long story short, I think this year has been and looks to be a lot stronger than last year.

Long story short, I think this year has been and looks to be a lot stronger than last year.
Last year also had the walking dead, but also journey, amalur, asura's wrath, Devil Survivor 2, Mass Effect 3(and I mention this as an anti ending guy), graces f, xenoblade chronicles, Fez, Gravity Rush, spec ops: the line, Guild Wars 2, FTL, Tokyo Jungle, Unfinished Swan, Hotline Miami, ZE: Virtue's last Reward, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, etc etc.
2012 was pretty solid in my opinion. If it seemed disappointing it probably comes from a lot of really really big titles arguably ending not delivering on their expectations like Mass Effect 3, Assassins Creed 3, diablo 3 or darksiders 2. But I feel it definitely had it's fair share of real gems.
To me this year and last year seem about the same regarding quality. Just that it's harder and harder to not grow more jaded with every year. People actually have to start spending effort to find new games they like.
