Neat, but very stupid to assume it's blatant plagiarism if anyone has. Oda before has mentioned things he admires and loves (Tim Burton being one of his favourite movie makers) and it's no surprise he'd be influenced by those things. All of these comparisions just seem really pointless :/

Doke no Buggy

Now this may be a bit of a stretch but this is quite a famous song and KISS is huge in Japan (or was huge).

The lyrics in the first stanza of "I Love it Loud" are: "Stand up, you don't have to be afraid, get down - love is like a hurricane."

So I think the whole "love is like a hurricane" theme that Sanji, Nyon and Hancock say somewhat often comes from this song.

What's even more funny is that Puar is often described as a cross between a cat and rabbit, and Gonbe is a rabbit that thinks he's a cat. It also fits perfectly with how Dragon Ball inspired Oda.

Hey all, I was just thinking of some possible inspirations for Baby 5.

The first one is Cherry Darling (The stripper with the machine gun instead of a leg) from the movie Planet Terror

And the other one I thought of was the comic/movie character Tank Girl. She smokes, she loves weapons, and her goggles are very familiar.

I think Luhrmann has a knack for adapting theatre and zany characterization. I enjoyed Strictly Ballroom. I thought Australia was a bore. Yet, it was a huge box office hit in Europe. I know he has others in between, but to me, those two were his high and low; in that order. I'm looking forward to The Great Gatsby.

That's interesting but I'm still confused as to how this resembles Red Hawk.

This idea has been briefly mentioned, but I believe that Oda’s theme basis for the upcoming arc will be Lewis Carroll’s books ‘Alice's Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking-Glass’. In my opinion Oda has already given us a lot of hints!!
Here are a few parallels that I have noticed so far:

Big Mom- bears many similarities to the Queen of Hearts, including:
-A very quick temper, is fast to sentence people to death
-A great love for sweets
-Queen of Hearts' subjects are mainly animals (ie- SMILE armies)
Big Mom is also fond of tea parties which feature prominently in ‘Alice's Adventures in Wonderland’.
Underworld- “Wonderland”. In the books, Wonderland was accessed via a rabbit hole and seemed like a strange underworld.
Playing Cards- ‘Alice's Adventures in Wonderland’ uses playing cards as imagery throughout the story. The sequel ‘Through the Looking-Glass’ does a similar thing using a game of chess.
Gigantism via food- Alice inadvertently eats cake which causes her to grow to giant size. There is also a drink which causes Alice to shrink, and a mushroom which also affects size. In Carroll’s books, this also relates to position in the food chain and fear of being eaten, which could obviously relate to Big Mom.
Law- Could easily be compared to the Knave of Hearts, who is later made to stand trial for stealing the Queen’s Tarts (ie- stealing the supply of SMILEs from Big Mom?).
Doflamingo- The Queen of Hearts plays Croquet using flamingos in place of mallets.
Buffalo- Looks very much like the grinning Cheshire cat with a floating ability.
Bobin- Looks quite like Tweedledum or Tweedledee.
Pekoms- Seems quite similar to the Mock Turtle, who is seen with a Gryphon (which has Lion parts too).
Tomago- Alice meets Humpty Dumpty in ‘Through the Looking-Glass’.

On top of these similarities, Carroll used a lot of literary techniques that Oda himself uses such as symbolism, wordplay/puns, cultural references and nonsensical humor. Obviously these are early signs and a lot more parallels will be shown I’m sure. There are probably a lot that I have missed!

The phone snails or transponders snails or whatever, i have a theory that oda was insipired to create these due to a frenchman who was convinced that after a male and female snail mated, they could communicate telepathically. to test this theory he glued 24 male snales on a sort of dish and 24 females on other dishes. He sent the males to new york and kept the females in France. And he basically thought that if he wiggled the snails in new york the mate of that snail would wiggle just the same. He called it the passic lalinic sympathetic compass, using escargothic vibration. He actually got someone to fund this. And of course it didn't work. I duno if its just oda's fantasy or he heard of this guy, that make him end up on transponder snail. Just something to think about :)

I believe this question was adressed many pages ago, if not on this thread somewhere else on the forum.
Anyway, while that would be a valid opinion Den Den Mushi is just a simple pun in japanese.

The name comes from the Japanese word "Dendenmushi (でんでんむし)" which means snail. Oda just uses different Kanji with the same pronunciation to create an entirely new name. 電/でん/den means electric, 伝/でん/den refers to communication, and 虫/むし/mushi as snails are generally considered bugs in Japan. The Japanese word for phone "電話/でんわ/denwa" also begins with the kanji 電.
