Worst game in existance of DS games: Flower Sun and Rain. My most wasted 5 euro ever. :U
Huh. What was so bad about it? I noticed it was a Grasshoppers Inc. game before and thought about maybe purchasing it.
-
Just isn't my type of game. I disliked the gameplay, found the 'puzzles' boring and the graphics were meuh. The story was the most interesting part of the game but I just didn't like it enough to keep playing it. I only bought it randomly because it was cheap. You might like it, I don't know. I was just saying that for me it was the worst I've ever played and I played quite a lot games.
-
I've always been interested in it being a Grasshopper fan.
-
It's okay. Flower, Sun, and Rain is Suda51's take on old school adventure games essentially. The puzzles are pretty cryptic and basically require GameFAQs to be open as you play most of it (though admittedly the first puzzle is the worst about this since it requires a little bit of knowledge on Japanese culture).
-
I didn't find the puzzles difficult or too easy, but boring xD; I'll gladly send it to someone who wants it (dunno if there are regions for DS games but my DSi plays a game from the US with no problems so doubt there will be trouble) when I do have change to spare~ I'll delete my save too so it'd be like.. brand new! :') Better for it to go to someone who wants it than rot in my game case! :D
Another game I was disappointed was Civilization Revolution, again for the DS, but only because I was a huuuuge Age of Empires fan and thought it'd be like that. Well… it wasn't. It was like a game I played online and quit because it got repetitive. I was mortified to see that it was the same. :C
-
I didn't even know Civ Rev got ported to the 3DS. I played it on the PS3 and it was pretty cool, it was actually the game that got me into the Civilization series.
-
Dunno if it got ported to the 3DS. I only have a DSi for now.. My black, Zelda 3DS has to wait to be purchased. :<
-

Standard DS games are region free.
And I'll pass on that offer since I've beaten it before and don't really feel like playing it again so… -

Being a Suda51 fan and having wanting to try it I'll gladly take it off your hands! I got a 3DS XL last year so I still got a lot of the DS library to get caught up on.
-
Alrighty~! :3 Just PM me your info and I'll send it as soon as I have cash available (which will be next month O: ). Also if you are in the US, I can just send it over to you from there (in April) That way it'll take waaaaay less to reach you! :3
-
I have actually played this.
The controls are nowhere near as good as the player makes it look.
-
@RobbyBevard:

Would you believe that that was one of my favorite games as a kid? And I actually beat it.

We're dumb as children and willing to replay stuff over and over.

That's just fine, I know how crazy shipping prices can be. If there's a convenient way for you to receive money I'll gladly pay for the shipping when the time comes.

So apparently Yo! noid was originally a game about a magical ninja… remade into a game about Domino's Pizza mascot...
I... what?
I hope you got your Domino's Pizza coupon with the game Robby and Nobodyman. :ninja:

It was a lot less stupid too. And every level has a different boss to boot.
-
Speaking of licensed games, anyone remember the game where you played as the 7up dot? I liked it as a kid but something tells me it would be a tad crappy now.
-

I wasn't seeing what was so bad about this until those long stretches where you get stuck in PIZZA PURGATORY. Jeez.

You mean Cool Spot for the SNES? Yup, I remember it, and it's still quite playable now, actually (the farthest I've gotten is the bathtub stage, which is either stage 4 or 5)…
-

Christ…that mini game lasted for 2 damn minutes. It lasted longer the first stage (with the actual platforming). That alone makes the game sound dreadfully brutal.

Well, that was in the original ninja game too.
And once you get the hang of it, it's pretty interesting and fairly easy.
….Oh great. I've become the Yo Noid apologist. Dear god.
-
Well even objectively bad games can still have redeeming features or things that aren't as bad as anyone says they are.
-
Captain Planet for NES
Me and best mate never got further than second fuckin level. A disgrace.
-

Well, it has admittedly been a while since I played it, but…I dunno. I think if I played it today I'd still find it enjoyable.
And I never really had much trouble with the controls (except maybe the skateboard levels).
-
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's nothing wrong with liking bad games. I brielfy mentioned this earlier on in this thread but a good amount of games that would be on a hypothetical "Jay's top whatever favorite games" list would contain a lot of…not perfect games lets say.
-
It's amusing how many NES games were bad purely for their difficulty. NES games were fucking brutal. Kinda odd that games were exclusively for kids back then and were so hard, now they're more for adults and are way easier.
Not that I'm complaining. Screw old-school difficulty.
-
Well even objectively bad games can still have redeeming features or things that aren't as bad as anyone says they are.
Like Hoshi wo Miru Hito for example.
Yes I actualy sorta like it.
Also bad games or at least games that "aren't good" can be fun to criticise. I make a habbit of complaining about all the horrible design decisions in Yu Gi Oh Forbidden Memories quite often, especialy since few reviews mention any of them.
And I know that the original came out early in the PS1's lifetime so the card game's rules weren't set, however that doesn't excuse them from making the selection of usefull cards and actualy good, top tier cards so limited, to the point where every single player will gradualy evolve to having their deck based on exactly one specific fusion monster for there are no better ones, or no alternatives. Also the fact that there are no monsters effects of any kind not only dumb down the game to a rather brainless brawl based on numbers and numbers alone is bad enough, but the fact is 90 % of the cards are useless bottom tier junk that you won't be needing if you make it past the first five duels.
Also, the drop system can go fuck itself in hell while having it's fucking anus rended to pieces with barbed wire sprayed with acid and tiny microbes of carnivorous metal spiked balls that spontaneously grow their spikes hundreds of times their original size while also exploding.
Yet I've beat it like six times.
Still, Hoshi was a lot more fun. A lot less bullshit by the end too, when the final areas are designed as mazes where the goal is to avoid encounters.

Just beat that game about a month ago after having it for about 12 years.

I wonder what deal was in Forbiden Memories where cards costed 99999999999999999999999999 starchips, when you can earn a total of 9 per battle(I frogt the exact amount, but my guesses are no exageration).
-
I actually liked Operation Darkness and it was universally bashed as a god awful game. But I still liked it
Now that I look at it, Operation Darkness really looks embarrassing (although it was one of the 360's earlier titles) since it's on the same console that brought us Vanquish and Skyrim. It looks like a slightly upgraded wii/PS2 game. Ugly…ugly game with a terrible interface, but I still enjoyed the game immensely. Where else can you play a tactics game as a werewolf squad killing off vampire nazis? As well as Hitler having necromancy powers and can summon dragons. Yep...someone in Japan had to think of this up.

Apparently, I think Japan got some type of playstation accessory that made the game easier. I pretty much just used the 3 memory card trick to duplicate magic cards I already had to win the last bit.
Also, it's 5 stars you can earn per duel.
As for objectively bad games I like, there's Steambot Chronicles on the PS2 which has a lot of quirks, but I still enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the game.

I could have sworn that fans really liked Steambot Chronicles <_<

I don't interact with many people who have played Steambot Chronicles, so I wouldn't know. XD I did really enjoy Steambot Chronicles and the Disaster type games.
The controls are pretty awkward though and the combat never seemed particularly challenging. That's stuff I can think of off the top of my head.

The same deal where getting 50 consecutiv S Rank wins on Heishin will give you 50 completely useless cards.
The same deal why Seto and Nitemare have three-headed blue-eyes ultimate dragon.
The game designers were dicks.

Dark Magician + 3 Bright castles and a Black Pendant owns Blue-Eyes ultimate dragon.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Though it is absolute cruelty hearing people who won a Meteor B. Dragon on their first ten turns never to win one yourself. Managed to get Red-Eyes Black Dragon and Meteor Dragon though.

Fight the Low Meadow Mage in free duel. He should cough one up every hundred wins or so.
Thing is I never could get another Bright Castle.

175 wins and no Meteor B. Dragon. Magic Card -wise, I just used the 3-memory card trick and bought them at 600 starchips.

Every other game that I've ever spent cash money on, I've played to completion and, more often than not, platinum/100%.
…Except Bayonetta, which I put down and sold back after 30 minutes. Somehow, I'm totally fine with others in the genre (DMC, GoW, CV: LoS, etc.), but everything about Bayonetta was just completely off-putting and not fun at all. I wanted to like it, because all the reviews told me I should, but in the end I have no idea what people see in it. -
I know that I'll probably get killed for this, but the worst game I think I've ever played is New Super Mario Bros., and I've played some GBA Bratz game.
-
The ONLY 3 things I can say that is off putting of Bayonetta:
1.Character aesthetic/ Design
2.PS3 port.
3.Story Which one was it?
If it is anything else, I'd be astonished since it was a stellar game that pushed the whole "hack and slash/action" genre up a notch.
@somebody
I never really cared for the New Super Mario Bros. There is just something remarkably offputting about it from someone that grew up during the SNES era. The physics engine feels too…wierd. Not to mention the music sounds really lazy and uninspired. It still sticks in your head, but it just doesn't have the charm like the original (or SNES tracks).
PS...is there something happening with the forum that is making my posts look so...bizarre?
-
The three you mentioned, plus music, the dialogue and voice acting, really bad QTEs, and gameplay. WHAT NOW.
As I said, everyone else likes it, so I wanted to, but couldn't.

sob
Had almost the exact same experience. I could not stand that game. And like you, I'm a big fan of the genre.
-
Not to change opinions but maybe make it a little more understandable from where I believe the praise for bayonetta comes from.
Well firstly it's obviously a very sound game mechanically speaking, lot's of stuff to unlock, interesting challenges to meet and has a high skill ceiling.
Secondly unlike most other games of that genre bayonetta skips (bad) puzzle elements in favor of very action oriented pacing.
And thirdly probably the most controversial, bayonetta as a character is actually interesting. I'll borrow a quote from a friend here "It's very appealing how she owns her sexuality"(which led to an interesting explanation on why she thought that). As for me, I thought there was a little more to her than angry always shouting kratos and (although in my opinion likable) snarky/cool dante, which isn't exactly high praise but enough to for me to put it over most of the same genre. But then yeah dialog is bad(at times cringe inducing) as with a lot of games in this genre.
Also to note for people with good eyes there is a major difference between the ps3 and 360 version. If you're used to 60 frames the ps3 version can be quite rage inducing, input commands don't get recognized the right way(after playing the 360 version I had problems with the QTE events) and the game just isn't all that smooth. But then there are many who don't notice that stuff at all. I feel there is a similar thing going on regarding the divide of people who get screwed by 3d movies and people who are fine with it. -

S class wins. Not just A class ones.

Out of that, I probably had at least 125 S-class wins though you can also get it on A class wins if the drop list some guy ripped from the files is correct. Surprisingly, there is actually a hack for the rom version of the game to make it more balanced, so apparently, a lot of people seemed to have some sort of weird liking of this game.
-
Also, adding another one in answer to the OP.
Elnark no Zaihou. Which I beat today. Seriously, this game is impossible if you kill one of the randomly spawning enemies too many or too soon because then you can't use the secret warps that you need to use to move around the levels because your "virtue" bar is too much on the dark/light side.

I was surprised to find active threads about the game from at least 09. That's a full seven years after the US release.
But you should keep on with this. I know the drop system is weird and bizzare to the point where it makes you paranoid if you should change to another opponent in Free Duel mode cause this guy you've been pummeling for the last hour might drop something actualy worth a damn in the next duel ! Or the next…..or the next.....
It's like it was designed to foster schizophrenia or something.

Well, I don't plan on going back to the game since I've already beaten it, but I was kinda able to fuse the Meteor B. Dragon after getting Meteor Dragon from the Meadow Mage and Red Eyes B. Dragon from Jono 2.
