@The:
Poison should be able to destroy metal (steel).
Magellan did it in One Piece. :ninja:
Uh no. By that logic, Flying 2x Electric, Electric 2x Ground, Fire 2x Flying. and Ground 2x Water because that's how Naruto lays it out.
@RobbyBevard:
Ice is there to kill dragons. What more do you want out of it? If there was a thing ice was weak to that dragon was good against, it could have ben a triangle, but its not.
It also provide perfect neutral coverage when partnered with electric.
Steel is also there to balance out dragon, by being the only thing resistant to it.
In Generation I, the Dragon-type existed but was pretty useless as the only Dragon-type move at the time was Dragon Rage. Psychics, however, were running all over the the place and KOing pretty much everything. While that may be true now that the Dragon-type has more effective moves, the original purpose was Psychic balance.
And the Ice-type is in desperate need of Defensive attention like the Poison-type is in desperate need of Offensive attention. By the Ice-type being resistant only to itself and the Poison-type only being super-effective on Grass-types, it gives the idea of Defensive-oriented Ice-types and offensive-oriented Poison-types to be useless. The latter case especially of a trainer wants to focus on Poison-types for more than poisoning.
If anything, Poison should reclaim their superiority to Bug-types like back in Gen I, and perhaps control the aquatic Water-type population as well. Other possible types it can control could be Ground, Fighting, or Dragon, but I doubt that'll work out. On top of that, Poison should be weak to Fire as many poisonous gases are flammable.
Ice could be resistant to Poison as, like a person previously mentioned, it is a hard substance like Rock and Steel, where Rock resists Poison and Steel is immune to it.
Ice being hardened water does mean that the Ice-type should resist the Water-type like the reverse is true too. Ice could be an anti-Dragon-type too because od the whole phenomenon where reptiles, like Dragons, are cold-blooded and need to stay warm away from Ice-types.
@RobbyBevard:
No, because making it super effective against that many things out of the blue would completely shake it up. It SHOULD be able to hurt one or two more things, but it doesn't. Its a decent defensive typing though, since it does block bug, grass, fight and other poison. (of course, grass sucks against nearly everything. Its probably the most screwed type… especially since water hurts most of the same things it does.)
Poison's use offensively is usually ongoing damage rather than the stab. Toxic will kill in what, 6 turns without any help.
Among the collection of types you mentioned, only Fighting is problematic. Bug and Grass are rarely used due to the number of types that resist them (Poison included), and the Poison-type is mostly used for inflicting the Poison status, which Poison-types are immune to.
