Disney's Star Wars

ZOMBIE VADER
My guess is still flashback. Unless they're making clones again. Or maybe this is all a big red herring to throw people off.
-
Vader Vader wouldn't make much sense. Maybe Anakin's force ghost.
I'm thinking an imposter if it's true ( I don't think it is, though). Haven't read the book in years, but I think in the book "The New Rebellion", the villain Kueller used the force to trick Luke into thinking Vader was appearing to him as a force ghost and tried to turn him.
-
It's Bizarro Vader.
The Emperor tried to duplicate Vader, just in case, but he didn't know jack about cloning.
So it was that Bizarro Vader was born–or--made. -
-
ZOMBIE VADER
I mean…I guess it could happen. There are zombies in the SW universe after all.
!
Personally I would actually be curious in a SW movie/show/whatever with zombies.
-
Well, look at the bright side. At least Red Letter Media will have whole new trilogy of bad Star Wars movies to rag on.
Nah, really, I hope these movies turn out good.
-
Well, look at the bright side. At least Red Letter Media will have whole new trilogy of bad Star Wars movies to rag on.
That is the bright side actually. I'm looking forward to it already.
-
In that case it is a win-win situation for everyone. If it turns out great, then hurrah! If it turns out god-awful, then at least it can be torn to shreds like the first three movies. One of life's simpler pleasures, I feel, is ripping on the SW prequels.
-
Well Vader can't come back, we saw his ghost after all, but its possible he could have done something else.
I'm just thinking back to his mentor sidious, who was formerly apprentice to plagueis, who was like many sith lords obsessed with immortality. If they really really wanted to push it, they could probably come up with some conceivable way for Vader to return. Even if a clone/lifeforce transplant/blablabla etc.
Chances are they won't get too technical with stuff regarding the force, or previous sith characters that wont hold any good bearing on this current story. Still it would be cool to see something from way way back have some relevance on current releases.
-
I think everyone is missing the point that it's not the plausibility that's horribly dumb. It's the very idea that's horribly dumb.
-
Maybe it'll be like the Gundam franshise and they'll have a NotVader a NotDeathStar and a NotSkywalker in every movie?
-
@Monkey:

I know, but then again these rumor's tend to have some hint of truth so I'm assuming by "bringing back Darth Vader from the dead" they really mean either as a force ghost or through flashbacks.
Then again seeing Hayden Christensen reprising the role as a force ghost sends an uneasy chill down my spine.

As I said on that article, Bill:
WHAT ABOUT CHEWIE? -
I don't get the chewie thing. If he showed up, all that will happen is two seconds of "nyargh" dialogue before he disappears off screen again only to pop up randomly either firing a gun or hammering some broken machine. Essentially he's about as valuable as an ewok. lol
Fanbase: boo you dissed chewie boo.
Get the fuck over it.
Side note: didn't he get killed by nothing less than a MOON!?
-
That was in the expanded universe, though. We don't know how much they'll stick with it, if at all.
-

That's good enough for me. I just like Chewbacca.

And Brad Bird is officially out of the running. Ah well, that was a nom that was too good to be true anyway.
I guess I'm gonna have to do it now.

Brad Bird is too good for Star Wars anyway. If anything, it's still possible he'll do a Star Wars film just not this upcoming one. He might still might do a film in the future so he's not not completely out of the running.

Wow 16 pages mostly read.
One thing I have not seen people speculating on is with Lucas selling the franchise to someone he could trust and donating most of the money to charity … I get the Steve Jobs vibe from Lucas.
Especially with it all done suddenly and behind closed doors ... Lucas might be doing this as he could be very very sick.
-
I've already heard people starting rumors that he's ill, but I have no reason to believe that right now. 4 Billion is incomprehensible to most of us, but like a friend of mine said, "that's like walking around change for George." A wealthy dude doesn't have to be ill to want to donate money. And it really wasn't all that sudden, as Lucas and Disney have been working closely together for years, and this was clearly planned out years in advance.
-
I know it's all speculation at the moment - but it does seem like the most believable scenarios. I don't say that lightly or cruely either I just think it would make sense as bad as the prequels were he would be missed.

Empire's screenwriter back?
These movies will be best movies.

my god…I wonder if the Ewoks were his idea or Lucas'. Damn those Ewoks, not nearly as obnoxious as Gungans...but my god.
-
Why does everyone point at the Ewoks as the problem in Jedi, when they weren't? Yeah, wookies would have been better than an obvious marketing ploy, but… they were hardly the defining problem of the film.
The promise of the first picture, the depth of the second... All dropped for cutesy revelations, cutesy unbelievable action... and worst of all, an Emperor who was too stupid to win. A repeat of the the big plot obstacle from the first movie (death star part 2!) And the Emperor was embarrassing. HE LITERALLY lost the thing single-handedly. Every time Luke started to get angry and vengeful. Every time he started to turn to the dark side of the force, the big-mouth Emperor would LITERALLY rub his hands together like Snidely Whiplash and say: "That's it, Luke. Turn to the dark side of the force!" At which point, Luke would do a mental double take and remind himself -- visually, on camera -- that turning to the dark side was a bad idea. And it continued like that ad nauseum.
Plus, plot points are just dropped to expediate things (Since Lucas decided there wasn't going to be a part 7 after all.) Luke's character arc skipped a step to get him to "want to redeem dad." Look at him at the end of Empire and the start of Jedi, doesn't it seem like he changed a fair bit in there? And then Leia is Luke's sister! Not only a copout on the "there is another" thread, but a huge copout cheat where the love triangle was concerned as well.
Add in Fisher being stoned and Ford being bored during filming...
No, Ewoks weren't the problem. You could replace them with 6 foot tall Wookies and the same story beats and people would then have no problems with them... and the rest of the flaws would stick out even more.
There was other cool stuff in the movie. The Jabba's palace stuff was generally pretty good, and the speeder bike chase and such, but... it had major third act problems.
I dunno. I guess it's kind of like poking a stick at Jar Jar as the source of all PM's flaws even though he was the least of them... just the most immediately visible.
-
Luke be like "I am a jedi, like my father before me" and casts his saber aside. Dude … WTF! Refusing the dark side doesnt mean dropping your guard against the emperor. Unless he simply thought it was merely an old dude and a like hell he could shoot lighting.
But Vader dropping Emperor was the greatest. And not a single change really affected me until No No No was added in. "Shut up, Vader, I'm trying to fry him," thought The Emperor as Vader screamed "no" the second time around. Little did he know that his apprentice was voicing his dissaproval with the situation and was becoming rather pissed off at being ignored.
Anyways, seems like Disney is taking this seriously. But people praise them too much for The Avengers. Let's not forget John Carter, Prince of Persia and the last POC movie. Though the first two seemed like attempts to recreate POT.
-
Keep in mind that the same guy wrote Return of the Jedi.
This is a weak point, I mean does Gary Kurtz leaving, and Lucas gaining total supreme creative control over the director ring any bells? If anything Kasdan's writing saved Return of Jedi from becoming a total wreck. Kasdan was following Lucas story, and Lucas had a lot of input over the script. Whatever gripes you have with Jedi can be leveled at Lucas. I mean do you know the original story according to Kurtz for Return of Jedi was to be much darker.

The Ewoks were Lucas's idea, he originally had them in mind for earlier films but I think the low budget of first film prevented him from implementing them.

So was Luke being able to communicate with her through the force at the end of Empire not a foreshadowing of her having some sort of connection to the Skywalker family?
-

That was a showing of Luke having Jedi powers. Vader was able to sense Obi-Wan from across the death star and there was no blood relation. And its pretty well documented fact, not speculation, that "there is another" was originally going to be introduced in the follow up trilogy… up until the point Lucas decided 6 was far enough and that'd be the end of it, so it got crunched onto Leia.
Pre~tty sure if they'd planned on them being siblings by the time that movie was wrapping up they would have edited out the kiss at the start of it, or never filmed it at all.
-
Return of the Jedi was actually my favorite of them, LOL.
Okay, maybe Empire was technically better, but I don't care, ROTJ FOR LIFE!!!

I suppose it doesn't exactly indicate a family connection, but at the very least a force connection.
It's interesting to hear that the story may have led to something entirely different had he opted for more chapters. We might've had Star Wars movies leading up all the way to when the prequels started being released.
-
When I posted the news of Lawrence Kasdan I was kinda surprised with folks reactions, I expected a more mixed response but instead folks everywhere are like "YAY! THE GUY WHO WROTE THE BEST STAR WARS MOVIE!"
Having seen a lot of Kasdan's work I can say I'm very lukewarm, he hasn't written or directed anything I really enjoyed( I really hated Darling Companion, French Kiss) and didn't care for Mumford.
I did really enjoy his earlier work like Body Heat and the Big Chill, but I'm afraid his work now is mostly stinkers. Honestly, I'm a bit worried(sure he's a level up as writer compared to Lucas but still..)
Most folks here I bet haven't even seen Kasdan's work outside Star Wars and Indiana Jones, especially his modern work.
-
Yes Bill, but you have lukewarm reactions to everything that isn't Batman.

Hm…don't know what to think about that. I'm still hoping that the TV series they were working on will see the light of day, it sounded cool.

So, it looks like it's gonna be Matthew Vaughn.
Thoughts?
-
Don't really care personally on who is directing, writing or anything.
I can't see how anyone could screw up Star Wars. I've never thought of Star Wars as having a riviting story in the first place. It was the first story I say that had some twist like "omg, he's my father" and other things that are all so damn common now its rediculous, but that is part of the reason I think so many people think Star Wars was so amazing.
It's like the book Treasure Island. Go and read it, its not too big a book. Even if you have never read it before it feels like you have 100 times in your life because 1000's of books use so many things that the book did in their stories.
To me star wars is like a giant fan fiction universe. I'm expecting to go to a movie see some jedi kick ass with the sweetest weapon ever invented, the lightsaber. Get to see some cool ships, and aliens and planets. That's about it. The stories are nothing to write home about.
Thus why I don't see how Disney or anyoen else could possibly screw this franchise up. Hell look at the video games and their 3 minute CG movies. They have more rivitting story in those 3 minutes than an entire movie does.

I never thought Star Wars was an amazing, artful work of cinema or anything, but it had the right mix of everything that makes a story fun, exciting, and memorable. They screwed up the prequels big time. There's always a some people who will defend them, but who are we kidding, they were just executed horribly, and could have been much better.
As for Vaughn, still a rumor, but, um, OK guess. It could be great, sometimes the best directors aren't the ones everyone thinks of first. I didn't really know what to think about Christopher Nolan directing Batman originally.

I think the prequels problem was only a couple things.
1. jar jar binks was annoying as heck
2. lucas is the worst love story writter ever created
3. we already knew how the story ended -

3. we already knew how the story endedYou're right about the first two, but I don't really think us knowing what happens in the future is really a problem. Otherwise I'd never enjoy adaptions. Some people have said that The Hobbit will suffer from the same problem, but I don't think it will.
This has been said over and over, but Lucas at that point had too big of a head to take any feedback to heart and nobody could tell him no. Rather than taking control of every aspect, he should have chosen some great people to work with and trust their judgement, which is what he was forced to do in the original movies. But it's already apparent that Disney is doing just that so I'm optimistic.
