His name is Momonga, not Mango. How dare you? How dare you?
How dare I (tangerine)? How dare you (Satsuma)!
Of course his (Mango) name is Momonga!

Surprised there's not a little more commentary about Nami taking charge of the mission and adapting on the fly. She might have been the star of this episode.
@Galaxy:
Finally watched the episode.
Pretty good stuff. I really have nothing to complain about. (Except for the lack of money)
Alpacachino is hilarious though, but too bad he isn't canon.
But…He IS a _cannon!
Ba-dum-tish!_ :ninja:
"Three-section Lariat", eh?
What a nice variation of Tekkai I must say. Nothing special though.
Anyways, good episode so far. :)
I have to say that this filler has been overall very well written. It almost, and I say almost, makes up for the terribleness of the Little East Blue filler. Only two episodes in and not only are the filler characters, filler villains, plot, and jokes far better than the last filler in the series, but you can actually feel like this is indeed a movie tie-in. This makes you WANT to watch Z even more. For someone back then who had no idea of what Strong World was about, for example, Little East Blue would in fact turn them off. (Chris Beveridge is a good example of that).
The only gripes I saw mentioned already that makes sense to me is Nami's idea for the Devil Fruit users out in the water and Franky being left on the boat… again. But I'm sure Franky will get some time next week since Nami told him to get over.
Overall, though, it was fun seeing Nami take charge. Even more so, Luffy acted in character all the time, Sanji's running joke made me laugh twice (always does), and Momonga gets some time to shine. Z was indirectly introduced here and the LLAMA. Oh my GOD the llama!
Great side story and I anticipate next week. Any filler that makes you excited to watch it is doing its job.
That was an alpaca! Don't sully the alpaca with a BEAM by comparing it to a llama!
I'd also like to show appreciation for Nami really taking charge. It felt completely in character and fleshed out her character just a bit more. Really, good job on this filler arc so far anime team.
I kept thinking that giant pirate daddy looks like Magellan little brother.
Also: SH desperately need a strategist (Where are Jinbe, when he is needed). Nami's plan is so illogical it hurts.
That was an alpaca! Don't sully the alpaca with a BEAM by comparing it to a llama!
Oh, yeah, I guess the name Alpacachino makes that obvious. Mah bad, mah bad.
What a fun and well done episode. Unlike Little East Blue, it actually feels connected and complementary to the movie, gets you excited to watch it.
Just some minor oddities (like Zoro seemingly flying, just so he wouldn't look bad beside Sanji's Sky Walk), but nothing big. And the alpaca is excellent.
I think my favorite part of the episode (aside from Alpacacino, of course) was when Shuzo hears Sanji's bounty and chuckles at him being a ''nobody''. It underlines my feelings that it's so unfair that all of the Straw Hats have bounties so much lower than Luffy. I know, bounties aren't power levels, but they're still an indication of overall standing in the series, and caharcters in-universe do use them as power levels.
Yeah, the bounty rises are long overdue. There was a recent scene in the manga where a certain character was surprised by Nami being able to do what she did having that ridiculous bounty. I think it's a little too late for a Strawhat to be underestimated.
I heard T-Bone's VA. He has a knack for dramatic speaking it seems.
@Miss:
So Momonga's been wearing the exact same clothes for over 27 years now. What a vile, vile man.
Naw, he's just like a cartoon character~
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I wonder what's up with Momonga and Shuzo though. Their scenes screamed "flashback incoming". Hrmr... Maybe next episode.
For a Deguchi episode, that was quite good. Sure, some of the tell-tale wonkiness in the animation is there at times, but the action is paced pretty well. However, the biggest strength is that the actual plot and writing are more One Piece-like than the "Little East Blue arc." My God, was that a piece of crap that even an good final battle couldn't elevate with the Amigo Pirates being possibly the weakest substitutes for the Strong World heavy possible. Looks like Toei took a hint from that stinkeroo and decided to make this movie tie-in actually tie in with the movie.
The only other nitpick I have regards Chopper being on that boat since he seems pretty useless there. Brook and Robin have long range abilities that actually make there presence there plausible (evidenced by this episode) along with being decoys. Franky being on the ship also makes sense because of his long-range capabilities and the still untested abilities of the Thousand Sunny to take out Navy ships.
I think the Alpaca with the bazooka fruit might be one of the best filler characters in the TV series so far. I also think this is the first filler that features a major canon antagonist given the showcasing of Momonga (unless you count Foxy in the Spa Island filler). Judging by the brief preview of the next episode we should be in for a treat animation-wise
Just some minor oddities (like Zoro seemingly flying, just so he wouldn't look bad beside Sanji's Sky Walk)
That looked like a somewhat major animation goof. If you look closely it seems Zoro us suppose to be running up the hull of the ship, but Zoro is placed to far away from the hull which actually makes it looks like he's sky-walking too.
I heard T-Bone's VA. He has a knack for dramatic speaking it seems.

If you're referring to Shuzo, he's actually voiced by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kōsei_Hirota while T-Bone is voiced by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomomichi_Nishimura.
Now give me money.
! The money part is a curse.

Nope, I was referring to the giant. Pans Fry or whatever his name is.
What's all this talk about the money? :wassat:
Anyway this filler arc isn't half bad. If it wasn't for the timing, I would actually kinda hope that it lasted a little longer. The alpaca was definitely highlight of the episode. Szuzo being longarm and using rokushiki is really awesome too. I just hope that Momonga doesn't left straw hats and Panz Fry go at the end of the arc for no reason. Lawful neutral marines are the best.
Aint seen the full episode, only the pics. But is that the Llama from the covers a few years back that Franky (or was it Usopp) was making?
Nice to see Nami's waver (I think) back too

No he's Shuzo's pet.
I like money.
Matt Damon should voice act for a OP character in the future
I (cantaloupe) always thought that one of the missing roles that the crew needed would be a strategist… but Nami appears to be more than capable to bask that helm.
If Nami is a strategist, Zoro can be a navigator. :ninja:
If Nami is a strategist, Zoro can be a navigator. :ninja:
What makes you so against the idea of Nami being a strategist? Nami is an intelligent gal.
Matt Damon is 42 years old

She is. But not today.
I have two major nitpicks:
I expect this kind of needlessly convoluted plans from Fairy Tail, not from OP, and certainly not from Nami. This filler arc actually is good….but this plan bugs me.
But that is writer's fault, not Nami's, I guess:ninja:
Awesome episode… Sanji's reaction to the marines not knowing who he is was just awesome.
And poor Shuzo is crazy fighting Momonga, Luffy, Sanji and Zoro on the same time
And Chopper could have stayed at Sunny. Why is he there again?
Her strategy would make more sense if Usopp and Chopper changed places. Since Usopp is doing pretty much nothing either, but his long range attacks would be useful out there, while Chopper could stay behind guarding the submarine.
I think Usopp was paired with Zoro, Sanji and Lilly just so he could have his little Elbaf moment.
Wow, that was a really good filler!
I appreciate that Nami worked out the strategy, it's just that putting the devil fruit users in there is not actually safe, otherwise it's pretty cool of her to take action.
I also really enjoy the brief part with Zoro and Sanji, it was cool, even if Zoro seemed to fly there, lol.
Then there's the alpaca, I feel like it's a shame he's wasted on filler, but so cool.
Shuzo is meh so far, but I didn't notice he was part of the longarm tribe before for some reason, also that's pretty cool usage of Tekkai.
Finally, Momonga, I think I really like his character now, even more than before, he's a cool marine.
I really appreciate the jabs at Sanji's bounty and poster, they were funny. If I were an anime-only viewer, I'd think this is actually part of the story, I really appreciate them trying to tie to the main plot with the tenryuubito and it's cool that's Shuzo has a connection to Momonga, it just feels that this whole thing is fairly well thought-out.
Yeah, this was great for filler.
Pretty cool Filler Arc I must say..
Just watch the preview of Episode 577 on Youtube, and holy crap Shuzo was able to stop Luffy's Bazooka with Armament Haki and Gear 2nd.. Isn't that a little too easy? Because come on.. It's one of Luffy strongest attack so far..
Filler Nami (or shall I say Nami created by those who are not-Oda) doesn't reflect the real thing. In a canon situation Im sure the arrangement for this strategy would have been different. Matt Damon also played a character who perfectly executed strategy.
Nope, I was referring to the giant. Pans Fry or whatever his name is.
Ah.
Yeah it's the same seiyu.
Will you pay me for this?

Which he could have in previous episode or next… Anyway there should have been someone who can deflect incoming cannonballs, and someone who can swim. At both groups. Instead all able people are in the sub...Good thing marines dind't try to sink distraction team. Filler Nami is not a strategist. But at least she made herself (kinda) important.
I want Nami to mention this later on to Jinbe and have him be like "WHAT KIND OF STRATEGY WAS THAT? YOU DIDN'T EVEN NAME IT".
Though putting all the DF users on one boat isn't that bad of a plan, since said boat was very far away from the actual fighting (Nami probably didn't want to risk someone else having to drag them out of the water if they fell in during the actual rescue). The problem was not putting someone without a DF on board as well, just in case (doubly so when you remember that this sea has rapidly-changing and very bad weather). Usopp or Nami herself would have been perfect there, since they both have good ranged attacks anyway. I'm betting its a plot point later on when this group needs saving when the giant raindrops come back.
Chopper was also unintentionally funny on the distraction team. Brook scares people with his soul, Robin clutches from afar, and . . . Chopper holds the binoculars.
Hah. Fun fact.
Alpacaino is voiced by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumi_Kasahara who also voiced http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Shalria.
From Celestial Dragon to Alpaca.
Money!
It's not a bad filler arc in the category of filler arcs, but I'm kinda confused how Momonga didn't change one bit after 2 years… not even a shorter or longer moustache or hair... just seems kinda weird in my opinion... and now that he's been shown he has to be cannon that way cos otherwise it'd be weird for him to change his looks later on...

If he didn't change for 25 years from Edd War to pre timeskip, I doubt he'd change in 2 years either.
Money!
Nice episode. Liked the nami's denden mushi having a red bad across its shell. Also was Sanji breaking the chains with kicks mean his stronger than a giant, because I don't see any reason lily's dad wouldn't have broken free by his own strength.
Best filler arc in One Piece if you can even call it that, the first episode the set up was kinda hmm but this one kicked ass and to think they gonna wrap it up soon because if Film Z comes out there will not be much of a reason to go on with this, is a shame i would say.
Meanwhile Naruto goes on and on with senseless boring fillers that have nothing to do with the main story while there so far behind the manga anyway, you really gotta give Toei credit for this also the Animation standard is so much better than fishman island while it's filler.
@Galaxy:

Well I guess that's true :/ maybe he's just one of those guys whose looks don't change after many years (they do exist I guess… like Eminem lol same face from day 1 :P ) though it's not entirely true, since 27 years ago he had a thinner mushy :p
!
Good filler for now,but I will wait till the end.But for now that's says a lot.
The only fillers in One piece I like were G-8 and episode 131,135 and 384(all of them are crew interactions and minor characters backstory,no lame plots with obnoxious brats and villains)
Maybe this filler arc will be one to.
really nice episode apart from those scenes of zoro flying :ninja: the best part for me was the voice luffy made whining about that the other plan "the sub shark" that sounded like more fun, i laughed my ass off xD
I feel like there's two plot holes in this filler:
1. Lily's devil fruit is a very "obvious" fruit that Oda would definitely want to use later.
2. Is there actually any proof that Momonga still is a Vice Admiral? Too lazy to check whether he as been addressed as Vice Admiral this episode, but there has been changes in the positions in the Navy lately, i.e there are 2 new admiral positions that might have been of interest for Momonga.
A good filler, though. The only one except G-8 that I won't skip if I ever rewatch the anime again.
EDIT: Just noticed that Momonga, indeed was addressed a Vice Admiral.
EDIT: After reflecting a bit, I don't think Momonga is an admiral; he's too nice for Sakazuki.
Okay, first of all I get what you meant with how these guys are shoehorned into the series the same way the Amigo pirates were while still being "connected" to the bad guys.
Also Nami literaly only put DF users on a miniboat for her "diversion" plan, which means if the boat turns over, they all die. Which, given the setup for this area, is rather dumb.
And how is it "safe" when they're the ones supposed to draw fire ?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh and I love how Momonga has no answer to "These people are dying of starvation and you're taking all their food" but "finders keepers".
I don't know about you guys, but I really like the filler so far. :D
Also the bit with them taking down the ship chains gave me a bit of a flashback to Warship Island, mostly because they even used the same background music if memory serves.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Not bad at all so far. I do think they realy ought to have picked a different hair colour for Lilly though, because that's the most....fillerish seeming aspect of her character.
Also praises for Shuzo actualy being competent unlike Colt. Still I do question the use of Momonga here when a filler marine would be enough to fill his role.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also do like the name but the goat/alpaca's voice seriously annoys me.

1. Every filler Devil Fruit, since day one, runs by Oda first. That was stated years ago. Besides, this arc has Oda's involvement, all the designs are his.
2. Again, they would never keep Momonga's position without Oda's approval. And would he change to what? Admiral?! Yeah, pretty sure Oda would tell them that.
That said, with the level of Oda's involvement lately, i can't believe anyone would expect the anime to commit this kind of mistakes.
Um…I might just be in an odd humor, but that was one of my favorite episodes of One Piece in the last year.
Most of the crew got involved, interactions were funny, pacing was good, the action scenes actually felt like there were multiple things happening at once, music selection was frickin' perfect...
Well played, filler people. Well played.
That's probably because it's not as stretched and doesn't have awkward stalling moments or random out of place filler inserts out of nowhere.

Hulu is fine. What we don't allow is linking to sites that have illegally ripped FUNimation's stream. That is how sites such as watchop are able to get the episodes up so quickly.
Pretty much have very little choice then to pick one of these though. Because my position has sort of been shafting me for ages, being youtube-country-video-blocking, no Amazon purchases of used items ever (and absolute silence whenever I tried asking about it) and an absolute lack of any oportunity to pay for OP. But I do see your point.
Also, even when Bleach will come out here soon I refuse to give Kubo Tite money.

Yeah that was my guess, but ty for confirming :)
Shuzo is from the long arm tribe:wub:. Pure win.
There are 2 things that I like the most about this filler.
Firstly the characters. Theyre so Flashy. And by that I mean all of the named characters. I
m all for the attire that everyone is using as well, its a breath of fresh air from the everlasting same clothes everyone uses.
Secondly, the use of Momonga. So what if its a filler. I would like to say that fillers such as this one and the amigo pirates that led to the New world film should have another connotation. Uhm they are not fillers per say, yet they do not appear in the manga version. Maybe we should call them Movie leaders.
Let's see….yep, this was a good episode.
Pacing was good, and there were the classic OP gags. Think my favorite was Sanji's bounty poster, ha.
I liked that Nami took charge and made a plan (and of course, Luffy screws things up), and because of the seperation, everyone had their moments and lots of things were going on all at once. Shuzo and Panz Fry are wacky, enjoyable characters.
And of course, Momonga appearing is welcome any day.
But there were some bumps......some of the art was a little off (Usopp looked really off around the 5:38 mark), and Shuzo attacking Lily looked flat as all hell.

Cause that ain't what I saw

No, when he's….geppou?ing all over the place to get at her, and it looked like there was an invisible barrier in between them.

Still, weird how she didn't respond to that at all. :P
It doesn't make sense. Luffy has a 400M bounty. The giants has 300+. Momonga is vice. And the guy is alone (cuss besides that goat the rest is fodder) and is unimpressed,…..so either he must have like a 600M bounty or his reaction is just out of place.

Heh, it's that part of the series where you go big or go home. But I think Toei is getting a little carried away with the bounties….I mean, Luffy has 400M, but 7/9 of his crew have bounties under 100M, and they're all dangerous in their own right.
....Then again, all the Straw Hats sans Luffy need a bounty adjustment to make a 300M giant (for stealing food) more believable.
my little pony is for kids and completely juvenile! the characters are annoying and cliche!
