looks like theres still a announcement for Viz or SJA, according to the new SJA issue.

Here's looking forward to SDCC then.
-
In other news one piece volume 63 debuted at #5 on the new York times best sellers list for manga.
-
The Android app is now available, go use it!
For some reason there's no tablet support and I can't find Hunter X Hunter on it. Works really well though, easily read my 3 free volumes of Toriko on it and I'll probably read alpha on it from now on.
TWO new SJ ALPHA series announced AT SDCC! Takama-ga-hara & Blue Exorcist!
Go express your disappointment we're not getting Assassination Classroom!

I don't know if anyone has seen this yet but ICv2 released the top 25 properties for spring of 2012:
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/23517.htmlOne Piece is 15th
Also here is the top 10 shonen:

Yesss!
Was it ever on the list before? And I wonder if they count digital sales because I've been racking up on digital one piece.
Edit: one piece is 9th for its 3rd week on the new York times best sellers list
-
I know it was higher on the list the year of the speed-up.
If I recall correctly…..One Piece placed higher last year.
I'm surprised Death Note is still outselling One Piece. 63 volume ongoing series can't beat a 12 volume series that ended 5 years ago in the US.

Wow that really does say alot.
I know this spiel has been said a million times already but, first impressions really are everything. Bad exposure really has wrecked this series.
Well we should be glad it hasn't fallen to obscurity, as long as I'm able to collect this series to the end I will be happy. :)

i read vol. 63 over the last week. pretty happy with it. reading other threads however seems the fish-man island arc gets no love, madness

Rumor is it reads better in bulk.

hmm, it seems i dont share much of the same opnions as this forum. i think thriller bark is the worst arc and probably the only one id really say i enjoyed no part of. yet that seems pretty beloved on here.
pretty excited we're getting 64 n 65 by the end of the year though.

waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait…wait...are you saying the arc that you dislike is Sabaody Archipelago? Is so then yes, your opinion differs heavily from the vast majority of this forum. Including mine. But hey, that's not such a bad thing. Variety...spice of life and all that. I personally put the Baratie arc on a much higher pedestal than the average Arlong Park member. [h=3][/h]

I Assumed me thought that the part with zoro was on sabaody.

Baratie arc is a solid arc that is simply overshadowed by the other arcs of the series.
You had…
-Zeff's speech about "Luffy's spear" (determination), great speech
-Mihawk's fight against Zoro
-Mihawk's speech to Zoro & Luffy, another great, memorable speech; gave people perspective of just how hard becoming Pirate King would be for Luffy, and ultimate swordsman for Zoro.
-Luffy battled particularly fiercely against Don Krieg. He drove his fist into a spiked shield... got impaled with poisonous spears... I mean dang son.
-Krieg's ship was cool as hell. Also it showed just what kind of place the Grand Line was. Only for it to be cut up in one slice by Mihawk.
-Touching flashback but hey that's a given in this series
-One of the best farewells. And you had other stuff like "Welcome to the restaurant, you bastards!" by Patty (not sure if that's the exact line), stuff like that. Makes ya wonder if Oda worked in a restaurant in his youth and wanted to channel his dislike for them through One Piece by having characters be able to say stuff like that to customers.
-
When you think about it, Mihawk following Krieg all the way from the Grand Line just to destroy the last ship, only then to go back to the Grand Line on a piece of driftwood seems quite ridiculous.
-
it's because Mihawk is a bawse
-
I find it hard to think about Thriller Bark except in two discrete parts: HAPPY FUN TIME ONE PIECE CREW ADVENTUREZ, which is the first half with all the exploration and the split-off Nami/Chopper/Usopp crew, all of which is some of the most dreadful stuff in One Piece. Then the crew starts fighting Oars, and it's pretty damned good.

Was doing some searching on Amazon
Volume 64 - September 2012
Volume 65 - November 2012
Volume 66 - March 2013Seems we're going back to 4 month waits between volumes. Catching up to fall behind again? Weird lol Maybe they're trying to force more people to subscribe to Alpha? Don't know if that would really work. I know regardless I won't subscribe to Alpha as long as it remains online only. I just don't like that you can't access it anytime you're away from an internet connection.
Naruto is going to 1 volume every 3 months, matching Japanese release rate which does make sense. 1 every 4 months is too slow. We fall behind with every volume that comes out. Of course to Viz One Piece is a second class manga, so I guess we can't expect it to be treated the same as Naruto and Bleach. Bleach still has a volume coming out every month straight through February…..ironically it will be the closest to the Japanese volume release even though it was the last to catch up.
Oddly enough, Bakuman is getting 1 volume every month up until volume 17, then taking a 3 month break before volume 18 comes out. 19 and 20 are coming out at a slow rate. They tend to slow series down when they get close to the end to milk them for all their worth, like FMA.
On the upside
Hunter x Hunter 28 - September 2012
Hunter x Hunter 29 - January 2013
Hunter x Hunter 30 - May 2013 -
Now I have to wait until November to get volume 65 in the app… Plus theyre doing simultaneous digital/physical releases so gn readers don't feel left out... Ugh

I swear to god the wallpaper in Vongola's room must be made of spreadsheets

-
So much for Viz releases catching up to Japanese. Oh well, as long as they maintain the quality and keep going with the series.
-
Does anyone know the reason why they are holding back the english releases? We were getting one volume every two months, and now we'll have to wait 4 months for volume 66…
-

I'm not complaining, three years ago we were waiting for the end of Alabasta to be released.
-
As I've said in the past, being five volumes behind is a lot better than being thirty-five volumes behind.
There is the possibility that that's just a preliminary date, though. There were a few instances where the final release was moved forward compared to the dates initially given online (and even in the next volume previews).

Volume 65 cover.
Looks a little too bright to me.

Covers on Amazon:
The one you posted seems to be oversaturated, looks like the actual cover is slightly brighter than Japanese but not THAT much. -
I wish Viz had dropped the annoyingly big lettering / numbering when they did the speed-up. Still covers too much of the artwork. It's a shame they felt the need to do uniform numbering for One Piece, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball, YuYu Hakusho, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Bleach, etc. …. all the series that they acquired early on.
Recent series like Bakuman, Toriko, etc. keep numbering similar to the original Japanese.
The only series that really benefited from the big numbering is Bleach....original title / number on the Japanese covers is pretty ugly imo and the broken English titles for his volumes being printed in big bold letters certainly doesn't look great. Course it doesn't matter since I don't like Bleach XD

Relevant:
haha loved that episode
Anyway how well do you guys think volume 64 will do? What if we tried to make this one sell exceptionally well (like gangbusters well), so it can reach the top of the charts for at least one time. I know its probably expecting to much but if possible clean out your local book store of copy's lol.

I think that's the case with all the other covers. I know that do it with _Naruto_ for sure.

Viz's manga app just got an update and suports 7inch tablets now. About time.
Now if they can work on 10 inch support im all set.
-
And yet still nothin' for Kindles. Funny, you'd think they'd be made for this sorta thing…
-
Got a question about the Viz translations. See, I only own a few volumes, and was planning to buy more. I was reading a bit just now and found the translation was pretty weird. I've been bothered mainly by the apparent littering of every other sentence with 'piratelike' words. And there not necessarily particularly piratelike … I just read Kuro saying "What in Neptune's name is going on?"
Anyway, in these senses, does the translation improve further on?
-
Aside from a throwaway line about walking the plank, the stereotypical pirate-speak vanishes almost entirely after the Kuro arc.

Tell me about it. But hey at least they are working on this. Hell I thought they were forsaking tablets altogether. Give it some time.

I still to this day, don't get your way of thinking.
Yeah, it's online, but don't you go online to read chapter releases on your computer? Your phone? You can download individual alpha releases, and then read them on the go. Depending on the size of your card, you could probably have quite a few to lug around. I'm even considering getting everything in digital from now on - I'm moving to my boyfriends' in a month or two, and it's cramped there. But even now where I have enough room for my books, I like the freedom of being able to carry it in my pocket. There's 4g nearly everywhere, and my phone can download it sitting at home if I really can't find anywhere else to do it, and then I can go on my way, reading in the car when others are driving or whatnot.
They do need to get it on the kindle now though, damn it.

Awesome! thanks :)

I think that's the case with all the other covers. I know that do it with _Naruto_ for sure.
I compared a few of my Japanese volume covers side by side and I don't think that's true, if anything some of the Viz covers are bit darker.
Doesn't really matter, it's a minor difference and possibly a deliberate tweak requested by the Japanese publisher. -
Ugh, I just got vol 64, which should be great, but there's a pretty big error in there. In ch 633, pg 129, Jinbe is supposed to be asking Shirahoshi about why didn't say anything about Hody, but all he says here for some reason is "Megalo…" Then she says "If I had..." as though she's replying to the question he hadn't asked.
I saw it mentioned in the digital version's comments a couple weeks ago, but I figured it was too late to change it for print by that point, so I just had to hope they would have fixed it by the time mine came in. And clearly, they didn't. I just sent a message on their site and Twitter; any other place I can go?
-
send it to Alexis Kirsch the OP editor, you can reach him on twitter, too.
-
Thanks, now he knows it's there, so I'm hopeful it can at least be fixed for the digital version and second printing…
-
Psht. Volume 66 isn't due out until March. Guess they gave up on their 'once-every-other-month' release rate. Damn. Punk Hazard, you're so far.
-

Any explanation from Viz as to why there is now a 4 month gap between release of volume 65 and 66? Not complaining, just curious.
I was hoping they'd be a maybe a month or two behind the latest Japanese release eventually… -
I was hoping so too. B&N's website shows the release date as March. I was looking forward to a catch up as well, but this is quite a setback. If they keep at the four month schedule, they'll always be two or three volumes behind.
-
Do you guys now where I could buy One Piece volume sets in english online?
-
Went to Barnes and Noble and couldnt find a copy of vol 64, anyone else having trouble finding it at the moment?
-

I'd go with Amazon, they have a promo where you can get (every) 4 volumes for the price of three, so if you buy lots of them it will add up, which is the way I did it.
@Venomous:

I had the same problem today until I asked one of the employees, apparently as a new arrival they don't bother putting any of them on the shelf but rather put them on a "new arrival" table wherever they have one.

Can someone refresh my memory on how exactly Rayleigh and Kuma's conversation in Volume 53 is a mistranslation? I think it might have been Rin who pointed it out. I would've looked back in the thread, but I remember the post being made waaaay too long ago for me to find (plus I think it might've been posted in Version 2 of this thread, which I'm sure has been deleted)
