Oda's INSPIRATION for One Piece

I don't get it.

Me either - I am guessing they meant to link something else as well - I'm sure it'll happen eventually

Am I missing something on Areebees post?

The farting guy with the purple shirt and the blue hankerchief on his head is suppose to look like Franky doing a Cou de Boo on a Kappa.

Yup, that was my point. I guess it wasn't as obvious as I thought.

Weren't all the generals based off Japanese actors in some way? Also there is that pic of that dude on OP wiki and Doflamingo both have a similar shirt. As for Monsters I'm pretty sure Oda said it's OP cannon because it's Ryuma's backstory and it shows how he killed a dragon. I hope this expounded on later. I still have trouble with where Oda got the name Magellan from :P

Correct about the admirals. I find it funny how much Kizaru looks like the actor he is based off of:

this one is kinda risque, but i was rereading Dragonball and noticed that Bulma in the bath was eerily similar to Nami in the bath…
-
Well, woman being shown taking a bath isn`t something rare in mangas..

I'm going to pretend that's not a serious post and never click this topic ever agian.

Shut up, dude just discovered a proof of Oda plagiarizing Toriyama.
Like he did with Kishi when he created Kumadori, he's obviously a fake Jiraya.please accept my apologies

That reminds me, wouldn't it be kind of awkward if Oda decides to name Bogart anything but Bogart?
-
It truly amazes me… The mind of a very creative individual, how he/she comes up with all these interesting characters and a concise and engaging storyline.

Humphrey would be okay, I guess.^^
But seriously, Bogart should really play a role somewhen.

You aren't sure if Oda is male or female? o.O
It's a man. Google him up, there are pictures. -

Ah, sorry then. The way you expressed it seemed odd to me (although that's maybe just because English isn't my mother tongue^^).
-
So yeah it's obvious Oda drew from Rurouni Kenshin as his inspiration since he was the assistant.
But dang, the whole deal with Aoshi from episodes 8-10 is really similar to Enies Lobby. I don't know the manga chapters, or what the arc's called, but I'll update this post later with screenshot comparisons and stuff. It's quite obviously a big place Oda drew his inspiration from.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or serious with this post since it's written in comic sans it implies sarcasm but that would make the post not true therefore the context can't be used and the … HEAD EXPLODE!

It's demonstrative - it convays the message within the message to save me writting the message after the message making a message of a message.
However regardless - if I see someone using comic sans in a post I'll imediately think they are being sarcastic - granted it's not convienent for fast retorts but if you really want to punctuate the sarcasm thats the best way. -
I was just pointing out that you inadvertently created a paradox with that post :P
It's like saying: "I always lie."

Is it only me or this thread is now more of "Similarities beetween OP and other pictures" than "Oda's inspiration for One Piece" ?

Not important enough for its own thread and is loosely related to this topic so…

Also, I'm pretty sure that the Yeti Cool Brothers get their name from Yeti Coolers.

I always find that Kizaru is based in the role Kunie Tanaka played in Truck Yarou, but looking for this film, the only thing I can find is this:
And this one has Bunta Sugawara as the main character, and Kunie Tanaka is not present.
So in wich movie Kunie Tanaka plays as Borsalino?? I can't find it nowhere!!!

It’s Like One Piece Is Ripping Off Disney and Tim Burton
Brian Ashcraft
On 2ch, Japan's largest bulletin, a thread popped up with the title, "Concrete Proof of One Piece's Plagiarism lulz". In this thread, an image showed seemed to detail how One Piece continues to knock off Disney and Tim Burton. Or does it?
In the above gallery, you can see comparisons from that thread. Most of the Disney examples are from either the 1989 film The Little Mermaid or the 1992 film Aladdin. There are a few from the 1993 film Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
One Piece did not begin its run until August 1997; though, it did make an appearance the year before, in 1996.
Yes, some of the comparisons are fairly clear, and it's easy to see the outside influences in One Piece. The manga's creator, Eiichiro Oda, has never been shy about professing his love for other manga or cartoons.
But, if I had never seen these comparisons, I'm not sure if I would have drawn them myself. Influences are only a bad thing if they result to dull, stifled copying. Influences are at their most beneficial if they are reworked and result in the creation of something new. Reading One Piece isn't like reading The Little Mermaid or Aladdin—or even Oda's beloved Dragon Ball. It's like reading One Piece. It is its own thing.
If you are a One Piece fan, and you haven't seen these comparisons before, they're fascinating and do open up a new level of appreciation of what Oda has created. Good manga artists copy. Great ones steal.

Some of those are very obvious, but it definitely isn't plagiarism of any kind.
The Alvida and Ursula one is silly. Just because they're both fat, it's the exact same?
People in Hazmat suits are very common, so nothing wrong there.I don't think I need to go on. Some of them may look the same, but their personalities are very different.
-
Most of those comparisons are ridiculous.
But it's from 2chan, and it even has the word "lulz" in the title, so I'm not taking it seriously.
-
Most of the comparisons are pretty silly but I mean Neptune is a mermaid and Oda claims that the Nightmare before Christmas is one of his favorite movies. They're not copies, they're homages.
-
Kotaku itself admits the comparisons don't really work on a lot of them. Most are simply tributes that Oda passes through a bizarro-world filter.
People need to slowly come to accept that plagiarism becomes proportionally harder to avoid the more the world gains entertainment. Things become less "original" by the day, which is why I hardly ever factor it into how I rank a series.
Being original is easy, honestly, but that doesn't mean your ORIGINAL STORY DO NOT STEAL will be a hit. Wanna be original? Find some random objects around the room. Make up some organization name from some random syllables or letters of scrabble words that you like. Boom, you have a secret (or not) organization/team in your story that probably have pretty original designs and/or powers. Now all you have to do is make them have a common theme (you don't even have to do this step, depends on if you're going for variety or cohesiveness). Object already taken? Combine 2 objects, 3, 5, 10, whatever. Combine ideas with the objects. Stories are going to become more complicated as time goes on because it's much easier to avoid plagiarism that way as long as the things are not separate stories.
…I didn't even mean to and I "plagiarized" South Park's idea generator for Family Guy with the balls with words on them that seals picked to determine the plot.

He's in the second movie.
Specifically, he plays Borsalino II, a rival antagonist of the second movie, Truck Yarou: Bakusou Ichibanboshi.
He has henchmen named Borsalino III and IV lol -
The Moria comparison is just stupid. Like, really stupid.
-
Hell, all the comparisons look stupid to me.
-
I stopped right after the Neptune comparison.
It's really dumb to call plagiarism when both are inspired from the actual Neptune.
-
the whole fishman island is an inspiration from the japanese folklore of urashima taro imo….i cant see any disney connections except the seakings....
the tamatebako box, ryuguu,otohime...its like oda's reference to japanese literature...
like aokiji. kizaru and akainu's name connection to momotaro's adventure companions.
-
Oda totally ripped off all the Admirals designs from real life.
Or they're just fun little references.
Seriously, some of those comparisons are weak. Oda draws a giant eel and is suddenly ripping off other eels from other cartoons/etc.?
-
The only one that is kinda legit is the hill from halloween town, but its still stupid
-
@Money:

Well, it's not like it is a secret that Oda loves "Nightmare Before Christmas" and often does tributes like that to it.
Heck, even on the Halloween Color Spread lately there was a tombstone with "Jack" written on it.
-
oda loves tarantino, tim burton and toriyama. i guess its safe to say he gets inspiration from there once in a while.
-
But by now, what is original in any form of entertainment
-
Bear in mind that the writer of the article is not saying Oda is directly copying them, so he isn't trying to bash One Piece, even though the article title seems otherwise. He is just pointing our possible influences that he had found on a 2ch forum.
However, I have to agree, most of the comparisons are pretty farfetched.
-
Caesar Clown is probably based on a Baphomet.
Bepo's name comes from a poem by Lord Byron in which the poem's character was captured and enslaved, but was freed by pirates that he joined, just like that of Bepo's crewmate Jean Bart.
-
@Money:

The stories are the same - the originality comes from how you tell them.
