Fair point on Byakuya. I was only taking As Nodt into consideration and every shinigami was stupid against their Quincy opponent except Yamamoto who'd probably been fine if not for the "lol I'm Lloyd's twin with the same but not power, Rroyd!" twist and I guess Kenpachi since he's apparently haxx enough that challenging the big bad doesn't seem stupid outside of obvious storytelling reasons why he'd fail (which are absurd given the aforementioned twist that screwed Yama).
But given Byakuya was stupid/looked weak against Tsukishima despite the outcome, yeah, Kubo forgot Byakuya was a legit fighting power before. Byakuya and Kenpachi are still staple fanservice bait though.

Pretty much. And we still don't know if the Quinzis managed to get away with all the Bankais, huh?

Pretty much. And we still don't know if the Quinzis managed to get away with all the Bankais, huh?
I'm guessing everyone but like Hitsu or someone we haven't seen their bankai will be the only one who surprise didn't stupidly get theirs stolen and saves someone who did. Probably Soi Fon with how Kubo's been shitting all over her lately and how her shikai should wreck whatever poor sap got stuck with her bankai.
But no, afaik there's been nothing said on who all lost their bankai aside from Byakuya and Yamamoto.

I maintain that Soi easily had the only advantage in her fight. Powerful, swift, two hit kill Shikai >>> heavy, hard to move, missile Bankai. So why didn't she win? Komamura technically had an advantage too, but it seems he's destined to always lose, like Chad or Renji.
Yama's Bankai alone is a very serious threat. Bach could easily reinvade with everyone wounded and unleash the unholy fiery zombie army to kill everyone. In fact, it's not even clear why Bach and his army had to retreat (they had the advantage!), so I await Kubo's hiliarous answer.

Quincies don't get a how-to guide when they take Bankais!
The worst thing about this is that your statement is "fan fiction" since it was never said in canon (to my knowledge)… Meaning they might just as well.
-
estimated training periods for ichigo this arc: 5
If by "training period" you mean asspull power-up, sure. Ichigo's only trained like once an arc and then had to pull extra power-ups out of his ass because Urahara/bankai/Vizard/Fullbring training wasn't enough. Though I guess Fullbring power-up was pulled out of SS's collective ass.
I think Mugetsu training was the only one that did anything, but even then Urahara pulled a Kido pokeball out of his ass rather than let Ichigo's training pay off.
-
Just a question: I know Japan is a lot more open with swears and lewd jokes but do the characters honestly talk like that this often in the raws or is this just Mangastream having to much fun with this crap. Its starting to get old.
They're using swearing words that don't exist in Japanese, nor are they equivalent to what is being said.
So… you have your answer.

He had a time limit on how long he could stay there due to that shadow thingy that transported them to SS. Plus they were waiting for the Royal Guard to come. Knowing who they are, i'm guessing he's not exactly expecting the SR he brought with him being capable of actually beating them…
SO he probably has his own Elite Quincy waiting back at his Ice Palace. -
I loved the one where his dad showed him the ultra training for the final move and stayed in a time-delayed space whilst waiting.
I'm expecting bach to be ichigos 2nd opponent this time around, followed by NegaYama and then MechAizen.
Finally tho, he will have to defeat the incarnation of Urahara's bankai, who strangely enough will be this guy:!

@Metamario: Kubo is just being lazy because your reasoning stands. Although, did Byakuya ever use kido during battles? He probably did I can't remember. It wouldn't be hard for kubo to make some notes of power and weapon stats and stuff. People do that all the time in tabletop rpgs, and they do that for FUN, where Kubo does it for work and a lot of money. I don't play rpgs at all but I have notes for the powers and abilities of every one of my novella characters no matter how minor. This is because I might need to use them in battle some day since my work heavily involves battles. When planning a battle I will refer to my extensive notebooks, which basically function the same as those manuals in tabletop rpgs. When in doubt get the rulebook out. Kubo wouldn't even have to to extensive notes, so long as he had something to refer to for consistency. He's a lazy fuck though which is why we can analyse how terrible he is.
Seph: the presumption is Benihime is female, but of course "she" could be a trap or gender bender. Also Kubo has "forgotten" that too probably.
He really has no excuse, even if he doesn't have a stat sheet she has HIS OWN MANGA to refer to.
-
Did Byakuya ever use kido in battle? He was one of the only Captains who did; his favorite spell being the light prison, which he used on Renji and Rukia, when she'd gotten possessed by Zommari. Which is why it makes no sense that during this latest fight, he suddenly forgot all about it. That fight against spike-face was an easy win, all he had to do was use the prison, then the beam spell to shoot through the head—bam, dead Quincy. Or the prison in conjunction with his Shikai, either way, the end result would've been the same. Of course, Kubo seems to have forgotten that kido was ever a thing. Not that I like Byakuya, mind you, but his loss was incredibly stupid and obviously played up for the drama (which will all be negated when he lives)…

See my knowledge of bleach is becoming more meh the less i case, and it's sad that i am losing interest because early bleach was amazing.
-
It's cool, I have a selective memory regarding Bleach and Naruto.
Since this week's chapters have already been thoroughly dumped on, let's talk about Bleach characters who you felt had potential, but never got to show it. Minor ones, though, because otherwise I'm sure Chad and Uryu's names would be one of the first to come up. You can pick characters whose designs you liked or characters who showed fighting potential back in the good old days. As for me, I'll stick with two for now: Tatsuki Arisawa and Tetsuzaemon Iba.
Tatsuki I picked based on both her design (I love short hair) and her potential as a fighter. This is a girl who's been training in a martial art pretty much her entire life, and came in, I believe, second in a national tournament. Also, she totally made Ichigo cry like a little bitch when they were kids. A lot to love, but all that potential got shoved to the side to make room for a healing item with huge breasts—classic Kubo. Her slight spiritual awareness never went beyond being able to see the general outline of spirits and hollows, then Yammy showed up and Tatsuki lost all relevance after being incapacitated. Poor Tatsuki was doomed to play second banana to Orihime pretty much from the get-go, despite being the better character. Oh, and, of course, being labeled a lesbian because she's Orihime's best friend (though I'm sure her haircut also plays a part in that).
As for Tetsuzaemon, I like his design (Yakuza guy) and he's a lieutenant, so he's obviously a capable fighter. Also, he used to be in Squad 11 before winding up working for Dogface, so that's another plus. His "fight" with Ikkaku during Soul Society was amusing, since neither of them were taking it seriously (unlike Hisagi, who apparently volunteered to get the same size stick up his ass as Tousen); then during the "war" he faced the landwhale and jobbed out before Dogface stepped in, the end. The last time he was seen was earlier this arc, sporting a brand new scar, and having no lines. Of course, that's just what happens when you create too many characters and suck at storytelling; most of them are shoved to the background in favor of the fan-favorites and big-titted women…
-
A lot to love, but all that potential got shoved to the side to make room for a healing item with huge breasts—classic Kubo.
You can insult Kubo all you want but insult the mamaries and it gets personal.
No, but seriously, I wouldn't mind if Orihime got, ya know, focus and development and not whatever the FUCK it was we got in the last arc….because that shit seriously made me pissed off for a good two weeks straight.
-
Orihime used to be a good character… until the Soul Society arc ended. Then she got reduced to being in love with Ichigo, being kidnapped and screaming "KUROSAKI-KUN!" ad nauseum without doing shit. Not to mention her penchant for reviving characters she should've left dead of her own free will. But hey, tits, amirite?
-

Yes they are quite mesmerising.
But we never even see em anymore and that makes me sad
-
I feel you Mugen. I was hoping Ishida would get a lot more development. He should have been far more awesome as a ranged character. But I guess it doesn't matter if swords produce flying attacks…I had always felt that while he got shafted along most characters he at least had a personality and I could actually see him having a life outside of all these stupid battles. Either as a fashion designer, or a government worker or a doctor like his father. That was my main issue with Ichigo is that he really seems to have no normal life goals. He's got all these fighting abilities but has basically nothing going for his personality. Which is why I found Ishida to be a better character than him, and really one of a few reasons I kept with this.
Yumichika is the other character I was hoping to see more of once Kubo started using the Shingami more often. I like in a way that he was gimping his sword by using the wrong name to piss it off just to hid it's ability. Then we finally got to see what it could actually do. The sword filler arc made me like it more cause it happened to look similar to a character I drew many years ago. I was also hoping to see his bankai...But that'll probably never happen.
-
Ichigo's got the personality of a brick wall, which is one of the things that makes Bleach such a boring read when he's the sole focus. On the other hand, you have Chad and Uryu, who have some semblance of a personality and talents other than fighting (guitar and sewing, respectively). I expected so much more from Chad, given that he's the reason I got into Bleach in the first place after watching an episode of Bleach on [as] while waiting for Blood+ to air. I was quite surprised to see a big half-Mexican dude talking about how his abuelo taught him to use his strength to defend things he cherished, instead of being destructive. Being Mexican myself, he instantly became my favorite character (until Kenpachi showed up). After getting more into the series, I accepted that he lost to Kyoraku, given that he was a Captain and one of the oldest ones, to boot. Then came the Arrancar arc, where Chad jobbed out to the lowest piece of shit on the Arrancar ladder, D-Roy. From then on, I could tell that poor Chad was doomed to be nothing more than an oversized punching bag. Which is a damn shame, really, because he's the only "major" character whose fighting style doesn't involve a blade, and brawler-style fighters always appeal to me more than swordsmen or ranged fighters. Oh, well, we'll always have that one La Muerte…
-
I predict that Chad will get to have a climatic showdown with the floor…he tags in after Renji jobs out to the floor.
-
He did school that wall back in Las Noches, so the odds are in Chad's favor…
-
Poor Tatsuki was doomed to play second banana to Orihime pretty much from the get-go, despite being the better character.
You know you have it bad when you're playing second banana to a second banana, and you know you have it terrible when you're playing second banana to someone shafted as terribly Orihime and Chad in the Failbringer arc.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
And I still say that Kubo squandered tons of potential with the whole Douche Society thing.Even if he had kept them as the "right side",he really could've done some gray morality and inner conflict for Ichigo("man, these guys are despicable assholes, but if I don't help em out,the result will be an even greater evil and calamity!").
Just imagine all the tension.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Hell,Douche Society would have an actual valid reason to distrust him all the time.

The last decent show of Kido we even got was from Hachi when he was facing off against Barragan, Urahara vs Aizen who used 3 binding techniques 1 after the other so he could do a way of destruction #91 spell with full incantation and of course Aizen in his god mode using full incantation Black Coffin which Ichigo just smashed to pieces like it was nothing.
-
It's super annoying that we are supposed to assume Ichigo thinks of them as friends. He never has any interactions that says "These people I encounter at school and who I fight for are my friends." He treats them like major inconveniences and annoyances 90%. He treats his sisters only like an obligation. I can't recall him doing much that says I'm a normal loving older brother. We only really see him interact when they are in danger. He never seems to actually have fun on his own. It's kinda sad really.
-
First volumes Ichigo was a true friend, I still can't believe this Ichigo killed the first volumes Ichigo and used his Fullbringer to make all the people believe he is the true Ichigo.
Now that was a dark twist.
-
@Baroness: Ichigo was totally a good brother. How else can you explain Yuzu developing her brother complex in the Fullbring arc?
Also, seeing Tatsuki and mini-Tatsuki (Karin) again, along with Ikumi were the only parts of the Fullbring arc I actually enjoyed. Too bad they only showed up for a brief moment in the beginning, then got friendstabbed by Tsukishima and pushed out of focus…
-
What was the point of introducing Ichigo's hot boss and her child. It seemed like Kubo was going to go somewhere with them but then he just forgot about them and we never saw them again.
-
Tits, of course. As for the kid, who knows, but he was insufferable in those two panels he was in. No, wait, he was there to give Ikumi MILF status, so she wouldn't be just a cougar…
-

She had a tall enough door for Ginjou to walk in and say his literary masterstroke of, "Want some ramen?" Without that door, I don't know if we'd be where we are today.
Other than that she seems pretty purposeless.

Exactly omg
Friendship and brotherly love in name only
-
That juubi is one ugly piece of shit….
-
I still think that before Kubo hit ludicrous speed on that arc the kids absent father was going to be the dead Shinigami in the Fullbringers' backstory, but that's probably giving Kubo too much credit. Still, Ichigo's boss being the one source of sanity and then nope, Tsukishima got to her too! was one of the most hilarious points of the arc. Really, that whole chapter was a goldmine. I was half-expecting Ichigo to start shouting ''Soylent Green is people!'' as he ran through the street.
-
So uh.
Isn't one of those Squad Zero members supposed to be Yachiru's namesake?
-
So uh.
Isn't one of those Squad Zero members supposed to be Yachiru's namesake?
Was that person Zero squad? I thought it was just someone Kenpachi admired who is her name sake.
-
@Cruithne: What? No, the only member of the Zero squad that we knew about beforehand was Hiyori's ex-Captain, the blob, who was mentioned back in the Pendulum arc. As for the original Yachiru, we'll never know who he/she was, just like we'll never see the current Yachiru do anything other than being Kenpachi's cute adopted daughter.
It's a shame, too, because she's implied to be strong enough to occupy the lieutenant seat, but so far we've only been shown a scrap of evidence to support that (that big, cat-like burst of spiritual pressure back in SS). Still, we know nepotism exists in Soul Society, like Oomaeda's family, and probably the Kuchiki's, so I guess it's no surprise that they let a Captain-killer like Kenpachi appoint whoever he pleased as his second in command…
-
Just speeding through-

SO he probably has his own Elite Quincy waiting back at his Ice Palace.Fair enough. The Royal Guard would probably…...beat all the Stern Ritters. Also, where is this damn ice palace????
But still, Seireitei is screwed either way. How can they beat the man that can summon fiery zombies of hell?

Not to mention her penchant for reviving characters she should've left dead of her own free will. But hey, tits, amirite?
Yes, I pretty much agree with you guys on all three of these characters. Especially Tatsuki and Orihime.
Tatsuki was kick-ass, tough, and no nonsense. And anyone that made Ichigo cry is great in my book. It's just a shame she joined the ranks of Mizuiro and Keigo; just background characters you see once in a blue moon. With her karate prowess, she easily could've got powers that made her a hands on fighter like Chad. Just…..augh, wasted potential. And I knew she would never be important again when Orihime chose to say goodbye to Ichigo (her dense crush) and not Tatsuki (her BEST FRIEND). Speaking of-
Orihime I liked because she was quirky, amusing, and her powers were (like that of Ishida and Chad) interesting and different from everyone else just swinging a magic sword. Remember the Shun Shun Rikka fairies? Remember that Orihime.....attacks?! Not Kubo, and one of the most damning things he did was turn her into an impulsive healing item (let's heal everyone! Grimmjow, Menoly, Harribel, Apache, Sun-Sun, Mila Rose.....because you know, it's not like they weren't on different sides?!). From there, things went down the tubes. She became annoying and not quirky anyone. She made crazy food and drew herself as a robot, Kubo! Remember that?!
She shares the same fate as Chad, being useless and constantly shafted. But with Chad, he's more faded into oblivion. Orihime you see more and we're constantly informed that she's only there to heal and nothing more. And seriously, can't she not say "Kurosaki-kun" anymore? Just say "Ichigo" and reduce the blow.
It's a shame, too, because she's implied to be strong enough to occupy the lieutenant seat, but so far we've only been shown a scrap of evidence to support that (that big, cat-like burst of spiritual pressure back in SS). Kubo may have wrecked Kenpachi, but there's still a glimmer of hope for Yachiru. Please…one scene of her fighting and showing why she's the vice-captain. Just one. Remember that Rangiku said Ikkaku is afraid of Yachiru?
-
Also, where is this damn ice palace????
The ice palace is in… The Heart.
Orihime I liked because she was quirky, amusing, and her powers were (like that of Ishida and Chad) interesting and different from everyone else just swinging a magic sword. I'd settle for Ichigo-kun. Kubo made her suddenly gain like a million points in indiscriminate compassion and lose all her quirkiness. Also apparently he forgot she attacks since her shield needed to be able to counterattack as a power-up (which would've been the first good development for a side character in ages despite the semi-redundancy if not for Tsukishima mindfucking her and Chad).
Funny how pretty much all the characters that were hinted at becoming relevant that I liked (Tatsuki and Keigo… and that other dude) showed up during Deicide just to run away from Aizen. Don Kannonji too. Tatsuki, Keigo, Kon (and a further mod soul story), and Don Kanonji could've been great. Although seeing how Kubo turned Orihime into garbage and even managed to ruin Kenpachi, it's probably better they stay as "wasted potential" instead of turning into steaming piles of soul manure.

Bleach fan talk about Berserk:
Basically what I look for in a manga is an interesting story with a philosophical meaning behind it. Let's take Bleach for example. Kubo manages to incorporate various ideas from different belief systems into his manga as well as incorporating things like race and ethinictity in as well. All te while he also delivers interesting scenarios that make you think on the spot e.g. were the Gotei 13 right to blindly follow Central 46, was the Rukongai massacre justified etc?
I heard Berserk did this as well but IMO I don't reallly see anything as interesting as the stuff Bleach in it so far. It just seems to me that Guts comes along he slashes down some enemies, there's some voyeurism and then the arc ends. Next arc is pretty much the same. I finished the Lost Children arc but I don't see what the point of it was. Felt like a filler tbh.
There's too little dialogue as well and IMO the more dialogue the better. It looks like to me that the author is jsut trying to be really abstract with the meaning behind each arc but I really don't see what he's trying to say or what's so philosophical about what he's trying to say.
Honestly am I missing something because I hear a lot of people saying that there's this huge philosophical meaning behind each arc?
-
Pretty sure that's been posted before, but lol at any Bleach fan claiming lack of dialogue and the author seemingly trying to be abstract with the meaning behind things as a fault of other series.

The ice palace is in… The Heart.
I am calling it now, Kubo will either repeat that page or make another titled "The Soul/Body/Bind/anyothernoun".
Mark my words.

Also apparently he forgot she attacks since her shield needed to be able to counterattack as a power-up (which would've been the first good development for a side character in ages despite the semi-redundancy if not for Tsukishima mindfucking her and Chad).
Since I have a better memory than Kubo, I know for a fact her attack fairy was that gruff male one, Tsubaki. Think about to when Yammy overwhelmed Orihime and Chad in Karakura, and her pin broke. Little did we know that was the foreshadowing Kubo would not make her attack anymore and make her helpless.
Orihime technically has one of the most broken powers in the series, so I guess her not doing anything significant is Kubo's hare-brained way of balancing it out, but there's a fine line between balancing and just removing someone from revelance.
Much like Yachiru's little cameo last arc, showing all the former greats in Deicide was Kubo's way to show us that he actually remembers people, but moved them out of the way to give Ichigo a power-up and make him fight Aizen. Bleach would've been awesome if it remained a quirky ghost-hunting story between friends, with Don Kanonji being the unofficial "leader" of them all and defender of Karakura.
Although seeing how Kubo turned Orihime into garbage and even managed to ruin Kenpachi, it's probably better they stay as "wasted potential" instead of turning into steaming piles of soul manure.
I guess. The lesser of two evils.
