! I can see Darnil Kahn too between other people. And it seems Toriko noticed the presence of Kousairou (I can see his back). Damn the break!
Am I wrong or number 3 is missing?
! EDIT: WTF? Is that Rob Halford on first page?
Toriko
-
-
! Dark Skinned Almost Naked Bewbs with Bone Outfit…. yay. Also, epic new characters... then Komatsu just kinda in the middle of em all. The fights in this Arch will be epic.
-
Please keep things spoiler tagged haha and once it's out can someone link the batoto scan? :)
-
! wasn´t number 3 Chiyo? Prolly the only ones that know about her bishokukai affiliation now are Toriko+Komatsu, Master Chin and his disciples, Chiru, and prolly the Zero Biotope.
-
! wasn´t number 3 Chiyo? Prolly the only ones that know about her bishokukai affiliation now are Toriko+Komatsu, Master Chin and his disciples, Chiru, and prolly the Zero Biotope.
! If I correctly remember Chiyo disappeared long ago, so she can't be the number 3. The only one high ranking chef missing is number 3 but still I think it's impossible that's Chiyo. I got some other options:
- Joa: he is a greatly skilled chef, as he's the only one able to remove poison from Poison Potato, plus he's the personal chef of the king of Jidar Kingdom, still he is too mysterious and cryptic;
- the Four Beast mastermind (if he isn't Joa);
- Atashino: he's a chef (surely high skilled) as well as a surgeon but he can't go the Fest because of his duty in 0th Biotope (so why Kousairou went? maybe because Kousairou is as strong as hell (and much stronger than Atashino)?
- the guy above Setsuno in this panel –> http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120912130217/toriko/images/2/20/TopChefs.png
who, if I'm correct, is missing.
-
! Next chapter, Shimabukuro introduces the rest of the top 100 chefs. /jk
! On a more serious note, given a bunch of chefs were kidnapped, does that mean that the festival won't have 100 people? (Like is Ootake still part of the 100 for example?)
! This chapter highlights one of the stories best/worst traits. Lots of interesting designs/concepts, but they don't go anywhere. Well… the chefs were just introduced, so we'll see if some of them (or at least the new ones) stand out.
! And please spend some chapters on the competition, and just the competition. Having these characters cook can be a lot of fun to read.
! This arc can make or break Toriko since this has so many characters coming together. If there is a time for the story to prove itself, it's this arc. -
@Area51: Yeah, maybe it´s like you say.
BTW I wanna point out something that not everyone may have noticed, but Atashino is female :P
When a friend who started Toriko recently asked me why there were so few females, I told her the number is currently increasing, and so I went to Toriko wikia and searched for the word "female"
There I noticed Atashino on said category, and indeed when Ichiryuu is with her and Melk I at Slow Rain Hills, we can indeed see she´s female c:
-
! I'm still waiting for this to be cleaned, and I'll typeset it when I get back from work as usual.
Anyhow, I like this chapter. It gives us more information about the whole "world". A fair number of these chefs have been mentioned. Obviously they're not gonna all be major characters. Part of what the world of Toriko is is that enough information is given to explain "how the world works" and that there "are people like this that do these kinds of things". Like, with cooking being so important in the world, you have cooks specializing in cooking with poison, people who have special techniques or traits, etc. And then there are a few super-skilled all-around champs. I think it's just the like of Zaus and Setsuno and Yuda that will be especially important plot-wise. But the other guys may come up again once we get to the Gourmet World part of the series. This seems to be the "finale" of the Human World part of the series, so-to-speak. The biggest most important event in Human World, all the biggest celebrities show up, and likely there'll be some big battle with the Bishokukai. Don't worry though, I'm sure Shimabukuro will do some "cooking events" where these guys get shown off a little at least before the fighting starts.
! Shimabukuro, here and in Takeshi, does a lot of this kind of foreshadowing. Where we see people who eventually become important. But some aren't really important and are just more of a "This group of people is really big, so these are some of the kinds of people in it" sort of thing sometimes. It's part of the world building but it also keeps the story unpredictable, because some things are more important than others. -
@Skadi
Oh, you're right, Atashino clearly is a woman
I'm sure this arc would turn to be the most epic since the beginning. -
Okay, after reading this chapter, and seeing Yuji, I gotta ask, just what is "Hormone Grilling"?
-
http://www.mangahere.com/manga/toriko/c212/
Looks like a fun arc coming up.
-
Yeesh this chapter was like 90% character introductions goddamn
-
I got a kick out of the part where they introduce the oil king and say he has oil running through his veins rather than blood, and then he replies with "Well, it's still blood for now"
-
Just read the little message on the last page. It says that the manga is going to hiatus and will be back on issue 1 of the New Year. What does that exactly mean? Does jump start the issues for the New Year earlier or are we not getting chapters for awhile.
-
So just about 90% of the cast is there…makes me wonder if we'll see some of them (besides the chefs) in action when the Bishokukai show up.
-
That you Zeff!?

Haha loads of fun with these character designs.
-
I know I'm not the only one that saw the oil king and thought it was a little stereotypical?
-

I would have considered it if he had a Jerry Curl. Without it, I say no.

It is awkwardly worded, but it's basically saying starting next issue the manga is on Hiatus. So we don't get a new chapter till January :P
-
No. "On hiatus for next issue" means "next issue" not "for a month and a half starting next issue". This is Jump issue 51. It's on hiatus for issue 52. The next one is 1. Why the hell would the manga be on hiatus for that long…

Oh good, I was pretty sure they restarted the issues earlier than the actual New Year, but wasn't sure.
-
Only Toriko would spend an entire chapter introducing dozens of new characters. Of course since it's Toriko we also know that we'll get one chapter into the cooking festival before a massive war begins and all those guys become useless :(
I still think it's cool though. -
So many good character designs. I like how most of them aren't completely relegated to the kind of food they make.
Crossing my fingers that Komatsu won't make it anywhere near the top of the rankings. I'd expect it normally, but this is Shima we're talking about.
-
Sooo did I mis something or they haven't introduced the rank 3 chef? Zaus is 1st, Setsuno is 2nd, Damala Sky is 4th and Yuda is 5th. Maybe it's Chiyo herself.
-
I might have been interested in all these new characters if I believed even a quarter of them would get some character development.
-
So any idea's who was it Toriko noticed just before the chefs start coming out ?
-

Like I said when the raw come out, I think Chiyo cannot be the number, even if she was constantly in top 5. Why? Because she disappeared long ago, too long ago. I have some options for the yet to be introduced number 3:
- Joa: he is a greatly skilled chef, as he's the only one able to remove poison from Poison Potato, plus he's the personal chef of the king of Jidar Kingdom, still he is too mysterious and cryptic;
- the Four Beast mastermind (if he isn't Joa);

who, if I'm correct, is missing.
About the chef, I think we'll see someone of them fighting: Zaus (whom I think he's at least as strong as Setsuno), Setsuno, number 3, Damala Sky, Yuda and the others who were said (by JoeJoe or Starjun) masters in other ways than cooking (Tairan, Livebearer, ecc.).
@Dark-Abel:So any idea's who was it Toriko noticed just before the chefs start coming out ?
I think he noticed Kousairou (we saw his back).
-
Most of these chefs are there to show their cooking skills, but exceptions like Zaus, Dalama, etc will surely be capable to fight given the Bishokukai labeled as really dangerous.
And I finally found the chapter where the it was stated the Bishokukai had Nitros. It was when Niceny made his first appearance. They even went as far as to remark that Nitro are further evolved and harbor special pheromones.
-
I want a livebear vs grinpatch scary faces.
And great chapter. -
Thanks Kewl !
A pretty good…..exposition chapter I think you'd call it :P
-
These kind of chapters are fun to read in bulks. So much characters, so much information… It just makes me more impatient for the next one, that's for sure.

On first page you can see Judas Priest singer Rob Halford performing live
@Strawhat:The guy above Setsuno isn't missing. He appears in he background in this chapter.
All right, I just saw him. But why wouldn't he be introduced? And still he's one of those chefs which are said (by the hellish strong Starjun) difficult to capture. So why wasn't he introduced? Mmmm…
'Till now they got 49 editions of Cooking festival, one taking place 4 years after the previous. So, the Cooking Festival has been going on for 200 years. According to which is said in this chapter, Setsuno won 29 times, Zaus won 14 times, Yuda twice, so we miss the winner (or the winners) of 3 editions (I assume Chiyo won at least once). Moreover we can presume Setsuno at least is 200 years old.
-
Lol, I just noticed Zebra has that side of his mouth sewed up again.
And Melk II still looks as tomboyish as ever.
But the most interesting part is the apparent abscence of Kuribo. Could it be Ichiryuu didn't send him to the festival but another place?
-

Kuriboh wasn't the one Ichiryuu sent to the Cooking Festival. It was the other guy that showed up this chapter that Toriko notices, Kousairou (whose name like a bunch of others I constantly have to look up for this series). We're not quite sure what Kuriboh was assigned to do.

Actually he's on this page http://www.batoto.net/read/_/141655/toriko_ch212_by_hi-wa-mata-noboru/16
And I noticed this before the wiki "verified" it, but the picture you posted mentioned a bunch of chefs that appeared this chapter except Iron Plate Magician Moh, who is the only face in that picture that doesn't have a name.
And another thing I wanna point out/ask, has Yuda ever been called "Tray King" other than in that panel? Sure, a person doesn't really need three monikers, but easter eggs like this are the rewards for meticulous readers.

I think you mean Kousairou there, he was sent to the festival.
-
So… many... designs... Apollo, Zaus, Moh, Horis, random cigar guy at the last page ( this one is just in the background, he may remain unnamed ), Gen-chan and Koyubi are my favourites design-wise.
Normally a chapter like this gets a 10 from me ( they're the kind i love the most ), but Livebearer appears, so i guess a 11 is deserved. (he's fucking 17th? i never expected he would be so high, ( in both ways ) )
-
I think you mean Kousairou there, he was sent to the festival.
Yes, thank you. Fixed my post. But that's a perfect example right there. There's too many character names that have done too little and I'm having a hard time caring enough to remember them all, though I'm willing to wait for the characters to become more prominent.
That said, I'm surprised so many people on this thread knows everyone's names so well.
-

Oh, so that could be Moh. So we cannot exclude he's the number 3.
If I'm correct Yuda was called "Tray King" when he was first introduced too (during the Four Beast arc incipit).
@Gizmo:That said, I'm surprised so many people on this thread knows everyone's names so well.
I know (near) everone's name because I'm stricly addicted to Toriko
Anyway, I too am fu@£ing curious about the engine/robot of Darnil Kahn. Someone has some ideas?
-
Ah, I see. So that guy was Moh. I was thinking that he was the last guy from that panel who hadn't been introduced. I had to go back and reference that panel to make sure I used the same romanizations for the names and translations for the titles. I thought maybe he'd decided to change somebody's design, which is why that gat guy with the mustache wasn't in it. But I see now, he's the last one left unnamed so that has to be him. (Because of all the lines I had to triple check that I didn't miss any part of any line, confuse any labels, or anything like that. A lot of stuff is also said twice, then later on only once. But their name and the labels usually are the same. But sometimes the label before the description is their kind of cooking and not their "nickname"… It's confusing.)
It's an interesting way Shimabukuro did this. He purposefully left stuff out so the fans can try to fill things in. Obviously, we won't see all 100 top chefs. But the very top ones are important. Whoever is #3, as well as the only other one to be named Supercook, is probably important.
-
Komatsu's friend (who's his name again) seems to know "Old Lady Sumire", judging from how he refers to her like Komatsu refers to 'Granny Setsu'.
-
Whoever is #3, as well as the only other one to be named Supercook, is probably important.
Kewl, why you said "the only other one" ? :ninja:
According to the chapter212 you translated, there are 5 persons who gained the title of Supercook.
We know three of them already (Zaus, Setsuno, Yuda)
So that leaves two more persons right?
Either " Person A was a three-time champion & Person B was a one-time champion " or " Both unknown persons were a two-time champion"
Correct me if I'm wrong
-
I think one of the two remaining is Chiyo, the other one could be everyone else but the chefs introduced, maybe the number 3 or…Frohze (before his death, the first edition)?
-

I don't think it's Frohze. It might be Chiyo and Atashino. Atashino, being a powerful Chef as well as a member of the 0 Bitope, must be ranked 3rd now. There's no way she's ranked 32nd or less.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---

In my opinion, while it does looks like Moh is perhaps ranked 3rd since he's mentioned in the top 30… Shima probably retconned it. I mean, there's no way that he's 3rd while Atashino - a 0 Biotope and a Chef with whom Ichiryu have entrusted the task of preparing Atom - is ranked below 31.
-

But she could be out of the IGO "control" (in fact 0th Biotope is made of private citizens highly skilled), and so Joa could be. Other than that, why would Kousairou went to the Fest to guard the event and not her? Ok, Kousairou's leaving is said to be a great loss for the military force of 0th Biotope, so he could even be on par (near) with Ichiryuu, but Atashino too must be crazily strong and still she remains in Gourmet World.
Ok, Frohze is an exaggeration, but Chiyo and number 3 are quite sure in my opinion. -
Okay, after reading this chapter, and seeing Yuji, I gotta ask, just what is "Hormone Grilling"?
Hormones, innards, and other various organs (instead of meat) BBQed. Often served on a stick.
They are usually toss away/throwaway parts, and heck of a lot cheaper than other parts of edible body.
Really cheap local downtown BBQ joints in Japan has them for little to nothing. The Osaka-favorite classic anime for decades, Jarinko Chie prominently features it, as her no-good alcoholic father runs a hormone bbq joint, which she ends up running much of the time.
And btw, I'm from Osaka, but I never liked them… I mean, they're pretty disgusting. It's food for the poor. -

Those BBQ'ed organ meats and such look delicious on picture, and on tv, but I know otherwise from personal experience. Haven't smelled many things that are on the level of foulness as boiling pig intestine. (other than rot, and a few other things)
I wonder what they smell like when they are grilling.
Reminds me that Zebra has the intestine of some creature on his full course.
-
Am I the only one who sees Koyubi as a deformed Freddie Mercury?
-
Oh and by the way Shima. Livebearer only had a cameo last arc, I get it. But please, if he showed up now, have him be as creepy as before, that was the best thing about him by far. The fact he doesn't want to molest Komatsu anymore doesn't mean that you have to make him completely mellow and unmemorable.
