Yea its a more comedic show where the Titans don't fight evil people instead they deal with being rommates with each other. That's the new focus.
Young Justice RETURSN OMG

@RobbyBevard:
Considering that they're actually on the previous season of the show, and these things take a year to produce, and they need word soon or else the staff scatters to the wind looking for new jobs… they actually DO kind of need to know if they're doing a third season by now.
For there to be new episodes by next September, production has to start on season 3 pretty much last week.
Really they needed to know a couple months ago. (Counter example, MLP was already scripting and voice recording for season 3 before season 2 even started airing. Venture Brothers announced they had a new season coming right when the last episode of last season aired. South Park is renewed for 3 years at a time.)
Saying otherwise at this point is kind of just going "yeah, keep watching, it'll continue, honest! Don't be disappointed, we aren't canceling it! If we admitted that before we let it die quietly there might be complaints!"
They may be committed to the DCU lineup, but it doesn't mean they're committed to a specific show in that block.
Well, you still shouldn't be surprised if Beware The Batman or Teen Titans Go takes the shows time spot for at least for a few months till new episodes are ready. Obviously 1 of the shows on DC Nation will have to leave due to their being 2 shows coming.
-
Even if they put a new season into production right now, the best case scenario is that it'd be late summer before the episodes are completed, next fall when they air, and probably 2014 before the season actually ends. Well, provided that Cartoon Network even bothers to air them when the season is finished and doesn't sit on them forever like they did Batman:The Brave and the Bold and Mystery Incorporated.
I just don't think it's going to happen. A new Teen Titans series, a cancelled toyline, and no order for new episodes just doesn't sound like a series that they intend to keep going.
Saying otherwise at this point is kind of just going "yeah, keep watching, it'll continue, honest! Don't be disappointed, we aren't canceling it! If we admitted that before we let it die quietly there might be complaints!"
I think that's really more what prompted that exec than anything else. Admitting that the show was dead is not a way to keep people watching it until the end of the season.
The upside for the series is that it won't get the Generator Rex treatment because they'll want to keep the characters in the public mind until new shows start.
-
Also, side note. I found it HILARIOUS when the Guy Gardner ep of Green Lantern aired the other week, because it was completely amazingly blatantly a new staff taking over the new season and cleaning out the stuff they didn't want (Like the love interest) as fast as possible… in a fashion so blatant I haven't seen since Max Steel. (Which completely changed its cast and premise every single season as new creative crews kept switching out.)
Well, maybe Ben 10, but that at least has the decency to change its title and art style when it switches out the staff.

Well, for the most part Ben 10 has kept the same team since Alien Force, the new Art Director has been a character designer for a long time. The Showrunner only changed after the first episode because that's when he died.
-
Why did they cacel or end Generator Rex? I liked it.
-
Their usual piss-poor job of scheduling killed its ratings.
It was one of their highest rated shows up until their unannounced summer hiatus that it never recovered from.
-
^ Not to mention the fact that they still haven't gotten around to airing the remaining season 2 episodes in America.

Did someone say "Unannounced Hiatus"?!
Cus apparently what the monkeys at CN are doing to the DC Nation block, as it's been replaced on the schedule at the last minute by reruns of Dragons Riders of Berk!

We're plenty trained in that; we're one science experiment away from gaining enough intelligence to rebel against them and take over the
worldnetwork.Seriously, I finally got myself to watch Darkest this morning (after missing it due to Thanksgiving) just so I'd know what was going on today!

What the fuck!My post a page back yes, yes it did.

They're saying the bump is to plug the Birthday celebration. I'd be more inclined to believe that if they were replacing the shows with something nostalgic. Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack , Duck Dodgers, Powerpuff Girls, Billy & Mandy, Foster's, Chowder, Johnny Bravo, Megas XLR, anything! But we got DREAMWORKS Dragons: Riders of Berk! (what a mouthfull)
Now, I don't know about the specifics of this, but what are Dragon's ratings like? I know they recently moved its premier date (which rarely, if ever happens so soon into a new show's run). This feels more like CN struggling to find an audience for Dragons at the expense of DC Nation to me.
-
^ Now see, that's what I thought too, why replace DC Nation on the Birthday weekend with something that isn't a classic show? Someone somewhere suggested they were reacting to the numbers from Nick's new TMNT show, maybe re-arranging things to compete with it better?
Just looked into Dragon's ratings for this week:
Immediately following, new series Dreamworks Dragons: Riders of Berk (7:30 p.m.) scored as the #1 telecast in its time period among kids 2-11 & 6-11 and all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14. Compared to the same time period last year, average kids delivery grew by triple digits—kids 2-11 by 128%, kids 6-11 by 148% and kids 9-14 by 109%.
That's an impressive number, though it is for a Wednesday evening slot, so…I dunno.
-
Cartoon network's twitter says DC nation will return in Janurary. Now it's just a question of where to direct the fan rage.
-

I kinda liked the flow Saturday mornings was having? Nothing new was really competing against anything else. Ben 10 to Clone Wars, to Green Lantern to Young Justice to TMNT. What's the issue there?
The difference is Nickelodeon has a show that appeals to kids and older demographics, they advertise it (on other networks even!), air it at good time and in general seem to treat it as something they want to have. CN treats their action shows like red headed step children, basically one step up from the Pokemon/Bakugan style shows they seem to feel obligated to air.
So we got 2 eps then a hiatus until January? Lovely. it's Generator Rex/ Symbionic Titan/ Thundercats all over again. -_____-
-
@Sniper:
Didn't a quote from a CN representative on page 50 of this thread say CN was dedicated to DC Nation?! What the fuck!
Yeah they're dedicated all right dedicated to fucking their viewers in the ass raw without the common courtesy to give them a reach around. Hmmm maybe that was too strong of analogy.
-
The worst part is?
I don't even care.
The hiatuses the show already had, combined with the awful timeskip, the far, far too large cast of literal thousands… and the fact we're pretty sure its canceled? I just don't care about the show.
Its still very high quality. Well written, fantastically animated, one of the best interpretations of the DCU we've gotten (but one that definitely counts waaay too much on you already knowing the universe very well). In a just world it would run for six or seven seasons in a good spot and build a ton of momentum, the way Teen Titans did.
But as it stands?
Eh. I feel about the same as I did when Thundercats was in its home stretch. Wonderful start, then just totally killed by how it aired.
-
I don't really care for Young Justice, but I felt obliged to post this

Okay, some of you might be mad, but you gotta understand that Cartoon Network accidentally made some people happy with their 20th Anniversary celebration and this cannot be allowed. Their executives feed off of the suffering of their fanbase after all.
-
CN doesn't know how to run a network worth a shit. All the good they got for the 20th annivesary is gone now and alll is left with hate.
DC animation is dead and its not the producers, writers or creators that killed it but the fucking Network. The fucking Network who should be on their fucking knees begging for viewers since Adult swim is the only fucking thing keeping them afloat but no they have a bunch of fucking monkeys for execs.

9/15 - Beyblade: Metal Fury Destroyer Dome (1x60) 1.3/6; The Green Lantern 0.6/3; Young Justice: Invasion 0.8/4
9/22- Pokemon B&W: Rival Destinies 1.5/9; Ben 10: Omniverse 1.8/8; The Green Lantern 1.0/5; Young Justice: Invasion 1.0/5
9/29- Ben 10: Omniverse 1.8/8; Star Wars: Clone Wars 2.1/10; The Green Lantern 1.3/6; Young Justice: Invasion 1.2/5The last was the first Saturday with new episodes, but there was a massive drop after Clone Wars. The ratings for last weekend apparently improved considerably and GL:TAS didn't lose so much of Clone Wars' audience, but the decision was probably made before then and just not announced until now to avoid a bunch of people watching the shows just to keep the block from being put on hiatus.
-
actually i'm thinking that someone's got revamps in mind for the DC block
-
but the decision was probably made before then and just not announced until now to avoid a bunch of people watching the shows just to keep the block from being put on hiatus.
That's not true at all.
It was a last minute schedule change, they had been airing advertisements for DC Nation all week, did not inform any cable networks of the change so everything still said it was airing, and there was also an article in some news site or something published this week along with a clip from the episode of GL that would've aired today.
It is extremely unprofessional of CN to do what they just did after claiming they were going to keep airing new episodes until sometime in December.They did not plan this in advance, not even the producers of the shows were informed and they are pissed as FUCK (try reading some of their twitter feeds if you haven't already, some of them didn't even know about this until the block was supposed to air). They've pretty much screwed over all parties involved in the block.
This is the biggest dick move they've pulled since cancelling SYM-Bionic Titan or not airing the last 5 episode of Generator Rex.
-
actually i'm thinking that someone's got revamps in mind for the DC block
I'm sure they do and the desire to revamp was probably part a desire to focus on future shows and partly due to the poor ratings. The fact that they aired two episodes first makes it seem likely that they wanted to see if adding better leads and new episodes would make a difference.
It didn't (or not enough to change their minds) and they yanked the block off of the air for a few months to retool it. It might even be that they pushed it back until they had more shorts banked in the hopes that intersplicing them would make things work better. Maybe have a Titans segment immediately between the end of Clone Wars and the start of whatever show leads off to keep people from just switching.

@vyse&homunculus:
That's not true at all.
It was a last minute schedule changeThe decision to actually change the programming was almost certainly made yesterday but I suspect the decision to go a different direction if ratings don't improve was probably made at least a week earlier if not longer ago than that.

For those of you who are so enraged that you are willing to turn to villainy/piracy, or at least have an iTunes pass, the episode is available digitally on iTunes and maybe some other sites on the internet too.

Yes, yes I did need it that bad. Thanks Kuma. And now that I've watched it?
YOU SUCK CN! WHY WOULD YOU KEEP THIS EPISODE FROM US?! WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYY?! This would have been just as good an episode to have a hiatus after as "Darkest" was. Hell, it's a better pausing point!
! They got La'Gann, Jaime, Bart, Gar and the human test subjects (including Ty, Virgil and STEPHANIE BROWN. Seriously, check the voice credits at the end. She was the 'unknown blonde' captured in the episode!!) out of the Light's hands. Which is great.
! But M'Gann took Kaldur out with her brain-melty trick. He's a vegetable (NOOOOOOOOOOMYBABY), M'Gann's horrified and knows the whole plan between Dick and Kaldur, and now disguised!Artemis is stuck working alongside the Light. Alone.
! We've learned how Jaime merged with Khaji-Da eight months before "Before the Dawn" (helloooooo nightmare fuel), so that'd make it around August-ish that he became Blue Beetle. Doesn't look like the comics-verse 'you were missing for a year' thing ever happened in YJ, so that makes me feel better. As did the knock-down drag-out battle between him and Dawur/'Black Beetle' because fuck yeah was that ever awesome.
! But Jaime learned the truth about the scarab, and his part in Bart's timeline as the bringer of the 'End of the World' Reach invasion (which most of us suspected with all the Reach slang Bart uses). Him freaking out at the end about it 'being him' and Impulse reassuring him crushed me. ALL THE HUGS FOR JAIME.
! And just as the team is (almost) back together and learning the truth about The Light's partners? The Reach's Negotiator (aka smaller green guy) does exactly as he did in the comics; hides in plain sight by introducing himself to the world's governments. -
Loving the stapler gun.

People have to actually watch the episode before they can be influenced by it.
-
@RobbyBevard:
People have to actually watch the episode before they can be influenced by it.
The ratings of this week, I mean.
-
@Rebecky/Mugen: the reason why Before the Dawn feels like such a good stopping point was because the creators wrote it intending this episode to be the original break/stopping point instead of episode 7.
@Monkey and Spades
Well in this universe, Static didn't have his powers before getting kidnapped, and in his defense he did try to go for that gun to fight Black Beetle.
Plus, well spoilers below.! Comic con trailer showed Static and another guy that was also kidnapped at the same time on some kind of mission using their powers, so I guess the team just got 4-5+ members and maybe a time skip unless those scenes were way later in the season/they're just naturally good at the hero thing.
! An unrelated note, I saw Stephanie Brown was apparently the blonde in the episode. I honestly thought that was Bette. That's been leading to some speculation on Batgirl. And the only reason I know Brown is because I spent awhile looking up everything Batman a couple days before Dark Knight Rises. -
@Money:
The ratings of this week, I mean.
Exactly. Even if it had aired this week, how would it being a good episode have affected ratings this week? People would have to know to tune in for it.
Now, if it was a good episode and it got rerun a couple times, then that might get people to tune in next week to see what happens next… but it being good this week wouldn't really affect the people it drew in any more than it simply being a new episode would.
-
It like how it hinted static n shimmer might join. I thought Tim was Dick for a sec, lol.
-
I thought the same thing, and I didn't realized who the red head was till later on the episode. I first thought she was Miss Martian.
