Film Z will be subbed before this is. Damnit.
One Piece Anime's 2-Hour - Nami Special (25th August)
-
-
Oh, I'm late to the party, but this is so exciting! Quite possibly my favorite arc. I actually just re-watched the original episodes earlier last week, before I knew about this.
I don't mind these condensed re-tellings at all, but probably because the FUNi DVD release of Movie 8 was my first OP experience - it caught my eye in the store and I bought it without researching it. It ended up being my gateway drug, my stairway to heaven, whatever you call it…
-
I've always heard "Naruto" is bigger in North American and Europe and "One Piece" is more popular in Asia. But even in America (and it sounds like to a significant extent in Europe) "Naruto" is getting less popular and "One Piece" is getting more popular. Yes, I mean at least in America that might not be saying much, but I'm noticing it.
I'm certainly noticing this a lot as well. Not saying that Naruto is stagnating in it's products (the dub is already about 2 years behind Japan, and a new movie comes out later this month, plus ya know, the manga always sells well here) or it's distribution, but I think the reason is because, simply, people are getting bored of it. The story right now is moving a lot slower (at least reading it weekly) and the anime hasn't been on TV is almost a year now. Don't get me wrong, I love Naruto, but I've seen myself spending more money on more One Piece products (and my this I mean products released in NA) than Naruto, which is saying something because I would always find myself buying a Naruto Shippuden DVD, movie, or videogame whenever I would order anime products.
Naruto about the individual? I don't think so. I've only read 200 chapter of Naruto, but there was little about the individual explored in that time. You're mixing 'individual themes' with characters being more on their own, without so much support, friendship, and interest in trust and themes.
Yeah the FIRST part of Naruto was all about character growth. As I've stated above, I'm a big Naruto fan, but I can confidently say (without spoiling) that NOTHING happens to anyone that isn't Naruto or Sasuke now. Nothing. Minor things happen to the other characters but only so to build up the upcoming fight between Naruto and the arc's coorisponding antagonist. Doesn't really effect the story quality, but it does make you yearn for more of the other Konoha ninja's interaction within the story. Not saying they don't show up anymore, just not long enough to "shine" ya know?
Kind of a weird thread to be dissecting Naruto huh?
-
Fuck now I wanna get back to watching "Naruto"! It's been a while.
-
Ok, I did my own English translation of this special. The .ass file which includes the timing, styling, etc was shamelessly stolen from the Spanish team The World of Kirano Fansubs, encoded into the .mkv release, so their credits remain on the file. I spent the past week translating and polishing the script in my spare time. Seeing as how there is still no English scene release, I thought I'd share it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?ui48g1yu3gbi8o7
This is just the .ass subtitling file. The total RAW timing is 1:46:04, so anything with that particular time should be compatible. Or just use the spanish subbed release and switch the subtitle stream to this file.
-
Mr. Luffy, YOU…ARE...THE MAN!
Thanks, dude! -
haha haha HAHA
the file name (Nami.ass)
yes i am immature
but seriously fantastic work, thank you.
-
hits Ctrl + F
searches for "nakama"
no results foundI AM PLEASED.
Looking forward to watching your sub. Thank you so much.
-
hits Ctrl + F
searches for "nakama"
no results foundI've noticed that word it included more in this special than it was in the manga or TV anime, usually in scenes involving Nami. Oddly, the Spanish sub left it untranslated.
As far as translating the word, I leaned toward "friend" on most instances considering the special's title is "Tears of a Navigator and the Bond of Friends", though I'm still not 100% sure I chose the most appropriate translation every time.
-
Mr. Luffy, you are my God!!!! Thanks a bunch, you saved my week!
-
For anyone who might be trouble getting the English subtitles to play, remember this:
-
In my experience with .ASS subtitles over the years, they need to be the exact same name as the media file you're trying to play for them to work. My file was only loading the Spanish subtitles, I changed the file name of the .ASS file to the name of the movie file, and wala. They're both named "Nami". You can change them to whatever you want though, as long as they're both the same. For example, I usually just copy the name of the movie (.mkv) file, then click rename on the .ASS file, and paste it in there so that I have the original file format in the name.
-
They need to be in the exact same folder, and I find it best to create a folder exclusively for the movie for organization's sake, or if you're like me you have multiple 2 TB external hard drives devoted to this stuff!
-
If after you've done this the file is taking a long time to load, exit fullscreen and make sure there isn't an error message. If there IS and it says something about "growth" subtitles, just click OK on that.

The spanish subs are hardsubs so I can hardly see the english subs on top of the spanish subs. Does anyone know how to extract the spanish hardsubs from the video?
-
Thank you so much Mr. Luffy for the subs and Demonicpoodle for such an informative post! It really worked! I honestly had no clue how to attach a subtitle file to a video so it was really helpful! Thanks again!
-
@OPF:
The spanish subs are hardsubs so I can hardly see the english subs on top of the spanish subs. Does anyone know how to extract the spanish hardsubs from the video
Try using VLC Player and choosing Video > Subtitle Track > Open File… and choosing the .ass file. It adds an additional separate subtitle stream to the video on Track 2.
For Media Player Classic, follow DemonPoodle's tips (Same file names, same folder) and got to View > Options > Subtitles > Misc > and select Ignore Embedded Subtitles. That way only the external subs will show up.
If you want to completely get rid of the Spanish subs, download and install the freeware mkvmerge, , start the application, open the subbed release, deselect the the embedded sub file (S_TEXT/ASS), and "start muxing." A new duplicate .mkv file will be created without the Spanish subs.
-
Wow, this is great. Thanks Mr. Luffy!
-
oh shit, it's time! now i just need to browse through the thread and find the raw ..
-
Mr. Luffy I love you
-
That was great. The fights were a bit rushed, but that was to be expected. The focus was definitely on Nami's past and there is only so much you can put into 2 hours.
-
Just watched all of it. I loved it. Really paid homage to the source material. Beautiful animation, the animation seemed more aware of its surroundings and was less focused on close-ups.
I'll always prefer the original but hey, nice to see an updated version of it. That unexpected cut at the end was great and hyped me up!
I must say that I watched this at a perfect time… The end of Hody's pseudo-reign.
Again Mr. Luffy, thank you!
-
So I finally sat down to watch this tonight. I finished downloading the 720p raw that was posted in this thread and managed to get the subtitles working perfectly. I got an hour into the show, got to the part where Nami is running to Arlong after the Marines take her money and suddenly a commercial break. The raw had an advertisement for the special in the middle of it and it threw off the subtitles. I cannot describe my rage right now. I want to finish this but the subtitles are about thirty or forty seconds off. Oh God the anger when that happened. Anyway now I'm downloading the spanish subbed version in hopes that I'll be able to finish this later this weekend.
On a less angry note what I saw was really well done. They did a good job of condensing the story for the first hour or so. Looking forward to see how the fights are handled. And big thanks to Mr. Luffy for the subs. Good work man, truly appreciate the effort
-
Yeah, as I mentioned before, the compatible raw is about 1:46:04, give or take one second. There are some other raws out there that are longer which include that long commercial/preview segment you mentioned.
Frankly, the shorter raw is preferred because the commercial segment spoils a lot of what's coming up and is just a needless interruption.
I'll try uploading a compatible HD raw shortly for those that accidentally run into this problem along with ddl with the subs already imbedded.
-
that commercial raw pissed me off. It was half-way through the film. I had to download a program in order to cut the raw out but then it fit.
Thanks a lot mr. luffy i just have 2 questions.
- why did you translate Gatling gun as machine gun?
- Does anyone know a program of adding subs to the video. It's so i can watch it on my xbox with friends
-
Thanks a lot mr. luffy i just have 2 questions.
- why did you translate Gatling gun as machine gun?
Mistake on my part. I'll update it to Gatling.
Edit: Updated it to the correct Gatling. Should be an easy fix for those who already downloaded it.
-
Says file is missing. Are you still updating it?
-
Guys, I've fixed Mr Luffy's subtitle Gatling Gun and commercial 30sec off issues.
Download *.srt file here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/uf3r5uThanks to Mr Luffy. :)
-
Sorry about that. For some reason, it was linking to the old file I deleted despite the link location being correct. I've tested now and it should be working. I'll post it again to make sure:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ui48g1yu3gbi8o7
I should have the encoded file up today on mediafire later today depending on how fast it's uploaded.
- Does anyone know a program of adding subs to the video. It's so i can watch it on my xbox with friends
The software mkvmerge I posted about earlier will do the job. Just drag and drop the .mkv file and the .ass file and "start muxing"
-

-
Thanks for the subs, very cool. And a very nice special, neato I dare say.
-
@Mr.:
The software mkvmerge I posted about earlier will do the job. Just drag and drop the .mkv file and the .ass file and "start muxing"
I have it as an mp4 file rather than a mkv so i could watch it on my xbox. Or does that not matter
-
I tested it with an mp4 file and it seems to work also. However, on the "Output Filename" textbox indicating where the file will be saved, change the output from .mkv to .mp4 since the default output is .mkv. Also, make sure to output into a different folder since it seems to have problems using the same output folder as the input folder.
-
you could always convert it with something like handbrake or freemake video converter
-
upload is dead..
-
They should be working now.
-
Caught this on tumblr.
EDIT: Just for those wondering about the source, eventually found the image on Amazon JP
-
That cover art sort of oversells the special. :p
-
Looks amazing! I've always wanted Funi to bring the Japanese box art used for the DVDs over, instead of the images that they use currently, they are so much more authentic.
Also thank you for providing the subtitles :)

I just found out about the subs and I thought to also share my 23 seconds of work
The following has the commercial fix (for the same raw as rizu's post) based on the above version by Mr Luffy
The difference with rizu is that it is an *.ass file with the effects[OPC-Raws]One_Piece_Episode_of_Nami_Kokaishi_no_Namida_to_Nakama_no_Kizuna[CX_1280x720_VFR_H264_AAC]_[06BCA544].ass

Assuming anyone still cares at this point… The Yibis-sub of this special has been released. (And don't mind the topic title, that's just Socky making a joke. The word "Nakama" does not appear anywhere in the translation.)

Well, I had been waiting for it, so thanks! Although I'll probably watch it tomorrow ;)

Finally! A big thanks.

Yes! I've been waiting for a scene release. Should be well worth the wait.

why yibis never use the word nakama? in the end when luffy defeat arlong luffy clearly said NAMI YOU ARE OUR NAKAMA, and yibis dubbed NAMI YOU ARE ONE OF US, they don't like the word too much XD
-

Because this is an ENGLISH fansub.
-
in the end when luffy defeat arlong luffy clearly said NAMI YOU ARE OUR NAKAMA
I didn't realize Luffy was speaking Engrish for that scene in the Japanese version…and wrongfully throwing in "nakama" at the end of it.
/sarcasm of course but do you honestly buy into the misconception that nakama is some special and deep word? "One of us" captures the feeling perfectly.
