it is not likely at all that monet joins the strawhats.

Im pretty sure there is a clear distinction between Swordsman and Samurai in one piece. Zoro didnt even know what a samurai was until brook told him. He is a Swordsman, like any pirate crew should have. A samurai in this manga seems to have weird effects when describing swordplay, as well as the iconic dress wear. So kinnemon would be the Samurai, Zoro would be the Swordsman, and Brook technically is a fencer. Really all different ways that they use their swords.

Im talking about crew positions

All Samurai are Swordsmen, but not all Swordsmen are Samurai. That's pretty much it. Aside from the fire, Kinemon's swordsmanship is not unique at all. Zoro focuses on strong slashes while Brook focuses on fast, piercing attacks. Kinemon's style overlaps a lot with Zoro's in this regard.
And 2nd Swordsman? Really? That makes Kinemon sound even more redundant than he is right now as a potential new-mate.
-
I am surprised about the fact that nobody seems to mention the left side theory (all Nakamas having a feature on their left side) anymore, in the past it always was part of the New Nakama discussion. Jinbe obviously fits that criterion (if you can call it that), Kinemon and Monet on the other hand do not.
Because Franky doesn't have such a feature, Sanji flipped his hair, and because Brook broke it entirely. (His skull crack is on the right.)
it used to be a thing but it isn't anymore.

Wait, since when did this become a thing? xD
EDIT: Nevermind, I read that as "samurai" for some reason.

Seriously man?
It's Zoro.

Did Robin ever have something "on her left side"? I don't remember anything.
For that matter, what about Usopp? Both are pretty symmetrical if I recall.

Usopp wears a striped armband.
Then we have Nami and her log pose, Zoro and his earrings, Chopper and that metal band in left horn, Sanji and his bangs…

This may not be for Monet joining, maybe at the most some kind of alliance, but since Luffy's alone with Monet right now, he has a chance to interact with her on some personal level. What I'm thinking happened is that since Monet was able to communicate with Doflamingo after he called her, either A). She was able to temporarily incapacitate Luffy enough for to respond (which we all know seems highly unlikely) or B). She was able to form some sort of truce with Luffy long enough for her to answer Doflamingo. Option B seems more plausible and it would mean that Monet isn't as loyal to Doflamingo as most think, maybe even possibly betraying Doflamingo later on.
The way I see it is, at least partially, the reason why Monet acts so calm all the time even when referring to possibly being killed is because she was brainwashed by Doflamingo or one of his cronies into doing his dirty work. That could also explain Baby 5's resentment towards Dofla by snapping out of the brainwashing process and coming to her senses.
I don't know, it's just I think Monet seems way too calm given her situation and it's not because of her natural personality like Robin; even she shows emotion sometimes at the thought of her own life ending.
Luffy being incapacitated isn't out of the question as it's happened before by random characters like Miss Goldenweek. And I doubt she needs to form a truce just to take a snail call. She's hasn't really done anything to show that she's not loyal to Doflamingo, and even her facial expressions look fairly sinister in some panels. Only nice thing she's done so far was not go after Chopper, but who knows why(though I won't lie, if it's because she passed him that note: I will squeal with joy). And I seriously doubt she or anyone in their crew is brainwashed. Can't comment on Baby 5 since we have nothing to clue us in as to why she was all psycho bitch in her debut. Monet has just come off as a passive villain with ambiguous interests to me.
That said, I'm rooting for Perona to finally reveal herself from the Thousand Sunny's storage room. Watch her show up when Franky comes back.

Umm, FelRes, I think your convenient amnesia made you forget about this. http://mangafox.me/manga/one_piece/v65/c658/1.html , and we all know that it's not walking distance from Thriller Bark to Punk Hazard-v-;;.

Momo is now confirmed to be an infant, at least he was before he turned into a dragon. What would be the argument for him joining?

Changing the thread title because "new-mate" was driving me nuts with the awfulness of it.

That's why we use Comic Sans MS.

So went through the thread and Doflamingo Boobs girl is already being discussed for nakama…

I remember someone saying once "I think that Fishman Warlord will be the next to join the crew" from some anon person waaay back when I first started. I've been keeping an eye out for a fishman warlord, and somehow didn't notice they were talking about Jinbei/Jimbei/Jimbo/Fishcakes/Whatever you want to call him until right when I caught up.

Like… entirely beyond the point of this thread, but doesn't "Jinbe" sound like "Jumba" from Lilo & Stitch? Jinbe sorta resembles Jumba. Jinbe and an alien will join. Maybe that fox-like alien from Enel's cover story. It's totally out there, but that alien has my favorite design in all of One Piece.

luffy and zolo were still bad asses when they were that young
-
Why can't someone as young as those kids join the crew?
If Luffy is anything like Shanks he won't recruit a child for obvious reasons. They are up against an evil world government and the Yonkou. Just as Zoro said back in Enies Lobby, they are not playing pirates here.
On the other hand Doflamingo's olive girl needs an opponent:ninja:

What he said.
Also, we've already got the fact that Luffy, Usopp, Chopper, Franky, and Brook all act like kids to begin with (technically Chopper is still a kid, he's 17 right?)
-
Oh, that. Thought it was obvious I was kidding.
My bad FelRes, bad memories of AGOG coming back and all made me paranoid.
-
Eh, I don't agree with that. Luffy's way more flippant than Shanks. He tried to invite Gaimon of all people, and utility wise, Gaimon had nothing. Basically it boiled down to Gaimon being interesting enough and having a dream. (Not to mention all the other various things that Luffy has joke-invited. Heck if some inanimate object were cool looking enough, I bet Luffy would invite it as a joke.) If the right child were to appear, I don't see any precedent (off the top of my head at least) from Luffy that would contradict his or her inclusion. (Even taking into account chopper's transitory physique/separate species, the crew never questioned his age before his inclusion. Oda could have arbitrarily stated chopper's age as 10 and it wouldn't interfere with his character.) In fact I could even see some sort of precocious/talented child like Miss Goldenweek fitting in with the SH's antics/dynamics just fine. Maybe Oda would have some reservations, but not Luffy.

I really thought Shirahoshi was going to join. With her abilities it seems REALLY careless to just leave her there. As soon as the word gets out its gonna be open season for the bad asses in the NW to try to obtain a way to summon SEA KINGS

About Shirahoshi; The SH
s would need like a Sunny V2.0 ( not that Franky wouldn
t be able) but still. I think the logistics to do it would be a burden. In any case I have a feeling that by the end of the series Shirahoshi will be one of the most powerful women in OP and somehow it will be reflected in Luffy slowly adjusting the way he calls her. I truly feel a Coby vibe from her and we all know what that means… -

What's worse, leaving Shirahoshi in her native kingdom where few foreigners visit OR leaving her in the open constantly in the New World?
The latter. As much as of an ally she is to the Straw Hats, she would be a burden to their adventure. How would they go incognito if there's a giant mermaid swimming with them? So much attention would be drawn. Also remember slavery is still a problem, and mermaids fetch a hefty price.
Btw, barely anyone knows of her power to summon Sea Kings.
-

Ah come on, she can hide under the sea surface if necessary.
!
-
So far, two potential crew members have not been able to join due to their links to royalty. (Vivi and Shirahoshi) Both are princess' and both had the desire to join the SHs, but were held back because they were next in line to rule their respective kingdoms. Its funny how oda has c**kblocked fans twice now. Also as a counter argument to the whole "Shirahoshi is too big to join", keep in mind that Blackbeard recuited SanJuan Wolf, a man who is as big as FRIGGIN MARINEFORD. So I don't think size would really be a legit downside to her being a crew member.
The real legitimate problems would be her personality and her battle prowess. Shirahoshi is too much of a wallflower to be a pirate and would shy away from most people and situations, INCLUDING battle. She also has little control over her ability to summon Sea Kings and frankly this is a good thing. All the crew members excluding Nami, had some form of skill that was useful in battle letting the audience know they could hold their own. (Even Ussop) As cool as it would be for a giant mermaid to join (I'd seriously want that) there's too many factors working against it.
-
I don't see anyone until now, besides Jinbe. I would like to know more about Bonney, that I believe "could" have a chance to join if her path crosses the SH, now that she is…prisoner? a noble slave? a princess? a "add whatever you want"? I'm waiting for more developments...

I believe shes an escaped prisoner
-
Bonney will definitely meet the SHs in one form again, whether it is as an ally, an enemy or even a candidate for NN is something we just have to wait for
-
Doesn't Jewelry Bonney have her own crew, ship and jolly roger? Not to mention she's one of the 11 supernovas. How come people are putting her up as a candidate?

She seems to be a lone fugitive, and Jinbe has a crew, and was a SHICHIBUKAI!

Not anymore.
I don't care if she join,I just hope she have some interesteng or at least wacky backstory.
With her devil fruit the possibilities are endless.
