I wonder which scenes they will cut, since the whole Arlong arc definetly doesn't fit into a two hours special.
I hope they cut all the scenes with that little boy and the shark on darts scene^^

I hope they don't cut Commodore Pudding. Even a few seconds would be enough.

The agony having to wait for a sub :( If I ever have enough motivation to learn a 3rd language it's going to be japanese ^^
-
This 1GB 720p for some reason is only audio on a PS3 -_______-

Thanks Sanwise ;-) –-

The subs will probably take a little while longer. It's not that no one is trying to sub it, it's just that a regular One Piece episode comes out a few day after it's Japanese air in HD with subs. And that's only what, a half an hour? And this is roughly 4 half hours, with better animation. So a little longer of a wait is expected.
Granted, this material has been reused a bunch of times, so it shouldn't take that long to translate.
-
4 hours? It's half that length.
-
4 Half Hours. Firecrouch.
-
I remember it used to take a week just for a 23 minute episode of OP to get translated. I'm so glad those days are over with.
-
At least they aren't waiting for a dvd/bluray release to sub it. Looking forward to watching this in a few days.
-
Just finished watching. I liked it a lot. The new animation added in the extra cinematic element to the opposed animation from the late 90's. Some things were a bit rushed, especially the beginning, but hey it was expected. Some things from the original arc were cut out completely to save time, as in
! Sanji destroying the rock around Luffy's legs before Arlong throws him into the water, as opposed to Genzo and Nojiko trying to hammer Luffy free. I can see why it was cut too since it is a time consuming scene and doesn't amount to much; which is also why I'm fine with not having to watch it again. The battles between the Straw Hats and their respective Fishman opponents were also cut down to just the final movie being shown, and the fight with Luffy and Arlong wasn't long either.
The flashback is done even better this time though. The animation makes the scene even more memorable, and Belle-mere at the end still gets to me every time.
The "march to Arlong Park", as it has been dubbed, was less epic than the anime version, but again time constraints and the what-have-you.
All in all it was a great watch. The ending with
! the fast-forward to the beginning of the Fishman Island arc with Nami telling Luffy they are ready to set sail is a nice touch as well. Just there to provoke fans into watching said arc though.
I loved it. And I know you all are waiting for subs, but it's pretty easy to tell what's being said. At least it was for me, but then again I've read and re-read the Arlong arc thousands of times already

delicious nami boob squish o3o

Any subbed version yet?
-
-
I was bored, so I put this together, I cut the new We Are Remix down to a 2:30 "TV Size" to see how it would sound:
I've also done this for the 2011 version a few months back:
-
I'm just wondering, has any sub group openly announced they were tackeling the project?
Thanks in advance guys. For the record, I'm not being impatient because I know it takes time to translate and subtitle something, I was just curious.

Yibis is doing it. Though considering the length and amount of dialogue, coupled with the fact that we're having trouble releasing the episodes on time as it is, chances are it'll still take a while…
-
I love how they animated Sanji's combo attack against Kurobi. Overall I enjoyed it
-
Just watched a brazillian sub and thought it was excellent. Great art, animation was top notch when it mattered and very good, sober direction. They managed to pull off the right amount of drama and emotion the way the Alabasta movie didn't. It doesn't feel rushed or confusing at all and works nicely as a stand alone story, even for people completely unfamiliar with the series. So, it's one of the best possible choices to get them hooked.

At first when I saw Luffy not being thrown into the water, I was a little disappointed (for some odd reason), but after re-watching it, I felt the exact same way.
I really liked this special, a lot of nice touching up, especially with the! scenes of Bellemere getting shot and abused by Arlong. They depicted the severity of the situation beautifully.

Fantastic, really good to know. I thought it would have been odd if it went un-subbed. If you count the One Piece X Toriko Crossover Special II as the last One Piece special, that really only got subbed due to Anime-Destiny subs only being affiliated with the _Toriko_ fansubs. I was a little concerned seeing as how, like I said, that was the only reason it got subbed. No One Piece fansub touched it.
-
The special I most want subbed that has gone years with out one is the OP X DB cross over where they fight Enel.
The quality is much to poor for anyone to even to attempt to sub it though… -
Some comparisons

Can you show us some screenshots?

Wow, a pretty well-edited cam capture. Probably as good as it will get for a while, it not ever.
Seriously, though this is not a true OVA. It was footage from an interactive theme park attraction, similar to Back to the Future: The Ride. These are never released on their own because they are meant to be part of the ride experience an not stand-alone entertainment.
Some theme park attractions that take place in a movie theater such as Shrek 4-D and Marvin Martian in the Third Dimension have been know to be released as home entertainment, but the unique and unusual way the One Piece ride uses 5 separate monitors to create a panoramic vista of Tokyo (police officer Ryo-san's POV) coinciding with one large monitor showing the close-up shots of Luffy, Enel, and Goku. That alone would be very difficult to translate into a releasable transfer that could be viewed on TV screens, but Shenlong is an animatronic that couldn't really show up in such a release outside of its voice.
It's also likely that the 6 separate monitors are playing 6 separate video feeds, so combining them to fit on an average widescreen television along with the center monitor is probably more work that Toei is willing to invest on a 10 minute (or longer) curio.

The thing about rides like these is that the best POV ones draw you in, make you feel like your part of the experience as the action goes on on screen. The worst ones like Sherk 4-D, is basically watching an exclusive movie short while the ride goes back and forth. I don't consider that a ride, just a movie theater with moving seats. This one seems to have a bit of both traits since it does bother to try to keep you emmersed in it (the Shelong model being a good 4th wall touch) but at the same time somewhat distracting with the (though still very nicely animated) fight with Eneru. But eh, it still a nice bit of interactivity.

Hey thanks for posting links to what I was talking about guys.
I just got home and caught up with this thread.
Also…Those spoiler images have subs in them....Is it finally subbed?! -

I noticed the same, but I ended up watching a part of it unsubbed. :X I only watched less than 30 minutes of it though. That said I'm still waiting for the subs.

Those are the subs of the original.

@Galaxy:

Uh…its a comparison shot of the original AND the remake, both of which have subtitles. So no, you're incorrect there are subs on those spoiler images of the 2 hour special.

Watched it a few days ago, despite hardly understanding a thing.
Definitely loved it and I'm glad they did it. Nami deserved it and this is the arc that got me into One Piece after all. -

I think yibis has it translated and subbed, but they haven't released it yet because they aren't finished with QC and such.

I'm quite sure the subbed two pics aren't from the special, but from the flashback episode of Nami before the timeskip (where she remembered what Luffy did for her). Because this just isn't Nakatanis style.
-
Yeah, all the pictures from Luffy stopping Nami from mutilating herself on down are from episode 508. That's clearly Atsuko Kawamura's artwork there.
