do you think that this game would be a good way to get someone who doesn't follow One Piece into the series?? cause im considering recommending to a friend whose only reason for not getting into One Piece now is length. I feel like if he plays it though, it'll motivate him to read it
One Piece: Musou/Pirate Warriors - PS3
-
-
Well if this friend likes Musou games I think yes, cause it sums the story well up.
It lefts some arcs out of course but a friend of mine watched me playing it and after explaining some facts he got into the series. -
Well by setting up to fail, i mean in a mass market sense. Like you said, the ones that will get it are probably those who knew about it already. I don't think it will do as well as Gundam or FotNS though. I think making it download only in the states, is a bad idea. I'm sure even the second Fist of the North Star game that was announced will get a disc release. The announcement for the second FotNS got more notice on sites than the OP game. It just seems like it has been pushed less than their other properties of the Warriors franchise.
You make it sound like this is game of the year material, also… Gundam and Fist of the North Star (surprisingly, since they only showed that horrible english dub on the action channel) have a huge following stateside.
One Piece, not so much. To top it off, most One Piece games are mediocre at best (and the ones that are good don't even sell well), so it's not a bad marketing decision to expect a fewer return than other game titles.
-
The game is coming out September 20, 2012 to Europe. I will be importing since US version is digital and still coming out later lolll!

The only market One Piece has big here in the states is the manga.
Other then that, anime/video games are really just for the small time fans. There not going to push it too high.

What the hell are you talking about? "One Piece" clearly has a bigger fan-following in the States than "FOTNS" and "Gundam". "Fist of the North Star" is popular with old-school anime fans, a niche within a niche. Contrary to popular belief, "Gundam" isn't really popular in the States. It has a dedicated fan-following, but as a franchise it's not that successful here. "Gundam Wing" did well, even "SD Gundam" got good ratings despite the bad rep it has with fans, but for the most part "Gundam" didn't get good ratings on Cartoon Network. 4Kids "One Piece" did really well on Cartoon Network in comparison.
And yes, "One Piece" games are mostly mediocre, but a mediocre series can sell really well if it's part of big franchise. I did just say "One Piece" has a bigger fanbase, but as a franchise it hasn't proven itself here. It's not a big enough property to compensate for its mediocrity, I'll give you that.

How do you know the US version is coming out later? A date hasn't been announced yet.

What are you talking about? It's not just the manga, on that note the manga sells well here compared to most on the American market but we don't know how much exactly and we know it doesn't get the same high consistent rankings as "Naruto" or "Sailor Moon".
I wouldn't call the anime a small-time thing. It's one of the most highly-viewed animated shows on Hulu, and while it doesn't get those same high numbers as the Seth McFarlene shows and "Naruto Shippuden" I still see it up there among the other top shows in general on Hulu. The anime DVDs sold well enough to get the much hyped Season 4, and going by Amazon rankings the DVD Collections lately have been selling pretty damn good. Video games, for the years between the release of "Unlimited Adventure" and now, have had non-existant releases in America, so it goes without saying they're small-time.

According to this page: http://koei.wikia.com/wiki/One_Piece:_Pirate_Warriors it says Europe is getting it September and USA is getting it November. I am importing it from Europe based on that assumption anyways. I know a wiki can be edited. :/

The original announcement for the international release said it's coming out in Europe and North America in November. So yeah, it's wiki being wiki.
-
i hope comes out in september cause then i can get it for my birthday
-
I got my copy a few days ago and I played the shit out of it. I really enjoy the game overall, though some of the supers (Robin's second one) and a few characters (Chopper and Jimbe) just didn't really click with me when I was playing as them. is it the best One Piece game? Not really but its up there imo. They should definitely cut down on the action stages too, I didn't care for the Alabasta one and then having to do the Water Seven one right after. Overall I really like the game and hope they improve the series as it goes on.
-
Robin's lvl 2 Super is probably one of the most useful ones. Especially when it comes to the fact you can pretty much OHKO some of the more annoying bosses in the game with it (Kizaru. I'm looking at you)
-
I'll give that to you, but its also really easy to miss your target. There was unspeakable rage when I went for the level 2 super on Kizaru (I was already tired of fighting this son of a bitch for the 100th time and Luffy punched him out of range. Actually, that happens a lot. With a lot of supers. Very frustrating moments there, lol.
-
eh RObin's lvl 2 I can't seem to use it well I stick to her first super, or just combo the hell outta shite, no suuppppas for me :P
-
I'm having a hard time getting all these damn coins. How do you get the New World version coins of the Straw Hats and their Jolly Rogers? Is there any stage in particular that's good for farming coins?
-

750+ chain combo and some luck. Later Zoro stages are the best for it because they have the most enemies.

Play-asia has a listing for the US version of the game.

Wait this doesn't make any sense it's supposed to be download-only.
-

Maybe it's like the code you buy at a store and then put it on PSN so you can download it, instead of using a credit card
-

It's getting a disk in Europe and the flag just means "In English".
-
Ah ok thanks for clearing that up
-
OK, these coins are a pain in the ass. Seriously, for whatever fucking reason I cannot get Brook's coin. Do any of the coins need skill or is it truly just sheer luck?
-
@RobbyBevard:

There's a seperate listing for the european version though. I think they just made a mistake is all.

It's sheer luck.
I remember I was farming coins others already had. Just keep going and sooner or later they will drop -
I talked to someone from Namco Bandai at Anime Expo today and while he's not that directly involved with the American release of "Pirate Warriors" he seems to think the download-only thing has more to do with not having a dub, not necessarily a niche game status. He didn't know why there's no dub though.

European collector edition.

European collector edition.

Oh nice. I wonder how much? I kinda wish we get the themes as well. I needed a new ps3 theme

European collector edition.

SOLD. Importing and buying on PSN. Where do we buy this collector's edition?
-
Interesting. I already have a few Sunny models (which include mini versions of the crew) but if its free may get another with the game.
-
Where is that from?
-
On Amazon italy, so will most likely include the English version as with every other version in Europe I assume.
http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0089KCAX8/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=
I think it was 80 euros from Amazon, but it's now 110 euros from an Amazon seller =/
EDIT: Looking at: http://multiplayer.com/videogiochi/playstation-3/one-piece-pirate-warriors-collector-s-edition.html
It looks that we will be getting the same packaging design as the Gold Edition PS3 box, only you get a ship inside instead of a console XD
-
Confirmed, the game will be on sale the 21th September in Europe, normal edition and Collector Edition.
-
More English gameplay
And Luffy still defeated 100 enemy… -

Just in time for my birthday :D

Well, looks like I'm importing the collector's edition from Europe.
I still plan on the purchasing the game from PSN in November, but I just can't resist that Sunny model. -
He didn't know why there's no dub though.
Because it costs money.
Sheerly renting studio time, and then having all the anime actors come in (And the game has dozens of different characters, some for only a few lines, many of whom haven't even appeared and been cast in the english dub yet like Jinbe, Hancock or Brook.) and then the time implementing those voices into the games would raise the production price tens of thousands of dollars… with no discernible increase in sales to benefit from it.
Koei has done a ton of these games. They know the size of the fanbase for their games and the expected sales numbers... and how much their particular fanbase does or doesn't care about having the actual disk.
Same thing happened with Warriors Orochi 3.
-
I just checked the German page and found this:
Spieler können sich auch mit ihrem “nakama” („Freund“ in der One Piece-Sprache) verbünden
which translates to "Players can team up with their Nakama ("Friend" in the One Piece language)".
There isn't an English page yet. N-B UK seems to always be slower than the others.

Thanks. I was unsure if it was just going to be a French exclusive, because Special Editions like Skyward Sword had the USK symbol everywhere, since the SEs were for all of Europe.
-
Seems the limited edition game comes with those new grandline ships from banpresto, might be wrong tho.
-
haha One Piece-Sprache
-
Haha "Big Success" reminds me of Borat
-
Damn this Sunny model looks nice, but I'm still glad with my Japanese Treasure Box.
But I'm glad that the European Version gets a little special treatment -
Stupid question (sorry, don't use my PS3 that much), but if I order the European version (I live in NA), will the game still be playable?
-
Yeah you can play other region's games with your PS3
-
Damn this Sunny model looks nice, but I'm still glad with my Japanese Treasure Box.
But I'm glad that the European Version gets a little special treatmentlucky. they should have brought the japanese treasure box and made it for europe too. and north america…i bet fans would be all of that ship. and include the ship too as a "sorry we took so long to get this game out here"
-
Confirmed, the game will be on sale the 21th September in Europe, normal edition and Collector Edition.
is it safe to assume that it will be released at around the same time in australia?
@Fuwa:

the game is region free but the DLC usually region lock so you need to buy the DLC from EU PSN
-
lucky. they should have brought the japanese treasure box and made it for europe too. and north america…i bet fans would be all of that ship. and include the ship too as a "sorry we took so long to get this game out here"
But… they didn't take that long. Its the usual 7 month transition time for a Koei game.

One Piece Pirate Warriors coming to US PSN September 25th!
-
So we're getting it around the same time it launches in the UK?
Sweet! That was pretty cool trailer. But what was up with that "Damned Restaurant" translation?
-
One Piece Pirate Warriors coming to US PSN September 25th!
so I see by that trailer, we can now confirm we're not getting the english dubbed Funimation voice actors in the game ?
-
No. It was confirmed in the first trailer that that wasn't happening.
