The people over on the BLEACH/Naruto thread keep reading it because they enjoy it. They enjoy picking it apart, it's fun. By heaping shit on the series, they're having a blast.
Not really. Its because it was good once and we're curious to see how it ends.
If the series were really bad and without any potential from the start, they wouldn't be read at all now, (At least not by nearly as many people) like numerous other series that start bad and never develop a following.
We don't ENJOY them being bad. They just are, and they refuse to end, so the waiting that has turned into a trainwreck is just the end result and we have to make due at this point. The downfall was slow and gradual, there wasn't an obvious switch over the course of one chapter, it was a slow degrade over the course of years. And it SEEMS like either series is always on the verge of ending in the next 4 months… though they never do. Personally, I haven't even read either series in two or three years now.
But no one STARTED reading Naruto by going "I hear this series is terrible and dissapointing on every level after a decent start! I think I'll read 60 volumes of it now!" Almost everyone who reads it currently started reading it years ago while it was still being touted as a good series, before it was as bad as it is now.
The same can be said for Linkara. Anyone who watches goes "Oh hey, a guy tearing apart terrible 90's comic books! That sounds fun!" No one tunes in for the wreck of a storyline taking up the majority of a review. (Other reviewers also have storylines, but they tend to be shorter, and... well, more fun.)

@Nex:
Todd posted "Top Ten Groin Shots in Movies"
http://blip.tv/todds-pop-song-reviews/top-ten-groin-shots-in-movies-6230234 Uhhhhh
Oh God, all the shots from Nr. 2 … freaking amazing.
-
Well, it depends on the person really, but I continue to read BLEACH even after it's obviously become a unintelligible bugfuck trainwreck because I enjoy taking it apart alongside other denizens of the thread. Were it not for the thread, I wouldn't give a shit how either series ended and I'd just drop them without turning back.
Basically, any series that inspires APers to post a long series of joke posts about how Aizen continually stabs Momo in sitcom format is a winner for my attention
-
You don't even need to read the series then if thats the only thing you enjoy about them. I don't.
-
Also, it bears mentioning that I had very little affection for Naruto until well into Part II (which is when I caught up, the Pain arc), so that's why I don't care about Naruto as much. Whereas BLEACH occupies way more brainspace for me. BLEACH is the series that introduced me to JUMP series (through the anime). So your point is correct, too.

This is another thing that gives Spoony's fanbase such a bad rep. They are furious about storylines, they insult TGWTG collaborators and insist that Spoony should just go back to 2008 and do 10-minute game reviews (with a shitty camera to add credibility).
I mean, who can claim that Spoony's fights with Tidus and Yuna weren't funny as hell? Or Dr. Insano being elected as president.
But the problem is Spoony can give his ocasional characters some wit and charm. Linkara has Dr. Linksano, which is like Dr. Insano on anti depression meds, 90's Kid, who is funny, and Harvey who just…..exists.
-
Yeah I'm susprised Harvey finevoice still exists, he really should just be retired as a character
-

I think Linkara just likes doing the accent.
-
I reckon he must got a lot of conflicting messages from fans/viewers
"I love Harvey Finevoice, he's fun!"
"Dude, what's up with that useless character Harvey Finevoice"

His review was my least favourite AT4W to date. Okay, you're a singer, are you gonna mention that in every single damn cutaway ? Jesus.
-
Yeah, that was not so good. Honestly I skip most AT4W episodes anyway, I only really care when he reviews the big flops like Countdown or really wacky shit like the Canadian anti-tax superhero one

Speakin' of which, how are we likin' this Battle of Bludhaven review?
Frankly, I just love when he does reviews of comics that focus on iconic heroes that are meant to be taken seriously (you know, not the PSA/tie-in stuff).
-
That Nut review was awesome. I know Todd is generally the music guy but I don't think any other reviewer on the site could have made that episode work as well as Todd did. Bravo.

Just watched NChick's Top 10 Boy Bands review, and…
! this is really hard for me to admit as a heterosexual male, but I'm glad that Backstreet Boys came in first, because I genuinely do like a lot of their songs. Of course, I think my manliness is somewhat redeemed in that I had never even heard of half the bands on the list.
! Also, it's kinda funny that Lindsay didn't mention that 98 Degrees sang the ending song for Mulan. -
@RobbyBevard:

But how would you keep up with the new Joke material, and know their context? If I had dropped Naruto after Rescue Sasuke II and tuned in on the thread to see 600 million armadillo rainbow, I wouldn't know what the fuck was going on. I might get explained to me that there was this female akatsuki member who contributed nothing and made a rainbow at the end of a totally pointless battle involving 600 million paper bombs and chuckle for a bit, but you need to read the series, and see the saga of a completely superfluous characters hilariously overblown final stand to get the most out of it- and if you want to contribute yourself.
Really, at this point I'd drop eiether series if their quality increased much- they would be "upgraded" from trainwrecks spewing an endless supply of things to make fun at, to mediocre and boring.
Indeed, Bleach is now objectively better than the fullbring arc, and all the more of a snorefest for it.
-
@The:

Following the thread keeps me pretty up to date with summaries and discussions and gifs.
I occasionally take a look at an actual chapter if its described as completely insane and needing context.

Isn't it odd how for modern bubblegum pop acts the guys tend to be in groups and the girls are usually solo?

You saying you don't remember Hanson?

The only girl groups I can think of are Spice Girls and Pussycat Dolls.
-

I never really thought of Hanson as a boy band. Because they played instruments and didn't have that really heavily stuidofied psuedo R&B sound. And if I remember right they came a little before all that jazz anyway.
-
There were a bunch of British girl pop groups in the early '00s. Girls Aloud, Atomic Kitten, Sugababes, etc.

Not a one of them made it across the Atlantic lol.
I'd laugh at Europe for still having that stuff in the early 00's. But America's love of post-95 grunge and the worst genre ever made ever, Nu Metal, shames me far too much to pretend to be superior.

Same for me. It's so much easier to care about OOC'ness, plotholes and continuity errors when you're familiar with the characters and lore, hence why stuff like Cry for Justice is much more appealing than stuff like Marville.
-
I loved Lindsay's boy band one. I admit to remembering every one of those bands, except the parody one with the fat guy. Despite my current interest in pop music, I was never that big in any boy band. I though LFO was a parody, I didn't mind Hanson, Nsync pissed me off (namely cause I despised Justin), and I sided with Backstreet Boys purely because I felt it was the lesser of two evils. At least, that was me back then. Now? I willingly listen to both Nysync and Backstreet willingly, namely the N'sync Christmas soundtrack.
But still, I wouldn't say I'm fans of any of them, except BoyZ II Men. I'm with Lindsay. Boyz II Men would be #1 on my list. Easily my favorite, and I'm usually more than willingly to listen to them even now.
Also, I wonder if I was the only one who noticed the error Lindsay made. The guy in 98 Degrees that she points out that has the 98 tattoo isn't Nick Lachey. That's Jeff Timmons.
[hide][/hide]
Nick Lachey is technically the leader of the band, and the pretty boy. Jeff Timmons was the sexy one with the muscles (who joined the Chippendales very recently for a short time).
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Speaking of Chippendales, she's on Twitter and she's currently watching Magic Mike. God I hope she does a VLog or something. Apparently the ladies in theater are shouting and cheering to the guys....ON SCREEN who are stripping for them.
In their defense, I'd go for some Alex Pettyfer.
-
Why did you despise Justin
-
As long as he doesn't dislike Justin anymore, I'm fine.
-
I'm just curious is all
-
I disliked Justin when he was in N'Sync, then over the course of the 00's he morphed from irritating pop singer to genuinely cool funny dude.
I mean come on.
-
Motherlover is better.
-
He always came off as a real jerkward during his N'Sync years. Had a real attitude and a trollish that made me want to smack him. I didn't mind the rest of the band, but the combination of his snottiness and how much people worshiped him really pissed me off. It's kind of like Justin Bieber, but Justin doesn't come off as annoying in comparison.
But like Monkey King said, he started to open up, be more of a goof ball, and had some fun. Then he warmed up to me. He's a pretty cool and funny guy now, and it kind of feels like he grew up. Well, grew up to be more modest, anyway.
Also, I've never found Justin as attractive as 75% of the world does. I mean, he has an amazing body as of late. His body in Friends with Benefits? DAMN! But I've never found him to be the pretty boy everyone has made him out to be. I always found JC more attractive, especially in terms of facial features. JC was always prettier in my eyes. Guess that's another thing that frustrated me about Justin.

New Midnight Screenings. Brad, Jillian and Leah see Ted. They actually liked it. Brian and Dave are forced to see Madea's Witness Protection and… yeah. http://thecinemasnob.com/2012/06/29/midnight-screenings-ted-and-madeas-witness-protection.aspx
Honestly, some poor schmuck is going to attempt reviewing all seven Madea movies. No one should have to go through that.In-character, The Cinema Snob looks at the controversial Faces of Death, a movie with genuine footage of slaugherhouses, wartime atrocities, and a bicyclist that was hit by a truck. Thankfully, he only talks about the obviously fake footage (or cuts away from the real stuff). http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/bj/tcs/35738-faces-of-death
Welshy looks at a horror-comedy with zombie weresheep. Methinks they were trying for the classic Peter Jackson vibe. Black Sheep. http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/welshy/welshy-reviews/reviews/35760-welshy-reviews-black-sheep
Paw attempts to look at Doctor Doolittle. No, not the Eddie Murphy movie, the disastrous 1967 musical that ruined Rex Harrison's career. http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/paw/music-movies/35762-music-movies-doctor-dolittle

same here, after the transformation of him being a boy-group member to genuinely funny occasional SNL member I'm liking him so much.
Heck, have you seen the shitty Bad Teacher movie with Cameron Diaz? the interactions between Justins character and Jason Segel were about the only funny thing in the movie. -

-
So when's the 4-year anniversary starting up?
Probably within the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Anyway, no 4th Year Anniversary this week, but Doug just uploaded the next NC episode on blip, but then took it back down for whatever reason. It should be back up again shortly, and….
The Nostalgia Critic returns from his two-week hiatus with a review of Digimon the Movie with JesuOtaku.
Fuck. Yes.

It's finally converted. http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/nostalgia-critic-digimon-the-movie-with-jesuotaku-6236564
I saw this in theaters, and being the stupid kid I was I thought it was awesome. Now… holy fuck what a mess. It kind of makes me wonder how the movies were originally. Before the bad puns and splicing.
-
Damnit it still hasn't uploaded! RAWR! I NEED MY NC REVIEW NAOW!
-
I love the Digimon Movie. Love it.
I realize that this purely nostalgic bias on my part, but this movie is so ingrained into my childhood that there is no reviewer on the planet that can make me not like it.
Point out all the flaws you want, this will forever be my guilty pleasure.
-
I also loved that movie as a child. Funny enough, I knew literally every piece of trivia that JesuOtaku the giant nerd pointed out, and totally remember the Digirap. I consider that a bit embarrassing, but whatever.
I'm pretty sure that with a better dub, the movies might have been better, as some of that animation did look really good, but then again I seriously haven't revisited Digimon at all since childhood, so who knows, maybe it's complete crap.
-
I adore Digimon. I love it as much as, if not more than, Jesu. But my god, even as a kid, I cringed at every minute of that movie. I forced my sisters to take me, and they suffered. I've apologized so much for that movie. And it's not like either of them hate anime or anything. One liked the Digimon show, and the other is currently a One Piece fan.
Once the rap started, I knew this movie was going to be a disaster. I shrank in my seat in the theater.
