Yes it was in Impel Down where Luffy told Ivankov, and that was what prompted him to help Luffy escape.
Just to add to the topic of why Kuma knew Luffy was dragon's son before Iva knew. It wasn't because Kuma was dragon's right hand since Kuma was undercover working for a marines, so he would have been out of contact with the revolutionaries. Kuma probably found out the same way the entire marine force knew, Garp, once Garp mentioned it at water 7, his underlings told others and it spread.
Kuma wouldn't want to help Luffy if he didn't know of his relationship, it would make no sense. Ivankov obviously didn't know until Luffy told him, thus one of the top 10 reactions in One Piece. Now back to the discussion topic. Do you think Shanks will greet Luffy openly when they meet or will he fight him as pirate? I could see Shanks welcoming him or challenging him because Luffy said he'd have a crew stronger than Shanks' own and Shanks might want to test him. I was going to ask if Luffy could fight a friend at full strength but he fought Usopp so never mind.

To be fair, while Ivankov seems to be a pretty strong fighter, I don't think that's Iva's main purpose. Those hormones, especially the healing 'mones and the vigor 'mones, seem way more useful to the Revolutionaries as a whole than Ivankov's fighting strength.

Good point. I do think Iva should have haki though being a high ranking revolutionary and/or should have been able to beat Magellan. When Luffy ended up on 5.5, Iva made it sound like he could break out when he wanted, but if that were true then he should have been able to beat or be on par with Magellan. Still he did take on Kuma

Or just using weapons gives him an advantage. Almost everyone we saw who fought Magellan used hand to hand combat primarily. So I guess if a sword was being used Magellan would lose a lot of his hax.

Yeah, sword techniques like Zoros "Pound Cannon" would most likely have some effect, we have to remember that Magellan isn't a Logia.

I don't think you can rank them, I feel like the crews are more or less the same in terms of power. The captains, that may be a different case. Although I really doubt any of them is by any means weak. I bet all of them are at least in the top 10 in terms of strength.

More than anything I see Blackbeard defeating Shanks. That fight has been foreshadowed a lot.
Also, we know Big Mam is probably going down as a result of facing Luffy, Law and Kidd at around the same time … anyone wondering what that will 'cause? A yonkou being defeated and no clear successor would probably send the One Piece world into kind of a chaos.

Not to mention, the SHs were able to defeat him in Strong World, which (although the movie is not entirely canon) says to me that Shiki was significantly weaker than Yonkō strength. I still find it unlikely that a rival to Roger could be defeated by them, but I digress.

Confirmed in a flashback, Whitebeard tells Roger that he has no interest in Raftel or One Piece.
Like someone posted above. BB and Shanks will have a fight that Shanks might lose, drivin Luffy totally crazy to defeat BB.
Though we don't know a rank of power lvl., we might have a rank of age and there I'd say Shanks is the youngest among them.

From all the glimpses we have of the Yonkou I'd say Shanks is the youngest of those four.

Whitebeard was the strongest, at their peak the WB PIrates were the strongest crew period. They were untouchable. And WB never had any intention to go to Raftel - he wasn't interested in treasure. Before he died, his flashback when he was with Roger - he was offered the location of Raftel and he refused it.
WB's crew woulda crushed any of the others easily, because he is Whitebeard - the strongest of them all.
The important thing to remember about Raftel, is that there is a "trick" to getting there. Gol D Roger knew it, and it's possible that he took the trick with him to his grave.

Does seem in my own mind that anyone who ever challenged Whitebeard was defeated. As long as you didn't mess with Whitebeard or his crew then you were safe. Kaido and Big Mom may have learned this the hard way. This makes me wonder how Whitebeard and Roger actually clashed. Did Roger challenge Whitebeard or vise versa? Was it just a friendly sparing match? Hey whitebeard lets fight and have a drink afterwards.
I assume in my own mind that both Kaido and Big Mom are more aggresive challenger types who go after whatever they want.

potentially some of the remaining WB pirates, he did stop the war and helped with the tombstones of ace and wb, i'm sure quite a few of the allied crews would need protection now too.
I think the relationship between Shank's and Mihawk needs to be unwrapped a bit more. Seems that Mihawk went to the meetings with the other Schichibukai (sp?) in order to gather information for Shank's. Out of all the warlords we've seen, only Kuma and Mihawk were able to talk formally with the others and from what we may conclude, one of the warlord's, Kuma, has had ties with an external organization (Revolutionaries). Mihawk may have had been in Shank's crew you never know. Or possibly, they built a freindly relationship from their sparring matches over the years. I wonder why Mihawk stopped sparring him, even though it's stated that Shank lost no power even though he lost his good arm.
Mihawk may join Shank's crew when they possibly battle the BB pirates I have a hunch that they will both meet their demises then and there and their defeat will echo the seas causing a rukus. Shank's may have military strength, we haven't seen anything in regards to Shank's crew except Rockstar, Ben Beckman, Lucky Roux and Yasopp. We haven't even seen their utmost power nor do we know if they have any particular abilities. In addiiton, Shank's seems as if he does not want anything to do with One Piece, I think he's just there to usher in the new era and try his best to dispose of any interuptions that will affect it. He seems like the man who will only act when provoked and does not act on a whim. Everything Shank's has done thus far, has been for a reason. In regards to the WB Pirates, I'm more than certain they have all alligned under Shank's name along with the other allied pirates.

We know Shanks clashed with Whitebeard. We know he was a well known pirate even in the beginning of series, Whitebeard said that "It's a shock when a man of your caliber comes back missing an arm" meaning even when he first met Luffy he was very strong. Beckmann also tells the bandits if they want to fight them then they need a warship. The marines were also shocked he met up with Kaido and still made it to Marineford so quickly. So we do know his crew is VERY VERY strong but their individual areas of combat are hard to judge except we know Yasopp is a great sniper.

Don't hold your breath. Since Marco is not a Yonko, he's either an ally to Shanks or the crew disambanded.
Shanks would be a tad OP if he had Marco, Jozu, Vista and the lot join his crew… I'm thinking the remaining WB Pirates are desperately trying to defend the islands they once controlled but are failing.

Shanks lost an arm and is still a Yonkou But you make a good point yes. I agree they were slapped pretty hard. It will depend on what the allied pirates decide to do as well. If they have decided not to follow Marco then sadly we might not be seeing the WB pirates, although given what happened to Ace and WB I really doubt Oda will have them go their separate ways like cowards.
Mihawk will not join shanks because they are simply rivals. They are not bound by friendship, but my the thrill of competing against one another. Garp and roger were more rivals than they were enemies, which is why in the end Garp took Ace in.

If we can consider Law an authority on the subject, then all pirate crews in the New World either work for one of the Yonkou, or are fighting against them constantly. So Whitebeard's old crew are either now allied to another Yonkou, or they are fighting for their lives against their old enemies.

That might be true as well. When I think about it both Shanks and Marco want the head of BB, Marco more than Shanks of course but still it might make Marco consider being part of his crew. And given the fact that none of the WB pirates wants to become the Pirate King it might push them that way. We will find out sooner or later, I'm hoping sooner as I want to see more of the WB pirates :happy:

Aren't Zoro and Sanji kinda-sorta rivals with each other? And they're on the same crew. (I'm not saying Mihawk will join the Red-haired Pirates, though).

I agree. I really can't see Mihawk following someone even if that is Shanks. It's pretty clear he prefers doing things alone.

From what we have seen of Mihawk, his personality is not like someone who would join anybody, and works alone. It's a called "character development".

Well, they were rivals. My impression is that they are pretty much best buddies now, else why would he look for Shanks only to show him a picture of Luffy.
While I don't see Mihawk working under anyone, allying himself with Shanks is possible.

Coby and Luffy aren't rivals, they're enemies. Rivals, by definition, have the same goal despite not being allied with each other. Coby and Luffy don't share a goal at all.

You're right, I'm sure Shanks and Mihawk are capable of sitting down and having a good talk. I mean for whatever reason Mihawk felt the need to bring Shanks information on Luffy's 300,000,000 bounty which Shanks insisted on celebrating with Mihawk. So although they are friendly rivals I could never see Mihawk joining the Red-Haired pirates and I totally agree with what you pointed out earlier in that I believe Mihawk wouldn't join anyone but is definitely capable of making an alliance with others and the person most likely to be allies with would be Shanks in my opinion.
