Oda´s tributes to another Mangas, mangakas, celebrities…

Though I think they got Brook and Franky's punchline wrong. Oda seemed to intend the punchline to be "Then give it to our unborn sons" while flashing their genitals, only going so far to imply that they actually have "children" present that are allowed to have the otoshidama
Yes they did, and no that's not it. It's as sandman described above.
-

Ah, yes forgot to mention the pun, again as sandman described.
Was sort of paraphrasing as I'm not personally able to read Japanese, but thank you for the confirmation Greg.
-
mangastream is still garbage lmao
-
Well well well… In any case, how is Nami supposed to 'give' Otoshidama to their 'sons'? It's not as though their 'sons' have hands by which they could hold Otoshidama, so how?
-
HAHA nice one Oda. But one thing that doesn't make sense, Brook is a skeleton so he shouldn't have anything there, unless it's a bone. :ninja:
And I love how Oda used that Nami gag back in Alabasta but reversed. This manga needs more perviness.

I'd like to introduce one of the most informative ONE PIECE fansites in Japan, which includes many of Oda's rare illustrations and autographs. Greg also mentioned it on Twitter.

It is weird for me seeing Luffy and Giorno in the same preview page. I always forget Part 5 was in WSJ.

Sabaody-san is amazing.
Between him and abtr-san I'm continually amazed at the power of research and dedication by fans. -
Here is Oda's tribute to Akira Toriyama in "30th ANNIVERSARY Dragon Ball SUPER HISTORY BOOK" which will be released tomorrow:wub:

Yamcha, Oda style! Damn, and I just changed my avatar.
-
Looks awesome, but…Why Yamcha?

@Mr.:
Oda's "dirty joke" has been scanlated by MangaStream.
Though I think they got Brook and Franky's punchline wrong. Oda seemed to intend the punchline to be "Then give it to our unborn sons" while flashing their genitals, only going so far to imply that they actually have "children" present that are allowed to have the otoshidama. In addition, giving her the same tease she gave the SHs back in Alabasta (to the exact opposite affect)
However, MangaStream interpreted as a direct proposition of baby-making with Nami, which is…quite a bit different.
Though inquiring minds need to know--What did Nami, Luffy, and Chopper see??!!
Huh? I never saw that Version before? Did Oda go on Tumblr and looked up "UnderTail" fanart online? (See what I did there?)
-
Looks awesome, but…Why Yamcha?
Oda says in his comment, "Actually I love Yamcha as well as Goku. He has been always thrown into miserable situations, but I still believe Yamcha wil have his own highlight scenes some day!!"

I must be dreaming. Oda, a Yamcha fan? Holy crap.
This is just too awesome.
-
As a big Yamcha fan myself I couldn't be happier to hear this. It's another confirmation of why I'm a big fan of Oda and OP.

would pay good money for an english version of this book

So Oda is as delusional about DB as we can be about OP, huh?
-
Soooo… Did the source had the other authors as well?? I'd like to see sorachi and araki's. Or if any newbies got in.

It's in the Dragon Ball thread. I saw Sorachi drawing but not sure about Araki.
Edit: Araki also did one(the bottom one)

Thanks !

Here is Oda's tribute to Minami Takahashi, a famous Japanese idol. Oda talked with her via email while specifying the design of her fan club.

This picture is from Jump Ryu! Volume 12 dedicated to Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin, Busō Renkin, Embalming -The Another Tale of Frankestein-…).
We can see a little samurai draw by Eiichiro Oda (Watsuki call him Oda-kun), probably he's Ryuma from Monsters One-Shot. It's very funny
-
Nice, thanks Redon

while reading through kingdom I found a panel that reminded me of oda's tribute I saw long ago…

This is the exact same panel Oda has redrawn for the Social Kingdom project so the resemblance is intended.

pretty amazing project, thanks for sharing

The best part of Oda's panel is that horse losing his mind.

Oda's tribute to Osamu Akimoto, the author of Kochikame.
Thanks sandman.
OMG!!! Amazing tribute, I think is the best of Kochikame 40th Anniversary.

Nice tribute!!! Amazing

Eiichiro Oda's tribute to Kochikame 40th Anniversary in HQ.

Here is Oda's comment about Osamu Akimoto and Kochikame.
Oda: 40th anniversary…!!
Next year will be 20th anniversary for ONE PIECE. Kochikame has been always going ahead of ONE PIECE by 20 years, in other words, 1000 chapters.
It isn't surprising since Kochikame had already gone through 1000 chapters when I started ONE PIECE. The panache of Kochikame is obviously greater than that of ONE PIECE.The reason why Weekly Shonen Jump has been selling well is because there is a port named Kochikame in Jump.
Some audience and mangakas who once stopped reading/drawing mangas in Jump can feel inclined to reading/drawing mangas again because there is a port named Kochikame.
What is the definition of Jump? The answer is Kochikame.Akimoto-sensi and Ryo-san, be sure to be a port for everyone forever. I admire from the bottom of my heart that you have been drawing Kochikame for 40 years without any breaks.
Congratulations! Kochikame will enter 2000 chapters next year!!
Question: Who is your favorite character in Kochikame?
Oda: All members of Special Detective department![hide]
[/hide]Question: What is your favorite chapter in Kochikame?
Oda: It is "Showman crocodile" in Volume 67. The crocodile is so cute and funny.
(In this chapter, Ryo-san raises a crocodile to sell his leather.)Question: What would you do if you could meet Ryo-san?
Oda: He would be outstandingly cool. I think the late Mr. Bunta Sugawara is the coolest person in the world. Whenever I practice drawing the portrait of Sugawara, it ends up looking like Ryo-san at first.
Could it be that Ryo-san has the same visage as that legendary actor!? If I could meet Ryo-san, I'd like to hide the center of his unibrow with my finger. He would look exactly like Bunta Sugawara.(Akainu is based on Bunta Sugawara.)
-
Following Kochikame's 40th Anniversary, Shueisha will publish next 16th August a Weekly Shonen Jump special edition called "Kochikame Jump".
We will find a lot of tributes to Kochikame from some magakas in the magazine. We can see in the cover that Eiichiro Oda drew Reiko Akimoto and Hirohiko Araki (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) drew Keiichi Nakagawa.
-
That Keiichi guy looks a lot like Dio.
Reiko, I can't think of anyone from One Piece. A mix between Koala and Vivi.
-
Big full color cover.
-
Is that Nami?! Oh wait…
-
Is there a translation out there for this page?

Good work, redon!
Here is Oda's interview in a smartphone app called "My Jump" (Myジャンプ), which was released yesterday. It seems this app basically requires a monthly fee.

[/hide]Q. When/why did you start reading Weekly Shonen Jump?Oda: I started reading Jump in fourth grader. There is no particular reason for shonens to read Jump. It's nothing special.
Q. Which manga impressed you most?
Oda: Hokuto Hyakuretsuken in "Fist of the North Star" surprised me since it blew up human's body.[hide]
[/hide]My favorite character in "Fist of the North Star" is Rei. I liked him so much that I quit reading it when he made his exit from manga,Q. What influenced you in Jump?
Oda: All mangas I read in my childhood are related to all of my memories. I remember how I felt about scenes in each manga. They are my precious memories and data.
Q. Could you send a message to My Jump app?
Oda: I hope you will add more lineups since there are many mangas I want to re-read.
At the end of the interview, Oda selected 10 mangas he wants to re-read/read in the future.[hide]"Barefoot Gen" Keiji Nakazawa

@Wintermute:Is there a translation out there for this page?
Here is my translation of the comments from Shinji Kagawa.
Q. What inspired you to read ONE PIECE?
Kagawa: When I got transferred from Cerezo Osaka to Borussia Dortmund, one of my friends recommended me to read ONE PIECE.
I started reading it in Germany and got all volumes from Japan. Luffy doing his best across the ocean encouraged me.Q. Why do you like ONE PIECE?
Kagawa: I love ONE PIECE since the characters don't give up their hope in predicaments.
I feel sympathy toward them since they believe their crewmates and keep fighting. It's the same as football.Q. Who do you think has the similar disposition as yours in ONE PIECE?
Kagawa: It's Luffy. I hope I will be someone like Luffy, who never gives up his great dream.
Q. ONE PIECE has entered 19th anniversary this year.
Kagawa: I'm surprised to hear it. I was only an elementary school student back then.
I'd like to celebrate somehow next year since ONE PIECE will enter 20th anniversary! Keep up running!Q. If you create a football team in ONE PIECE, who would you like to invite?
Kagawa: Forward (Zoro)
Midfielder (Sanji, Luffy and Chopper)
Defensive Mid Fielder (Nami and Robin)
Defender (Law, Brook, Kinemon and Usopp)
Goalkeeper (Franky)
Head coach (Shanks)The formation would be 4-2-3-1, the same as Japan national football team.
[EDIT] Below is a collaboration video between Luffy and Shinji Kagawa.
-
Thank you so much sandman. Kind of funny that both Oda and Shinji are fans of each other.
Love his football team. Good decision to put the cool-headed girls into the position where they can plan and orchestrate the game. You can switch Franky and Zoro though, they would do both jobs very well.
Law with his ability is, once again, pure hax here. -
Here's the colourspread tribute in Kochikame Jump
-
My guesses for the authors.
! Araki and Oda are super obvious.
! The others I'd guess:
! Ryotsu by Akimoto himself.
! Matsui cheated and signed his.
! The other girl Obata. Or maybe Togashi..
! Inoue the bikerless biker, I'd guess.
! Completely baseless:
The chieff Toriyama
The nude dude Shimabukuro -
-Daijiro Ohara by Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto).
-Ai Asato by Mizuki Kawashita (Ichigo 100%).
-Reiko Akimo by Eiichiro Oda (One Piece).
-Kankichi Ryotsu by Osamu Akimoto (Kochikam).
-Keiichi Nakagawa by Hirohiko Araki (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure).
-Hayato Honda by Masanori Morita (Rookies).
-Takeshi Kitano by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro (Toriko).
-Neruo Higurashi by Yusei Matsui (Assassination Classroom). -
Good work, redon!
Here is Oda's comment in the drawing:
"I'm pretty certain that there are many mangakas who are better at drawing women than me! Is it OK if I draw Reiko-san, the sexy policewoman!?"
-
Don't know if it has ever been mentioned but Luffy's hat is very likely a tribute to Indiana Jones
-
@John:

No. Its certainly not. It might be inspired by something (doubt it), but its certainly not Indiana Jones.
