The guy doesn't even cite "Poor Unfortunate Souls" when referencing Mermaid. His opinion matters not at all.

Oh, look at me, I'm artistic, I'm so smart I didn't like Beauty and the Beast…
Reading such shallow opinions makes me want to quit art forever.
-
I stopped reading after the first line, when he admitted to never really liking Beauty and the Beast in the first place. It automatically makes his opinions invalid to me.
I'm going off to see Beauty3D tonight; I'd be a bad fan if I didn't see one of my top 3 Disney movies in theaters again.
-
Whoa, what a heap of bile in response to a rather unoffending opinion.
Honestly, I kind of agree. I like Beauty and the Beast, and I have huge respect for the artistry and creativity involved in its creation. I'll probably go see it when it comes out here in 3D, too. But the story and characterization, to me, don't really rise above even its blander Disney peers. I can understand how economically and historically vital it was to the existence of the studio itself, but there are Disney films I vastly prefer.
Apparently, that really is just me, but hm, just putting it out there.
-
I can understand that others feel otherwise, but still, that review seems a little… unnecessary considering the first line. I've read reviews from people who didn't love that particular thing they were reviewing that the whole thing became bad because of it. I think when writing these, one has to look at things from a somewhat "neutral" position, because that's the only way to have a clear picture.
Then again, Beauty and the Beast was always among my favourites, so I might be a little biased.

It didn't. I literally sighed with relief when that part came up.
-
I didn't care for Beauty and the Beast much when it aired since I was like…4, and the relationship between Beast and Belle didn't make sense to a 4-year old. But one of my friends who is a major Pixar critic extolled the praises of BatB and I had to watch it again. He's convinced it's Disney's best renaissance film and one of the all-time greats. I have yet to see it again from a 24 year old's perspective, although I'll probably appreciate it WAY MORE.
That said, I don't think the reviewer was all that harsh on the film, though I think some of the criticism is kinda weird. Mulan and Rapunzel kicked arse, does he think Belle is boring because she's more like a real young girl and not a legendary female warrior (who dueled Shen-Yu with a fan!) and a spunky brat with magic whip hair? BatB is supposed to be a good romance film...I have a hard time imagining the romance dynamic to be convincing if Belle could single-handedly settle every conflict, like grapple evenly with Gaston.
Didn't know it was in theatres again, but it's not in any theatre close to my area. :(
-

It's just the original with 3D effects and even those are only really noticeable at the start and end of the film as they give off a really nice children's popup book effect.

Did the ballroom sequence look good? I'd imagine it would given how heavy on cg it was.
-
Yes, though, as I said earlier, Lilo and Stitch has permanently ruined that sequence for me.

The Lilo and Stitch ad campaign had Stitch interacting with other Disney movies.
Also did Mermaid, Aladdin, and Lion King.

Thanks for posting that, I hadn't seen the Aladdin or Lion King ones.

Wow, that looks really slick. NOW I'm excited for that movie to come out.
Speaking of excited, I got Lady and The Tramp on DVD/BluRay today. It's not my favorite Disney movie, but I'm determined to get them all now.
And of course they had their usual promotional pamphlets inside. Stuff for a new Tinkerbell movie (Secret of the Wings), Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 (Ay Dios.), a reminder for The Muppets and to get Beauty and the Beast/Bambi before April 30th (naturally!)…
They also had news about upcoming Combo Pack releases, including:
Lion King 1 1/2 and Lion King 2 (sometime in 2012)
The Aristocats (August 7th)
The Rescuers 2 Movie Collection, with both The Rescuers AND The Rescuers Down Under (Summer 2012)
Pocahontas 2 Movie Collection, with Pocahontas AND Pocahontas 2 (Summer 2012)
Lady and The Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure (Summer 2012)
and the biggest news.... Cinderella (Fall 2012)
Aladdin (Spring 2013)I got the Aladdin Special Edition DVD already, but still! EXCITEMENT~! I actually hope they do a 3D theater event for it, because THAT movie would be boss using it.
Take my money Disney, take it allllllllll… <3

Well, I finally got Tangled in the mail the other day and the movie is just about as good as I remember it. It's not in Disney's top tier as far as I'm concerned, but it's still darn good. One thing though, did anyone get the weird feeling at times that Flynn was too old for Rapunzel? I mean, I know they're both supposed to be teens/young adults, but Rapunzel is 18 (and a very young-looking 18 at that) and I don't know how old Flynn is, but sometimes it looks like he could be in his 30's
Also, I cheated and watched Tangled Ever After on Youtube. I was a little worried for the 1st minute or 2 as it looked like they were just recycling jokes from the movie, but then it went to Maximus and Pascal and everything was gold from thereon out. I was a bit disappointed it didn't involve Rapunzel and Flynn/Eugene more, but I guess it was just supposed to be a funny short (and damn funny it was).

I'm curious if Wreck-It-Ralph will have any musical numbers. John C. Reilly is an excellent singer, so I hope so.
And I'm sorry, but I hate Sarah Silverman. By no means will she ruin the movie for me or prevent me from watching it, though.

"Boats and Hos."

Nice to see Aladdin is being rerelease next year. Even through I already got it on dvd back in 04. I hope we get a rerelease of Robin Hood soon. Since I need to get that on dvd. I might get the Rescuers dvd set. Since I like Rescuers: Down Under.

Zangief, Bowser and Eggman will have cameos in Wreck it Ralph:
This comes from a magazine called D23, which seems to be a US Disney magazine.
Going by the pictures it seems their all at a Villains Support meeting. And at the very least Zangief will talk.
I'm loving this. I already wanted to see it and this makes me want to see it even more xD
I found this on another forum, but this seems to be the original source: http://www.dvdizzy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=598087#598087

Okay, that clarifies and says EVERYTHING about the movie that we needed to know. Its going for a Toy Story/Roger Rabbit approach, with real world stuff and history integrated, it won't be just entirely made up. That makes a tremendous difference in how well the whole thing can work.
-
I love that Zangief voice actor gets so excited about a headbutt that he forgets his own name. They probably won't use it in the film except maybe as a blooper track at the end, but it's actually something that would have worked in character.

I wasn't totally sure last night, but since I've seen others mention it, too, Dr. Wily is on the left of Bowser.

O. M. G. YES.
That's like . . . . pure Mr. Rochester. If Mr. Rochester was young and attractive.
-
Yeah, Beast's super shiny transformation was always a low point in the movie to me.
-
The artists say that it really doesn't matter what design they had for Beast's human form… NOTHING would have worked for those 20 seconds after spending 90 minutes with the other design. About all they could do was make sure the eyes were the same.
-
They should have gone the Shrek route. We didn't need him as a pretty boy.

True, but this is still way better than the Fabio clone they used. This guy actually looks like the human form of the Beast.

The entire point of Shrek was inverting that exact thing, so…
As is, I think its unfair for Belle to fall in love with a big strong 8 foot tall protector who can keep her warm in the winter, only for him to turn into... what he turns into. That's not who she fell in love with!

Well sure, with 20 years of hindsight…

Are you implying Belle's a furry ?
-
The design is fantastic because it actually took into consideration Beasts bitchin' ass sideburns. Bet he has a mean under bite.
Also, his hair didn't go from a flea infested pile of awesome into some really well kept luscious smooth enough to wipe your ass hair.

@No:

Just saying. if you fell in love with Arnold Schwarzenegger and then overnight he turned into Jerry Lewis…
-
At least the Beast/Human stuff wasn't like Beastly… http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1152398/ I think Penny-Arcade had the funniest view on it. Pretty guy changing to a pretty guy with tats and minor scaring…Disney at least made the Beast look like he was dangerous. I had honestly never thought about how much they didn't look alike. But now I will...and I'll have a hard time watching it.

Well, I hope that Zangief gets a gag about "why am I here? I am protektor of Russian Skies!" because he TOTALLY ISN'T A HEEL. why would he be at a Villain Support Meeting? M. Bison should be there! Zangief is a face, but nearly every American interpretation of street fighter forgets this.
this is just going to bug me.

Holy shit.
Owen Wilson was going to play Pacha?

cant post, busy downloading

It boggles my mind that such an in depth, lengthy, behind the scenes feature is sort of hidden away in the disney vault and not really released anywhere.
(I realize there's some mild cursing, but thats easy to edit.)
Maybe its just because it was such a troubled history and the final product so different they don't want to show it much? (That and Eisner was embarassed about the movie either way.)
-
i think the biggest mistake of the film was pairing up Dindal and Allers in the first place
-
They should have went ahead and got rid of Allers from the start when they brought Dindal in or they shouldn't have brought in another director in the first place.
-
I can't argue with the final results, ENG was a lot of fun. But… yeah, it had to go through a lot to get there... and its not really a typical Disney film.

March 23, 2012
Dear Colleagues and Friends of the Walt Disney Animation Studio, After long and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to leave Disney Animation. I am convinced that animation really is the ultimate art form of our time with endless new territories to explore. I can’t resist it’s siren call to step out and discover them. Disney has been my artistic home since September 9,1974. I owe so much to those great animators who mentored me—Eric Larson, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston—as well as to the many other wonderful people at Disney whom I have been fortunate to work with in the past nearly 38 years. Over these four decades I have seen so many changes, but the one thing that remains the same is that we all do this because we love it. I am humbled and deeply honored to have worked side by side so many artists, producers and directors during my career here at Disney, and I am tremendously proud of the films which together we have created. I will deeply miss working with you. With my most sincere and heartfelt good wishes for your and Disney’s continued artistic growth and success,
Glen
