@Silence:
But if you're a full time lurker in here you know how frequently the discussion of sketch chapters raises its ugly head.
Fortunately for me and my "argument," I specified that it wasn't directed specifically at Nobodyman, but at that discussion.
So you specified that it wasn't a direct attack. Again with those lame formalities to fall back on in case someone disagrees with you.
Now, I'll say up front that I'm sorry if my post seemed angry or personal. But really, my forceful wording and occasional swearing is used for emphasis, not out of anger. In real life I don't swear at all and because of that I find that it's often difficult to get my full feelings across. So again, not a direct attack, neither upon you nor Togashi.
And as a point of clarification: I don't hate Togashi. I don't hate HxH for its hiatuses either; they're basically a part of the experience I have come to accept at this point. But my sudden lashing out was mainly because of this:
@darktravis:
I think it was uncalled for to put down Nobody's one sentence criticism on the mangaka's work ethics (not the same as the quality of the manga). A completely correct criticism at that.
Whether he was a buyer, a non-buyer or hasn't even read a single page of HxH in his life, the criticism still holds great weight.
And I completely agree. Though you (Silence) claim your criticisms aren't aimed at anyone in particular, it doesn't change the fact that you used Nobodyman's perfectly innocuous one-liner as a springboard for your out-of-the-blue moral banter.
I criticize manga I don't pay for too, but I don't let it get out of hand or feel particularly entitled about it.
That's what it comes down to: a universal "calm your tits, fellow pirates."
With a side of: "_maaaay_be you don't have the moral high ground you think you do? Think about it." Seems reasonable!
You assume you're the only one who realizes this… I don't see anyone else here, least of all me (on account of, well... never posting), claiming Togashi owes them anything.
Togashi's sketch chapters appeared only in the beginning of the Chimera Arc serialized 6 to 8 years ago, hiatuses included.
And twice in the recent serialization, while he was recovering from an arm injury, after 8 months of smooth sailing.
If your point regarding Togashi's arm injury is true, then I concede some ground. I didn't know this, so thank you.
You're looking through a peephole into a women's dressing room and getting steamed that the girls all have their bras on. Boohoo for your eyeful!
The difference is that Togashi is obviously putting out his work for others. If you're comparing the non-payers to a peeping Tom… is there another hidden character in your analogy that the girls willingly undress for?
I jest; but really, your comparison doesn't fully apply here.
But this entire answer could have been, "wait a minute, why DON'T the folks who are paying for it have more reason to complain than the leechers?"
And you might have to sit on that one for a while.
They do have more of a reason. Doesn't mean we don't have reason too, even if not as justified.
"Hmm, those starving kids in Africa have more reason to complain about their situation than I do, what with experiencing it first-hand and all… Welp, guess my opinion is void"
@Silence:
Your complaints about a series may be quite right and true, but it's best not to throw stones from glass houses.
It's rude as shit.
[ . . . ]
Check yourself, a bit. Or don't! In the end, Togashi feels not one pinprick - you don't really get anything out of it either.
And for this, I apologize. But if you're going to say that this is all pointless because our complaints mean jack squat to Togashi himself, might as well stop posting any criticisms about any media at all.
This line of conversation regarding the sketches is particularly egregious because its existence is predicated entirely on a few pictures that by all rights we should never have seen,
stretched taut over the gaunt, withered skin of an almost decade.
And from here on out, it comes down to a debate of morals that I'd rather not dabble in. So this is where I sign out.

Sorry again for beating a dead horse. If anyone wishes to discontinue this, I'll step down. In all honesty, this entire thing isn't really for me. I got really nervous merely from seeing that my post got a reply. Can't be good for the heart, haha. I guess I like throwing words at others but don't like having them thrown back at me, though obviously I'll still listen to what you have to say.
