I'm a bit with both Gliblord and Monkey King here.
I don't know if they're supposed to be the same thing or even remotely close, but the way Hody being, hmm, "hollow" got me because, hell, I've seen it! In my own neighbourhood, not even the slums or anything like that at all, it's in fact a pretty pacific part of Barcelona, and when I was 11 years old I remember meeting some kids 1 year younger than me (10 yo at the time), friends from playing soccer on the street, in front of my house. I met with them after almost a year of not seeing them around, and it was cool and all. Suddenly, they start talking about how much they hate catalans (very fast explanation: in Catalonia, a region of Spain, we speak 2 languages: Catalan and Spanish (Castellano), and some people have a strong national pride in being from Catalonia and rejecting anything spanish, while others feel the total opposite and call catalans "separatists"), saying stuff like how they love Franco (spanish fascist dictator that provoked the spanish civil war from 1936 to 1939, won it, and ruled over the country until his death, on 1975. Close friend with Hitler and Mussolini), how much they hate blacks, gypsies and muslims. . . Such HATE. I repeat: 10 year olds. What did the catalans, blacks, gypsies or muslims do to them? NOTHING. Not a damn thing. They just repeated what they probably heard at their homes, their surroundings, who knows? But what did 5 or 6 kids experience that made them idolatrize a (thankfully dead) fascist totalitarian dictator?
Well, for me, Hody and co. are these kids, taken to maybe ridiculous extremes (let's face it: Hody changed plans like every chapter, was unfocused, and kinda silly in many aspects), but I kind of can see the similarities. Is that a good example or am I off the mark? Please, tell me so.
And, regarding Fisher Tiger. . .well. The man got, what? 3 chapters? Did it get to the fourth chapter? He didn't get almost exposition at all. He could've used a ton more. His power also seemed quite inconsistent: As MK says, his deed is just INSANE. On the first battle, he one hit ko's a Rear Admiral with a freaking kick to the face. Next thing we know, he's taken out by soldiers with guns and another Rear Admiral (Strawberry) and dies from a blood loss while lamenting his life as a slave. This man, a slave?
And, even with all that, that final form of self-pity, a man who died so bitterly, so sadly, not smiling like almost everyone else in the manga, just tears of regret for not being able to forgive the humans. That was good, and it gave us Arlong, FREAKING Arlong crying over his death and reacting with immense rage and sadness over it. That made Arlong's character even more interesting. That was ALSO good.
And to end this, Arlong was also a good thing about this arc. He sported like 3 or 4 different head wear, made small but great appearances, and his character got quite build up, all of that, without appearing even once in the current timeline. He was a highlight of an arc were he, technically, didn't appear. That's Arlong for ya.
