Surprised that Mashima actually made his "precious" Jellal lose like that. Maybe that means Natsu might lose too.

This will be another Grimoire Heart arc, where all the members are defeated, but the power of friendship gives them new energy to have a payback.

I was about to ask what meds you've started taking. :P
Well it's becoming more apparent to me that the tournament doesn't fucking matter at all. Who cares what place they are in anyways, whatever is happening in the backgournd is the real premise of this arc, and the tournament isn't even going finish.
I wonder what was up with that last page… Why is Levy the one that is narrating? I thought that was Lucy's job...
This IS Mashima. He might just retcon Charle's predictions to them all pointing to one cataclysmic event still in the future.
The fight was pretty cool…..and the ending was stupid it was not too bad.
I don't like Jella so him losing is fine by me. But damnit I want someone to win…And not Natsu lol.
Why do I still bother reading this **** :(
Gerard's up next.
Okay.
No harm is skipping out next week's chapter.
Yup brother. Expected as expected.
See you next week Fairy Tail.
Charle is like the Miss Cleo of Fairy Tail.
Sometimes I don't think this series can win in anyone's eyes. Everyone would have complained if Jellal won, or if he didn't (in this case). In the end, Ultear did the right thing. The guy is a fugitive… he can't be exposed using his unique magic. Then we'd have an arc about people trying to recapture him and you guys would really be in an uproar. You should focus more on the fact Jura has drastically improved in the last 7 years.
Hiro seems to be building up for something big, although the last few chapters were disappointing. Lucy and Jeral failing their ultimate moves now just means they'll pull something off later. To be fair the first part of Jeral's fight was cool.
I kinda expected this to happen when Gerard said he had to blow his cover. But this ridiculous is just too much… Jura's magic almost won the chapter though.
Mashima has a real problem. It seems like he's blind to the fact that he builds these big climatic plot developments or action scenes then pulls the rug out from under us. I wish he'd stop doing it. I get the feeling he's trying to mix comedy and drama and action like One Piece does, but Oda balances things better. A joke ends when the drama begins, while in Fairy Tail the joke interrupts the drama and leave us with nothing.
In fairness though, I can see why keeping Jellal in disguise is important, so it's a little better then usual. Still, that ending was too abrupt, and frankly I don't even get how that spell would've revealed Jellal. I don't think we ever established Mistgun's magic style, so really Jellal could cast anything and I'd believe it.
As Dante from MvC3 would say: keeping it stylish. Chapter 274l: Bad Omen Skinny: Jellal in his Mystogan disguise faces off against Jura in the final match up of the first day of the games. Both mages put up an impressive showing against each other. However Jellal finds himself slowly being backed into a corner as he struggles to fight and keep his guise. Eventually he says "hell with it" and is about to unleash his most powerful move. But Ultear, watching this on a crystal ball with Meredy, stops him via the sensory link, chili peppers and tickling. This causes Jellal to lose resulting in Fairy Tail coming out of the first day with only one point. However darker things are on the horizon as Charla gets a frightening vision. My Thoughts: Mm well this was…something. Not to say it was a bad chapter but not exactly the ending to it I was hoping for. Let's get the good out of the way now, the fight was awesome! Jura and Jellal came out swinging and kept upping the ante. We got deflections, counters, quick thinking, nice use of the environment, the whole nine yards. It felt so fast paced and full of tension. The fact that both of these are good guys also contributed since we're not rooting for anyone specific here making it much more enjoyable. It's nice to see Jellal hasn't lost a step as he busted out a few new spells along with some familiar ones. Likewise with Jura, it great to finally see him go all out against an opponent who can fight back. But sadly everything had to come to a screeching halt with the ending. Okay I understand Ultear did it to keep Jellal from blowing his cover and admittedly I chuckled at it. But it such a sorry way to end the battle just when it was getting good and was just a mood killer overall. It was one thing when Raven Tail did it to Lucy, that was cheating and it came from nowhere. Here, theres no excuse, if Ultear had to stop him she could've at least knocked out Meredy or bind her to let Jura win the fight. You know something a bit more dignified. But no, go the silly route and not only make Jellal look like a complete loon but also damage more of Fairy Tail's credibility. Nice one =P. At the very least the chapter ends on a ominous note with Charla having yet another bad vision and the note from Levy to Lucy. And I suppose having FT still be the underdogs after such a rough start is not bad either in the overall design so far. I just really wish the ending to the fight could've been better but whatever. Still more tourney to go, so hopefully later fights will go more smoothly. Grade: B-

Eh, pretty fun chapter. Nothing but drinking and foreshadowing here.
Way to troll the Gray x Lucy shippers, Mashima.
Decent chapter, I guess.
Our goal is to be #1
*gets drunk and parties
This guild…
Well, at least they manage to keep a positive attitude about things. So, more opponent hype, relationship trolling, and Lucy's such a terrible singer that buildings crumble before her. Yup, that sounds like normal Fairy Tail to me.
''And you said he was strong'' was my favorite line of the chapter. Burn.
The odd part of Fairy Tail is that the chapters that don't really advance major plot points are usually some of the best.
Betcha Lucy's singing about friendship…
Mashima ripping-off Oda, again.
Yeah, yet again…er...wait, how?
The collapsing Mercurius = Fishman Island crumbling
Except Mashima is so predictable it's going end up happening by the end of this arc.
How is a premonition ripping off Oda in any way???
Charla has been having premonitions since way before Madam Shirley was introduced. And it's not as if premonitions were invented by Oda…

This is true, but… should he have chosen something else instead of a single place collapsing? There's plenty of shocking events you can fill a premonition with.
Anyway, forget about it.
That's a bit of a stretch. And I don't think it bears being brought up anyway. Hell I think Mercurius looks alot like the WG building, but it's not that unique. I mean the Hoteye thing was pretty hard to argue, at least in my book, but this is just sort of run of the mill shounen stuff.
ANd so, Majin Buus egg grows ever closer to hatching
Liked the chapter and that Quatro Cerberus was a little bit hyped. I just wish, that the tournament just goes on for some time and especially for something nice in the competition part; before all the "serious" staff starts (becuase it will be probably horrible like always)
The collapsing Mercurius = Fishman Island crumbling
Oh my god.
This is worse than any comparison Hincher can come up with.
Little known fact: Homer was ripping off of One Piece while writing the character of Cassandra in The Illiad.
Laxus is a beast without fangs now, it's like Naruto came and "narutified" him. Gajeel was patting him on the head ffs.
Juvia stole this chapter again.

Huh..I know this is probably already addressed, but really? I mean REALLY? How much fiction have you actually read if you are being serious?
Laxus is a beast without fangs now, it's like Naruto came and "narutified" him.
There has to be a good way to combine "Naruto" and "neuter."
Another weekly review, hopefully the forum will let me space it out this time.
_Once again top of the mornin to ye lads and lasses! Tis the week of the ol touch of the green aka St. Patrick's Day. Wear yer best green gabs, hope you don't get pinched, grab a pint and join me as we review this week tale of the fairies. Shall we boyos?
Chapter 275: The Drunk Falcon
Skinny: Despite a disastrous first day in the Grand Magic Games. Fairy Tail remains in high spirits and "recuperate" their losses at a bar, i.e drinking, partying and having a good time like they always do. Elsewhere, Arcadias speaks with the king of about setting up matches putting Ezra and Bacchus against each other at his request. However it seems the knight has his own agenda. Speaking of Bacchus, he interrupts the festivities with his drunken antics till Ezra confronts him. He leaves claiming they'll settle things the next day while Ezra reveals to the others that he's Quatro Cerburus's S-Class mage meaning he's on par with her. Meanwhile Carla tells Polyursica the vision she saw; the capital's castle collapsing and in the midst of it Lucy, singing.
My Thoughts: Another breather chapter but we get a few developments in the process. Got some good comedy bits here the crowner being Juvia's little fantasy. The fact it came out of left field is what really surprised me and I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the daydream reveal. Kudos to Mashima on that surprise attack. The second is of course Bacchus's introduction, managing to out drink Cana (though she was already kinda plastered there) and showing off his abilities in his drunken stupor. The fact that Ezra fought him to a stalemate like that in the past is indeed saying something of his strength. Go fig NOW Quatro Cerburus, the least interesting guild, gets serious but I do like that FT have rivals elsewhere. So here's hoping the fight will be something.
Answering my earlier blog question about Arcadias's allegiance here is that in fact he's on the dark side but working within the king's army. And of course a more specific description of Charla's vision. While the castle falling isn't surprising, Lucy singing is certainly intriguing. Added with the Levy's letter at the end of last chapter and got an very interesting mystery going on. I can only hope Mashima doesn't drop the ball here as we inch closer to the answer of this.
Overall a pretty good chapter. Nice comedy, a setup for a rival battle and some dark premonitions. Onward to Day two of the games!
Grade: A_
Hmmm…Bacchus is the first character he's introduced in a long time I've seen that I want to see more of. Drunken Kung-fu yay!
Lol...that day dream...Jesus I thought it was real for a second.
Me too. I thought it was real. And the whole time I was like "What…. WHAT!?" then at the reveal I was like "Bahah! Juvia, Just go in his pants already >.<"
Hey all =)
I'm thinking about picking up this Manga while Hunter X Hunter is on hiatsu again. What ya think? I've checked the current chapters and I once started to read the first 20 chapters, and I think its ok, since I'm easy satisfied and fanservice doesn't matter for me (reading HSDK too, so yeah^^). I read lots of bad stuff about this manga, so I'm not sure if I should waste my time on it. Also I read about 50% of the Rave Master Manga, and liked it^^' So should I give Fairy Tail a try?
If you like HxH, you'll gonna be sorely disappointed with Fairy Tail.
I stopped a while back in this series, abut when they were in Edola, I finished it yesterday. I stopped at Chapter 198….lets see how it turns out

Give it a shot - it's kind of the opposite of Hunter x Hunter, in that Fairy Tail's story isn't particularly great while the art is consistently good (also in terms of the author's attitudes towards their work, with Togashi taking lengthy hiatuses, compared to Mashima once producing three chapters in a week with no break between), but I'd say you should read it so that you can form your own opinions, rather than having them shaped by the negativity in this thread.

Ignore Fairy Tail and read Hoshi No Samidare or Shingeki No Kyojin.

This is the best thing anyone can ever put into a sentence.

I still hope for a Gainax adaption.
While reading the daydream, all I could think was "Mashima's finally lost it, he's just going to make anything happen now so he can go out with a bang."
Sadly, him going insane and drawing it, would be better than his actual ideas.

RIIIIGGGHTTT, as if other series haven't used this kind of development.
Stop trying to claim Fairy Tail copies One Piece at every single corner please. It gets old really quick. It's fine if you don't like Fairy Tail, but it looks immature to try and compare the two like this.
