Hey Onigumo, it's time to change your sig since the "spectre" has risen again. As much as we don't like it to it has.
OFFICIAL 4Kids Dub Discussion Mk. II: Alabasta Disasta

And did anyone notice that Crocodile's Trademark scar in the middle of his face is gone? It looked like it to me at least. But Croc's voice isn't that bad. Why on God's Green Earth would they Change Miss Merry Christmas to Miss Groundhog's day? (Okay, stupid question. Moving On!) Miss Golden week to Miss April Fools day? Miss Double Finger to Miss. New year's eve?
What the? It is?
Watches clip I made Holy crap, they did! When you see that clip, don't pay attention to my comments like "Pshhhhh" after hearing Bon Clay's voice, and "Southern Robin sucks!". I didn't mean that, it just came out.
-
People have the ep already on their computer? I want to clip the whole "Trace" scene and send it to my friend who loves Ace. is evil like that
-
Uhhh… Guys... I just watched the original scene of that part with Crocodile and.... He doesn't have his scar there either. I think Toei messed up, or were just making the shadow over him cover it.
And also.... He wasn't "breathing" smoke either. Where did you guys get that from? The only reason they made Smoker breathe smoke was because he has the Smoke Smoke Fruit.... And they assume for you to know that smoke comes out of his body as a side effect to that.
Croc didn't have his cigar in this episode. 4Kids will edit it out when it appears though, no doubt. But they won't leave the smoke.

Some bad lines:
Nami: Stop goofing off, we'll be arriving in Alabasta in a few days!
Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji(Sarcastically): Yes, Mommy.
Usopp: You haven't made that much sense in years!
Bon Clay: As they say in the language of music: You pas de blew it!
-
@Senshi:
Nami: Stop goofing off, we'll be arriving in Alabasta in a few days!
Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji(Sarcastically): Yes, Mommy.
Mommy, or Nami? Maybe it just sounded like Naw-mi.
Eh, well. You can definitely notice where they started cutting some stuff out. Despite what people first said about the voice being good, I was bracing myself when Ace was talking; almost like I expected some sort of weird accent or something
-
No, they really said Mommy. As in a really bad joke that hurts the gut.
Where do you see cut out scenes Cinder?
-
Yup. I think just about everyone expected Ace to get a Austrailian accent.
Batdan, she means the time-cuts… They were noticable.
-
Where do you see cut out scenes Cinder?
There's a bit after Nami talks to Chopper about his medical bag, and Chopper shoving the chopsticks in his nose. It was weird and easy to notice because one shot he didn't have it, then some later, he had 'em.
EDIT: Just checked, they really did say Mommy o__o; cleans out ears
-
That's what I meant too. You know exactly what I mean Roman, don't correct me.
EDIT: I noticed that too Cinder. Nami was freaking out that Chopper was imitating Luffy and he was saying "I've never had this much fun!"
-
That's what I meant too. You know exactly what I mean Roman, don't correct me.
Oh ok, my bad.
-
By the way, there are some clips already posted. So, does anyone else still want me to post mine.
Oh, and some more SDA:
Luffy: (About Mr. 5) Booger dude!
-

Didn't they say the same thing in the original?
I don't remember Luffy refering to Mr.5 by name anyways…

twitch If they change Kohza, Pell, or Chaka's names I swear my ultimate plan for gathering a huge angry mob to raid 4kids will immedietly come into action. WHO'S WITH ME?!
Most rioters these days are just bums hired by people. Shouldn't be THAT hard then…
-
Did they change the "Portgas" part of Ace's name too?
-
I want my ten minutes back that I spent on this thread. Now.
You all are taking this far too seriously; when I first heard "Trace" and "Nebra," I was a little taken aback, but when you think about it, it really is quite humorous. They just barely managed to screw up two simple names, which I personally find funny. All Khan-bashing aside, ol' Genghis gave us a fairly decent episode. Then again, I watched with no sound, so… Mwa-ha-ha on you all.
-
I'm kinda thankful I don't have cable, but not since I can't download the episodes on this thing.
Really, the main reason I'm complaining is cuz of how many people are being fooled into thinking THIS is One Piece…
-
Honestly, I don't take much of a fancy to Ace's voice, I mean it's better than all I heard but he just seems to be talking too slowly and trying too hard to be badass.
But then again I bet he'll sound better once they show him on a more comical side.
-

Yeah, it's been a while since I've seen it, but I clearly remember that Nami was all trying to be nice and make Chopper feel comfortable, glad that there's a somewhat calm and normal (haha) person on board, and then Chopper shoves the chopsticks up his nose and she's obviously thinking "Oh great, no him too"

Should be the end of the discussion, but just to prove that he's right, I actually asked a Viz rep this personally, and she told me basically that they had to because Shueisha made them do it because they trademarked Zolo. People still think that 4kids HAD to change it to Zolo to avoid some sort of trademark/copyright infringement, but that's not true. It had nothing to do with that. And I'm certain changing to Trace and Nebra was not necessary either. They just wanted to.
-
Name changes aside, a fairly decent episode. But the greatest irony? THE TITLE.
"Heading for Disaster"
-
Okay if you don't like us complaining, well you don't have to post. I mean I personally post in this thread because Im pissed off and it makes me feel better.
Liscencing issue on little garden? Whatever -_-
-
And because our opinions differ with yours, it makes your request fair, Sonique? Pish-posh. Remember, this is a discussion thread, not a ranting thread.

You know, I think I have a little theory on why exactly the names were changed, and this may also contribute to why One Piece is edited the way it is on TV (I'm reffering to changed plotlines, personalites, story, stuff like that):
A few months back, I was reading one of the Answerman's columns on ANN. Well one of the questions that someone had written was concerning the issue on why companies change the BGM of their shows sometimes.
Well one of the answers that he gave (which he also called "tragic") was that shows tend to fall in the hands of a "creative executive". This meant that sometimes new music is made for a show so that these "executives" can leave thier thumbprint so to speak, only to show that they had some sort of hand in the actual creation of the show. Answerman even went on to hint at One Piece as an example of a show taken over by a "creative executive."
So I was thinking that this same sort of thing may apply to other aspects of the Dub Piece beyond the horrid BGM. The unecessary name changes, the whole cutting out Laboon and rewriting the Log Pose dealie…a really "tragic" way for 4kids to say "Hey, we helped make this show!"
-
Hi im new to the AP forums. My brother and I laugh at all the stupid edits 4kids has done to the series. Im surprised no ones complained about 4kids editing Vivi's clevage in her BW bio.
-
I just watched it…it wasn't nearly as bad as you made it sound, alone with all the stuff in all the dub episodes the only thing I didn't like was Mr. 2's voice.

Good theory! It must be either that or the Reverend Limburger… right, Leslie Nielson? ^_^

Like I said…. No one's really mad at the episode itself. (it was a pretty standard 4Kids dubbed episode) Just the name changes that this episode introduced.
-

Well, heres the Answerman column that I had mentioned. It's the third question down, and the more I think about it, the more that I really think that this truly is the mentality of 4kids.
-
seems kind of insulting to me there is no need for them to butcher a show just so they can brag about it to other people or companies

Yeah…but it's their show. >.>;

Hey, Snowmint. Yeah, the edits are pretty bad. When Dub Piece (One Piece) was off the air for a while, I thought that Kahn was improving the show, but it turned out that it just got worse.

It isn't worse until they pull out another "Fantastic Voyage". Right now, it's just the same it's always been.
…Which is still bad, but... Not worse.
-
Well, I meant that it's worst, because there are more plot holes. Usually, 4Kids tries to make bad exuses to hide the plots of the ep.s that were skipped.
This is sort of old news, but did any of you guys here that 4Kids owns Capp'a Mikey now? It's another anime from Japan, but I hardly know anything about it.
-
Haha! Good point, that alone should have been a big clue for everyone.
Personally I still don't know how they're gonna get past the Alabasta hump, what with all the war, deaths, blood etc, etc, etc…

I do recall a 4Kids quote where someone said something like (proudly) "by the time we're done editing, people won't even know it's anime".
Yeah, that's a fair theory. Someone feels the need to "improve" the show based on their own preferences. I would call one of those people an "uncreative executive"…because if they were really creative, they would be making their own series.

An interesting Kahn speech.
http://otis.edu/index.php?id=637
Is it just me, or is Kahn releasing 4 year-old products? This isn't OP related.
-
Wow.
Godly. XD

what were those clips that were posted before.

Al Kahn CEO 4Kids Entertainment and Recipient of Otis' Creative Vision Award
"The businesses we are involved in - entertainment, toy and fashion - are very glamorous. In the end, though, remember that it is not about being rich and famous. That is not how you judge your life. When all is said and done, it's about the things you do for others, outside of your own career. Live your life as seen through the eyes of heaven."
hahaha what a bunch of bull
-
This post is deleted!
-
Kahn saying that it's not about being rich scares me.
-
Geez all we want is some decent English dub, Kahn doesn't have to go that far to spew out crap that nobody will believe, I bet he doesn't believe those words either because if he really cared about heaven then Sanji wouldn't have been voiced by Satan with a cold…

I'm probably just being overly analytical, but doesn't that last sentence sound a little bit…for need of a better description, over religous?
-
-
Al Kahn's a fag… I mean...
obviously he doesn't think it's about being rich because he keeps loosin money because he keeps screwing anime... maybe he thinks it's about... screwing people over?
-
This is why I think Al Kahn is really Emperor Palpatine.

You see there's multiple Sith Lords in this world.
The Pope, Al Kahn, Uwe Boll.
All Sith Lords.

Because they skipped and merge so much (creating so many plotholes) to get to Chopper, because Chopper = merchandise which = $$$.
